room

4. Tip #1
• Pilot
• Buy a few, don’t buy dozens
• See how they work within your network infrastructure
5. Tip #2
• Know your network infrastructure
• Why 2:1 in NYC?
our access points only supported 20 devices
30 students plus teacher
Why 1:1 in Scarsdale?
decision process prior to me joining team
wanted to do 1:1
built infrastructure to support
6. Tip #3
• Know your goal
Chromebooks take literal minutes to deploy, are
your staff & students ready to roll as soon as the
devices show up?
7. Tip #4 (more “procedure” than tip)
• Enterprise enrollment
Control-Alt-E
If you don’t do this, you wont be able to manage
the devices within the G Suite Admin console
Tutorial based on NYCDOE:

chromebook-setup
10. Tip #5
• Consider a generic account
the first account to sign-in is the “device owner”
owner can manage device permissions
maybe it’s the classroom teacher or maybe it’s a
generic account since all permission managed
centrally (ie: chromebooks@mydomain.org)
11. Tip #6 - check your manufacturer specs
• “Power Wash” is different than wiping the device
Do Not Power Wash!
If you Power Wash you wont be able to re-enroll the
device
Wipe the device to clear all data and re-enroll
wiping (entering “developer mode” varies by
device)

12. Tip #7
• Enrolling the device adds it to the overall domain
You need to purchase the management console for
each device (~$30 per)
be sure to move individual devices to appropriate
sub-organizations if you are creating custom
settings
changing “Chrome” settings in Admin panel impacts
all Chrome users, even those on Macs and PCs
13. Tip #8
• Enable Force re-enrollment
should be on by default, just double-check
• In Admin Panel, will ensure devices are re-enrolled
even if they are wiped

14. Tip #9
• Don’t forget to deprovision devices that you recycle

15. Tip #10
• Seriously consider a 3rd-party management tool
Hapara
GoGuardian
• We use Hapara, worth every penny
