2. Peeping Tom Disorder
• When someone has a sexual interest in spying on
someone that is engaged in intimate behaviors,
such as undressing, sexual activity or any other
activity that’s usually considered to be private
• Psychosexual disorder/mental disorder
• Illegal
• Called a “voyeur”
• Want sexual excitement
3. Symptoms
• Feeling the urge to watch people undress or engage
in sexual behaviors
• Achieving sexual excitement from doing this
• Feeling like you have to watch strangers
• Having intense, recurring sexually arousing
fantasies from watching
• If these fantasies last six months and cause distress
in life
4. Cause of Voyeurism
• An act that is done in complete private and usually a
voyeur doesn’t see anything wrong with their actions
• Usually goes unnoticed
5. Treatment
• Vary depending on the individual
• Voyeur must realize they have a problem and want
to change
• Sometimes this “want” is brought up through court
order
• Behavior therapy (most common treatment): voyeur
learns to control its impulses
