Walt Disney Company
Walt Disney is a well–known name in today's society. Walt Disney once stated, "You can dream,
create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world but it requires people to make the
dream a reality" (Sparks, 2007). Marty Sklar, Vice Chairman and principal creative executive for
Walt Disney Imagineering was quoted as saying, "From the beginning, starting with Walt Disney,
we have had five tings that make me proud to be a part of this company: high quality, products,
optimism for the future, great storytelling, an emphasis on family entertainment and great talent,
passion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way Disney utilizes the communication from its employees is by using a 120 questions survey
about management performance. These surveys convey if the is effective communication between
management and employees. After the surveys are completed, staff meetings are held to discuss staff
concerns and resolutions are discussed. These meetings are usually held within three weeks to show
employees that Disney is concerned about the welfare of their employees and to help satisfy them.
Walt Disney Company believes that every cast member and staff have valuable information that can
be shared through ongoing communication efforts. As we can see, communication is as important as
the company's values are (Sparks, 2007). As with any company, strong beliefs, values and
communication are needed in order for a company to succeed. Founded in 1923, the Walt Disney
Company has maintained these strong beliefs, values and communication needed to ensure its
success today. The success in employee training with the Disney Institute has led to other companies
seeking their help (Sparks, 2007). This just strengthens the fact that Walt Disney Company has
never wavered from its mission to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of
entertainment.

Introduction
The Walt Disney Company plays and important role in the lives of many, through the services
provided and a place where many people are employed. Understanding overall group dynamics are
vital for continued improvement. It is important to note that group processes currently in place can
influence individual behaviors thus resulting in the overall performance at the group level.
Developing a favorable organizational context that is designed to enable the group to achieve its
goals are paramount. Using the Action Model The Walt Disney Company will be able to focus on its
organizational and group conditions to facilitate a high performing organization. Four conditions of
central importance for continued improvement for the Walt Disney Company are: organizational
context, group design and culture, outside help, and material and technical resources (Harrison,
2005). Given the complexities of these factors managing and approaching these conditions with
caution are critical for sustaining the intentions of The Walt Disney Company, ?to be one of the

The Disney Company : A Mass Media Corporation, And Family...
Essay Statement
In this essay I will look at the corporate company The Walt Disney Company, and explore the
marketing decisions, and nature of the brand design, and its value to the company. Brief Overview
The Walt Disney Company is a mass media corporation, and family entertainment service founded
on October 16, 1923 by Walt Disney, and his older brother, Roy Disney based in Burbank,
California. The company, whose name is commonly shortened to 'Disney' operates on a global basis,
in both established, and emerging markets covering North and Latin America, Europe, The Middle
East, Africa, Russia, and Pacific Asia. Employing approximately 175,000 staff members, and cast
members, they are each an extension to the world, and brand that ... Show more content on

Brand Performance
In determining the present situation of the brand I have, and will continue to apply the Micro
Environment, and Macro Environment analysis to the brand, The Walt Disney Company. The
company has a continuous growth every year in revenue. In 2012 their revenue was $42,278 Million
Dollars, and in following years this grew to $45,041 in 2013, and in present 2014, $48,813.
Consumers purchase the brand, because Disney provides customer satisfaction by understanding
what the market wants, therefore building profitable relationships that keep the customer coming
back to the brand. The company's slogan is 'Where Dreams Come True', and the customers,
especially their core audience; children, believe in this through the brands authentic products, and
services they extend.
Demographic forces that factor into the brands overall performance, include geographic locations of
their consumer, and brand base, and how the brand interacts with them. Disney products "are
produced in over 29,000 facilities in more than 100 countries" and because of this they "face unique
and significant challenges in monitoring performance against our high expectations and
requirements" (Disney Citizenship, 2013). With Disney operating in a large number of countries
world wide, it would be expected that they maintain customer

The paper's content identifies and discusses Disney/ABC Television Group 's consideration to
outsourcing the network 's distribution center to an external cloud infrastructure. The information
explored when considering the move includes the effects on critical network operations, critical
backup processes, ability to manage the system from multiple locations, and content and advertising
management. Information supporting the decision includes the high–level business case, cultural
effects, represented labor issues, information technology support, and managerial focus. The
components of the system include migrating global programming play out, network delivery, and
network operations to an IP cloud architecture (Imagine Communications, 2015). The migration to

The Value Drivers From The Hong Kong
As representatives of the Hong Kong (HK) government in the negotiations of the potential joint
venture between the government and Walt Disney Company with the purpose of building a
Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong, it is our job to determine what the net benefit will be of the
project to the Hong Kong economy and how we should strive to structure the venture in negotiations
with Disney to maximize the net benefit to Hong Kong. Based on our best assumptions about the
future and how we think the venture will ultimately be structured, we believe that the net benefit to
the Hong Kong economy will be HK$345,689.79 million dollars. In the following paragraphs, we
will provide some background information on the project, identify the key value drivers from our
perspective, provide a summary of our sensitivities to these value drivers, estimate the value of the
joint venture under alternative scenarios, map out a negotiation strategy, and explain how we
calculated our best estimate of the net benefit of the project to Hong Kong.
Background Information
First, we believe that it is necessary to provide some background information about the project from
Disney's and Hong Kong's perspective. Walt Disney has been considering a proposal to build a new
theme park in Asia for some years. In the last few years (late 1990s), the company has seen investors
flock to mainland China and is therefore keen to gain a foothold in the Chinese market by opening a
new theme park. To Disney, Hong Kong

The Disney Departure : Differences Before And After The...
The Disney Departure: Differences Before and After the Death of Walt Disney
According to the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Walt Disney Corporation
historically stood for "basic American virtues and values" but now represents a "significant
departure from Disney's family–values image, and a gratuitous insult to Christians and others who
have long supported Disney." Their belief is that Disney entertainment products produced while
Walt Disney was alive differ substantially from those produced in the post–Walt era. Through time,
it is inevitable that particular things have changed since the production of Walt's personal films from
the 1920's to the 1960's (such as being aesthetically and cinematically advanced, in ... Show more

Although this is not directly under Walt's authority, and they are predominant shifts, the basic
"American virtues and values" remains the same throughout each Disney entertainment product that
is released.
One of the most evident changes in Disney entertainment products in the post–Walt era is the
introduction of homosexual characters. Conservative Christian groups continue to argue that
LGBTQ activists have a secret plan to advance homosexual lifestyles, thus destroying 'traditional'
marriage ideas. This 'Gay Agenda,' according to groups such as the Southern Baptist Convention, is
'apparent in Disney releases.' For example, in Tangled, Flynn and Rapunzel visit a tavern that is
filled with men with dreams associated with homosexuality, such as an interior designer and a pastry
chef. Disney television shows have also presented homosexual characters and storylines, with Ellen
Degeneres' 'coming out' episode being the most infamous of the bunch. Recently, on Disney's hit
television show, Good Luck Charlie, two women were introduced to the cast as the homosexual
parents of Charlie's best friend, Taylor. However, even with the debut of these characters in the
post–Walt era, the "basic American virtues and values" are still found in

The Walt Disney Corporation
The Walt Disney Corporation was founded in 1923 under the name Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio
by brothers Walt and Roy Disney. The company brandished its current name in 1986 after the death
of Walt Disney (1). This company like other large conglomerates has a vice grip on the flow of
information that reaches consumers like you and me. Some people believe that having these
corporations constricting our access to information leads to a generation of uninformed people, but
in the day and age when anybody can get onto to google and search with specific enough criteria to
find articles proving any stand point... they were going to be uninformed any way. For example,
there are people out there who believe vaccines cause autism, there are plenty ... Show more content

For example, The Walt Disney Corporation owns more channels than just the ones that share its
namesake. These companies include: ABC broadcast network, Disney Channel, Freeform
publishing, The History Channel, Lifetime Movie Network, Marvel Studios, Pixar Studios, AND a
32% holding of Hulu, an 80% holding of ESPN Inc., and 50% holding of A&E. If you didn't know
the name by now, then it should be painfully obvious at this point. The scarier thing is that each of
the networks listed has even more subsidiaries that add to the reach of Disney. One example is
ESPN Inc., it owns ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN on ABC, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ESPN
Films, ESPNU, ESPN Classic, ESPN Now, SEC Network, and ESPN The Magazine... just to name
a few (6).
Disney is known for that Iconic shape of one specific cartoon mouse, the symbol it's self has
changed as the years go on but Mickey Mouse's head/ silhouette is always an easily recognizable
logo for a company that everyone knows. The logo was originally adopted in 1991, 63 years after
the original "Steamboat Willie" was produced (1). This was one of the many firsts for Disney
allowing them to maintain their status of a multimedia powerhouse of the US. The very first
completely animated feature length film was produced by Disney in 1937, you may have heard of it,
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. No one has ever even attempted anything like this

Richard Wright's Big Boy Leaves Home Essay
Richard Wright's Big Boy Leaves Home Richard Wright's "Big Boy Leaves Home" addresses
several issues through its main character and eventual (though reluctant) hero Big Boy. Through
allusions to survival and primal instincts, Wright confronts everything from escaping racism and the
transportation (both literal and figurative) Big Boy needs to do so, as well as the multiple sacrifices
of Bobo. Big Boy's escape symbolizes both his departure from his home life and his childhood. Big
Boy, unlike his friends, does not have a true name. This namelessness drives his journey, and Big
Boy is constantly singled out in one way or another. The moniker 'Big Boy' is a contradiction–is he a
large boy or is he a grown man?–and drives all of Big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boys follow Big Boy and give him their attention mainly because they have to; he is bigger than
them and quickly becomes the leader of Bobo after the deaths of the other boys. Also, this "train" of
boys is indeed headed for Glory, though they "burst out laughing" when they think of it. The
physical train is a metaphor for the escape to the vaunted North (a land the boys assume they will
never see). This is important to the text because it sets up Big Boy's escape to Chicago later in the
story. The image of the train appears several times; including when Big Boy heads home for the
final time. "Big Boy slowed when he came to the railroad. He wondered if he ought to go through
the streets or down the track. He decided on the tracks. He could dodge a train better than a mob." In
this section, the train serves as the carrier of Big Boy's adulthood. By staying on the tracks he
believes he is still innocent; still hidden from the mob that is after Big Boy because he murdered–
certainly a crime not associated with youthful innocence. Because Big Boy is black, he never really
has true innocence. He has to be mindful of his surroundings at all times, knowing that whites are
always out to get him. But whatever

The Comedy of the American Dream Essays
The Comedy of the American Dream
In the early 1950s, the American dream was the nation's common heartbeat. Citizens longed for the
?ideal? family; most hid their shortcomings. The nuclear family included a mother, father, two
children and a pet, all residing in suburbia, USA. Fathers were the breadwinners, and mothers stayed
home, cooked, and cared for the kids. Each family included a boy and a girl, the former who always
parted his hair to the side and the latter who always wore pigtails. The nation was convinced that if
one worked hard enough, he or she could earn enough money to support the family and have plenty
of professional satisfaction. Everyone sat down to dinner together nightly, and discussed his/her day,
and innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main comedy of the picture arises from the innocence of the characters clashing with the
worldly realisms, and the color transformation of Pleasantville parallels the transition that American
humor has taken over the past half–century. Despite the harsh realities of the Depression and World
War II that led up to this age, an innocence was assumed during the 50s; today, no subject is too
controversial for television. In fact, the main facet of American humor today is the shock between
the ideology of the American dream as it supposedly existed earlier this century and the subsequent
recognition of reality.
Historians and academics offer definitions which underlie today?s humor. In 1937, Walter Blair,
whose 60–year study of humor focused on the nineteenth century development of the genre, stated
that American humor was neither produced only in America nor contained characteristics privy only
to Americans. He offered instead that American humor meant ?humor which is American in that it
has an emphatic ?native quality??a quality imparted by its subject matter and its technique? (92). H.
R. Haweis, half a century earlier in 1882, had defined the technique of American humor as the three
shocks of contrast: business and piety, Aboriginal and Yankee, and the bigness of American nature
versus the smallness of

Essay on Utopia
Disney's Utopian Community
The concept of utopian communities is a hot new commodity among major enterprises. The Walt
Disney Corporation is currently marketing its own community called Celebration. Disney, known
for creating worlds of fantasy through theme parks and movies tackles reality. According to architect
Robert A.M. Stern, the idea behind Celebration is to "recapture the idea of a traditional American
town, traditional in spirit, but modern in terms of what we know about how people live"(Oilande 1).
Also, the town is "structured around the five cornerstones of life in Celebration: community,
education, health, technology, and place"(Oilande 2). Celebration uses this concept to create a
special utopian vision. Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The community is of a dreamlike place, embodying visions of the American flag, bake sales, and
neighborhood gatherings. People will expect to experience a transition as if they were "going to be
leaving America and going into this fantasy kingdom, where there is no crime, with only people like
me. Celebrations premise is that residents will stroll treelined streets to afternoon matinees, waving
to their neighbors on the front porches along the way"(Wilson 2). Despite the beauty of Celebration,
this artificial front gives people reservations about living in such a community.
Another disturbing problem found in the construction of Disney's utopian community is that "The
Celebration Company will subject each home and lot to a Declaration of Perpetual Covenants,
Conditions and Obligations which will reserve to The Celebration Company the right to approve the
architectural designs and esthetics of all improvements in Celebration, as well as the uses that can be
made of all property within Celebration"(Cottrell 5). Such restrictions like house color and lawn
appearance may initially sound like a positive enforcement; but, in reality, it could cause major
problems. People will like the idea at first but if the restrictions get too specific, resentment between
landowners and The Walt Disney Corporation are a possibility. On the other hand, Disney states that
they "have imposed reasonable restrictions to insure a high quality of

Disney Swot Analysis
Discussion
Strength
Strength is a positive aspect internal to your business. Firstly, Walt Disney Company has strong
product portfolio. Walt Disney's products include broadcast television network ABC and cable
networks such as Disney Channel or ESPN, which is one of the most watched cable networks in the
world. Combining the large audience reach of these cable networks, (ESPN has nearly 300 million
and Disney Channel 240 million subscribers) and the solid growth of cable television, Disney's
product portfolio provides a competitive advantage for the company over its competitors.
Secondly, high brand reputation of Walt Disney Company. The company brand has been well known

Subsequently, this company has expands its movie production to new countries. Disney has an
opportunity to expand its movie production to such countries as India or China, where movie
production industries have developed good quality infrastructure. This would result in lower movie
making costs and more localized movies for India and China's markets.
Threats
Threats are challenges created by an unfavorable trend may lead to decrease revenues or profits.
Intense competition is a Disney's threat. Disney operates in very competitive industries such as
media, tourism, parks and resorts, interactive entertainment and others. The competitive background
changes quite radically in the media industry, where news and TV go online and new competitors
with new business models compete more successfully than incumbent media companies. Disney's
parks and resorts business segment also receives strong competition from local competitors who can
offer better–adapted product. This results in growing competitive pressure for Walt Disney
Company.
Also, increasing piracy of Disney's products. The advancements in technology allow copying,
transmitting and distributing copyrighted material much easier. With an increasing number of
internet users and the speed of internet, this poses a great risk to Disney's income, as fewer people
would go to watch movies in a cinema or buy its DVD, when it's freely available online.

It's Time For a Gay or Lesbian Disney Hero Essay
The Walt Disney Company is well–known the world over for its magical "once upon a times" and
wholesome "happily ever afters." Stories like Cinderella, Snow White, and The Little Mermaid all
feature captivating tales of beautiful young women who are pure of heart seeking adventure and true
love. Disney paints the picture of a strong sense of faith and love, which act as guiding forces that
provide access to a lifetime of happiness.
Unfortunately, these stories all lack a crucial sense of diversity in today's emerging and multicultural
world. In the realm of the Disney Princesses franchise specifically, seven of the eleven women are
Caucasian. Of these princesses, Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, and Aurora all exhibit similar
aspects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is time that Disney addressed this lack of diversity in their animated films. To do this, it is
necessary that every aspect of the filmmaking process be inclusive to different identities. For the
well–being of the company's image and a more positive impact on popular culture and human
development, Disney must incorporate the endless possibilities of realistic family values and
individual issues into three introductory films that will open the door for more expressive, inclusive
films and a more accepting environment worldwide.
Although to many the Walt Disney Company may just be a fond childhood memory, Disney's media
and consumer initiatives transcend national boundaries. The Disney corporation owns or exerts
influence in six movie studios (three of which are animation studios), the ABC network (which has
226 affiliated stations), ESPN, and seven other TV channels. They control 227 radio stations, as well
as multiple vacation resorts, theme parks, cruise lines, and Broadway production companies. They
publish books and magazines, and even maintain a secure browser via the Walt Disney Internet
Group. All of this is done while holding 10 franchises that produce consumer products within the

The Disney Company
The Walt Disney Company, more commonly known as Disney is an American multimedia giant
with a $74.9 billion net worth and counting to boot it's no wonder they have such an ever reaching
influence not only in the United States, but also abroad, such as marketing the premise that "any"
girl can be a princess. But since its inception it has been known for churning out some of the best–
animated films to ever grace the silver screen for over a century. While Disney like any other
company started out from humble beginnings, the big corporation is not above seeing or for that
matter creating an atmosphere of controversy and criticism over some of its own pet projects. Some
of these controversies have stemmed from the feminist counter–culture circa 1965 or so; from this
point on a lot of female audiences (as well as the feminists) have argued that the media giant has
been constantly casting female characters as playing second fiddle to the main hero or at the very
least as a stock character for a bit of exaggerated humor. A lot of the films made seem to
unfortunately back the feminist arguments of discrimination and even conditioning the audience in
some cases within the films and even in modern times dating back about twenty years or so back;
Disney sometimes can't really seem to get it right. One example in particular of a hard bitch slap in
the face to some female audiences was with the 1989 release of The Little Mermaid. While many

American Fur Trading Company and John Jacob Astor
The American Fur Company and John Jacob Astor
I. Introduction "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely (Lord Acton). John
Jacob Astor was a man that had absolute power during his era and used his power and wealth to

government or society. Starting out in American as a young German immigrant, John Jacob Astor

He was the "personification of monopoly, determined to rule or ruin," wrote historian Hiram Martin

accountable for the use of that power to society? One complicated issue of the American Fur
Company reign was its impact on the expansion of the United States westward. It strongly
influenced the history of the west, not only making way for permanent settlements but by also
opening the Great Lakes commercial fishing, steamboat transportation, and trade in that area
(Stokesbury). But was the benefit derived from this westward expansion justified by the "extraction"
that took place against its stakeholders or those it affected? Is injustice every justified?

digital media to communicate with target audiences. The internet–based simulated environment
permits users to not only interact with each other, but with products and services provided by
organizations and individuals. Thus, Second Life has become an interactive, collaborative and
commercial communication channel to connect to and influence global audience behavior (Barnes &
Mattsson, 2011).
Already internationally recognized, the Walt Disney Company was an early participant of Second
Life. The purpose of Disney's virtual–world establishment was to give Disney fans a place to
hangout, enjoy the scenery and get updates about the parks (McConnon & Reena, 2007). The five
advantages of the Walt Disney Company using Second Life as a public relations tool are: Tourism
and international public relations have a positive relationship, access to target audience feedback
through personal interfaces, Second Life serves as another platform for dissemination of information
and promotion of organizational activities, the content of the virtual world creates an hyperreality
for identified target audiences and the platform removes geographically barriers encouraging people
from around the world to collaborate. According to Curtin and Gaither (2007), "international

Disney 's Business Factors The Disney Corporation is a leader in both the family entertainment and
the movie media industries. They are internationally acclaimed for their amusement parks and
resorts, media networks, studio entertainment, and interactive media (Bahera, 2012, para. 1).
Through Walt Disney's vision, drive, creativity, and passion, Disney has become one of the world's
most successful multi–media corporations. Disney established its core values from the beginning,
and they are still lived today. Since Walt Disney's departure in 1966, Disney has had several leaders,

There is no material competition to Disney because of this. The price of entry into this entertainment
market is high, and no corporation is big enough to pay it. The biggest external threat to Disney
currently is the recession. While American parks are not too negatively affected in a downturn
economy, its international parks struggle financially. Disney's share price has fallen by 14% in the
past year. Expanding its online business and earning more money through traditional media could
offset these losses. It certainly is in a better place to bounce back from the current economic
recession than most other big media firms. Because Disney has a decentralized approach to its
organization, keeps its employees actively involved, and empowers its managers to show
appreciation and recognition of others, Disney's core is solid and its foundation is strong, and it
should continue to reign as one of the most admired organizations in the world.
For Disney's management to produce a good end product and to maintain that product, they have to
implement control. At this stage in the management process control is not necessarily micro–
managing, though it is a form. Control is about guiding employees. The path of the organization, in
this case Disney, has already been set. By keeping employees on that path, it exemplifies control. It
is ironic that Disney maintains the "happiest place on earth" mentality, but it is one of the hardest
places to maintain that

Reality Shows And Its Effects On The World 's View Of Society
Today 's population is highly dependant on the world 's view of themselves. More and more young
people are more concerned with how many likes they get on Facebook, or instagram then they are
with trying to spend quality time with their families. How did America end up so disconnected with
one another? why is it that there are television sets in elevators, bathroom and malls? Our world is
controlled by television, social media and the made up notion of what reality is.
Reality Television shows are defined as a program purposely and continuously filmed and is
intended for pure entertainment and not education. Reality shows can be found on almost every
single television network, from PBS to The O Network. Many Americans are addicted and obsessed
with these staged situations that they believe are part of some normal way of living. Television and
reality shows have somehow become part of our everyday lives and made characters household
names throughout the entire world. Networks that endorse these shows spend countless hours and
money to try and depict a normal day and grab the watchers attention so the viewer not only relates
to that person and our group of people, but also the viewer wants to know more about the individual
and in some weird way live through these experiences by watching these shows . Usually there is a
even numbers of men and women on each show, a few minorities and at least one homesexual/

What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Uber
Without a doubt, at the rate Uber is growing now, the future to expand into international markets
like Canada looks very bright. However, in order to roll out an expansion as large as this it is
necessary to capitalize on Uber's strengths, and connect those strengths to external opportunities. In
my SWOT diagram I have chosen to outline the strengths and opportunities that best support each
other. To start, one of Uber's main strengths is that their price and efficiency is highly superior when
compared to a traditional taxi service. Uber can use their lower pricing, and shorter wait time to
entice consumers that are opportunely unsatisfied with conventional taxi rates. Along with this, Uber
was one of the first to launch a service with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another opportunity that follows this is that as the company grows, there will be a rise in company
drivers as well. This will only better Uber's strength in efficiency; having more drivers around will
increase the chance that the driver's will be in close proximity of customers. Many of the other
strengths I highlighted in this SWOT diagram were based on the cost of operation for Uber being
relatively low. Therefore, money that is saved on operational cost can be spent on exploiting
opportunities to expand into new markets (Canada), or alternative consumer needs (moving trucks).
However, expansions for the American company wont be easy when taking into account the internal
weaknesses and external threats that they face. One of Uber's main weaknesses is lack of
differentiation among competition. There is really nothing in place to stop consumers, or drivers for
that matter from flipping to a new company if they are offered a better deal. Lack of consumer and
driver loyalty is based on the fact that the driving app allows for minimal connection between the
clients or drivers, and the actual company of

The American Fur Company
Question#02:
How did the environment of the American Fur Company change in the 1830's? What deep historical
forces are implicated in these changes?
The American Fur Company:
The American Fur Company was founded by John Jacob Astor in 1808. The company grew to
monopolize the fur trade in the United States by 1830, and became one of the largest businesses in
the country.
In early 1830's it seemed nothing could slow Astor. But this environment suddenly changed for fur
companies. Although the American Fur company was still competing with other Fur companies,
unfavorable trends were building that would bring it down.

Question#05: On balance, is the legacy of the American fur company and of the fur trade itself a
positive legacy? Or is the impact predominantly negative?
American Fur Company and the Fur trade itself is a sort of positive legacy with all its faults and
shortcomings. It was in fact the main actor in the global industry with enormous geopolitical power.
It marked the trails that were followed by the settlers. It is very true to say that American Fur

I Chose Is If Disney Ran Your Hospital, 9 1 / 2 Things You...
The book I chose is If Disney Ran Your Hospital, 9 ½ things You Would Do Differently by Fred
Lee. Curiosity was my main motive of selecting this book. Its title grabbed my attention and
inspired me to find out how the Disney, the happiest place on Earth, would do business differently
than a hospital. On one hand, Disney, a make–believe world of fantasy and fun, holds no
resemblance with the hospital, where an imagine of anxious and sick patients dominate. On the
other hands, there are many similarities. Both facilities have to manage hundreds of employees,
have different departments with distinct functioning, and provide a variety of services to people.
Nonetheless, from the business point of view, the Disney is running a much more effective, safe, and
efficient operation. The only way to satisfy the curiosity is to read the book.
Key Lessons from Disney
The 1st Lesson: Hospital values must be in line with what patients want. The key driver for patient
satisfaction is the courtesy, not efficiency of the hospital. Patients judge the service received by
courtesy, but employees are managed according to efficiency and safety. Although provide safe care
is paramount, the hospitals do not learn any credit for providing safe clinical practice and
environmental safety.
The 2nd Lesson: The concept of patient satisfaction is not equivalent to patient loyalty. The score of
four on the Press Ganey means that the patient is six times more likely to use other hospital's

Essay on Disney’s Entertainment Empire: Exploiting Innocence
Disney is loved by millions of people around the world, but when it is exposed beyond the smiles
and the music, Disney is far from being magical. When Americans are asked to describe Disney into
words, majority would often reply with energetic responses, such as magical, imaginative, creative,
and inspirational. Although Disney's accomplishments dominated the world of fairy tales and
fantasies, many people argue that Disney targeted innocent children for all the wrong reasons. Walt
Disney developed his business into a multi–billion dollar television network, theme parks, motion

Walt Disney abused his power in the media because he control multiple media outlets and basically
shape reality for viewers. The documentary, The Mickey Mouse Monopoly: Disney Childhood and
Corporate Power, further explain Disney's representation of corporate power and entertainment by
using romance as fantasy that doesn't need to be questioned by anyone. Disney's tactical way of
appealing to majority allows our society to be blindsided by "special effects", commercials, and
magical aspect of Disney's tales. Furthermore, Disney utilizes gender by applying sexual and erotic
connotation that are observe by young children which are heavily emphasized in stories and fairy
tales produced by Disney Productions. Zipes continues his argument towards Disney demonstrations
of hyper sexualized images and reveals, "The carefully arranged images narrate through seduction
and imposition of the animator's hand and the camera" (Zipes 351). Zipes reminds us that Disney
use delightful images, humorous figures and erotic or sexual signs to deprive the audience through
the production and manipulation. Audiences can no longer visualize a fairy tale for themselves as
when they read because pictures and film remove the audience from envisioning their own
characters, roles, and desires. Once again Disney aims for young girls with their objectification of
femininity in society by incorporating

Rhetorical Analysis Of Disney's Frozen
Rhetorical Analysis: Disney's Frozen
Walt Disney Productions prestige is to never disappoint and their latest movie Frozen, is no
exception. The movie centers around the lives of two sisters, kind–hearted Anna and the frightened
Snow Queen Elsa. Fearless Anna sets off on a journey to find her sister, who flees to an icy
mountain after she accidentally traps the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter with her ice
powers. Disney's 2013 animated film reeled in its target audience and more; the film intended to
appeal to children's of all ages surprisingly enough enticed a wider audience largely comprised of
non–families. Disney's reputation for promoting happiness and the well–being of American families
led to the direct success of the movie Frozen. The film met its purpose, depicting a touching
storyline – showing the importance of family and undermining the traditional concept of "true love."
Furthermore, Walt Disney Productions established sufficient credibility within its viewers and
audience with the use of artistic proofs such as; ethos, logos, and pathos. Disney's tradition is to
provide the audience with an educational piece of entertainment, Frozen is undeniably one of those
Disney animated films worth seeing. Walt Disney Productions strategic use of rhetoric made it
evident that the movie was going to be an all–time hit – some may even say "the biggest children's
film of all time" – simply because it was just that, a Disney movie.

The profitability began to fall in 2000s for many reasons. Firstly the animation movie business could
not create any blockbuster movies after "The Lion King" and "Pocahontas" which would drive up
revenues. So to earn more revenues, Disney released "Pirates of the Caribbean" in 2003, which was
a big hit followed by its sequels which were successful too. However other flops had offset the
studio entertainments unit's profits. Secondly there was a shift to produce animated movies using
computer–based digital technology in 1990s. Before this technology was introduced Disney
distributed Pixar's films such as Toy Story, Toy Story–2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and The
Incredibles. The revenues from these movies became the single biggest income source of profits of
studio entertainment. However, Steve Jobs Pixar's CEO, was reluctant to renew contract with
Disney which was due to expire in 2005. This was firstly due to unhealthy relationship between him
and Eisner and secondly Disney laid off animators which had created the past success which new
computer–based technology was introduced. If the contract was not renewed Disney would fall in
huge trouble, because more than 40% or a billion of operating income of its movie studios came
from Pixar's success. Disney's brightest spot was Miramax pictures, but the Weinstein Brothers who

Disney and Gender Identity Essay
Disney's Influence
Society cements certain roles for children based on gender, and these roles, recognized during
infancy with the assistance of consumerism, rarely allow for openness of definition. A study
conducted by Witt (1997) observed that parents often expect certain behaviors based on gender as
soon as twenty–four hours after the birth of a child. The gender socialization of infants appears most
noticeably by the age of eighteen months, when children display sex–stereotyped toy preferences
(Caldera, Huston, & O'Brian 1989). This socialization proves extremely influential on later notions
and conceptions of gender. Children understand gender in very simple ways, one way being the
notion of gender permanence–if one is born a girl or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence of Influence
According to a 1995 study by Michael Eisner, "more than 200 million people a year watch a Disney
film...385 million watch a Disney TV show every week...more than 50 million people a year from
all lands pass through the turnstiles of Disney theme parks" (Bud 2005). Disney's influence pervades
society. The media inundation that children receive thanks to Walt Disney proves problematic.
Studies have been done to prove that television and visual media influence children's views of
gender. At a young age, the mind is plastic and the world is composed of observations and
experiences. The Kaiser Family Foundation conducted a study of children in 2003 then again in
2005 to observe the amount of television watched per week in a longitudinal study. They concluded
that media exposure in children was on the steady rise. Earlier, in 1999, the Kaiser Family
Foundation reported that children watched 2.5–3 hours of television each day–20 hours a week.
Disney owns companies from Baby Einstein Company to Marvel Entertainment to ABC studios,
making their range of influence span across generations ("Resources"). Therefore, the Disney view
seeps into the minds of children, adolescents, and adults alike. In 2010, Kyla Boyse researched TV
statistics in children. On average, 2–5 year olds spent thirty–two hours a week watching

Company Analysis : L Brands Essay
L Brands is a specialty retailer focusing on women's apparel, personal care, and beauty products.
Their major brands include Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body works. L Brands, like all
companies, has developed a strategy that they believe will help them be successful. A firm's strategy
encompasses its specific goals, the actions or policies to achieve these goals, and the allocation of its
resources to these actions and policies. Firms try to develop a strategy that they believe will help
them gain a competitive advantage over other firms in the industry. A competitive advantage is the
ability of a firm to consistently earn profits above the industry average. A DuPont Analysis of a firm
and its competitors helps to determine whether a firm is experiencing a competitive advantage. A
DuPont Analysis shows the Return on Equity (ROE) of a firm. This is a good measure of its
profitability. DuPont Analyses also provide a breakdown of ROE to examine the source of any
profitability. L Brands employs a benefit strategy. This means that they attempt to provide the best
benefits to their customers without necessarily focusing on keeping price down. They say that they
are not selling products, they are selling experiences. They do this largely by focusing on providing
high quality in–store experiences and utilizing persuasive advertising. They make use of in–store
marketing images, music, and helpful sales associates to reinforce what their brand represents. This

Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of The
Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages is that,
simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several aspects of the
film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly dangerous task,
knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a large sum of money.
Of course, the incentive behind their choice can be attributed to the local American oil company that

One could argue that the characters own lust for money and material objects caused them to take the

American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very clear what the
dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible consequences that they
could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi,
and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only the lust for money that caused
them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives? To answer this question, the first
two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These are the two characters who undergo
the largest character development throughout the film, and who have the most in–depth reasons for
putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy.
His life revolves around portraying an image of being couth, and projecting his superior ego on
other people. Mario is the younger tough–guy, still trying to make a reputation for himself, who

it is for this reason that the cinema plays a vital role in shaping and sustaining cultural normalcies.
Socialization of gender and identity are mirrored through sexist media depictions that convey the

On a lighter note, Disney's animated feature Tangled (a take on Grimm's fairytale Rapunzel) is
funny and visually stunning; however, it rekindles the same plot and recurring theme across all
genres. As a woman, you can be one of two things, either a princess awaiting rescue from her prince
or an evil stepmother (witch). On the contrary, as a man, you get all the action, and in many aspects,
the world is handed to you. Rapunzel, imprisoned within the tower since a child, is a meek like
female with green eyes, blonde hair, and a teeny waist who sings about doing chores and wonders
when her life will begin. Rapunzel is stereotypically overly emotional, swinging from one end of a
mood swing to another, overly preoccupied with being saved, and of course, is beautiful. Beauty,
with respect to this context, equals white, blonde, thin and young. In a modern day perspective, this
is problematic because her body represents the celebration of White femininity and disregards other
ethnicities. Not only does this movie portray females from a stereotypical frame work, but it induces
a false perception of beauty, one that we must all attain or strive for.

Advertisements On The Street With Advertising
I do feel bombarded by advertising in my daily life, because advertising is everywhere. In my daily
life, I take a bus and go to school, and go to work, and use my phone and computer. I mostly see
many ads on the side and back of every bus I take. Also, I can see many advertisements on the street
with many advertising boards. Even when I log in to Facebook, I can see many ads on the side of
my screen or in the middle of my friends' posts. One that bothers me most is the ad that suddenly
pops up during using my computer. Also, I really don't like to see ads before seeing any YouTube
videos. It is okay to watch movie trailers before watching actual movie in the theater. However, I
think some ads don't respect people's thoughts. For example, I can't watch any scary movies, and
YouTube allows showing people scary movie trailer that I can't even skip. Another thing that bothers
me is that some people put ads in my mailbox and on the doorknob. Sometimes, I want to live at
least one day without ads. I see them everywhere every time. I think too many ads rather give people
negative images.
I believe a brand can forge an emotional bond with me. It is easy for the brands to forge an
emotional bond with people because most people are tended to be persuaded by a brand's marketing.

Five Impetitive Forces Of IBM
In the epoch of globalization and widespread use of technologies, emerging trends change rapidly.
Thus, the future of any competitive company becomes less and less predictable. To avoid this
situation, enterprises apply risk prevention and mitigation strategies aimed to remove the general
threat of substitution. However, a biggest danger derives from small day–to–day changes which are
likely to affect the businesses slowly but notably. Taking IBM as a vivid example of a successful
company, it is reasonable to claim that it also is endangered by non–linear changes and needs to be
ready for the uncertain future. To prepare the organization for potential unstable situations, it is
important to consider five competitive forces of the company as well as global technological trends,
in accordance with the specialization of a business entity. First, the influence of customer and
supplier power, established rivals, new entrants or substitutes may notably impact the productivity
and profitability of IBM (Porter, 2008). To neutralize the supplier's power, the IT company needs to
put efforts into improvement of its production process because it mostly relies on staff. To attract
consumers, IBM can focus on the idea of multiplatform consisting of several technological start–
ups, where each one has a different function. As a result, with the versatile range a products, it
would be easier for the company to pressure new entrants and spend more resources on research and
development (R&D).

  • 1. Walt Disney Company Walt Disney Company Angela Pursel University of Phoenix COM 530/ Communications for Accountants Brent Smith March 21, 2011 Walt Disney Company Walt Disney is a well–known name in today's society. Walt Disney once stated, "You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world but it requires people to make the dream a reality" (Sparks, 2007). Marty Sklar, Vice Chairman and principal creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering was quoted as saying, "From the beginning, starting with Walt Disney, we have had five tings that make me proud to be a part of this company: high quality, products, optimism for the future, great storytelling, an emphasis on family entertainment and great talent, passion ... These surveys convey if the is effective communication between management and employees. After the surveys are completed, staff meetings are held to discuss staff concerns and resolutions are discussed. These meetings are usually held within three weeks to show employees that Disney is concerned about the welfare of their employees and to help satisfy them. Walt Disney Company believes that every cast member and staff have valuable information that can be shared through ongoing communication efforts. As we can see, communication is as important as the company's values are (Sparks, 2007). As with any company, strong beliefs, values and communication are needed in order for a company to succeed. Founded in 1923, the Walt Disney Company has maintained these strong beliefs, values and communication needed to ensure its success today. The success in employee training with the Disney Institute has led to other companies seeking their help (Sparks, 2007). This just strengthens the fact that Walt Disney Company has never wavered from its mission to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment. References: Sparks, W. The Disney Departure: Differences Before and After the Death of Walt Disney According to the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Walt Disney Corporation historically stood for "basic American virtues and values" but now represents a "significant departure from Disney's family–values image, and a gratuitous insult to Christians and others who have long supported Disney." Their belief is that Disney entertainment products produced while Walt Disney was alive differ substantially from those produced in the post–Walt era. Through time, it is inevitable that particular things have changed since the production of Walt's personal films from the 1920's to the 1960's (such as being aesthetically and cinematically advanced, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is not directly under Walt's authority, and they are predominant shifts, the basic "American virtues and values" remains the same throughout each Disney entertainment product that is released. One of the most evident changes in Disney entertainment products in the post–Walt era is the introduction of homosexual characters. Conservative Christian groups continue to argue that LGBTQ activists have a secret plan to advance homosexual lifestyles, thus destroying 'traditional' marriage ideas. This 'Gay Agenda,' according to groups such as the Southern Baptist Convention, is 'apparent in Disney releases.' For example, in Tangled, Flynn and Rapunzel visit a tavern that is filled with men with dreams associated with homosexuality, such as an interior designer and a pastry chef. Disney television shows have also presented homosexual characters and storylines, with Ellen Degeneres' 'coming out' episode being the most infamous of the bunch. Recently, on Disney's hit television show, Good Luck Charlie, two women were introduced to the cast as the homosexual parents of Charlie's best friend, Taylor. However, even with the debut of these characters in the post–Walt era, the "basic American virtues and values" are still found in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Walt Disney Corporation The Walt Disney Corporation was founded in 1923 under the name Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio by brothers Walt and Roy Disney. The company brandished its current name in 1986 after the death of Walt Disney (1). This company like other large conglomerates has a vice grip on the flow of information that reaches consumers like you and me. Some people believe that having these corporations constricting our access to information leads to a generation of uninformed people, but in the day and age when anybody can get onto to google and search with specific enough criteria to find articles proving any stand point... they were going to be uninformed any way. For example, there are people out there who believe vaccines cause autism, there are plenty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, The Walt Disney Corporation owns more channels than just the ones that share its namesake. These companies include: ABC broadcast network, Disney Channel, Freeform publishing, The History Channel, Lifetime Movie Network, Marvel Studios, Pixar Studios, AND a 32% holding of Hulu, an 80% holding of ESPN Inc., and 50% holding of A&E. If you didn't know the name by now, then it should be painfully obvious at this point. The scarier thing is that each of the networks listed has even more subsidiaries that add to the reach of Disney. One example is ESPN Inc., it owns ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN on ABC, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Films, ESPNU, ESPN Classic, ESPN Now, SEC Network, and ESPN The Magazine... just to name a few (6). Disney is known for that Iconic shape of one specific cartoon mouse, the symbol it's self has changed as the years go on but Mickey Mouse's head/ silhouette is always an easily recognizable logo for a company that everyone knows. • 18. Richard Wright's Big Boy Leaves Home Essay Richard Wright's Big Boy Leaves Home Richard Wright's "Big Boy Leaves Home" addresses several issues through its main character and eventual (though reluctant) hero Big Boy. Through allusions to survival and primal instincts, Wright confronts everything from escaping racism and the transportation (both literal and figurative) Big Boy needs to do so, as well as the multiple sacrifices of Bobo. Big Boy's escape symbolizes both his departure from his home life and his childhood. Big Boy, unlike his friends, does not have a true name. This namelessness drives his journey, and Big Boy is constantly singled out in one way or another. The moniker 'Big Boy' is a contradiction–is he a large boy or is he a grown man?–and drives all of Big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boys follow Big Boy and give him their attention mainly because they have to; he is bigger than them and quickly becomes the leader of Bobo after the deaths of the other boys. Also, this "train" of boys is indeed headed for Glory, though they "burst out laughing" when they think of it. The physical train is a metaphor for the escape to the vaunted North (a land the boys assume they will never see). This is important to the text because it sets up Big Boy's escape to Chicago later in the story. The image of the train appears several times; including when Big Boy heads home for the final time. "Big Boy slowed when he came to the railroad. He wondered if he ought to go through the streets or down the track. He decided on the tracks. He could dodge a train better than a mob." In this section, the train serves as the carrier of Big Boy's adulthood. By staying on the tracks he believes he is still innocent; still hidden from the mob that is after Big Boy because he murdered– certainly a crime not associated with youthful innocence. Because Big Boy is black, he never really has true innocence. He has to be mindful of his surroundings at all times, knowing that whites are always out to get him. But whatever ... • 20. The Comedy of the American Dream Essays The Comedy of the American Dream In the early 1950s, the American dream was the nation's common heartbeat. Citizens longed for the ?ideal? family; most hid their shortcomings. The nuclear family included a mother, father, two children and a pet, all residing in suburbia, USA. Fathers were the breadwinners, and mothers stayed home, cooked, and cared for the kids. Each family included a boy and a girl, the former who always parted his hair to the side and the latter who always wore pigtails. The nation was convinced that if one worked hard enough, he or she could earn enough money to support the family and have plenty of professional satisfaction. The main comedy of the picture arises from the innocence of the characters clashing with the worldly realisms, and the color transformation of Pleasantville parallels the transition that American humor has taken over the past half–century. Despite the harsh realities of the Depression and World War II that led up to this age, an innocence was assumed during the 50s; today, no subject is too controversial for television. In fact, the main facet of American humor today is the shock between the ideology of the American dream as it supposedly existed earlier this century and the subsequent recognition of reality. Historians and academics offer definitions which underlie today?s humor. In 1937, Walter Blair, whose 60–year study of humor focused on the nineteenth century development of the genre, stated that American humor was neither produced only in America nor contained characteristics privy only to Americans. He offered instead that American humor meant ?humor which is American in that it has an emphatic ?native quality??a quality imparted by its subject matter and its technique? (92). H. R. Haweis, half a century earlier in 1882, had defined the technique of American humor as the three shocks of contrast: business and piety, Aboriginal and Yankee, and the bigness of American nature versus the smallness of ... • 22. Essay on Utopia Disney's Utopian Community The concept of utopian communities is a hot new commodity among major enterprises. The Walt Disney Corporation is currently marketing its own community called Celebration. Disney, known for creating worlds of fantasy through theme parks and movies tackles reality. According to architect Robert A.M. Stern, the idea behind Celebration is to "recapture the idea of a traditional American town, traditional in spirit, but modern in terms of what we know about how people live"(Oilande 1). Also, the town is "structured around the five cornerstones of life in Celebration: community, education, health, technology, and place"(Oilande 2). The community is of a dreamlike place, embodying visions of the American flag, bake sales, and neighborhood gatherings. People will expect to experience a transition as if they were "going to be leaving America and going into this fantasy kingdom, where there is no crime, with only people like me. Celebrations premise is that residents will stroll treelined streets to afternoon matinees, waving to their neighbors on the front porches along the way"(Wilson 2). Despite the beauty of Celebration, this artificial front gives people reservations about living in such a community. Another disturbing problem found in the construction of Disney's utopian community is that "The Celebration Company will subject each home and lot to a Declaration of Perpetual Covenants, Conditions and Obligations which will reserve to The Celebration Company the right to approve the architectural designs and esthetics of all improvements in Celebration, as well as the uses that can be made of all property within Celebration"(Cottrell 5). Such restrictions like house color and lawn appearance may initially sound like a positive enforcement; but, in reality, it could cause major problems. People will like the idea at first but if the restrictions get too specific, resentment between landowners and The Walt Disney Corporation are a possibility. Disney operates in very competitive industries such as media, tourism, parks and resorts, interactive entertainment and others. The competitive background changes quite radically in the media industry, where news and TV go online and new competitors with new business models compete more successfully than incumbent media companies. Disney's parks and resorts business segment also receives strong competition from local competitors who can offer better–adapted product. This results in growing competitive pressure for Walt Disney Company. Also, increasing piracy of Disney's products. The advancements in technology allow copying, transmitting and distributing copyrighted material much easier. The Disney Company The Walt Disney Company, more commonly known as Disney is an American multimedia giant with a $74.9 billion net worth and counting to boot it's no wonder they have such an ever reaching influence not only in the United States, but also abroad, such as marketing the premise that "any" girl can be a princess. But since its inception it has been known for churning out some of the best– animated films to ever grace the silver screen for over a century. While Disney like any other company started out from humble beginnings, the big corporation is not above seeing or for that matter creating an atmosphere of controversy and criticism over some of its own pet projects. Some of these controversies have stemmed from the feminist counter–culture circa 1965 or so; from this point on a lot of female audiences (as well as the feminists) have argued that the media giant has been constantly casting female characters as playing second fiddle to the main hero or at the very least as a stock character for a bit of exaggerated humor. A lot of the films made seem to unfortunately back the feminist arguments of discrimination and even conditioning the audience in some cases within the films and even in modern times dating back about twenty years or so back; Disney sometimes can't really seem to get it right. One example in particular of a hard bitch slap in the face to some female audiences was with the 1989 release of The Little Mermaid. While many kids who saw it growing up they might've ... Disney's share price has fallen by 14% in the past year. Expanding its online business and earning more money through traditional media could offset these losses. However, in order to roll out an expansion as large as this it is necessary to capitalize on Uber's strengths, and connect those strengths to external opportunities. In my SWOT diagram I have chosen to outline the strengths and opportunities that best support each other. To start, one of Uber's main strengths is that their price and efficiency is highly superior when compared to a traditional taxi service. Uber can use their lower pricing, and shorter wait time to entice consumers that are opportunely unsatisfied with conventional taxi rates. Along with this, Uber was one of the first to launch a service with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another opportunity that follows this is that as the company grows, there will be a rise in company drivers as well. Many of the other strengths I highlighted in this SWOT diagram were based on the cost of operation for Uber being relatively low. Therefore, money that is saved on operational cost can be spent on exploiting opportunities to expand into new markets (Canada), or alternative consumer needs (moving trucks). However, expansions for the American company wont be easy when taking into account the internal weaknesses and external threats that they face. One of Uber's main weaknesses is lack of differentiation among competition. There is really nothing in place to stop consumers, or drivers for that matter from flipping to a new company if they are offered a better deal. Curiosity was my main motive of selecting this book. Its title grabbed my attention and inspired me to find out how the Disney, the happiest place on Earth, would do business differently than a hospital. On one hand, Disney, a make–believe world of fantasy and fun, holds no resemblance with the hospital, where an imagine of anxious and sick patients dominate. On the other hands, there are many similarities. Both facilities have to manage hundreds of employees, have different departments with distinct functioning, and provide a variety of services to people. Nonetheless, from the business point of view, the Disney is running a much more effective, safe, and efficient operation. The only way to satisfy the curiosity is to read the book. Key Lessons from Disney The 1st Lesson: Hospital values must be in line with what patients want. The key driver for patient satisfaction is the courtesy, not efficiency of the hospital. Patients judge the service received by courtesy, but employees are managed according to efficiency and safety. Although provide safe care is paramount, the hospitals do not learn any credit for providing safe clinical practice and environmental safety. Disney's 2013 animated film reeled in its target audience and more; the film intended to appeal to children's of all ages surprisingly enough enticed a wider audience largely comprised of non–families. Disney's reputation for promoting happiness and the well–being of American families led to the direct success of the movie Frozen. The film met its purpose, depicting a touching storyline – showing the importance of family and undermining the traditional concept of "true love." Furthermore, Walt Disney Productions established sufficient credibility within its viewers and audience with the use of artistic proofs such as; ethos, logos, and pathos. Disney's tradition is to provide the audience with an educational piece of entertainment, Frozen is undeniably one of those Disney animated films worth seeing. Walt Disney Productions strategic use of rhetoric made it evident that the movie was going to be an all–time hit – some may even say "the biggest children's film of all time" – simply because it was just that, a Disney movie. • 56. Case Analysis on Walt Disney The history, development and growth of Walt Disney Company over time The Walt Disney Company has matured from the children's cartoon dream–factory of brothers Roy and Walt Disney into the world's second largest media conglomerate, behind Time–Warner (Hoover's).In the year 2005, Robert Iger replaced Micheal Eisner as the CEO of Walt Disney. When Micheal Eisner was CEO: Micheal Eisner had a very centralized management style and expected his managers to develop a five–year and ten year plans for their divisions to predict their future growth. Eisner followed the same strategies he followed in the 1980's in 1990's. He build Disney's strengths in three areas of entertainment and recreation, motion pictures and video and consumer products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The profitability began to fall in 2000s for many reasons. Firstly the animation movie business could not create any blockbuster movies after "The Lion King" and "Pocahontas" which would drive up revenues. So to earn more revenues, Disney released "Pirates of the Caribbean" in 2003, which was a big hit followed by its sequels which were successful too. However other flops had offset the studio entertainments unit's profits. Secondly there was a shift to produce animated movies using computer–based digital technology in 1990s. Before this technology was introduced Disney distributed Pixar's films such as Toy Story, Toy Story–2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. The revenues from these movies became the single biggest income source of profits of studio entertainment. However, Steve Jobs Pixar's CEO, was reluctant to renew contract with Disney which was due to expire in 2005. This was firstly due to unhealthy relationship between him and Eisner and secondly Disney laid off animators which had created the past success which new computer–based technology was introduced. If the contract was not renewed Disney would fall in huge trouble, because more than 40% or a billion of operating income of its movie studios came from Pixar's success. • 58. Disney and Gender Identity Essay Disney's Influence Society cements certain roles for children based on gender, and these roles, recognized during infancy with the assistance of consumerism, rarely allow for openness of definition. A study conducted by Witt (1997) observed that parents often expect certain behaviors based on gender as soon as twenty–four hours after the birth of a child. The gender socialization of infants appears most noticeably by the age of eighteen months, when children display sex–stereotyped toy preferences (Caldera, Huston, & O'Brian 1989). This socialization proves extremely influential on later notions and conceptions of gender. Children understand gender in very simple ways, one way being the notion of gender permanence–if one is born a girl or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evidence of Influence According to a 1995 study by Michael Eisner, "more than 200 million people a year watch a Disney film...385 million watch a Disney TV show every week...more than 50 million people a year from all lands pass through the turnstiles of Disney theme parks" (Bud 2005). Disney's influence pervades society. The media inundation that children receive thanks to Walt Disney proves problematic. Studies have been done to prove that television and visual media influence children's views of gender. At a young age, the mind is plastic and the world is composed of observations and experiences. The Kaiser Family Foundation conducted a study of children in 2003 then again in 2005 to observe the amount of television watched per week in a longitudinal study. They concluded that media exposure in children was on the steady rise. Earlier, in 1999, the Kaiser Family Foundation reported that children watched 2.5–3 hours of television each day–20 hours a week. Disney owns companies from Baby Einstein Company to Marvel Entertainment to ABC studios, making their range of influence span across generations ("Resources"). Therefore, the Disney view seeps into the minds of children, adolescents, and adults alike. In 2010, Kyla Boyse researched TV statistics in children. Their major brands include Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body works. L Brands, like all companies, has developed a strategy that they believe will help them be successful. A firm's strategy encompasses its specific goals, the actions or policies to achieve these goals, and the allocation of its resources to these actions and policies. Firms try to develop a strategy that they believe will help them gain a competitive advantage over other firms in the industry. A competitive advantage is the ability of a firm to consistently earn profits above the industry average. A DuPont Analysis of a firm and its competitors helps to determine whether a firm is experiencing a competitive advantage. A DuPont Analysis shows the Return on Equity (ROE) of a firm. This is a good measure of its profitability. DuPont Analyses also provide a breakdown of ROE to examine the source of any profitability. L Brands employs a benefit strategy. This means that they attempt to provide the best benefits to their customers without necessarily focusing on keeping price down. They say that they are not selling products, they are selling experiences. They do this largely by focusing on providing high quality in–store experiences and utilizing persuasive advertising. Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of The Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages is that, simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several aspects of the film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly dangerous task, knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a large sum of money. Of course, the incentive behind their choice can be attributed to the local American oil company that is offering the money, which controls the local economy in the first place (the implication is that these men would not have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could argue that the characters own lust for money and material objects caused them to take the job transporting the nitroglycerine, and it is their own fault for what happened. After all, when the American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very clear what the dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible consequences that they could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi, and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only the lust for money that caused them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives? To answer this question, the first two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These are the two characters who undergo the largest character development throughout the film, and who have the most in–depth reasons for putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy. His life revolves around portraying an image of being couth, and projecting his superior ego on other people. Mario is the younger tough–guy, still trying to make a reputation for himself, who believes that by hooking up with Jo he can gain some respect from the other people around him. For ... Socialization of gender and identity are mirrored through sexist media depictions that convey the relative positions of women and men in modern western democracies. On a lighter note, Disney's animated feature Tangled (a take on Grimm's fairytale Rapunzel) is funny and visually stunning; however, it rekindles the same plot and recurring theme across all genres. As a woman, you can be one of two things, either a princess awaiting rescue from her prince or an evil stepmother (witch). On the contrary, as a man, you get all the action, and in many aspects, the world is handed to you. Rapunzel, imprisoned within the tower since a child, is a meek like female with green eyes, blonde hair, and a teeny waist who sings about doing chores and wonders when her life will begin. Rapunzel is stereotypically overly emotional, swinging from one end of a mood swing to another, overly preoccupied with being saved, and of course, is beautiful. Beauty, with respect to this context, equals white, blonde, thin and young. In a modern day perspective, this is problematic because her body represents the celebration of White femininity and disregards other ethnicities. Not only does this movie portray females from a stereotypical frame work, but it induces a false perception of beauty, one that we must all attain or strive for. In my daily life, I take a bus and go to school, and go to work, and use my phone and computer. I mostly see many ads on the side and back of every bus I take. Also, I can see many advertisements on the street with many advertising boards. Even when I log in to Facebook, I can see many ads on the side of my screen or in the middle of my friends' posts. One that bothers me most is the ad that suddenly pops up during using my computer. Also, I really don't like to see ads before seeing any YouTube videos. It is okay to watch movie trailers before watching actual movie in the theater. However, I think some ads don't respect people's thoughts. For example, I can't watch any scary movies, and YouTube allows showing people scary movie trailer that I can't even skip. Another thing that bothers me is that some people put ads in my mailbox and on the doorknob. Sometimes, I want to live at least one day without ads. I see them everywhere every time. I think too many ads rather give people negative images. I believe a brand can forge an emotional bond with me. It is easy for the brands to forge an emotional bond with people because most people are tended to be persuaded by a brand's marketing. • 76. Five Impetitive Forces Of IBM In the epoch of globalization and widespread use of technologies, emerging trends change rapidly. Thus, the future of any competitive company becomes less and less predictable. To avoid this situation, enterprises apply risk prevention and mitigation strategies aimed to remove the general threat of substitution. However, a biggest danger derives from small day–to–day changes which are likely to affect the businesses slowly but notably. Taking IBM as a vivid example of a successful company, it is reasonable to claim that it also is endangered by non–linear changes and needs to be ready for the uncertain future. To prepare the organization for potential unstable situations, it is important to consider five competitive forces of the company as well as global technological trends, in accordance with the specialization of a business entity. First, the influence of customer and supplier power, established rivals, new entrants or substitutes may notably impact the productivity and profitability of IBM (Porter, 2008). To neutralize the supplier's power, the IT company needs to put efforts into improvement of its production process because it mostly relies on staff. To attract consumers, IBM can focus on the idea of multiplatform consisting of several technological start– ups, where each one has a different function. As a result, with the versatile range a products, it would be easier for the company to pressure new entrants and spend more resources on research and development (R&D). ...
