2. Beginning
This angle is very poignant at the beginning of mud
boy. The main character Mina is looking up to the
adults, where the violence is taking place that is
the centred back story behind what happens
throughout the rest of the film. This conveys the
sheer vulnerability and danger Mina encounters
from her mothers violent boyfriend.
3. Climax
These two next shots I would categorise as the climax
of the film as they hold a great effect of what is
actually happening.
This Ariel shot in the top image shows the reality of
the situation rather than what Mina is choosing to
view in her imagination. This shot makes it clear to the
audience that the boy, Minas brother, has been
murdered by Eddie and lets the audience gain a sense
of shock and feeling towards the storyline.
This close up shot creates a huge emphasis on the fact
the boy is being imagined as when they start to go
inside, their hands disconnect. This works well as it
jumps back to reality and allows the audience to
further understand that Mina is in disbelief thinking
that her brother is still alive.
4. Ending
Nic Penrake achieved a very successful ending to ‘Mud boy’. His camera
angles and lighting techniques add extra emphasis onto the eeriness
created throughout the film.
The top left image looking up to the police officer holds great effect as it
captures her facial expression that confirms the plot that is hinted at
throughout. The white washed lighting also displays the paleness of her skin,
which adds extra emphasis on her body language, thus changing the mood
to a very serious feel rather ran a slightly positive one the little girl was trying
to perceive within the film.
