3. Grimmers – The Drug Dealer
Sam’s role in the play was to play the drug dealer
who tries to force his girlfriend (Mon) into taking
drugs. In the soap trailer he is easily aggravated
and we had to think carefully when choosing his
costume to portray his “shifty” character.
When characterising Sam into “Grimmers the
drug dealer” we had to carefully choose his
costume as this was extremely important.
We dressed him in a black coat with a big hood
and a baseball cap to hide his face. The colour
black connotes the image of a “bad person” as
black is a symbol of darkness and evil. Combined
with the hat this immediately created Grimmers’
“drug dealer” stereotype and this would help the
audience to understand Sam’s character
The main clue for the audience to guess Sam’s character
was the bag of pills which was our only prop used to film
his scene
4. Drug Prop: Safety
Shadia has made a quick
flowchart to make sue that the
precautions we took when
making the soap opera are
understood. We used ibuprofen
tablets in a sealy button bag to
make the drugs look legitimate
and the screen shot to the left is
how we used them in our trailer
5. Mon – The Drug Dealer’s
Girlfriend
Monica’s role in the group was to play the innocent naive
girlfriend of Grimmers the drug dealer. Grimmers tries to
force Mon into taking drugs and she walks away.
To get Monica into her character we just had her dressed in a
costume that portrayed a “normal teenage girl”
Her costume consisted of jeans, a vest top and a leather
jacket which is casual dress day-to-day dress for a girl of he
age. Her white vest top emphasises innocence as white
symbolises purity and innocence.
Monica’s minimal make-up and hair style allows her facial
expressions to stand out and shows her innocence towards
her not so innocent boyfriend
