precarity and homelessness
There are gaps in data, but
we know…

rainbow homelessness,
including:
- structural discrimination in
housing, education, welfare and
employment settings
- poverty and economic instability
- familial conflict and rejection
- minority stress, substance use
and mental health difficulties
- discrimination in the rental
market

5. - homeless rainbow people are
less likely to seek help or
support than non-rainbow
homeless people.
- barriers to support include:
- fear of rejection, violence, and
victimisation
- lack of rainbow-affirming
services and rainbow
competence
- unsafe environments in services

In the context of COVID-19, rainbow
people are more likely to face:

capacity within homelessness
and housing services in Tāmaki
Makaurau to provide safe, non-
discriminatory and accessible
services for rainbow clients.
Through this we hope to
improve the experiences of
rainbow people accessing
those services.

8. We’re talking to:
- Homelessness and housing
sector stakeholders
- Managers and front-line
workers in homelessness
support services
- Rainbow people with their
own lived experience of
homelessness

9. By the end of 2022, we
are aiming to develop
tools for homelessness
service providers to
help them make their
services safe, affirming,
and responsive for
takatāpui and rainbow
people.
