2. What Does a Roman soldier look like?
A Roman soldier is a protector
of Rome. Roman soldiers are all
males and very efficient and
deadly warriors.
3. Head Gear
A galea was a Roman soldier's helmet. Some gladiators,
myrmillones, also wore a bronze galea with a face mask
and a decoration, often a fish on its crest. The crests were
usually made of plumes or horse hair. Most of the time
only legendaries had crest on there helmet.
5. Shoulder Plates
The lorica segmentata is a type of personal armor used by soldiers of the
Roman Empire, consisting of metal strips fastened to internal leather straps.
The plates of lorica segmentata armour were soft iron inside and were mild
steel on the outside, making the plates hardened against damage without
becoming brittle.
7. Clothing and other accessories
A tunic
The baldric, a belt worn over one shoulder that is typically used to carry
a weapon like a sword or other implement such as a bugle or drum
The balteus, the standard belt worn by the Roman legionary. It was
used to tuck clothing into or to hold weapons.
Braccae, popular among Roman legionaries stationed in cooler
climates to the north of southern Italy
Caligae, heavy-soled military shoes or sandals which were worn by
Roman legionary soldiers and auxiliaries throughout the history of the
Roman Republic and Empire.
8. Clothing and other accessories
The focale, a scarf worn by the Roman legionary to protect the neck
from chafing caused by constant contact with the soldier's armor
The loculus, a satchel, carried by legionaries as a part of their sarcina,
like a backpack
The paludamentum, a cloak or cape fastened at one shoulder, worn by
military commanders and by their troops
