Middle-aged Jennifer Green is living a life of quiet despair following her husband’s confession of an affair – until she encounters a half-crazed hobo who appears to know more about her than she does herself.
Thanks to the tramp’s strange powers, Jennifer suddenly finds herself 25 years younger, with the figure and face of a goddess and every millionaire in New York trying to date her.
When Jennifer moves in with her own unsuspecting daughter she takes up ‘honey trapping’ to catch cheating husbands, even checking out her daughter’s dubious fiancé. But then her killer combination of stunning beauty and mature wisdom makes her a star on prime-time TV and she begins to discover the astonishing truth about the rich and handsome stranger who now sweeps her off her feet.
It Starts With A Kiss is a magical, funny, sexy story of glamour and romance, of lost youth and found love.

FORMER BBC produc-er
Steve Weddle has
penned his debut
romantic novel – by
thinking like a
WOMAN.
Writing from the first-person
viewpoint of Jennifer Green, a
middle-aged woman who sud-denly
becomes 21, Steve is hop-ing
It Starts With a Kiss gets a big
thumbs-up from his former day-time
TV rivals, Richard and Judy.
“Yes, they were competitors of
mine,” he laughs.
“But they were very much
respected. What they have done is
superb, but they were always the
competition.
“They took Birmingham-based
thriller writer R J Ellory to a new
level with their positive review of
A Quiet Belief In Angels.
“Another dream would be to
have my book published in the
US, not just the UK, because an
American movie is what this story
cries out for.
“But I’m thrilled just to have it
out in the UK. That in itself is an
end.”
With Fifty Shades of Grey hav-ing
redefined the adult novel,
Steve says he had to think care-fully
about how explicit he should
make his own book.
“I’d call it 25 Shades,” he
smiles.
“It is not explicit. I know people
who have quickly turned the
pages of Fifty Shades because
they want to read the story behind
the sex.
“So my book is about unre-solved
sexual tensions.
“Once Niles got it together in
Frasier it was never the same.
“There is something about
withholding, so It Starts With A
Kiss is racy but not explicit.
“In film terms, my book is a 15,
not an 18.
“There is one sex scene and that
has been given the OK by differ-ent
women.
“That was crucial for me.
“Everything else, I think, is sex-ier
because of it.”
For five years from 1992-96,
Steve was the man behind Pebble
Mill’s Good Morning With Anne
and Nick show.
But ITV’s This Morning had a
head start from 1988 and man-aged
to keep going longer – until
2001.
Hosts Richard and Judy then
switched to Channel 4, launching
The Richard & Judy Book Club on
their own show, Richard & Judy.
Although the duo’s switch to
digital channel Watch failed in
2009, they still have a major influ-ence
on book sales via their web-site
and links with WH Smith.
Now Steve hopes their ears will
perk up when they hear he’s been
writing as a woman.
So what’s the book about?
Just when her husband has
confessed to an affair, Jennifer
Green becomes younger and her
newfound killer combination of
beauty and mature wisdom
makes her a star on a primetime
TV show.
“The story is all about reinvent-ing
yourself,” says Steve.
“I think more and more people
are doing that in their 50s and I
think women are better at it than
men, whether it’s through rela-tionships,
jobs or voluntary work
– whereas lots of men end up
watching sport.”
Now 64 and divorced with no
children, former Sunday Mercury
reporter Steve lives in Sutton
Coldfield where he was born, and
where father Norman became a
Lib Dem councillor.
The book’s only clue as to the
author’s real sex comes in the very
small print of the publishers’ page
which begins: ‘The author S N
Weddle has asserted his right...’
But as well as having an older
stepsister and sister, and working
alongside many women in TV,
Steve has, in his words, ‘always
been surrounded by women’.
Inspired by R J Ellory for the
way he writes so convincingly
about life in the US from the heart
of England, Steve set off on his
travels to do some research.
“I’d been to New York before,
but I went back to visit a few loca-
