4. Introduction
Tana beles multi purpose hydro electric power plant is
located at the north west part of the country and 620 km far
from the capital city of Ethiopia.
.The power plant is constructed by salini costruttori S.P.A
and inaugurated on may 2010.
The out put Power of the plant is 460 mw. In addition to
this power plant has a significant mission for the country.
That is used for irrigation purpose for the down stream
area.

The power house is located in the south west bank of
lake tana and apart from a 12 km long tunnel, and it is
developed completely in under ground for a total
length of about 20 km including the tailrace tunnel.
The headrace tunnel conveys water from lake tana in
to under ground power house, it accommodates four
francis turbine-generating units.

• It is the inlet structure of the plant which provides water to

8. MIV
It is used for controlling the flow of water to the turbine by
fully close or full open state.
Hydronic Servomotors are hydraulic piston machines,
which operate with the use of oil pressure.

9. Turbine
Turbine is a prime movers of a water power development,
which convert water energy (hydropower) in to mechanical
energy.
The turbine servomotor is used to operate the wicket gates
by the oil pressure exerted and controlled by the electronic
governors. It Consists of four vertical shaft Francis turbine
These are runner blade,spiral casing and wicket gate.

10. Hydraulic Governor
A governor is a combination of devices and
mechanisms, which detect speed deviation and
convert it in to change in servomotor position.
Synchronous Generators:-which converts
mechanical power to AC electric power. it has non
uniform air gap and also silent pole construction.

In Tan abeles power plant there are four Generator (4*115MW)
each genrater is prddouce 115 MW .

h=Head=315m
P=Generated Power
P=1000kg/m3*9.81m/s2*315m*40 m3/s

Project Title:- Automatic Water Level Indicator And Filtering
On The Fire Tank In TBMPP
Introduction
In Tana Beles hydro power plant the firefighting system is
using pressurized water from high level to low levl.
In TBEPP fire tank is filling manaualy and also when the
tank water is empty or not chekd ,it is not having snseor

19. Statement of the Problem
Manual process for water pumping and motor control that
used in Beles project.And also pumping motor is not
filtering of water.
There will be loss of energy sources for pumping water as
well as loss of natural resources due to overflowing of
water from tank.
Due to this Manual controlling process is difficult and time
consuming,so the to contributs of automatic water levl
control system.

20. Objective
• General Objective
To Simulate automatic water pumping, filtering and
controller for fire tank in tana .
Specific Objective:-
To know how water flow sensors interface with PLC.
To hear the buzzer sound when the filter is dirty and stop
filtering.
To simulate the circuit design in PLC software.

23. Conclustion and Recomendation
Conclusions
Generally, this internship program is a fruitful time for us
because we have got different experiences such as practical
practical knowledge about the working principle of
electromechanical and hydraulic machines
The project plays a vital role to save the energy, time and
cost for TBMPP worker by making automatic instead of
manuals and also maximum accuracy on system reliabilit

24. Recommendation
We want to give recommendations for the company and to our
university for advanced involvement of internship program for
students.
Recommendation for TBMPP
The company should be ready for internship students by preparing
project tasks and workshop classes to give better experiences.
Recommendation for our university
The university industry linkage should work inbettercoordination
with the industries by creating project proposals in how the students
shall be treated in industries to achieve experiences 24
