Question 6 David's Evaluation
1. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
Canon 700D DSLR the first piece of equipment I came across was the
camera we used to record our footage for ‘Happily Never After’. I had very
little experience with using cameras of any type before researching what
cameras would be ideal for the kind of shooting and locations we’d be in; as a
result of this the 700D DSLR was deemed the best for us. After a few
moments of playing with the camera, tripod, and any other accessory I
managed to get to grips with how to use the camera and it became a very
user-friendly piece of equipment. Furthermore I learned how to use the
different modes and functions of the camera and found the variety in settings
to be extremely useful. The only thing that worried me to any extent with the
camera is that a few of our shots were rather shaky, however I believe that
can be attributed to the tri-pod & wind. The Marantz recorder was somewhat
difficult to use however with a boom pole and microphone the audio that is
recorded is crisp and fine. The lighting in our two-minute film opening was a
concern to us as we had to film certain parts in the dark, and because of this
we took out a lighting kit that included three lighting panels as well as tri-pods
for each one. They solved the problems we had and worked extremely well.
Before starting AS Media Studies, I had never used Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
or anything similar to it for that matter, so I was thrown in the deep end when
confronted with using it. However with plenty of practice and a lot of messing
up I think I can use the software quite well and have the ability to create
something very pleasing with it in just a short space of time. The biggest worry
for me however was using Adobe After Effects CS6 as I was attributed with
creating the titles for our two minute film opening; similarly to Premiere after
quite a considerable amount of time I managed to get the hang of this
program and I rather enjoy using it as with a variety of fonts, effects, and
displays it’s really possible to do a wide variety of things with After Effects.
When it came to using online aspects of the blogging process I found that
Tumblr is a very flexible and easy website to use. I chose Tumblr over other
blogging websites such as Blogspot because the user face of Tumblr looked
more appealing and had a wide range of things to edit and create through the
HTML editor. A website that deserves a special mention is IMDB; without
IMDB a lot of my research wouldn’t have been possible as the information
isn’t easy to obtain, but this websites stores all kind of information and data on
there as well as plot summary and an array of reviews that make it simple to
judge the movies and find the right one to research.
In order to create different posts on my blog I needed several different
creative media websites and I found these through searching the web and
taking inspiration from resource sheets that contained websites that may aid
us. The most user friendly of the websites I found is PowToon and Prezi.
Prezi is a really intricate and exciting way of making a power point
2. presentation much more diverse. It allows you to be free with creativity
making video, images and text all combine together with different paths of
looking at them.
Music was very important to use and when creating our prelim we took a
piece of music from YouTube and put it onto the footage. During the creation
of ‘Happily Never After’ however we had a piece of music specifically created
for us that was tailored to suit the tone, mood, and atmosphere of the movie.
