Leadership Styles-Leadership Training From Mindtools
Leaders' styles encompass how they relate to others within and outside the organization, how they
view themselves and their position, and – to a very large extent – whether or not they are successful
as leaders (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Psychologist Kurt Lewin developed his framework in the
1930s, and it provided the foundation for leadership ("Leadership Styles – Leadership Training
From MindTools.com," n.d.). He argued that there are three major styles of leadership: Autocratic
leaders, Democratic leaders, and Laissez–faire, these particular leadership styles can explore the
advantages and disadvantages of you used within a business or health organization ("Leadership
Styles – Leadership Training From MindTools.com," n.d.). Here are a few examples from the

The transactional leadership style and transformational leadership tools can help within or outside of
the organization. Transactional leadership helps a leader to transactions between leader and
followers, and a transformational leader thinks about changing the world, even if only on a small
scale (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Although there is no guarantee that either a transactional or
transformational leader will be an effective it will be left upon the individual themselves. A
transformational leader thinks about changing the world, even if only on a small scale (Community
Tool Box, n.d.). However, when breaking down the two different tools of leadership Dr. Martian
Luther King Jr. was a perfect example of a transformational leader. Dr. King show an overwhelming
in depth of true leadership when he delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech this was a man who
show great strength in the midst of his fears, create unity, and convincing people that a vision is
reachable while setting the tone that would echo to all citizens of all races who believed that racism

Faith Integration Paper
BU 490
Lead By Example– Faith Integration Paper My father and uncles' instilled a statement in my head
from a young age that I will never forget. This statement is closely related to the Law of Legacy and
very relevant to being a leader in the modern business world. The statement only consists of a few
words, but these words are very powerful and if this statement is followed, your reputation as a
leader will be respected and hopefully emulated. The statement is, "Lead by example, do what is
right, be the best you can be, and treat others the way you would like to be treated." I believe this
statement is related to the law of legacy because it is action oriented. John Maxwell states in his
description of the law of legacy that leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these phases incorporated Jesus as leading by example and with each new phase, a higher
level of commitment is necessary. The goal of this demonstration is that through your example, they
will learn and use your tools to translate into being successful leaders themselves.
A biblical example of the law of legacy comes from Moses in the book of Numbers. The scripture
comes from Numbers 27:18–23. In this scripture, Moses strategically taught Joshua through
apprenticeship training and passed along his legacy, which no one questioned upon the passing of
the torch. Joshua eventually became known as a leader who would complete the task of leading the
people into the Promised Land. This, according to Maxwell's description of the Law of Legacy is the
ultimate goal, and exactly what Moses achieved. The subsequent examples are not only relevant to
Moses teaching Joshua in the biblical times, but also for a modern leader preparing his "sheep" for
taking over the business.
Moses empowered Joshua and gave him authority. To be a successful leader in the modern business
world, you have to decide when it is the appropriate time for your successor to receive a bite of the
pie. If you wait to long and they are thrown straight into the fire, success may not be achieved and
your legacy and or reputation may be damaged. If you share the load with your successor, they can
better understand the qualities and actions needed to be successful.

A leader that knows his Priorities and has Concentration. "Don't major in minors" The great mystery
isn't that people do things badly but that they occasionally do a few things well. Strength is always
specific! Growth equals change. If you want to get better, you have to keep changing and improving.
That means stepping out into new areas. **Work on yourself, on your priorities, in your strengths,
and with your companions.
Generosity: "No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what
he gave." Giving is the highest level of living. It's hard for a person to be generous when he is not
satisfied with what he has. Generosity rises out of contentment, and that doesn't come with acquiring
more. If you're not content with little, you won't be content with a lot. And if you're not generous
with little, you won't suddenly change if you become wealthy. The measure of a leader is not the
number of people who serve him, but the number of people he serves. Generosity requires putting
others first. The only way to really win with money is to hold it loosely–and be generous with it to
accomplish things of value. "Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. If it gets on top and
you get under it, you will become its slave." "You have not lived today until you have done
something for someone who can never repay you." "All that is not given is lost."

Defining An Effective Leader
My view on leaders is that leaders are those who accept additional responsibility above normal for
decisions making and guiding others. Leaders will usually help direct others to become successful.
Individuals usually choose their leader, whether it's a good decision or not, each person chooses who
they follow. They will judge by behavior, attitude and actions. Qualities of a positive leader are
shown in their actions and words. Most often, positive leaders are always striving for the best and
won't settle for less out of others that may be on their team. Leaders normally don't direct with
directives, they direct by showing examples. Instead of telling their peers or team exactly what to
do, leaders will show or lead their directives by examples. Leaders normally stay in close contact
with their assigned teams, if leading a team. Leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without goals and expectations our actions are meaningless. Everyone can get caught up in planning
or making goals, but if we as part of the team, or the leaders of the team, don't strive to reach goals
we set, leadership as well as goals, can all be meaningless. The objective to being a leader is making
sure you put all energy and effort into being successful, not only for personal success, but also
assisting your team you're leading to be the best they can be and achieve their individual goals, as
well as team objectives. Having goals set as a leader, can be inspiring, to make you act and ensure
you and your team are progressing in a positive manner, to reach all goals and expectations set for
yourself and team. To achieve goals and as a leader to make sure your team goals are met, you
should always delegate and coordinate individual responsibilities to make sure when all efforts are
combined, everyone achieves success. When you have the right leadership, who is positive and
inspiring, your team will always be

Personal Philosophy Of Leadership
Leaders strive for the best in their organization and work hard to become successful. My leadership
philosophy may be different from others, however, it may be effective as others. Leadership can be
learned and practiced. I consider if you practice with ethics in mind then there will be no issues with
your followers or organization. Leaders that practice unethically are often viewed in a negative
perspective and often ruin their careers. Great leaders are hard workers and assist in improving the
organization. Some are natural leaders, however, it has been stated leaders are made.

my behalf, this is accurate. Heiss (2015) view of INTJ, "To complicate matters, INTJs are usually
extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to
misread and misunderstand." I see myself as a private person and do not often have small talks and
it is often mistaken that I am egotistic. I don't like to share my personal life with random individuals.
Intuition focuses on the future and the possibilities. I see myself constantly thinking of the
possibilities of what is possible when I receive my degree, in hopes of becoming successful.
Thinking involves logic and analyzing, and I often have make sure I obtain the information before I
make a decision. I am often told that I overanalyze a simple question or decision. I'd like to think,
than use my feelings to make a decision. As for judging, I'd like to have plans in place and have
structure. This personality assessment has provided me a perspective of my leadership styles with

Notes On Leadership And Management
Leadership versus Management
1. Define Management.
Management is the organizational process that includes strategic planning, setting; objectives,
managing resources, deploying the human and financial assets needed to achieve objectives, and
measuring results. Management also includes recording and storing facts and information for later
use or for others within the organization.
Management is the process of reaching organizational goals by working with and through people
and other organizational resources.
There are three main characteristics that management focus on: It is a process or series of continuing
and related activities, involving and concentrating on reaching organizational goals, and reaching
the goals by working with and through people and other organizational resources.
2. Define Leadership. Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to influence
and guide followers or other members of an organization. Leadership involves making sound (and
sometimes difficult) decisions, creating and articulating a clear vision, establishing achievable goals
and providing followers with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve these goals. Leadership
is the ability of a company 's management to make sound decisions and inspire others to perform
well. Effective leaders are able to set and achieve challenging goals, to take swift and decisive
action even in difficult situations, to outperform their competition, to take calculated risks and to

The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership
The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership was written by John C. Maxwell, who is an author, speaker,
and a pastor. I found his take on leadership to be interesting, as he believed that leadership is
leadership, no matter what context. The laws are similar no matter what realm they will be applied
in. He successfully demonstrated how his laws apply in leadership in all forms, whether it is in
church or in politics, in history or in sports.
When he first began, he was told that he was a pastor and that he had no business experience; how
could he possibly guide people in business? He has taken his leadership experiences from his church
life and directly correlated them to many various fields. The book has many illustrations drawing
parallels with sports and American history as well as corporate experts' stories.
Maxwell doesn't claim that there are only 21 principles of leading. His intention through this book is
to show what the laws of leadership are. These laws hold true, no matter which field you intend to
lead in.
As there are 21 different laws, some related closely to the others and some not, the summary will be
going through each of the laws briefly.
LAW #1: Law of the Lid
The lid is a person's leadership ability. This leadership ability determines how effective that person
can be. The lower or higher someone's leadership ability is, their effectiveness is respectively lower
or higher.
The idea of the law is that for someone who measures a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 on a

Leadership Class Analysis
Over the course of this class I have learned about the kind of leader I am as well as the kind of
leader I prefer when being the follower in a situation. Whether or not it is common I am not sure,
however I react to a different leadership style than the one I implement myself. Above I have created
my own leadership model that I feel covers all of the aspects it takes to being a successful leader.
There are three elements to being a productive leader in any given situation and it starts with you as
a person. In order to be a leader I feel that you must first understand who you are as a person, you
need to know what drives you to succeed, and what motivates you. As the leader of an organization,
business, or large group you have to be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with yourself and moving through the phases until reaching your final outcome. One of
the lectures from week two, Cunningham Skills, is a great way to begin understand yourself as a
leader. If you as a leader can embrace and understand how to implement the six skills Cunningham
believes are necessary to be a successful leader than you have the first element of my leadership
model taken care of. My absolute favorite skill Cunningham discusses is the idea of managing
symbols (Strong, 2016, Cunningham Skills), I believe the reason it sticks out so much to me is
because becoming a teacher is something I have wanted for a while now and you have to know and
understand how to conduct yourself in a manner that represents who you are as well as who your
school is. It is so important in today's society to remember how much access others have to your
personal life, whether your social media is private or not. Therefore, creating an image for yourself
is so essential and should begin long before your become a leader of a large organization or

Examples Of An Interview With Rick Weintraub
I chose to interview Richard Weintraub for my leader interview. Rick has held many positions of
leadership in his life including, President of Weintraub and Associates, President of the Texas
Rangers Season Ticket Advisory Board, Serving in the United States Air Force, Citizens
Environment Committee Member, and serving as Precinct Chairman & Executive Committee
Member. Whilst interviewing Rick I gained numerous nuggets of wisdom concerning leadership. He
is someone who is looked up to in his field and has dealt with many issues concerning leadership.
Rick is a great example of what a servant leader is and throughout his many years in leadership had
much insight to share with me. In many of his leadership roles there was no monetary gains to be
had. While he was serving as the president of the season ticket advisory board, he was influential in
many changes and lead with integrity. When I asked him about servant leadership he said that
leading with a servant's attitude is the most effective way that a leader can lead. He said that a
commitment to servant leadership pays off in the long run even when immediate impact can not be
seen. When asked if he thought leadership developed with experience, Rick had this to say, "Yes,
because the person realizes that he or she has the ability to influence behavior, which is really what
leadership is." He also said that when you mature in leadership you begin to realize how your
behavior affects others and how you can get them to do what

Personal Statement On The Importance Of Self Awareness
Introduction
The purpose of this learning journal is to demonstrate the development of my learning and
understanding of the importance of self–awareness in relation to leadership. In order to pursue my
personal growth and career development I have kept a record of collection of ideas throughout the
entire class in order to improve my leadership quality to achieve my desired goals by maximizing
my strength and minimizing the weaknesses. Hence, in this journal I have chosen the four areas of
leadership which influence my interpersonal relationship as a leader.
Personal Leadership
Personal leadership is regarded as important quality to a leader where a leader himself is motivated
to do things. In pursuance of achieving such kind of leadership quality one should see himself as a
role model. This can be achieved by setting high standards of responsibility. In other words it is the
responsibility for all aspects of your life and leading it in the direction that suits best for you (Career
et al., 2015). In my view, to develop your personal leadership skills, you should have a positive
attitude in making your decisions that best suits you and making your own choices for positive
outcomes. As stated by the meaning for personal leadership, making decisions at your best interest
and taking full responsibility for the decisions you made helps you develop your ability to be an
effective leader. Hence, adopting such kind of personal leadership will help me improve my decision
making

Linda A. Hill: How To Be An Ethical Leader
Who comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Do you think of your president, your
teammate, your classmate, your coach or even your teacher? How would you define their
leadership? Everyone has their own definition of what a leader is or should be. There are many
different leadership styles that one may need to share, or prefer to use, depending on the situation or
what the leadership is used for, such as, a captain of a team is going to have different styles of
leadership compared to a president of a country. To be a leader, one must guide and inspire with the
use of words, but most importantly guide with actions. It is important as leader to be mindful of how
actions set an example to those that they lead. If a leader says one thing, ... Show more content on

Moral leaders put others first, and themselves last. Leaders who understand the moral obligation
they have to their followers, who want to bring out the best in them are moral leaders. Moral
leadership is the only way that leadership can exist. If leadership is not moral, it is no longer true
leadership. Moral itself is the guideline of which action is good and/or bad and which makes it
adequate or not. Throughout the articles "How to be an Ethical Leader" written by Paula Feranades
and "The most overlooked leadership skill? Having a moral compass" by Linda A. Hill and lastly
the chapter on "The new corporate leadership" by Graeme Salaman, numerous discussions emerge
from the writings, for example, what goes along in making a leader successful and how ethics and
morals may be the success to true leadership. In discussion of leadership, one controversial issue
that has arisen, has been whether if leaders have a moral obligation. From one viewpoint, some
argue that everyone has a diverse standard of morals, therefore do not have an obligation. Then
again, others contend that it is a leader's job to do what is right without a hesitation. My own view is
that leaders do have a moral obligation to be a successful

The Three Leadership Competencies Of An Army Leader
You can ask ten different Soldiers what an Army leader is, or what they believe a good Army leader
is. It will not matter the rank, time in service or the maturity level of that Soldier because more than
likely you will get ten different answers. Everyone has their own opinions on what an Army leader
is, or what they believe a good Army leader is. By definition leadership in the Army is the process of
influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and
improve the organization (ADRP 6–22, 2012). There are three leadership competencies that make an
Army leader; leads, develops and achieves. Leadership comes in all types of styles. No two Army
leaders will have the same style. There is a saying that goes around our ranks today, "Your
leadership traits strongly reflect your past leadership." Meaning that you will develop traits and
habits that you have seen in your past leadership. Whether they are good or bad, you will not notice
them yourself until you think about what you are doing or saying. It takes time to develop as a
leader, and you will know when you find your style that works for you and you're Soldiers. Leading
subordinates to success starts with building trust with your subordinates. It is important to gain trust
throughout the ranks because without trust it is hard to influence Soldiers and complete the overall
mission. You do not just receive trust automatically because you are a leader, you have to earn

The Qualities And Traits Of Leaders Essay
2 The qualities and traits of leaders
A number of leadership traits almost come directly from within. These are the qualities that might be
harder to train, but which make leading other people smoother.
Committed
A good leader has to show commitment. Fulfilling your vision won't happen overnight and you need
to be able to convince everyone else that you won't disappear when things get tough. If you make a
promise, you need to keep it. You can't just preach about achieving A, B and C, but you need to
show that you are actually going to do it.
Commitment matters for two reasons. First, when you show commitment you help build trust. The
team and anyone involved with the project will be able to trust your word. Trust will keep work
morale up and help you achieve objectives faster since people don't need to second–guess what your
objectives are. But furthermore, the second aspect of commitment is about setting an example. As
mentioned throughout the article, leadership is about setting an example and if you show
commitment to your word, your subordinates will be inspired to stick to their promises. Using your
own example of hard work, you will ensure the people around you feel motivated to do the same
thing.
Passionate
Passion should be at the heart of everything you do. It doesn't matter whether you are a leader of a
multibillion company or a lumberjack, without passion, you won't achieve success. You can
understand its importance when you view it as the fuel to your truck.

The Four Values Of Leadership
"People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads and the boss drives"–
Theodore Roosevelt. What does it mean to be a leader? What defines a good leader? History has
taught us many things about leadership. Good Leadership can be the difference between winning a
war and losing a war. Even in everyday life, a good leader is capable of achieving much greater
things than a normal person. But leadership is a powerful tool that can be used both for the good of
mankind and its downfall. Leadership is the ability of an individual or and organisation, to influence
other individuals and its team to achieve a desired outcome. Influence is a very under–rated aspect
of leadership. No individual would follow a person who does not have ... Show more content on

The ability to self–reflect is as crucial as any. A leader should always evaluate himself and his values
time to time. This make him more aware of his strengths and weaknesses and allows him to adapt to
any scenario. Being able to reflect enable leader to remember past experiences and gain quality
insights into themselves. This will aid the decision–making process a leader goes through. The next
value that Harry Jensen Kramer Jr talk about is the need for balance. A leader may have his own set
of values and opinions of a situation. But it should not obstruct his ability to see the same situation
from another point of view. A good leader accepts that there are always different perspective to
consider in a given situation. Many leaders tend to be headstrong in their mind set that only their
opinion matters. Anyone who does not believe in his opinion is just challenging his authority. This is
a clear case of an ego issue. The open–mindedness opens room for god communication between the
leader and his followers. This develops trust and respect within an organisation. But it is also
necessary to filter out the good opinions from the bad ones. As a leader, you must decide which is
important for the organisation and not take all suggestion without due thought just to appease the
teams. Doing that makes you the follower and it you will always lose credibility as a

Why Was Lebron Important

him how to become like him wonder, what steps and plans should they make in order to become

In order to have a starting point, everyone would need to start from somewhere. Therefore in order
to become a leader, a leader needs to start off by example. That means that the person who wants to

by example. Because actions speak louder than words, but still a leader needs to know how to speak.

Jonathan Vs Fletch Research Paper
"Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders" (Leadership vs. Management: What's the
Difference?). Jonathan was a prime example of this quality. He never forced his fellow seagulls to
learn; Jonathan let them come to him. He did this so that the other gulls would be willing to accept
his teachings on their own. Fletch was the first to come to Jonathan Livingston, and because of Jon's
teachings, was able to take over the new flock that Jon started. Traits such as these are what make
you a good leader. I believe that there are many major qualities that can make a leader great. These
two that I will explain are the same traits that reside within Jonathan.
A leader must be honest. Without honesty, there is no trust. Without trust, no one will believe your

example. If a leader shows that they are committed to their work, then their followers will do the
same. CNN.com says that a good leader must, "Live, beathe, eat and sleep your mission" (23 Traits

Leadership Key Elements Paper
Leadership Key Elements Leadership is something that we are all born with because we are all born.
Therefore, who is a leader and who is not depends on who really wants to be a leader and who does
not. Leadership is a skill and so it can be learned. As anything that is learned it demands practice
and practice to be the best. It would not be something that will happen in a matter of a day. There are
multiple elements that make a leader. Collaboration is a key element for successful teamwork.
Therefore, a leader must always be in the look for ways to foster collaboration. Creating trust within
the team, support face–to–face collaboration, transfer responsibilities when making decisions, and
ultimately teach other how to be leaders. All of this is not done if it is not done from the bottom of
your own heart. Credibility–Creating trust within the team As stated by Kouzes and Posner (2012),
"If you're a manager in an organization, to your direct reports you are the most important leader in
your organization. You are more likely than any other leader to influence their desire to stay or
leave, the trajectory of their careers, their ethical behavior, their ability to perform at their best, their
drive to wow customers, their satisfaction with their jobs, and their motivation to share the
organization's vision and values" (p. 332). Therefore, the first one to trust will be the leader. Leaders

Transformation from "I" to "We" This transformation occurs in Phase II of the leadership
development. This is when we realize that leadership is not about giving subordinates directions and
orders to follow. It is about empowering people to grow to their fullest potentials.
Part II: Discover Your Authentic Leadership
Knowing your Authentic Self
The book teaches the important of being self–aware in order to choose the right role for you, be
comfortable in your own skin, act consistently in different situations, gain trust of others, build
strong relationships, and to know your strengths and weaknesses. Without self–awareness, we would
be easily thrown off our True North path. The book provides a method for finding your true self
called "Peeling Back the Onion." The process begins with looking at your outer layers such as body
language, attire, appearance and leadership style and then goes deeper to strengths, weaknesses,

others your words will have meaning and people will accept your ideas, doesn't mean they may
agree with them but they can at least respect them. 2. Are you more effective in a group or a one on
one basis?  In my opinion the key to being an effective leader is knowing how to be effective in
both, whether you are working in a group or if you are working one on one. It takes different
strategies to work in either situation. My personal strength is working one on one; I am passionate
about seeing others grow beyond what they think they are cable of doing. There should be no greater
joy then seeing someone you have mentored or an employee you have coached move up in their
career, that is the key to being a good leader help others grow. 3. How would you go about getting
cohesion among a team who disagree?  In my opinion the first key to cohesion is a common goal
for the team to be focused on, if the team is focused on accomplishing the same goal and they can
see it in front them cohesion will begin to happen. The other key weather a small or large team is
making sure every person knows they

The Book 360 Leader By John C. Maxwell
The book 360 leader is written by the author John C. Maxwell. The book was dedicated to Dan
Reiland who was a friend, student, teacher and partner to the author John C. Maxwell. There are six
sections in this book written by John C. Maxwell. The six sections in this book talk about principles
to lead up down and across, challenges, myths of leading from the middle of an organization and the
value of 360 degree leaders. Maxwell's book 360 leader provides a lot of facts on leading from the
middle to the top of an organization reminding leaders that it's all about influence when it comes to
leadership.

if only every leader could understand that's what 360 degree leader does and is, they would stop
complaining about where they are and be content with the impact they have because of who they
are. Maxwell says, "The true measure of leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less"
(Maxwell 4)
In section 2, Maxwell discusses the challenges 360– degree leaders face. The first challenge a 360
degree leader faces is the tension challenge or the pressure of being caught in the middle. The way
the tension impacts a leader Maxwell says, is affected by five factors. The first being how much
authority and responsibility we are given as a leader. Secondly how well we balance not stepping
over our boundaries, also what is the leadership DNA of the organization and leader. This is how
well you know your job and how well you do it. Lastly is appreciation, can you live without the
credit. Maxwell says, "The key to succeeding is to learn to deal with the tension of whatever
position you are in, overcome its obstacles, and make the most of its advantages and opportunities.
(Maxwell 33) Challenge number two Maxwell discusses is the frustration challenge, or following an
ineffective leader. We often think it is our job to fix insufficient leaders in order to make them
successful. Maxwell helps the reader realize that it is better to lead from the middle, than to be

What Makes A Good Leader?
A good quote is a powerful motivational tool which can help you grow in all areas of your life.
When the quote is by established CEOs and entrepreneurs, who've done it all and who are talking
from experience, you can learn a great deal about things such as leadership.
Below are 95 quotes about the key areas of leadership: on becoming a leader, having passion and
vision, creating the right strategy, getting past the fear of failure, empowering others, and succeeding
in leadership.
1 Becoming a leader
Let's first examine the qualities that make a good leader and the road you must be willing to take if
you want to become a respectable leader.
Bennis' points out the essence of leadership which is about elevating yourself to the next level.
Becoming a leader doesn't mean you try to be something else – there is no magic book that you can
read and copy the actions in order to be a leader. Becoming a leader is about understanding your
own strengths and weaknesses, and improving your character to becoming the true representation of
yourself – a leader.
Leadership is not a skill you either have or you don't. It requires both experience and continuous
development. In order to become a leader, you need to study your field, learn about yourself and
discover the different aspects of leadership.
The above quote is an interesting take on how to be a leader. It essentially emphasises that
leadership is not just a set of practices you must do, but rather a show of your personality and

My Strengths And Weaknesses Of Leadership
There are many forms and styles of leadership. There are leaders in schools, churches, homes, and
leaders in communities. There are even sometimes leaders within a friend group. Leaders are unique
because of the qualities they possess. The course Black Women Developing Public Leadership Skill
is a great course to help prepare any young black woman for a bright future as a leader. As a result
of the course I have been able to view leadership in different ways than I have before. I have learned
that every leader has their own strengths and weaknesses. Often times leaders receive praise and are
looked up to for everything that they are good at doing. People usually forget or ignore weaknesses
in a leader until the leader lets its audience down.
I have learned my strengths and my weaknesses as a leader. I have learned that some of my
strengths during public speaking are being confident, relaxed, and being able to articulate my points
very well. I learned that my weakness was not including as much detail as I could have. During the
rest of this course and in the future I plan to make a conscious effort to make sure that I not only
provide details, but that I make sure that I provide enough details for other people to understand all
that I am saying or doing when I am being a leader. Now that I am fully aware of my strengths and
weaknesses I can practice them and grow throughout the duration of the course

Characteristics Of Leadership In The 21st Century
Chapter 4– Leadership in the 21st Century
Leadership is very important to most of us because we either like being guided by someone (which
means being under someone else's leadership) or we are the type who like to take matters into our
own hands. This is technically how we are today (and have always been), where we are either
followers or leaders. Now, each one of these characteristics has their pros and cons, which means
that it is alright to be a follower but up to a certain point. On the other hand, being a leader is a good
thing too, but there are several steps that need to be followed if you want to be qualified as such.
We will not spend too much time on why it is sometimes good to be a follower because it is not the
subject of this chapter, but there are some important points that need to be clarified here before we
carry on. Let's start by defining leadership. What is leadership? Leadership concerns all the
characteristics or activities of a leader that are meant at guiding, and inspiring others. So, this means
that a leader would have to show the following characteristics:
– He/she will have to be charismatic.
– He/she will have to be able to take his/her own initiatives.
– He/she will have to be confident about every important decision he/she makes.
– His/her actions have to serve as examples and inspire others.
– Last, but not least, a leader should always leave a legacy behind him/her.
With that said, let's now cover the journey to leadership, in other words;

The Values-Based Leadership
Leadership is an act of leading a group of people to achieve a common goal. There are many styles
of leadership like autocratic, democratic, laissez–faire, narcissistic and toxic leadership. Today, I'm
going to discuss about the value based leadership. This is an effective approach to lead your
subordinates by understanding organization and your personal values.
Values–based is a very indefinable term and theory, apparently commonly understood but perhaps
not adequately or correctly. Value based leadership is connecting employees values with the
organization goals. Leaders must communicate with to manage short and long term results. Leaders
should talk about trade–offs, priorities, values and connections. Value based leadership is aligning
personnel and organization values. It means employees and managers must behave in such a way
which is important for the productivity, profitability, sustainability and integrity of the business. This
approach of leadership is to identify your own beliefs, education, priorities and values which effects
your way how you lead others, make decisions and handle conflicts.
Value based leadership has following important characteristics:
Vision:
The values–based leadership is focused on a motivating vision. The leader must be able to build a
vision that the followers are capable to adopt as their own vision. The leader's vision should become
vision of followers because it is constructed on their needs and hopes.
Integrity:

Being A Leader Takes Great Ability. Over Many Years’ People
Being a leader takes great ability. Over many years' people have written many books and taught
many ways for people to become an effective leader. One of the main things that people fail to
understand that the major part of being a leader is just being yourself. You can be taught by someone
techniques and ways to problem solve and how to think strategically but leadership is more than
that. Being yourself flaws and all helps make you human and shows your ability that you are not
perfect and makes mistakes just like everyone else. These techniques will make you gain those
necessary followers who do not look for someone that is perfect but look for someone that is
inspiring. Many times the necessary skills individuals need to become a leader ... Show more

Being Yourself Many people get into business and feel that need to separate their lives or
compartmentalize their life from who they are at work against who they are when you are not
working. One of the biggest pieces of advice leaders and aspiring leaders should take is being
themselves. Having confidence that you are good enough just being yourself will help make you a
leader and someone that people would want to follow because they see you as being human and like
themselves. This concept is hard to follow by many executives because most of the knowledge and
training out their point them to certain traits and skills needed to have to be an effective leader.
According to the authors Robert Goffee and Gareth Jones in "one year there where more than 2,000
books published on leadership, some even reprints of Moses and Shakespeare repackaged as
leadership gurus" (Goffee, R., & Jones, G, 2000). With such vast amount of information available it
is surprising that many of these do not give the basic advice to just be yourself. Weakness and
Leadership One of the main techniques of being yourself is showing your weakness. No matter who
you are from a crossing guard to a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, everyone has a weakness. If
someone is considered to be perfect people might assume them to not need followers. It will
illustrate to people that they could handle everything for themselves (Goffee, R.,

What Makes a Leader? Essay
To me, leadership is more than a title. It is more than just being in charge. Leadership is honestly,
learning, listening, and most importantly application. Leadership means going the extra mile or two,
doing the right thing no matter who's looking, staying encouraged and encouraging other even when
times are hard and you have every reason to quit. Leadership doesn't mean you're rich, well known,
liked, or respected but it does mean you are a passionate, caring, and authentic. Leadership means
you care about something so much you are willing to risk everything you have for this belief or idea.

order to accomplish your goal change is often necessary. A bold attitude is a definite must. Leaders
will always come against someone or something that opposes what they believe, boldness will give
them the strength to keep going even when the people they lead have start to disappear or they have
grown weak. At the first that you are ready to give up they will abandon ship as the leader it must be
a part of your character to be bold and keep going no matter how hard things may seem. This
characteristics tie in with the earlier trait of inspiration. When other see how bold you are they will

Leadership : Developing Your Leadership
Developing Your Leadership
Cadet Workman

Leaders come in many different forms, whether it is the CEO of a corporation or a single mother
trying to raise her three children. It does not take a big fancy office or a job title for you to be a
leader, and leaders can start cultivating their leadership potential immediately, in whatever area of
influence they have. There are multiple theories as to what makes a leader, as well as numerous
ways to hone your leading potential and get a head start on developing those leadership capabilities.
Leadership is a concept that scholars have been attempting to define for ages, and although hundreds
of different definitions of leadership have arose, there are a number of concepts that have been
adapted as accurately reflecting what it is to be a leader. According to Peter G. Northouse PhD, a
Professor Emeritus of Communication in the School of Communication at Western Michigan
University, there are six overarching theories of leadership:
1) Leadership is a trait
2) Leadership is an ability
3) Leadership is a skill
4) Leadership is a behavior
5) Leadership is a relationship
6) Leadership is an influence process
According to his book Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice, Northouse states that,

Title: ?10 Things Top Leaders Do Each Day?
If you?re a business leader, then you are carrying the success of your business and all of those who
work for your business on your shoulders. You are responsible for carrying your business and your
team down the road of success. In order to become the best business leader that you can be, you
must develop the methods and habits of other successful business leaders. Here are the 10 things top
leaders do each day.
Share their vision
As the figureheads of their business, leaders must have a vision that is the root of their business?s
mission and goals and is the main force that drives the business forward. The vision is essentially a
dream that the business leader has that the business acts to make it a reality. The people running the
business, or the team of workers under the business leader?s leadership, are the ones who are going
to help turn that vision, or dream, into a reality, so it is imperative to the success of that vision?and
therefore, the business?for the business? leader to share that vision with his workers.
Leaders should do this by daily providing the members of their team with goals. These goals must
be either short or long term, worth their time, and within their capabilities while also challenging
them to sharpen and improve their capabilities so they can be the best they can be. While the

Qualities of Sports Leaders
Qualities of sports leaders
The four different qualities I will be talking about are decision making, evaluation, communication
and also talking about managing a group. After I explained theses I will then relate them to an
effective sports leader.
An effective sports leader needs to make decisions in long term and short term parts. They need to
consider what to do and why. Making good decisions will come through good experience of having
to make big decisions either within a game or outside. Decision making means a sports leader makes
a choice of what to do to help his own team out.
A good sports leader will take the time to evaluate their own performance or other participants.

Effective management in your participants will result in getting the best out of them.
My sports leader I have suggested is Steven Gerrard. He has all these qualities and is a very
successful leader by being captain of Liverpool Football Club and also England. Being this well
known he must have a very good attitude and is looked upon as a role model for many people. His
decision making is brilliant as he makes decisions to make key passes within games that lead his
team to victory. He has years of experience to know what decisions are needed to be made. As he is
captain for Liverpool he needs to evaluate each players performance and give them feedback either
when he can during a game or at the end of games. This will push players on as he is seen as one of
the best footballers in the world people will listen to him. He has good communication levels as he
talks to his team constantly to give them advice either to say well done or mark players or even step
up the game etc. having this communication allows his team to have time to no what to do if they
have time on the ball. This is one of the most important qualities within football. Every game and
every training session he has to lead players and even manage players abilities. When he's on the
pitch he's managing his team by telling what to do and making key passes etc.

The people in key positions are essential to the things that makes the world go around, but
relationships influence how leaders manage, mentor, and move organizations forward. There is a
need in the world today for people responsible for others and resources in marketplace industries to
seek the wisdom of seasoned leaders in all facets of organizational leadership. Service in the United
States military, government, commercial marketplace, Church ministry, education, and parenthood

background of these people are routine questions often asked.
Leadership is a process of whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a
common goal. No matter how much the world changes, society imposes incessant requests for
capable, competent, and confident leaders as a necessity for social progression. There is a perpetual
challenge for leaders at varied levels to seek a mentor. Have you ever wondered if the President or
members of Congress have a mentor? Who are the mentors of influential church leaders comparable
to Charles Swindoll, T.D. Jakes, or Pope Francis? Does the Chairman of the Board of the Federal

How To Be A Military Leader Essay
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and
motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made
famous a quote that stated, "Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything
that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well." (Notable–

The warning order must also follow the guidelines of the five paragraph OPORD format. A warning
issue may include what the mission consists of, coordinating instructions, deadline, and who is all
responsible for seeing this task is seen through. Which brings us to our final step of leader's
responsibilities: make a tentative plan. This is what really separates the boys from the men. Up until
now, it was merely receiving orders of what to do and who is a part of the plan. Step 3 is all about
the plan for mission essentials, analysis, specific and implied tasks, and a restated mission report.
The responsibility for this step is something not for the weak minded as no situation is the same.

Why Do Leaders Lose Credibility
Five Reasons Leaders Lose Credibility
An ideal leader is persuasive, charismatic and righteous. No one would follow someone who is not
credible or fit enough for a leader's job. Persuasion is central to leadership. The message, the
messenger, along with the route of transmission matters. A plausible messenger is more likely to get
the confidence of the people who follow.
Communication and Other Factors
Communication is another big factor in leadership. A good leader is the one who is able to connect
with his people. Communication skills are not about good grammar or high command over a
language. A good communication requires the message to receive the other end in the same exact
pattern.
To have a command over your credibility, as a leader, you must be able to reason out with yourself.

Switching fields: We tend to switch our work, whenever we find more lucrative opportunities. But,
as a leader, you can't keep swapping positions. Loyalty to a field increases credibility. If you keep
jumping from one area to another, you tend to lose the expertise factor. Expertise increases trust
amongst people who follow you. Once your followers lose that trust, you lose your credibility.
2. Dishonesty towards your Organization: This is the worst a leader could do with their job. Double–
dealing and deceitful behavior towards your fellow employees is destructive. It will always make
you lose your credibility. It is an act of self–sabotage. Being unfaithful to your organization and
lying to your team will break their trust. Honesty is always the best policy everywhere.
3. Depriving your Organization of important information: You can't be a controller and a leader at
the same time. Leading is not synonymous to controlling. If you withhold important clues from your
employees, you will lose your

After realizing how your life story connects to your purpose and passion, the journey begins. Many
college graduates, and even some professionals believe the journey to leadership is a straight shot to
the top; as soon as you've landed top management, you've become a leader. But this idea is wrong.
Leadership is a journey that has many ups and downs. Bill George and Peter Sims have observed
three stages of leadership development:
I. Preparing for Leadership: Character Formation and Rubbing Up Against the World
II. Leading: Stepping Up to Lead
III. Giving Back: Generativity: Wisdom and Giving Back
As a student, I am in Phase I of my development. This stage is all about me; getting to know myself,
educating myself and gaining as much experience as possible. This is the phase where it is important
to ask ourselves, what do we want to do with our lives? In Phase II, we become leaders. In this
phase, we usually go through a crucible; a tough time in our lives that tests ourselves and transforms
our understanding of what leadership is all about. In Phase III, leaders are serving on for–profit and
not–for–profit boards, mentoring young leaders, teaching, or coaching. They inspire and motivate
others to become authentic leaders. This is said to be the most rewarding phase of leadership
development.

In this chapter, it was also emphasized that just like the gentleness of the staff, a good leader must

talks about having a constant improvement in your group. A shepherd must carry a rod which is used

work in today's sue happy world you will have to maintain extensive records of your employees.
You will have to sit down with each and every one of them and ensure they know what is expected

Leadership Styles and Qualities for Effective Leaders

  • 1. Leadership Styles-Leadership Training From Mindtools Leaders' styles encompass how they relate to others within and outside the organization, how they view themselves and their position, and – to a very large extent – whether or not they are successful as leaders (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Psychologist Kurt Lewin developed his framework in the 1930s, and it provided the foundation for leadership ("Leadership Styles – Leadership Training From MindTools.com," n.d.). He argued that there are three major styles of leadership: Autocratic leaders, Democratic leaders, and Laissez–faire, these particular leadership styles can explore the advantages and disadvantages of you used within a business or health organization ("Leadership Styles – Leadership Training From MindTools.com," n.d.). Here are a few examples from the MindTool: Autocratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The transactional leadership style and transformational leadership tools can help within or outside of the organization. Transactional leadership helps a leader to transactions between leader and followers, and a transformational leader thinks about changing the world, even if only on a small scale (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Although there is no guarantee that either a transactional or transformational leader will be an effective it will be left upon the individual themselves. A transformational leader thinks about changing the world, even if only on a small scale (Community Tool Box, n.d.). However, when breaking down the two different tools of leadership Dr. Martian Luther King Jr. was a perfect example of a transformational leader. Dr. King show an overwhelming in depth of true leadership when he delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech this was a man who show great strength in the midst of his fears, create unity, and convincing people that a vision is reachable while setting the tone that would echo to all citizens of all races who believed that racism was ... • 3. Faith Integration Paper BU 490 Lead By Example– Faith Integration Paper My father and uncles' instilled a statement in my head from a young age that I will never forget. This statement is closely related to the Law of Legacy and very relevant to being a leader in the modern business world. The statement only consists of a few words, but these words are very powerful and if this statement is followed, your reputation as a leader will be respected and hopefully emulated. The statement is, "Lead by example, do what is right, be the best you can be, and treat others the way you would like to be treated." I believe this statement is related to the law of legacy because it is action oriented. John Maxwell states in his description of the law of legacy that leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of these phases incorporated Jesus as leading by example and with each new phase, a higher level of commitment is necessary. The goal of this demonstration is that through your example, they will learn and use your tools to translate into being successful leaders themselves. A biblical example of the law of legacy comes from Moses in the book of Numbers. The scripture comes from Numbers 27:18–23. In this scripture, Moses strategically taught Joshua through apprenticeship training and passed along his legacy, which no one questioned upon the passing of the torch. Joshua eventually became known as a leader who would complete the task of leading the people into the Promised Land. This, according to Maxwell's description of the Law of Legacy is the ultimate goal, and exactly what Moses achieved. The subsequent examples are not only relevant to Moses teaching Joshua in the biblical times, but also for a modern leader preparing his "sheep" for taking over the business. Moses empowered Joshua and gave him authority. To be a successful leader in the modern business world, you have to decide when it is the appropriate time for your successor to receive a bite of the pie. If you wait to long and they are thrown straight into the fire, success may not be achieved and your legacy and or reputation may be damaged. If you share the load with your successor, they can better understand the qualities and actions needed to be successful. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A leader that knows his Priorities and has Concentration. "Don't major in minors" The great mystery isn't that people do things badly but that they occasionally do a few things well. Strength is always specific! Growth equals change. If you want to get better, you have to keep changing and improving. That means stepping out into new areas. **Work on yourself, on your priorities, in your strengths, and with your companions. Generosity: "No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave." Giving is the highest level of living. It's hard for a person to be generous when he is not satisfied with what he has. Generosity rises out of contentment, and that doesn't come with acquiring more. If you're not content with little, you won't be content with a lot. And if you're not generous with little, you won't suddenly change if you become wealthy. The measure of a leader is not the number of people who serve him, but the number of people he serves. Generosity requires putting others first. The only way to really win with money is to hold it loosely–and be generous with it to accomplish things of value. "Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. If it gets on top and you get under it, you will become its slave." • 7. Defining An Effective Leader My view on leaders is that leaders are those who accept additional responsibility above normal for decisions making and guiding others. Leaders will usually help direct others to become successful. Individuals usually choose their leader, whether it's a good decision or not, each person chooses who they follow. They will judge by behavior, attitude and actions. Qualities of a positive leader are shown in their actions and words. Most often, positive leaders are always striving for the best and won't settle for less out of others that may be on their team. Leaders normally don't direct with directives, they direct by showing examples. Instead of telling their peers or team exactly what to do, leaders will show or lead their directives by examples. Leaders normally stay in close contact with their assigned teams, if leading a team. Leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without goals and expectations our actions are meaningless. Everyone can get caught up in planning or making goals, but if we as part of the team, or the leaders of the team, don't strive to reach goals we set, leadership as well as goals, can all be meaningless. The objective to being a leader is making sure you put all energy and effort into being successful, not only for personal success, but also assisting your team you're leading to be the best they can be and achieve their individual goals, as well as team objectives. Having goals set as a leader, can be inspiring, to make you act and ensure you and your team are progressing in a positive manner, to reach all goals and expectations set for yourself and team. • 9. Personal Philosophy Of Leadership Leaders strive for the best in their organization and work hard to become successful. My leadership philosophy may be different from others, however, it may be effective as others. Leadership can be learned and practiced. I consider if you practice with ethics in mind then there will be no issues with your followers or organization. Leaders that practice unethically are often viewed in a negative perspective and often ruin their careers. Great leaders are hard workers and assist in improving the organization. Some are natural leaders, however, it has been stated leaders are made. My view of leadership consists of different types of leadership styles. I see myself as a private person and do not often have small talks and it is often mistaken that I am egotistic. I don't like to share my personal life with random individuals. Intuition focuses on the future and the possibilities. I see myself constantly thinking of the possibilities of what is possible when I receive my degree, in hopes of becoming successful. Thinking involves logic and analyzing, and I often have make sure I obtain the information before I make a decision. I am often told that I overanalyze a simple question or decision. Management is the organizational process that includes strategic planning, setting; objectives, managing resources, deploying the human and financial assets needed to achieve objectives, and measuring results. • 13. The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership was written by John C. Maxwell, who is an author, speaker, and a pastor. I found his take on leadership to be interesting, as he believed that leadership is leadership, no matter what context. The laws are similar no matter what realm they will be applied in. He successfully demonstrated how his laws apply in leadership in all forms, whether it is in church or in politics, in history or in sports. When he first began, he was told that he was a pastor and that he had no business experience; how could he possibly guide people in business? He has taken his leadership experiences from his church life and directly correlated them to many various fields. The book has many illustrations drawing parallels with sports and American history as well as corporate experts' stories. Maxwell doesn't claim that there are only 21 principles of leading. His intention through this book is to show what the laws of leadership are. These laws hold true, no matter which field you intend to lead in. As there are 21 different laws, some related closely to the others and some not, the summary will be going through each of the laws briefly. LAW #1: Law of the Lid The lid is a person's leadership ability. This leadership ability determines how effective that person can be. The lower or higher someone's leadership ability is, their effectiveness is respectively lower or higher. The idea of the law is that for someone who measures a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 on a ... • 15. Leadership Class Analysis Over the course of this class I have learned about the kind of leader I am as well as the kind of leader I prefer when being the follower in a situation. Whether or not it is common I am not sure, however I react to a different leadership style than the one I implement myself. Above I have created my own leadership model that I feel covers all of the aspects it takes to being a successful leader. There are three elements to being a productive leader in any given situation and it starts with you as a person. In order to be a leader I feel that you must first understand who you are as a person, you need to know what drives you to succeed, and what motivates you. As the leader of an organization, business, or large group you have to be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with yourself and moving through the phases until reaching your final outcome. One of the lectures from week two, Cunningham Skills, is a great way to begin understand yourself as a leader. If you as a leader can embrace and understand how to implement the six skills Cunningham believes are necessary to be a successful leader than you have the first element of my leadership model taken care of. My absolute favorite skill Cunningham discusses is the idea of managing symbols (Strong, 2016, Cunningham Skills), I believe the reason it sticks out so much to me is because becoming a teacher is something I have wanted for a while now and you have to know and understand how to conduct yourself in a manner that represents who you are as well as who your school is. It is so important in today's society to remember how much access others have to your personal life, whether your social media is private or not. Rick has held many positions of leadership in his life including, President of Weintraub and Associates, President of the Texas Rangers Season Ticket Advisory Board, Serving in the United States Air Force, Citizens Environment Committee Member, and serving as Precinct Chairman & Executive Committee Member. Whilst interviewing Rick I gained numerous nuggets of wisdom concerning leadership. He is someone who is looked up to in his field and has dealt with many issues concerning leadership. Rick is a great example of what a servant leader is and throughout his many years in leadership had much insight to share with me. In many of his leadership roles there was no monetary gains to be had. While he was serving as the president of the season ticket advisory board, he was influential in many changes and lead with integrity. When I asked him about servant leadership he said that leading with a servant's attitude is the most effective way that a leader can lead. He said that a commitment to servant leadership pays off in the long run even when immediate impact can not be seen. When asked if he thought leadership developed with experience, Rick had this to say, "Yes, because the person realizes that he or she has the ability to influence behavior, which is really what leadership is." He also said that when you mature in leadership you begin to realize how your behavior affects others and how you can get them to do what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Personal Statement On The Importance Of Self Awareness Introduction The purpose of this learning journal is to demonstrate the development of my learning and understanding of the importance of self–awareness in relation to leadership. In order to pursue my personal growth and career development I have kept a record of collection of ideas throughout the entire class in order to improve my leadership quality to achieve my desired goals by maximizing my strength and minimizing the weaknesses. Hence, in this journal I have chosen the four areas of leadership which influence my interpersonal relationship as a leader. Personal Leadership Personal leadership is regarded as important quality to a leader where a leader himself is motivated to do things. In pursuance of achieving such kind of leadership quality one should see himself as a role model. This can be achieved by setting high standards of responsibility. In other words it is the responsibility for all aspects of your life and leading it in the direction that suits best for you (Career et al., 2015). In my view, to develop your personal leadership skills, you should have a positive attitude in making your decisions that best suits you and making your own choices for positive outcomes. As stated by the meaning for personal leadership, making decisions at your best interest and taking full responsibility for the decisions you made helps you develop your ability to be an effective leader. Hence, adopting such kind of personal leadership will help me improve my decision making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How would you define their leadership? Everyone has their own definition of what a leader is or should be. There are many different leadership styles that one may need to share, or prefer to use, depending on the situation or what the leadership is used for, such as, a captain of a team is going to have different styles of leadership compared to a president of a country. To be a leader, one must guide and inspire with the use of words, but most importantly guide with actions. It is important as leader to be mindful of how actions set an example to those that they lead. If a leader says one thing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moral leaders put others first, and themselves last. Leaders who understand the moral obligation they have to their followers, who want to bring out the best in them are moral leaders. Moral leadership is the only way that leadership can exist. If leadership is not moral, it is no longer true leadership. Moral itself is the guideline of which action is good and/or bad and which makes it adequate or not. Throughout the articles "How to be an Ethical Leader" written by Paula Feranades and "The most overlooked leadership skill? Having a moral compass" by Linda A. Hill and lastly the chapter on "The new corporate leadership" by Graeme Salaman, numerous discussions emerge from the writings, for example, what goes along in making a leader successful and how ethics and morals may be the success to true leadership. In discussion of leadership, one controversial issue that has arisen, has been whether if leaders have a moral obligation. From one viewpoint, some argue that everyone has a diverse standard of morals, therefore do not have an obligation. Then again, others contend that it is a leader's job to do what is right without a hesitation. My own view is that leaders do have a moral obligation to be a successful ... It will not matter the rank, time in service or the maturity level of that Soldier because more than likely you will get ten different answers. Everyone has their own opinions on what an Army leader is, or what they believe a good Army leader is. By definition leadership in the Army is the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization (ADRP 6–22, 2012). There are three leadership competencies that make an Army leader; leads, develops and achieves. Leadership comes in all types of styles. No two Army leaders will have the same style. There is a saying that goes around our ranks today, "Your leadership traits strongly reflect your past leadership." Meaning that you will develop traits and habits that you have seen in your past leadership. Whether they are good or bad, you will not notice them yourself until you think about what you are doing or saying. It takes time to develop as a leader, and you will know when you find your style that works for you and you're Soldiers. Leading subordinates to success starts with building trust with your subordinates. It is important to gain trust throughout the ranks because without trust it is hard to influence Soldiers and complete the overall mission. • 27. The Qualities And Traits Of Leaders Essay 2 The qualities and traits of leaders A number of leadership traits almost come directly from within. These are the qualities that might be harder to train, but which make leading other people smoother. Committed A good leader has to show commitment. Fulfilling your vision won't happen overnight and you need to be able to convince everyone else that you won't disappear when things get tough. If you make a promise, you need to keep it. You can't just preach about achieving A, B and C, but you need to show that you are actually going to do it. Commitment matters for two reasons. First, when you show commitment you help build trust. The team and anyone involved with the project will be able to trust your word. Trust will keep work morale up and help you achieve objectives faster since people don't need to second–guess what your objectives are. But furthermore, the second aspect of commitment is about setting an example. As mentioned throughout the article, leadership is about setting an example and if you show commitment to your word, your subordinates will be inspired to stick to their promises. Using your own example of hard work, you will ensure the people around you feel motivated to do the same thing. Passionate Passion should be at the heart of everything you do. It doesn't matter whether you are a leader of a multibillion company or a lumberjack, without passion, you won't achieve success. You can understand its importance when you view it as the fuel to your truck. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next value that Harry Jensen Kramer Jr talk about is the need for balance. A leader may have his own set of values and opinions of a situation. Many leaders tend to be headstrong in their mind set that only their opinion matters. Anyone who does not believe in his opinion is just challenging his authority. This is a clear case of an ego issue. The open–mindedness opens room for god communication between the leader and his followers. This develops trust and respect within an organisation. My sports leader I have suggested is Steven Gerrard. He has all these qualities and is a very successful leader by being captain of Liverpool Football Club and also England. Being this well known he must have a very good attitude and is looked upon as a role model for many people. His decision making is brilliant as he makes decisions to make key passes within games that lead his team to victory. He has years of experience to know what decisions are needed to be made. As he is captain for Liverpool he needs to evaluate each players performance and give them feedback either when he can during a game or at the end of games. This will push players on as he is seen as one of the best footballers in the world people will listen to him. He has good communication levels as he talks to his team constantly to give them advice either to say well done or mark players or even step up the game etc. having this communication allows his team to have time to no what to do if they have time on the ball. This is one of the most important qualities within football. Every game and every training session he has to lead players and even manage players abilities. In this phase, we usually go through a crucible; a tough time in our lives that tests ourselves and transforms our understanding of what leadership is all about. In Phase III, leaders are serving on for–profit and not–for–profit boards, mentoring young leaders, teaching, or coaching. They inspire and motivate others to become authentic leaders.
