Learning technologies through product construction
1. What have you learnt
about technologies from
the process of
constructing this
product?
2. Camera - Canon
EO5 550D
Voice Recorder -
Sony ICD PX312
Tripod - Velbon
CX 444
Artificial Lighting
3. To film our opening sequence we used a Canon 550D. We set the
camera up so it would shoot in 720p at 30 frames per second. We
would of liked to shoot in 1080p at 50 frames per second, to make
our sequence better quality and have it look more realistic, but due
to not enough memory space we has to use 720p at 30fps. Even
though we had to use 720p at 30fps, our sequence still managed to
look professional.
With the Canon 550D we learnt how to use manual and automatic
focus. The automatic focus made it easy for us to get it in focus and
then it allowed us to use the manual focus to make sure it focused
on the person we were filming and not the background.
We used a tripod, a Velbon CX 444, to keep the camera steady when
filming. The tripod was quite easy to move around so it was a quick
process moving it to the next shot.
4. Dictaphone
For our opening sequence, we needed ambient sounds to help
build are sound bridge. We used a Sony ICD PX312 digital
voice recorder to record these. The thing we found out about
the dictaphone is that it picks up even the quietest sounds, so
we had to make sure we were recording sound affects and
the ambience track in a quiet room with no one else around.
Artificial Lighting.
Although we wanted our sequence to look as dark as
possible, the lighting in the room that we were filming in was
really bad so we had to use artificial lighting. This didn’t
cause much of a problem because we realised we could
changed the brightness when editing in Adobe Premiere Pro
CS5.5. We used to lights to light up what we were creating.
6. To edit our title sequence, I used Adobe Premiere Pro
CS5.5.We only had this editing software available to
us.We would have had Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 but
due to the price of it we weren’t able to have it. But
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 does the job we need it to
do. At the beginning of the course when I first learnt
how to edit using this program, It was very difficult but
with more practice it has got easier. I have learnt how
to cut clips and unlink the audio to the shot. I have also
learnt how to layer sound in order to create a sound
bridge. We thought it would be a good idea to have
our sequence in black and white so I found out how to
do it by dragging the black and white affect onto the
clip.We wanted the last clip of the sequence to turn
from black and whit into colour , so we found a tutorial
onYouTube on how to do.We also thought it would be
a good idea to have the clip of the man’s use overlap
the photo burning. So we put one clip on top of the
other and made it fade out.
7. To create our titles, for our title sequence, we used
Adobe After Affects CS5.5.The project that we
created on Adobe After Affects linked up to our
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5. project usingAdobe
Bridge. This allowed us to have the title s overlapping
our sequence. I have learnt how to put affect on the
titles for when they are coming in and going. We
used preset affects. Because we have a type writer
like font, Courier New, we thought it would be a
good idea to have the type writer affect for it coming
onto the screen. For the exit of the title, we used
fade out.We played around with they key frames so
that the title stayed on the screen for a sufficient
amount of time.
8. We usedVLC player that was already stored onto
the PC to watch the clips we shot and rename
them.TheVLC Player was really simple to use and
it was affective.
We used Microsoft Paint to save screen shots of
our process of editing the sequence. It’s a simple
and affective way to save a picture. You could
save it with a varied amount of formats. But the
ones we used most was JPEG and PNG as they are
the most common formats.
9.
10. • Tumblr
We used tumblr as our online blog.We were able to keep a record of everything
we had done.We were able to put different multi-media onto it. For example
videos and pictures. My blog consists of written text posts, links to other
websites, videos and pictures
•Art OfTheTitle
We usedArt OfTheTitle to look at similar opening sequences to our genre
crime/thriller.This helped give us an indication of how we wanted our title
sequence to look and also show us
the title sequence order.
•YouTube
We usedYouTube to look at opening sequence as well but we also used it
As a video hosting service for our opening sequence.
•YouTubeTo Mp4
We used this as a converter. We needed the ident for ‘New Line Cinema’ for our
title sequence. This website converted theYouTube video into an mp4 format.
