Titanfall Analysis

  1. 1. Developer: Respawn Entertainment Publisher: Electronic Arts Director: Steve Fukuda Producer: Drew McCoy Designer: Justin Hendry Artist: Joel Emslie |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Genre: First-person-shooter Platforms: Microsoft Windows Xbox 360 Xbox One TITANFALL Titanfall is a 2014 first-person shooter multiplayer video game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts exclusively for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The game was released for Windows and Xbox One on March 11, 2014, with an Xbox 360 release to follow in April. Respawn was formed in 2010 by the co-founders of Infinity Ward, the development studio behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The company announced Titanfall as their debut game at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference. GAMEPLAY Players fight either on foot as free-running "Pilots" or inside agile mech-style walkers called "Titans" to complete team-based objectives on a derelict and war-torn planet as either the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) or the Militia. The game is online multiplayer- only, but adds single-player elements such as plot, character dialogue, and non-player characters (NPCs). Bit-tech reported the game to have 15 maps, 33 weapons, and splitscreen support for the online multiplayer, though the developer had previously denied the latter. Respawn founder Vince Zampella described the game as bringing "scale, verticality, and story" to first-person shooter multiplayer gaming. DEVELOPMENT Following Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's release, Activision fired Infinity Ward co- founders Jason West and Vince Zampella in March 2010 for "breaches of contract and insubordination". Their departure resulted in a series of lawsuits and a staff exodus. Later that year, West and Zampella founded a game development company, Respawn Entertainment, with many of the former Infinity Ward staff. Pre-production began in 2011, and the game was originally planned for existing consoles. The idea for the game did not come easily, and the team arrived at its multiplayer-only and human-mech focus after much internal debate. Respawn artist Joel Emslie recalled starting with a human- sized suit as a "second skin", which the designers grew in size. As Respawn didn't have the necessary computers, the artists resorted to kitbashing and model making[23]—Emslie prototyped by putting a figurine inside a plastic model kit. Project influences include Blade Runner, Star Wars, Abrams Battle Tank, and Masamune Shirow of Ghost in the Shell. At E3 2011, Electronic Arts Labels president Frank Gibeau revealed that Respawn's first project was a science fiction shooter published by Electronic Arts. Two project leads left the company to begin their own studio in mid-2012, and West retired in March 2013.
  2. 2. Promotion for the game can be located on many different platforms such as the internet, Xbox or Television. Toys are released such as the K’nex Titan figure below to further spread the viewing of this product as a whole. Advertisement for the game are located on various websites, preferably gaming sites or websites that link to the gaming genre. Xbox release a bundle where you can purchase both the Xbox One and the game Titanfall. This gives any audience that has interest in the Xbox now have a chance to view the game and create word of mouth as well as spreading purchases of the game not only to fans of Titanfall but fans of the Xbox One. The promotion of this game has been focused in an area to get most gamers on the Microsoft/ Xbox fan base to play or be interested in Titanfall but at the same time gaining a wider audience by creating spin off products such as toys, energy drinks, and also co- advertising along with other companies or brands to broaden the view of this game. 3. 3. The games price ranges from which platform the buyer chooses to purchase it. PC: £44.99 XBOX 360: £54.99 COLLECTORS EDITION: £249.99 XBOX ONE: £54.99 The price ranges due to the detail and/ or graphics in the platforms they are compatible with. As a newly released game it has an average price, but also released is a collectors edition which includes a manual containing artwork from the game, posters, certificates and large model as well as the game. In my opinion this seems slightly over priced as a special edition but i can see how it attacks other gamers and builds a fan base by including collectibles and rare artwork for the buyers. Price
