Marie Lu Legend Quotes
Legend The book that was pick for this Essay was Legend by Marie Lu. The main point of this
essay is to talk about examples of text evidence and what the texts means. It will also explain the
text to where people will actually understand it. Legend is set in dystopian Los Angeles, in a time
where North America has devolved into two warring countries The Republic and The Colonies.
Legend centers around Day and June, two 15 year olds from opposite sides of the war. "Most of
Day's crimes involve saving people. All except Metias." Marie Lu, p. 123. The reason that Day has
never committed murder before is the reason June questions his guilt. This quote also tells one of the
main questions of the novel, whether a person can break the law and ... Show more content on

"She was a girl who'd lost her brother, and someone had led her to believe I did it, and in anguish
she had tracked me down. If I'd been in her place, would I have done anything differently?"Maria
Lu p. 230. This quote shows the ways that Day has grown because of his experience while he was
with June. At First , he felt anger while he was June because she betrayed him. However, after
making an effort to empathize with her he comes to understand why she treated him the way she did.
He also begins to see what he has common with the girl he believes is his enemy. Near the end of
the book June finally understand why Day means so much to her and how she can't let him go, he
reminds her of her brother. The two main points that i have picked might not seem like the have an
impact on society, but when kids that live in a place like the ghettos can relate to Day. Marie Lu
purpose of writing this book was to show the readers that judging them by what they look like and
how they act can be very wrong. Society today has a really big impact and judging people has gotten
worse. We judge people that are rich, poor, or have bad qualities. Marie tries to show us through the
book that our world has changed, but it can surely

Personal Narrative: Volunteering At The Hospital
A music box like sound twinkled with a bright tune throughout the hospital. Its tune was heard from
the quiet and calm patient rooms, through the long white hallways, and to the comfortable hospital
lobby where I stood waiting. I wonder what that sound was? Well, who cares? I've got other things
to worry about. It was my first day of volunteering at the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. The
first tasks I was assigned were to greet, to help, and to escort visitors to their destination. My shaky
hands were clasped together in an attempt to stay calm. Jeez I hope I don't get lost while escorting a
visitor.
"Hey don't worry too much! It's a bit nerve wracking the first couple times but you'll get the hang of
it! Plus, you've always got the amazing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

lives who had been brought into the world. There were visitors who came to celebrate, who came to
mourn, who came to share pain, and who came to hope. There were people who came to be healed.
There were also the hospital workers whose purposes were to comfort, heal and listen to the stories
of all the people who passed through the hospital. They chose to be there to try to make the world a
bit better. As a volunteer, I had the same

Research Paper On Scoliosis
Hi, I am Sara Fairman and I am a normal girl. I have blonde hair, light skin, green eyes and a bit of
freckles. But one thing is different about me. Something you would not notice by just looking at me.
You would have to look deeper. Literally. I have scoliosis. The definition of scoliosis is the
abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. I hate it. I have had scoliosis for 2 years now. I have learned
to cope with it. This is my scoliosis story. It all started when I was 10 years old just starting 5th
grade. 1st year of middle school. I had a doctor's appointment right in the middle of social studies. I
love social studies! Well, right as I got in the room, I had to leave. I had a check up. They checked

It was partly because of the x–ray. I decided to interrogate my mom about everything she knew. I
did not get much more information than I already knew. So that was hopeless. Meanwhile all my
friends wanted to know what happened. I told them everything, but they still did not know
everything they wanted to. I was doing not so good in school. I had all B+'s except for one A– in my
language, one A in An I usually get all A's! I researched scoliosis. That's what I did instead of
studying. I hated scoliosis. I really hoped I did not have it. But sadly that was not the case. On the
5th of November we got the results after school on Friday. I had it. I was going to come to the Idaho
Scoliosis center to get my back brace on Saturday, have a follow up on Sunday, and miss part of
school on Monday for the final adjustments. When I woke up I got dressed at 8:45. We were
supposed to be there at 9:30 AM. I went downstairs at 9:00 after getting dressed and brushing my
teeth. When it was time to go I did no want to go. "Nooooooooo! I don't want to!" I cried. "If you

The Car Ride From America
I just hated the car ride from Illinois to New York. Not to mention that Pennsylvania is the worst
state to drive through. It was worth it to see my Aunt and new uncle and the baby but before that
let's recap. Mom, Lauren and I are in the car on our way to see my aunt Meghan but she lives in
New York and we live in Illinois. When we get to New York we go to the hospital and she my aunt.
As we get to the room she is in the bathroom and her water breaks. We are out in the hallway
because the nurses are trying to see if there's any complications.
When we go into the room my aunt is in bed and she's super pregnant. It looked like she had a
pumpkin inside her! She wasn't allowed to eat all day she was on a clear food's diet, which means

We stayed for the longest time but I liked being with the baby I took so many pictures that my phone
heated up so much that it said, " Please wait you phone has overheated wait 10 minutes before using
again." I got so mad because I just wanted to take picture and if I would have known I was
overheating I would have set it down but I have an otterbox case. But then we left and got our
dinner which was ruby tuesday because it was one of the closest thing to our hotel.
After that we went to bed because we had to get up at 9:00 am to go see Meghan and Nazire. We
went to panera bread for breakfast and my mom let us get whatever we wanted so I had soup for
breakfast. Then we went to the hospital and Meghan was still in her bed just chillin. Then the doctor
walked in with a very serious look on his face. Meghan just said " What's wrong with my baby"
" I'm so sorry ma'am but your baby has a very low blood sugar"
" Is there a way to fix it" I asked
"Yes" I felt a rush of relief when I heard that.
" If he eats his meals"
Meghan was relieved and for some reason he wouldn't eat her breast milk so we started to give him
formula. I can't even remember what happened after but we stayed late again we went to chipotle for
dinner and It was good then we went back to the hotel and I was so excited to go into the hot tub
because I didn't get to go in it the whole time we were there and I was so mad

My Nurse Monologue
I woke up that morning, the same as any other. Still in that blank old hospital room, the same stiff
hospital bed with the little red button to signal the nurse when I woke up or needed help. I pressed
the button and heard Lilly coming down the quiet hallway. The door creaked open slowly and Lilly
peaked her head in the room, "Good Morning Noah." She's always so smiley and sunshiney, she's
the only nurse like that here. "Ready to get dressed and get some of that delicious breakfast you love
so much?" I sat up and smirked at her cause she knows how much I hate the breakfast here.
Grabbing my glasses off the small cheap bedside table I could see Lilly 's smile more clear now. She

A Birthday Cake Short Story
A young boy, Scotty, is involved in a hit and run car accident on his birthday as he walks to school
on a Monday morning. Scotty dies three days later as a result of occlusion, which doctors say would
have been prevented had it been recognized earlier. Scotty's mother, Ann Weiss, who is interactive
and loves making friends, had ordered a sixteen–dollar cake on Saturday for his son's eighth
birthday, which scheduled to take place on a Monday from a taciturn baker whom he left her
telephone number. The baker, oblivious of Scotty's accident and demise, makes harassing calls to
Scotty's home asking them to pick up their three–day–old cake. The story ends with the baker being
rueful and asking for forgiveness for how he treated the Weiss family stating that it was a result of
solitude and childlessness. Indeed, one needs to be kind to others as everyone we come across is
fighting their battle.
The story brings compassion and friendliness to the characters. At the beginning of the story when
ordering a birthday cake, Ann Weiss tries to engage the baker in a conversation, but his quiet nature
makes her wonder if he has ever had anything else to do in his life apart from baking. Because of his
quiet reaction, she gives up making friends with him. Her compassionate nature is also seen when
she inadvertently steps into a little waiting room while looking for an elevator, and Franklin's family
thinks that she is the nurse, asking about his condition. They narrate to her how he was

Essay On School Day
I woke up as if it were any other typical school day, forcing myself out of bed. I threw on the pitch
black shirt I had laying beside me and the denim jeans laying on my cold tile floor from last night.
Reluctantly, I brushed my hair and then my teeth. Suddenly, chronic pains shot through my lower
back and to my abdomen. My head pounding, I realized I hadn't had any water for a few days. Sharp
pains all over, I started to feel worse and worse as the clock in the top left corner of my bedroom
ticked. I stumbled my way to the kitchen, trying to hold myself up on anything I could grab. I
struggled to get a glass out of the cabinet and fill it with water from the sink. After I crawled my
way back to my room, I laid on the floor, unable to pull myself up onto the bed. A few seconds went
by before I shut my eyes and passed out.
Hours later I woke up feeling even worse than I had before. Luckily, my aunt was stuck at home
after getting sandwiched between two cars just outside of Taylor. Upon arriving at our house, my
aunt decided to stay and take care of me, every hour or so checking my temperature and bringing me
a fresh glass of ice water. She told my family I was fine and getting better, although I knew I was
getting much worse. And after hearing the news from my aunt that I was getting better, my mom
didn't believe her and she called me to ask how I was doing. I told her I was feeling worse and that I
needed to go to the hospital. She responded, "Ok. I will be there as soon as

My Final Day At College
The bell rang and that concluded my final day at college. I went to Stanford University with my
friend Thomas White. Thomas and I were practically together for our whole life, we were even born
in the same hospital on the same day. We were inseparable and did everything together. When we
finished our years at college we decided to go travel. We had always dreamed of it and now we had
a chance. So we bought two one way tickets to Ecuador that left in a week. "Did you pack
everything you need?" Thomas asked the morning of our flight. "I can 't find my toothbrush, but I
can buy one at the airport." I replied, " Hurry, let 's go." We left and drove thirty minutes, practically
bouncing in our seats with excitement. When we finally arrived, Thomas parked the car, we
unloaded our 50 pound bags, practically ran through security, and barely caught our flight. The next
eight hours consisted of eating overly salted peanuts, reading the skymall magazines, and falling
asleep after 30 minutes. We awoke to finds ourselves landing at General Rivadeneira Airport in
Tachina, Ecuador. Seeing that our belongings were spread out among the area, we frantically
gathered them and exited the plane. It was so wonderful to finally be here. The first thing we did
was my childhood dream, skydiving. Not two hours after we landed we were back up in the sky.
Since neither Thomas nor I had ever been skydiving, we had to jump attached to an expert. It was

Examples Of Confucianism In The True Story Of Ah Q
The late nineteenth century to the early twentieth was an important period for China, in which a
large number of reformers and revolutionaries, in the hope of changing the old China, struggled to
make China powerful and stable. The voice of abandoning Confucianism grew stronger and
stronger, which they contended that it was Confucian that hindered the development of Chinese. Just
take Lu Xun for example. He argued that Confucianism was the "man–eating manners", which gave
birth to those who just cared about themselves without any conscience of protecting their family.
Moreover, Lu Xun put forward that China should learn from the Western. Another example is Hu
Shi. He extremely called for the Modern Chinese language must be in the place of ... Show more

The prominent character of him was self–deceiving and self–important, which exactly reflected the
farmer's ideas at that time. He was not only the symbol of the poor proletarian but also a farmer
suppressed by authority. In addition, he did not have a name at all, and the only name he got was
deprived by Mr. Zhao.
The method that Ah Q most often used was spirit victory. That was kind of expression of self–
deceiving. For example, when he was beaten, he comforted himself by using" Son hit his father".
Moreover, while other people teased him that he was poor, he argued that my ancestors were richer
than yours. His characters, in essence, were devoid of self– awareness. He judged people with his
own standard, where anything that not conform to his standard would be wrong.
From this novel, Lu Xun seriously criticized the social reality at that time when people were self–
deceiving, who always took themselves as the center of the world. The attitude of Lu Xun toward
farmers was that on the one hand, he felt sympathetic to them. On the other hand, he hated that they
did not fight for themselves. With his sharp pen, he analyzed the reason why the farmers always lag
behind others, while showing sympathy to them. Meanwhile, he tempted to use his novel to warn
Chinese reformers, although May Fourth movement awakened a part of Chinese people like
students, most Chinese peasants were still ignorant and

Who Is Marie Lu's Legend: Symbolic Archetype
Independent Reading Project for Marie Lu's Legend PART V: SYNTHESIS / ALLUSIONS AND
SYMBOLS In "Legend," Marie Lu develops her entire plot on one symbolic archetype. This
Archetype is Innate Wisdom vs. Educated Stupidity. In Legend, this symbolic archetype shows the
relationship between the poor and the rich. The government has total control over the people. Day,
from a poor civilian perspective, questions the Republic's motives. With first–hand experience, Day
has "innate wisdom". June, on the other hand, a high ranking officer in the military, accepts anything
that the Republic does. June has no reason to question the Republic, so she is the character with
"educated stupidity". June is unaware of the Republic's secret doings. Day, ... Show more content on

The government is called "The Republic". The story is told from two perspectives. This makes the
plot even more engaging. Marie Lu uses two 15–year–olds named June and Day two narrate the
novel. Marie Lu did an incredible job of keeping me entertained. Once I picked up this thrilling
book, I read for hours until the book was completed. Legend has a plot like I have never seen before.
The way that Lu integrated Day and June into each other's lives was unique and unexpected by me. I
didn't know what was happening until the very last chapters of the book. In Legend, Day and June
are introduced as stark opposites. Both Day and June have scored a 1500 on "the trial", a
government mandated exam taken at age 10. Low scores mean work in the "labor fields" and high
scores mean a future holding high school and college, and coincidentally, the poor sectors score
lower than the rich areas. Day feels that the government, The Republic, is keeping secrets from the
people. Day spends his time intervening in government doings, in hopes to slow them down.
Observing the book as a whole, I saw no real problems. One issue that I did have was the speed at
which June came to trust Day. As soon as June accesses the database created by her older brother
Metias, she wants to do anything she can to help him escape. June is angry with The Republic, and
by the end of the book, she falls in love with Day. Other than this, Marie Lu does a great job of
creating a gentle transition through the plot. I would highly recommend this book for other young
adults because of its engaging

eczema above my eyes. "Come on!" my brother screamed. It was a Saturday morning. He was
playing video games, being attracted to tech, and basically other teenager stuff. Him yelling at the
TV reminded me that it was the weekend. I'll just play video games. That will keep me distracted. I
went to the PS4, and started playing. A huge itch hit me like baseball bat. I scratched my under my
nose a little bit, but it couldn't stop the burning sensation. I began to rub, but as soon as my hand hit
my mouth, it felt like lava. The stinging hurt like there would be no tomorrow, and I immediately
stopped. I ran to the bathroom, and checked the mirror. There was red, all over my mouth. It was
spreading extremely fast "Lunch!," My mom said, yelling from all the way downstairs. My brother
and I raced downstairs, but I made sure to go fast so my parents wouldn't be able to see my face. As
soon as I reached the bottom floor, I turned left, away from the living room And into the kitchen.
My parents were in the kitchen, preparing the food. Just my luck. I tried looking like nothing was
wrong. As I reached for my food, I felt my mom touch my face. She looked at it, and yelled, "Dion!"
My dad came in, and both of them examined my face. "We should go

Personal Narrative : Life Changing Experiences
Going through life changing experiences and being exposed to new and unwanted is difficult to
overcome. As humans, we can withstand so much, and it reaches the point where we can no longer
deprive ourselves from portraying our emotions and shedding out tears. It was like being suffocated
into an internal depression with no escape that consumed the vivid and optimistic personality that
was once there. It was hard to accept the reality that was laid in front of me. Hesitantly, and by force
the truth had slowly began to merge into my heart. Yet, confusion and disbelief still created
questions that weren't understandable, especially when knowing that a person who radiated his
optimistic energy to everyone was being devoured by a plague that left him in fragile conditions.
The agonizing hours of having to wake up early in the morning were finally over, school was no
longer in session but the searing heat continued without mercy to burn our faces. Even when we
stood beneath the shady trees we didn't receive a cooling gust that satisfied our heat. But the grasp
of unlimited freedom was within reach, giving me power to sleep late at night, and then sleep in.
Nothing could go wrong, or at least that's what I thought. That afternoon the cerulean sky emitted a
calm and relaxing ambience, and the clouds lingered next to the tangerine sun that gave fiery kisses
to our sunburnt skin. However, my family and I were concealing ourselves from any outdoor
communications,

Personal Narrative: The Surgical Center
"See? T–there is nothing to b–be afraid of," Neil assured. We were currently inside the elevator as
the doors were shutting; my eyes were covered by my hands, and I was leaning against the wall for
support. It had taken another ten minutes after agreeing to do it before I got myself to actually get on
the thing.
The elevator began moving, and my nerves kicked into high gear the more I thought about it. The
ten seconds it took to it to get to the fourteenth floor, where Neil wished to go to, felt like an
eternity; each second longer and more painstaking than the last. When I felt that I was about to lose
it, the elevator stopped moving and the doors opened.
A sigh of relief escaped me and I quickly wheeled Neil out. The doors closed behind us and I took a
few breaths trying to return my heart rate to normal. When I finally calmed down, I looked around
to see where we actually were. The lobby was bare except for two vending machines to the right,
there was a giant set of double doors in front of us and a second pair claiming the left wall. A sign
beside the doors on the left said, "Surgical Center" and the sign beside the doors in front of us read

Narrative Essay On Bead Mazes
I could hear her weeping from the other side of the door now. My mother's loud crying was only
interrupted by the broken speech she tried to spit out between her sobs. The dimly lit, cramped
waiting room mixed the sounds of despair with some poor rendition of Chopin that blared
intrusively from the perches of a pair of cheap speakers in the corner. On a short wooden table there
sat a couple of magazines advertising the new happenings within the lives of people I did not care
about. Next to that was one of those children's play toys with colorful metal pathways for wooden
shapes to glide across; bead mazes I would later learn that they were called. I crossed my legs in my
chair and sighed as I let the sounds assault my eardrums. This was just ... Show more content on

The one closest presented a rather dismal view of the fenced apartments in the next lot. The other

We have been waiting nine long months, and we have had much preparation to do before the arrival
of our daughter. Of all the things we have prepared for her, I am most proud of her room, my mother
and I painted it and sat it up with all the accessories together. I sat on the floor and taped off the
stripes to be painted, and my mom painted. It was a great team effort, and we are so happy how it

A Short Story : A Story?
A light rain pitter–pattered against the windshield of Tom's Mustang. Every few minutes, a burst of
sunlight exploded through the clouds, creating gasoline rainbows in the opalescent puddles pitting
the asphalt. Stifling a yawn, the young officer stared into the distance, his concentration waning with
each passing mile. Maybe it was the hypnotic swish of the windshield wipers, or maybe, it was the
knowledge he was about to face Booker for the first time since their disastrous date. Either way, his
focus wasn't on the road, and he failed to notice the red light. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a
white sedan heading toward him, but it was too late for him to react. The vehicle crashed into his
door, the impact spinning the car around and slamming it into a light post. With no seatbelt to
protect him, his body jerked forward, the force smashing his temple against the windshield. A bolt of
pain exploded inside his head, and he slumped against the steering wheel, the loud blare of the horn
following him into oblivion.

Pulling into the chapel's parking lot, the first thing Booker noticed was the absence of Tom's
Mustang. A frown of annoyance tightened his lips into a firm line. Nothing pissed him off more than
a coward, and if Tom thought he could make the last few weeks magically disappear just by
avoiding him, then he was sadly mistaken. Despite his reputation, Dennis Booker was a man of
principle, and he expected others to follow the same moral path. Tom needed to man

June And Julia Champion Quotes
"I can't do this". (Lu 223) The Colonies are invading the Republic because a disease caused by the
Republic was spreading through their land. The only way to stop the Colonies is to find a cure for
the disease. In the dystopian book Champion by Marie Lu the dual first person point of view shows
how Day's and June's decision contrast because of the way they think. When Day sees the patriots he
reacts with emotion however when June sees them she keeps her cool. Day is worried about the poor
being evacuated so he asks the elector, the Republic's leader where they are going to be sent. Day
wants the poor to be treated equally so he pressures the elector into making it easier for the poor to
be evacuated. During the evacuation of the capital city Day thinks about the poor and his brother
being evacuated prompting him to ask the elector, where are the poor being sent? During the
evacuation June thinks about getting out safely and Day's brother. This shows how Day uses his
heart and thinks about everyone. Compared to June who uses more logic and just thinks about
getting her job done of getting out safely."Where are you evacuating the poor". (Lu 109) When the
elector tells Day the poor aren't his first priority he stays back to help them. June does not like this
idea but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Day can't handle seeing June and being reminded of his family this causes him to go back to
his house. Will Day be able to cope with being reminded of his family every time he sees June?
"Help me I whisper desperately". (Lu 223) Day being with June is a reminder of all the family he
lost and it makes it hard for Day to be with her. If Day were to think more logically he would know
what's best for him. June realizes this and thinks it will be best for Day and her to not be together.

The Effects Of My Life
The dull lights cast gloomy shadows over the mouldy creased tent as the smell of dirt and mud
lingered through the frosty air. Off in the far distance, we all heard the disturbing crunch echoing in
the quite of the night. For a few seconds, only silence prevailed, while we remained still; our feet
sinking deeper into the mud anxiously anticipating another sound to be heard. Instead, only
resounding silence followed.
Memories of a similar day echoed through my head, fifteen years ago exactly to the day.
Recollections spun round my head, flashbacks of my trembling fourteen year old self walking into a
tent unlike the one I was currently in. Images tumbled through my mind, one with less mould, less
creases. The memories of the smell of mints ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I picked up my bag. The leather straps feeling coarse underneath the rough skin of my hands, you
could tell they were the hands of a manual labourer. The doors to the waiting room loomed ahead,
the first sight of anything that brought a smile to my face. Adrenaline rush filled me as I barged past
all the familiar faces, reminding me of times back on the field. A group of family members walked
around the corner. Anxiously I waited. The memories of my youngest brothers smile. How old
would he be now? Would he remember me? The thought of it brought a smile to my face as I sat
with luggage in hand. I took out the gold time–piece my father gave me before I left for service.
Flipping it thrice in my hands. Fifteen years old, the condition as good as new, apart from a small
chip on the circumference between the twelve and the one. One long strand of a golden chain
hanging loose and collecting itself in the palm of my left hand. It was a familiar comforting weight.
The only possession that I really counted as mine.
"The cabs pulled up outside the doorway waiting for you, come out when you're ready."
Feelings of expectation and nervousness on meeting my family again flooded every nerve in my
body, as I continued to sit and watch others before me. I was one of the lucky ones. Lucky to be
intact? Or lucky to return at all. Those that were not so lucky wobbled through the door on crutches,

Symptoms And Treatment Of My Childhood
Most people would not find weight loss, heat intolerance, and an elevated heart rate in a twelve
year–old particularly worrying. Most people, assuming they even noticed these things, might write
them off as "growing pains." My mother, however, was not most people. She was a registered nurse,
eighteen years in, and she had an inkling of what the symptoms might indicate. I remember feeling
concerned that my mother had deemed it necessary to schedule an appointment at Vanderbilt
Children's Hospital. Sitting in the examination room, I felt my nerves heighten as my mother
described the seemingly inoffensive symptoms to the physician, who regarded her intently. The
subsequent blood test confirmed what my mother had suspected: elevated T3/T4 and suppressed
TSH levels, indicating hyperthyroidism.
The unknown term frightened me instantly. Sensing my alarm, my endocrinologist explained what
hyperthyroidism meant. My thyroid was producing excessive amounts of hormones. She assured me
that the condition was manageable, and with daily medication and occasional blood tests, I would be
fine. The sincerity in her eyes and the warmth of her voice were all I needed to trust her words.
Through the remainder of my childhood, I became very familiar with the Children's Hospital.
Spending so much time in the waiting room before appointments yielded the opportunity to observe
many other children, both older and younger, many with cases more debilitating than mine. A part of
me was saddened that

Short Story : A Wish For Hope
"A Wish for Hope" With my bags packed and my phone charged, I set off for Memphis, Tennessee
with my cousin and her parents. It was time for Kaylie's annual checkup at St. Jude. As a baby,
eighteen years ago, Kaylie was diagnosed with leukemia–a cancer of blood and bone marrow. She
overcame the disease after a hard battle, but it left scars. However, she doesn't let anything hold her
back from being the kindest and the most genuine person I know. When she asked if I wanted to go
with her to Memphis, I thought, "Sure. It'll be a fun road trip with my family and it would be neat to
see the hospital." I had no idea what was waiting for me when I arrived. We checked into our hotel
and went to a family favorite spot–the Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid. This place was amazing. It is
much bigger than any of the stores around here, and it was in a large mirrored glass pyramid. It was
the true "sportsman's paradise". It was also very family–centered, which you could easily tell from
the restaurant and bowling alley located inside. So we shopped, ate, and bowled (I had a final score
of 26, but I had fun getting there). It's in times like those that Kaylie seems to be what we might
refer to as "normal". She was in her element, laughing and being around people she loves. That was
completely different from the events of the next day. We woke up early and headed down the street
to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I cannot put into words my initial reactions. As I

my friend to come out so we could all go home knowing that he was going to be okay, while we

My Best Friend
She was the best friend anyone could have, kind, compassionate you know the type. The ones you
think will never leave you no matter what always by your side through thick and thin, the one that
feels like they're your lost sibling.
We were so close for so many years, like sisters. We talked about everything, we shared so much
always there for me helping me out the mud if you like, every time I was sad she wouldn't leave me
alone until I told her. We used to go on road trips down south then sleep in her ute at the bottom of a
waterfall or by a beach, she showed me how to live. She would bring out the best in me.
It was a warm summer night we were parked up by Lake Taupo. It was horrible, while I was
sleeping this guy came out of the forest where we spent laying looking at the stars moments before.
He came out sawed off shotgun in hands, took one shot right at her. I bolted upright and dragged her
into her ute and drove to the hospital begging her not to die, police on the phone as he was shooting
as I drove off.Sitting in the hospital waiting room was the hardest thing ever not being allowed to
just go in and sit with her, having to wait for her to stabilize. I finally decided to go get something to
eat. I walked past her room as I did I glanced in to check on her. It was the worst thing to see. Heart
monitor flatlining, doctors injecting and doing CPR nurses rushing past with carts. It felt like I was
frozen, I broke down right there. Tears gushing, begging her not to die.

A High School Story
"I'm different because everyone else is not me." This as written by Julian Aguilar, a famous
screenwriter for Hollywood films. It was my first day at a real school, preschool doesn't count, and I
was starting first grade, since I skipped kindergarten. It wasn't always easy being the youngest in
your entire grade, and sometimes, the whole school, but I made it through and even got into GATE.
That's what this story is all about. "Are you ready for your first day of school?" my mom asked me.
"I sure am!" I said. She asks me if I'm excited and I told her how enthusiastic and anxious I was.
When she drives me to my new school, I got more and more pumped. I can hardly wait! As uneasy
as I was, though, I was also honored to be the only five year old in first grade. "We're here!" my
mom exclaimed as she pulled into a parking lot. There was a sign that said: Ladera Elementary
School. "Awesome! I'm not in preschool anymore, I'm an older girl!" I exclaimed. "That's right

went into the office and met the principal, then, the principal , introduced me to my teacher, Mrs.
Scott, and some new friends, Cassandra, Skylar, MacKenzie, and Madison. During the time we were
in the office, my mom had signed a form that I didn't really pay attention to it, but a few weeks later,

Ghost Stories: Notatoss
Doctor Rumbolt of Crinkletown was employed by the local NOTATOSS firm which carried out
medical work capability assessments on behalf of the Employment and Pensions Bureaux.
NOTATOSS were a rogue firm who classified benefit claimants fit for work even when they were
severely disabled or suffered from life threatening illnesses. Doctors and nurses who had been struck
off were often employed by NOTATOSS and they were not trained in anything disability related.
Doctor Rumbolt was no exception. He was rotund and had greying to white hair and was balding

the best sherry that money could buy. He very rarely classified claimants unfit for work because for
him it was not financially viable. The more people he classified fit for work, the greater his financial
gain. Financial gain and maintaining the lifestyle to which he was most accustomed was top priority.

even made you do training for almost a week so that your wounds have time to heal. (You've still
got to wear a long sleeve dress, though, there are scars that you aren't allowed to let anyone see.)
That's a huge privilege in and of itself so you're on cloud nine as you walk down the block to your
preschool hand in hand. He drops you off at the door but before you walk into the room, you're met
with one more surprise. Your brother reaches into his pocket, takes something out, and kneels down
to meet gaze. You tap his hand and look up at him with a question in your eyes and he responds by
opening up his hand and fitting a smaller pair of his own sunglasses on your face. You hug him and
grin and rush inside the classroom. When you get inside you're met by a sweetly smiling teacher
who takes your hand and introduces herself as Ms. Rosa and compliments you on your flowery
dress and guides you to your seat. It's next to a kid who's currently mauling a bright red crayon by
shoving it repeatedly onto a piece of printer paper, making waxy flecks all over the page. You ask

China 's Nationalism And Isolation From Western Society
For thousands of years China has operated dynastically, in a cyclic mode, causing no forward
movement or linear progress. China's ethnocentrism and isolation from Western society led to
internal disorder. The isochronous nature of the Chinese feudal system eventually led to the demise
of the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. This vulnerability provided Western influence
allowing for imperialism throughout the country. Students and intellectuals with Westernized
educations saw that the political and social turmoil was attributed to a long history of rejection of
anything Western. On May 4, 1919, students led a revolt, called the May Fourth Movement, against
Confucian culture promoting science, democracy, and anti–imperialism. The May Fourth Movement
was a period of total iconoclasm, of complete rejection of past tradition, and of absolute ratification
of western ideals resulting in a literary revolution. By exploring Lu Xun's realist writing style and
Yu Dafu's romantic writing style, the true function of literature during the May Fourth era is
revealed.
May Fourth Background: The May Fourth movement occurred as a response to the Chinese
government's poor response to the Treaty of Versailles, known as the Shandong problem. The Treaty
of Versailles took the rights to the Shandong providence, in China, from Germany and gave them to
Japan. When attending the meeting, China came with three requests; first was abolition of all foreign
privileges, second was the

Personal Narrative : A Short Story
"I met your mother on a muggy February afternoon on a short trip to the grocery store". Sam said to
his daughter, who was sitting across from him, sipping on a warm coffee. "At least, so I thought. A
'short trip' turned into something else when it started raining down – cats and dogs, if you will – and
suddenly I couldn't see where I was driving", he continued. "I should've slowed down, taken
precaution, but I kept going." "I lost control for a moment after hitting what seemed like a bump. I
slammed on the breaks and it took me a minute to come to terms with what had just happened.",
Sam ––. "I decided to get out of the car to assess the damage I had just done." "Panic consumed me
as I walked over to a limp dog, covered in blood." Sam said solemnly, "I felt rushed to get myself
and this poor dog off of the road. I grabbed the dog and carried him over to my car, just as I reached
the door I slipped and both the dog and I hit the pavement.", Sam had started to become lost in his
own story and continued without hesitation. "I gathered myself and the dog, which was completely
unconscious, and got us both in the car.", sam –– "There was an animal hospital close by, and I felt
that I had no choice but to take him." "Why haven't I heard this story before? Dad, this seems so
dramatic." Sam's daughter let out. "By the time I reached the hospital I was in full hysterics... What
had I just done? Was this dog dead? Could he be helped?...", Sam –– "As I rushed through the doors

The Habits Of Our Generations
It's Thanksgiving and all of the teenagers are hunkered together at a table motionless, the only thing
moving is their eyes over their phone screens. This leads to older generations telling us how lazy
and selfish our generation is, to which we always look up from our phones to deny and fight.
Though when you think about our generation's generalized tendencies, we are seemingly exactly
what older generations describe. Yes we do have those who are lazy and those who are outgoing just
like any other generation, but the selfishness and laziness is above average. Too many kids are going
out to shop with their parents hard earned money while snapchatting how they've "worked hard for
this shopping trip." It is as if we become oblivious just so we can impress others or have others feel
that we are "relatable." Though our generation doesn't notice it, we are lazy and selfish as a society.
We as a generation are the way we are because of the multitude of enablers that are made available
to us. It isn't completely our fault that we come off as selfish and lazy, we have several things to
credit for part of our actions. Social media has given us the challenge of showing only the best of
ourselves on a daily basis. It puts us in a different world where nothing else matters other than
getting that video or shot that will catch people's attention. Today it is realistic to see someone
choking to death while being surrounded by people taking videos of them, uncaring of whether they
live or

Marie Lu Legend Quotes

  • 1. Marie Lu Legend Quotes Legend The book that was pick for this Essay was Legend by Marie Lu. The main point of this essay is to talk about examples of text evidence and what the texts means. It will also explain the text to where people will actually understand it. Legend is set in dystopian Los Angeles, in a time where North America has devolved into two warring countries The Republic and The Colonies. Legend centers around Day and June, two 15 year olds from opposite sides of the war. "Most of Day's crimes involve saving people. All except Metias." Marie Lu, p. 123. The reason that Day has never committed murder before is the reason June questions his guilt. This quote also tells one of the main questions of the novel, whether a person can break the law and ... If I'd been in her place, would I have done anything differently?"Maria Lu p. 230. This quote shows the ways that Day has grown because of his experience while he was with June. At First , he felt anger while he was June because she betrayed him. However, after making an effort to empathize with her he comes to understand why she treated him the way she did. He also begins to see what he has common with the girl he believes is his enemy. Near the end of the book June finally understand why Day means so much to her and how she can't let him go, he reminds her of her brother. The two main points that i have picked might not seem like the have an impact on society, but when kids that live in a place like the ghettos can relate to Day. Marie Lu purpose of writing this book was to show the readers that judging them by what they look like and how they act can be very wrong. Society today has a really big impact and judging people has gotten worse. We judge people that are rich, poor, or have bad qualities. Marie tries to show us through the book that our world has changed, but it can surely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its tune was heard from the quiet and calm patient rooms, through the long white hallways, and to the comfortable hospital lobby where I stood waiting. I wonder what that sound was? Well, who cares? I've got other things to worry about. It was my first day of volunteering at the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. The first tasks I was assigned were to greet, to help, and to escort visitors to their destination. My shaky hands were clasped together in an attempt to stay calm. Something you would not notice by just looking at me. You would have to look deeper. Literally. I have scoliosis. The definition of scoliosis is the abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. Still in that blank old hospital room, the same stiff hospital bed with the little red button to signal the nurse when I woke up or needed help. I pressed the button and heard Lilly coming down the quiet hallway. The door creaked open slowly and Lilly peaked her head in the room, "Good Morning Noah." She's always so smiley and sunshiney, she's the only nurse like that here. "Ready to get dressed and get some of that delicious breakfast you love so much?" Scotty dies three days later as a result of occlusion, which doctors say would have been prevented had it been recognized earlier. Scotty's mother, Ann Weiss, who is interactive and loves making friends, had ordered a sixteen–dollar cake on Saturday for his son's eighth birthday, which scheduled to take place on a Monday from a taciturn baker whom he left her telephone number. The baker, oblivious of Scotty's accident and demise, makes harassing calls to Scotty's home asking them to pick up their three–day–old cake. The story ends with the baker being rueful and asking for forgiveness for how he treated the Weiss family stating that it was a result of solitude and childlessness. Indeed, one needs to be kind to others as everyone we come across is fighting their battle. The story brings compassion and friendliness to the characters. Because of his quiet reaction, she gives up making friends with him. I threw on the pitch black shirt I had laying beside me and the denim jeans laying on my cold tile floor from last night. Reluctantly, I brushed my hair and then my teeth. Suddenly, chronic pains shot through my lower back and to my abdomen. My head pounding, I realized I hadn't had any water for a few days. Sharp pains all over, I started to feel worse and worse as the clock in the top left corner of my bedroom ticked. I stumbled my way to the kitchen, trying to hold myself up on anything I could grab. I struggled to get a glass out of the cabinet and fill it with water from the sink. After I crawled my way back to my room, I laid on the floor, unable to pull myself up onto the bed. A few seconds went by before I shut my eyes and passed out. Hours later I woke up feeling even worse than I had before. Luckily, my aunt was stuck at home after getting sandwiched between two cars just outside of Taylor. Upon arriving at our house, my aunt decided to stay and take care of me, every hour or so checking my temperature and bringing me a fresh glass of ice water. Thomas and I were practically together for our whole life, we were even born in the same hospital on the same day. We were inseparable and did everything together. When we finished our years at college we decided to go travel. We had always dreamed of it and now we had a chance. So we bought two one way tickets to Ecuador that left in a week. "Did you pack everything you need?" Thomas asked the morning of our flight. "I can 't find my toothbrush, but I can buy one at the airport." I replied, " Hurry, let 's go." We left and drove thirty minutes, practically bouncing in our seats with excitement. When we finally arrived, Thomas parked the car, we unloaded our 50 pound bags, practically ran through security, and barely caught our flight. The next eight hours consisted of eating overly salted peanuts, reading the skymall magazines, and falling asleep after 30 minutes. We awoke to finds ourselves landing at General Rivadeneira Airport in Tachina, Ecuador. Seeing that our belongings were spread out among the area, we frantically gathered them and exited the plane. • 25. Examples Of Confucianism In The True Story Of Ah Q The late nineteenth century to the early twentieth was an important period for China, in which a large number of reformers and revolutionaries, in the hope of changing the old China, struggled to make China powerful and stable. The voice of abandoning Confucianism grew stronger and stronger, which they contended that it was Confucian that hindered the development of Chinese. Just take Lu Xun for example. He argued that Confucianism was the "man–eating manners", which gave birth to those who just cared about themselves without any conscience of protecting their family. Moreover, Lu Xun put forward that China should learn from the Western. Another example is Hu Shi. He extremely called for the Modern Chinese language must be in the place of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prominent character of him was self–deceiving and self–important, which exactly reflected the farmer's ideas at that time. He was not only the symbol of the poor proletarian but also a farmer suppressed by authority. In addition, he did not have a name at all, and the only name he got was deprived by Mr. Zhao. The method that Ah Q most often used was spirit victory. That was kind of expression of self– deceiving. For example, when he was beaten, he comforted himself by using" Son hit his father". Moreover, while other people teased him that he was poor, he argued that my ancestors were richer than yours. His characters, in essence, were devoid of self– awareness. He judged people with his own standard, where anything that not conform to his standard would be wrong. From this novel, Lu Xun seriously criticized the social reality at that time when people were self– deceiving, who always took themselves as the center of the world. The attitude of Lu Xun toward farmers was that on the one hand, he felt sympathetic to them. On the other hand, he hated that they did not fight for themselves. With his sharp pen, he analyzed the reason why the farmers always lag behind others, while showing sympathy to them. Meanwhile, he tempted to use his novel to warn Chinese reformers, although May Fourth movement awakened a part of Chinese people like students, most Chinese peasants were still ignorant and ... Who Is Marie Lu's Legend: Symbolic Archetype Independent Reading Project for Marie Lu's Legend PART V: SYNTHESIS / ALLUSIONS AND SYMBOLS In "Legend," Marie Lu develops her entire plot on one symbolic archetype. This Archetype is Innate Wisdom vs. Educated Stupidity. In Legend, this symbolic archetype shows the relationship between the poor and the rich. The government has total control over the people. Day, from a poor civilian perspective, questions the Republic's motives. With first–hand experience, Day has "innate wisdom". June, on the other hand, a high ranking officer in the military, accepts anything that the Republic does. June has no reason to question the Republic, so she is the character with "educated stupidity". June is unaware of the Republic's secret doings. Day, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government is called "The Republic". The story is told from two perspectives. This makes the plot even more engaging. Marie Lu uses two 15–year–olds named June and Day two narrate the novel. Marie Lu did an incredible job of keeping me entertained. Once I picked up this thrilling book, I read for hours until the book was completed. Legend has a plot like I have never seen before. The way that Lu integrated Day and June into each other's lives was unique and unexpected by me. I didn't know what was happening until the very last chapters of the book. In Legend, Day and June are introduced as stark opposites. Both Day and June have scored a 1500 on "the trial", a government mandated exam taken at age 10. Low scores mean work in the "labor fields" and high scores mean a future holding high school and college, and coincidentally, the poor sectors score lower than the rich areas. Day feels that the government, The Republic, is keeping secrets from the people. Day spends his time intervening in government doings, in hopes to slow them down. Observing the book as a whole, I saw no real problems. One issue that I did have was the speed at which June came to trust Day. As soon as June accesses the database created by her older brother Metias, she wants to do anything she can to help him escape. June is angry with The Republic, and by the end of the book, she falls in love with Day. Other than this, Marie Lu does a great job of creating a gentle transition through the plot. I would highly recommend this book for other young adults because of its engaging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The leather straps feeling coarse underneath the rough skin of my hands, you could tell they were the hands of a manual labourer. The doors to the waiting room loomed ahead, the first sight of anything that brought a smile to my face. Adrenaline rush filled me as I barged past all the familiar faces, reminding me of times back on the field. A group of family members walked around the corner. Anxiously I waited. The memories of my youngest brothers smile. How old would he be now? Would he remember me? The thought of it brought a smile to my face as I sat with luggage in hand. I took out the gold time–piece my father gave me before I left for service. Flipping it thrice in my hands. Fifteen years old, the condition as good as new, apart from a small chip on the circumference between the twelve and the one. One long strand of a golden chain hanging loose and collecting itself in the palm of my left hand. It was a familiar comforting weight. The only possession that I really counted as mine. "The cabs pulled up outside the doorway waiting for you, come out when you're ready." Feelings of expectation and nervousness on meeting my family again flooded every nerve in my body, as I continued to sit and watch others before me. I was one of the lucky ones. Lucky to be intact? Or lucky to return at all. Those that were not so lucky wobbled through the door on crutches, with missing limbs as lasting mementos to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Symptoms And Treatment Of My Childhood Most people would not find weight loss, heat intolerance, and an elevated heart rate in a twelve year–old particularly worrying. Most people, assuming they even noticed these things, might write them off as "growing pains." My mother, however, was not most people. She was a registered nurse, eighteen years in, and she had an inkling of what the symptoms might indicate. I remember feeling concerned that my mother had deemed it necessary to schedule an appointment at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Sitting in the examination room, I felt my nerves heighten as my mother described the seemingly inoffensive symptoms to the physician, who regarded her intently. The subsequent blood test confirmed what my mother had suspected: elevated T3/T4 and suppressed TSH levels, indicating hyperthyroidism. The unknown term frightened me instantly. Sensing my alarm, my endocrinologist explained what hyperthyroidism meant. My thyroid was producing excessive amounts of hormones. She assured me that the condition was manageable, and with daily medication and occasional blood tests, I would be fine. The sincerity in her eyes and the warmth of her voice were all I needed to trust her words. Through the remainder of my childhood, I became very familiar with the Children's Hospital. Spending so much time in the waiting room before appointments yielded the opportunity to observe many other children, both older and younger, many with cases more debilitating than mine. A part of me was saddened that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Short Story : A Wish For Hope "A Wish for Hope" With my bags packed and my phone charged, I set off for Memphis, Tennessee with my cousin and her parents. It was time for Kaylie's annual checkup at St. Jude. As a baby, eighteen years ago, Kaylie was diagnosed with leukemia–a cancer of blood and bone marrow. She overcame the disease after a hard battle, but it left scars. However, she doesn't let anything hold her back from being the kindest and the most genuine person I know. When she asked if I wanted to go with her to Memphis, I thought, "Sure. It'll be a fun road trip with my family and it would be neat to see the hospital." I had no idea what was waiting for me when I arrived. We checked into our hotel and went to a family favorite spot–the Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid. This place was amazing. It is much bigger than any of the stores around here, and it was in a large mirrored glass pyramid. It was the true "sportsman's paradise". It was also very family–centered, which you could easily tell from the restaurant and bowling alley located inside. So we shopped, ate, and bowled (I had a final score of 26, but I had fun getting there). It's in times like those that Kaylie seems to be what we might refer to as "normal". She was in her element, laughing and being around people she loves. That was completely different from the events of the next day. We woke up early and headed down the street to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I cannot put into words my initial reactions. As I walked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Personal Statement : My Trust Every day we put our trust in almost everything around us. Whether it be family members, friends, teachers, or even something as simple as a seatbelt– we trust it. The idea of having trust issues seems to be a common occurrence nowadays. Everything is built on trust. When a person lacks the ability or desire to trust, daily life can even become a challenging task to accomplish. Having complete trust in something is easier said than done, especially when it comes to something you can 't see. Trusting in God is one of the most challenging tasks I have ever come across in my entire life, and I will admit that without any hesitation. God has a plan for every life, and through the struggles of life I have learned to trust in God. During the summer of 2015 my trust in God was put to the test. I was woken up to the sound of my father yelling for me from downstairs. I quickly jumped out of bed and walked to the top of the stairs where I was greeted with the statement of "something terrible has happened." My brain began to scan all of the possible scenarios that could have unfolded to equal the tragic event that has occured, but before I could come to a conclusion my father intervened: "Your cousin was driving drunk last night and hit another car head on, he 's in the ICU as of right now." Keep in mind, growing up I was the closest to my cousin out of anyone in my family. He is what I like to call the brother I never had, and I the sister he never had. He is and still will be the ... Personal Narrative : Personal Experiences In My Life One day after baseball practice me and a couple of friends were messing around, messing around as in: throwing balls around, swinging our bats, throwing are gloves at each other and what not. Just doing things teenagers would do. And then one of my friends from the team was walking over, minding his own business and trying to get through all of us and to his truck, then out of nowhere a bat someone swung came in from out of nowhere and then BAM! It hit my friend right in the mouth! After he got hit in the mouth all of us went silent. He fell to the ground and was quiet until he let out a big moan of pain. We almost immediately got our coaches over there and our head coach washed the blood off of his face, gave him a towel to put pressure on his mouth with, and loaded him up in his truck and drove him to the hospital. We were all there in the waiting room waiting for my friend to come out so we could all go home knowing that he was going to be okay, while we were waiting his mom and dad stormed into the front of the hospital and, with tears running down her face, demanded that she see her son right then. Our coach ended up having to help sit her down because she was so frantic, once she was calmed down, she waited out there like the rest of us, a little while later the doctor came out and said, "your son is going to be fine". We all released a sigh of relief and walked out and visited him, then went home, our friend, however, had to stay in the hospital overnight so they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The office lady said that they were sending her to the hospital right now. So I ran outside and started my car. On my way, I called her dad who was away on a business trip to tell him the news. He was going to be home tomorrow morning. Then I ended the call as I pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. I walked quickly inside the hospital as I made my way to the front desk. "Autumn Smith?" asked the lady standing behind the desk. "Yes. can I go see Bailey? Where is she?" I asked her. "Oh yes, Bailey is in room 116 on level two." She said boredly. • 59. My Best Friend She was the best friend anyone could have, kind, compassionate you know the type. The ones you think will never leave you no matter what always by your side through thick and thin, the one that feels like they're your lost sibling. We were so close for so many years, like sisters. We talked about everything, we shared so much always there for me helping me out the mud if you like, every time I was sad she wouldn't leave me alone until I told her. We used to go on road trips down south then sleep in her ute at the bottom of a waterfall or by a beach, she showed me how to live. She would bring out the best in me. It was a warm summer night we were parked up by Lake Taupo. It was horrible, while I was sleeping this guy came out of the forest where we spent laying looking at the stars moments before. He came out sawed off shotgun in hands, took one shot right at her. I bolted upright and dragged her into her ute and drove to the hospital begging her not to die, police on the phone as he was shooting as I drove off.Sitting in the hospital waiting room was the hardest thing ever not being allowed to just go in and sit with her, having to wait for her to stabilize. I finally decided to go get something to eat. I walked past her room as I did I glanced in to check on her. It was the worst thing to see. Heart monitor flatlining, doctors injecting and doing CPR nurses rushing past with carts. It felt like I was frozen, I broke down right there. Tears gushing, begging her not to die. ... • 61. A High School Story "I'm different because everyone else is not me." This as written by Julian Aguilar, a famous screenwriter for Hollywood films. It was my first day at a real school, preschool doesn't count, and I was starting first grade, since I skipped kindergarten. It wasn't always easy being the youngest in your entire grade, and sometimes, the whole school, but I made it through and even got into GATE. That's what this story is all about. "Are you ready for your first day of school?" my mom asked me. "I sure am!" I said. She asks me if I'm excited and I told her how enthusiastic and anxious I was. When she drives me to my new school, I got more and more pumped. I can hardly wait! As uneasy as I was, though, I was also honored to be the only five year old in first grade. "We're here!" my mom exclaimed as she pulled into a parking lot. There was a sign that said: Ladera Elementary School. "Awesome! I'm not in preschool anymore, I'm an older girl!" I exclaimed. "That's right pumpkin," my mom gave me a huge bear–hug. "Now, let's go meet the principal, shall we?" We went into the office and met the principal, then, the principal , introduced me to my teacher, Mrs. Scott, and some new friends, Cassandra, Skylar, MacKenzie, and Madison. During the time we were in the office, my mom had signed a form that I didn't really pay attention to it, but a few weeks later, she drove me to a place that isn't school, and I got really worried. When You 're A Surgeon When you 're a surgeon, you can usually tell how the day is going to advance from the moment you step into that ER, either trafficking with patients or a couple of stomach flus. Today was not one of those days. Today had not progressed the way any of us planned. Now and then even the smartest people in the world don 't understand why these acts occur, and at times we don 't actually need an explanation, just time. I commenced off the morning with my usual routine: coffee, putting the kids down, and finishing my half eaten bagel with one hand on the wheel. • 71. Narrative Essay : My First Day In High School Your name is Dawn Strider, and it's your first day of school. Your brother went out and got you a brand new dress––no more icky old shirts of his tied around the waist with a cord or one of his old belts to keep it hiked up so you don't trip and fall. Of course, you'd much rather wear pants, but your brother says you've got to look like what you are––that being his perfect little princess. He hasn't even made you do training for almost a week so that your wounds have time to heal. (You've still got to wear a long sleeve dress, though, there are scars that you aren't allowed to let anyone see.) That's a huge privilege in and of itself so you're on cloud nine as you walk down the block to your preschool hand in hand. He drops you off at the door but before you walk into the room, you're met with one more surprise. Your brother reaches into his pocket, takes something out, and kneels down to meet gaze. You tap his hand and look up at him with a question in your eyes and he responds by opening up his hand and fitting a smaller pair of his own sunglasses on your face. You hug him and grin and rush inside the classroom. When you get inside you're met by a sweetly smiling teacher who takes your hand and introduces herself as Ms. Rosa and compliments you on your flowery dress and guides you to your seat. • 73. China 's Nationalism And Isolation From Western Society For thousands of years China has operated dynastically, in a cyclic mode, causing no forward movement or linear progress. China's ethnocentrism and isolation from Western society led to internal disorder. The isochronous nature of the Chinese feudal system eventually led to the demise of the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. This vulnerability provided Western influence allowing for imperialism throughout the country. Students and intellectuals with Westernized educations saw that the political and social turmoil was attributed to a long history of rejection of anything Western. On May 4, 1919, students led a revolt, called the May Fourth Movement, against Confucian culture promoting science, democracy, and anti–imperialism. The May Fourth Movement was a period of total iconoclasm, of complete rejection of past tradition, and of absolute ratification of western ideals resulting in a literary revolution. By exploring Lu Xun's realist writing style and Yu Dafu's romantic writing style, the true function of literature during the May Fourth era is revealed. May Fourth Background: The May Fourth movement occurred as a response to the Chinese government's poor response to the Treaty of Versailles, known as the Shandong problem. The Treaty of Versailles took the rights to the Shandong providence, in China, from Germany and gave them to Japan. When attending the meeting, China came with three requests; first was abolition of all foreign privileges, second was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The Habits Of Our Generations It's Thanksgiving and all of the teenagers are hunkered together at a table motionless, the only thing moving is their eyes over their phone screens. This leads to older generations telling us how lazy and selfish our generation is, to which we always look up from our phones to deny and fight. Though when you think about our generation's generalized tendencies, we are seemingly exactly what older generations describe. Yes we do have those who are lazy and those who are outgoing just like any other generation, but the selfishness and laziness is above average. Too many kids are going out to shop with their parents hard earned money while snapchatting how they've "worked hard for this shopping trip." It is as if we become oblivious just so we can impress others or have others feel that we are "relatable." Though our generation doesn't notice it, we are lazy and selfish as a society. We as a generation are the way we are because of the multitude of enablers that are made available to us. It isn't completely our fault that we come off as selfish and lazy, we have several things to credit for part of our actions. Social media has given us the challenge of showing only the best of ourselves on a daily basis. It puts us in a different world where nothing else matters other than getting that video or shot that will catch people's attention. Today it is realistic to see someone choking to death while being surrounded by people taking videos of them, uncaring of whether they live or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
