The Importance Of Mistreatment And Abuse Of Zoos
On average around 175 million people visit a zoo per year. However, the majority of these people
fail to notice a relative issue that is lying in front of their faces. That these animals within these zoos
are suffering every day from mistreatment and abuse. Most of the society ignores the many factors
that have been revealed to them every time they enter a zoo. Instead, they focus on issues that are
happening now, issues that draw out the media and are on the cover of every newspaper. However,
these animals facing this mistreatment are relevant and do impact society. Every time an animal is
taken from the wild and placed in the captivity of a zoo it impacts the mental health of the animal
and endangers everyone and everything around it. Zoos are to blame for this endangerment, yet so is
the public for overlooking mistreatment such as an early death in animals, mental illness, and being
imported illegally from the wild.
When most of the society thinks of a zoo, they think of family fun and a weekend of their childhood.
However, what society fails to notice is that it appears as though zoos are deathtraps for the animals
living inside of them. Most animals in zoos die earlier than they do in the wild. One reason that
contributes to this early death is for entertainment. For example, according to the article, "Killing
Animals at the Zoo" by Ian Parker reveals "two biology students were scheduled to dissect a young
lion in front of a family audience for a weekend–long event

Channel 7 Essay
Television news exists to inform and entertain the public regarding local, national, and international
news. A variety of news broadcasts are available for all subcultural classes to enable them to be
knowledgeable concerning sport, weather, finance, and general issues from around the world, using
this easily accessible and logical medium. Two of the most well–known services are Channel Seven
and the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC). The Channel Seven Network gains funds from
commercial revenue and concentrates on providing news that is appealing to the general public and
entertaining. High ratings are crucial to Channel Seven as it is privately owned and heavily relies on
the advertisement shown in between news segments. ABC news is owned and financed by the
Australian Government, therefore high ratings are not relied on and their focus is on providing
worldwide news with accomplished facts. These factors affect the content and perspective, which
are tailored to specific target audiences. Each news source has a distinct audience based on the
variation of the purpose, structure, style, and language to accommodate the requirements of the
Australian population. (do you want me to reference the survey?) The intended audience and

Channel Seven is targeted at youth and working families which is why providing local and easily

unbiased and advanced manner. The news stations are equally as effective at catering for the needs
of their individual audiences. As a teenage Australian, Seven News is best suited to me as it acts as
both a form of entertainment and a competent way to keep updated in the world of

Behind the Zoo
What makes an object worth collecting? Curiosity is an important aspect of collecting. With the
spread of colonies, there was an affinity to discover the unknown, or rather, the different. The
nineteenth century paved the way for many sponsored expedition, looking for curios. Found object;
vases, pots and pans, tools of everyday use, gained an importance, as curios. Nature has captivated
the human cognizance since man first acquired tools, it would only be natural for the curiosity to
extend to the subject of new flora and fauna. By means of collecting it is possible to establish a
personal identity or characterize the other and often identifying this other as a conquest.
This idea of conquest can be analyzed in the manner in which collection is presented, making
presenting as important an aspect as the collection itself.
The oldest zoological collection was a transportable one which contained every known species,
however only two of each animal, one male and one female, collected by Noah as recounted in
Genesis. Not does Noah get credit for conceptualizing the zoo, but as highlighted by John Elsner
and Roger Cardinal's introduction in The Cultures of Collecting, he was also the first collector.
Granted it was under the request of a higher power, but in some way every collection emphasizes a
purpose or some secret desire. While we can choose to believe this to be true or not, the lesson to be
taken here is that collections can be thrust on its collector. Two of the

Aniamls are Dangerous Essay
The idea of a zoo is a noble idea. The objective of the zoo is to be a sanctuary where animals live in
safety from dangers such as poachers and diseases. This wildlife refuge prevents animals from going
extinct, and new generations of people can learn about these animals and appreciate them. Due to
human shortcomings, some zoos are concrete prisons or execution chambers. The video, "Captive
Animal Misery in European Zoos", provided by Born Free Foundation on Youtube.com that is
published on 12th January 2012 shows animals in poor living conditions. In that video, there is an
elephant in a small metallic enclosure. In fact, there are no plants or anything that would be in the

Or that zoos and aquariums keep a supply of antacids on hand because so many captive dolphins
develop ulcers" (Winders)? Costa Rica closes down those zoos because the facilities cannot take
care of those animals properly, thus those animals would be healthier in the wild. The animals being
healthy and happy is what important. Costa Rica sets an example on how governments should act if
the zoos' actions are not beneficial to animals. Animals are not safe in zoos. Abigail Hauslohner,
who wrote the article "Giraffe Suicide? Bear Riot? It's a Zoo Unlike Any Other" for the Washington
Post, reveals that animals are dying in the Giza Zoo in Egypt. According to the article, a young
giraffe strangle herself to death from a wire. Animals under the supervision of people should not be
able to hurt or kill themselves. Another horrifying truth in "Giraffe Suicide? Bear Riot? It's a Zoo
Unlike Any Other" is that zookeepers kill camels for the purpose of selling the meat for profit.
Those zookeepers have no right to kill those camels. The purpose for the camels is to educate the
public. Those two examples are not the only tragedies. "...three black bears died in a single night
under mysterious circumstances" (Hauslohner). This example shows that zoos need to be better
monitor. The caretakers are more of a threat than anything else for those creatures. Aquariums are
zoos that contain fish and other sea creatures. The article, "Controversial Plan to

Summary Of The Influencing Machine
In 'The Influencing Machine: Brooke Gladstone on the Media', media analyst and journalist, Brooke
Gladstone, famously argues:
There is a long–standing debate in the media biz over whether the news outlets should give the
public what it wants, or what it needs. This debate presupposes that the media execs actually know
what it wants or needs. And that there is actually a unitary 'public.'
(Gladstone 2011)
The media specialises in providing information, or 'news', to the public. The terms of public 'wants'
and public 'needs' create polarising views from both the media and the audience as both parties have
different ideas on the importance of each. However, Gladstone raises the more important question of
whether there is even a 'unitary public' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And that there is actually a unitary "public."' She makes a fair point, because how can every single
person in the entire world be classified under the category 'general public'? People automatically fall
under demographics such as age and gender, which undoubtedly affect their interest levels for
different stories (Hamilton 2011, p. 84). There are also other factors such as readers' locations, jobs,
cultures and hobbies which all come into play when trying to determine what may interest someone.
'Not everything is interesting to everyone and news services choose stories on the basis of their
interest to their particular audience' (Alysen 2012, pp. 24–42). Therefore, no one news publication

What Qualities Make Our Life Worth Value?
What qualities make our life worth value? This question usually arises in any discussion regarding
animal ethics. It is impossible to answer this question, however, because no one other then God will
definitively even know the exact qualities that make our lives valuable. All we can do is guess what
parts of us give us higher value over other creatures that inhabit our planet. So we let our
perceptions and pre–conceived notions about animals dictate how we treat them. Everyone
consciously or subconsciously ranks living creatures and attributes value to them. The way we often
do this is we set ourselves as a benchmark. Then we compare ourselves to them and look for
similarities. The more similar they are to us the more value the must have. Right? The flaw in this
philosophy other than the fact that we have other than we having no clue if this is a correct way to
assess a living being's value is that as we learn more about animals and other living creatures, we
learn that our previous connived notions about them are in fact untrue. We commonly call people
unintelligent pigs even though we now know that pigs are smarter than dogs. We have made the bald
eagle our countries national bird because we assumed that something so majestic must be honorable
denizen of the sky when bald eagles are in actuality scavengers and bullies. We are scared to swim
in the ocean due to our fear of sharks when cows kill more people annually. These preconceived
notions have allowed us to bypass

UMAT Assessment Essay
As a current student striving to be accepted into medicine I will be required to undertake the UMAT
examination. I have always been interested in the relevance of the examination, how it is perceived
by people and whether students are the key people it 'serves'. To gain a basic understanding of the
purpose of the UMAT I conducted preliminary research, utilising the ACER (Australian Council for
Educational Research) website, who were the developers and write the examination every year. I
obtained sources through the use of google scholar to locate relevant and highly reliable sources.
The majority of my sources were secondary obtained from websites, journals and articles. I had
emailed multiple professionals to conduct interviews but received no responses, hence, I was unable

Should Zoos Banned
The majority of the people in the US have visited a zoo and seen the many creatures within the
walls. But is this right to do? To capture animals, injured or not from their natural habitat and
confine them to small limited area to which they begin to lose their natural instincts? An article
written by Alison Benjamin and Toby Moses named "Should Zoos be Banned?" goes into detail
about their opinions on zoosa and whether or not zoos should stay or be banned. Their article argues
both point, the pros of staying by Benjamin and the cons of banning by Moses. A few key points
they point out are: the educational purpose, animal behavior, breeding and human enjoyment.
Benjamin starts the article off arguing that zoos are cruel places that animals don't need to be in. She
starts her section off by mentioning the shooting of the gorilla Harambe in the Cincinnati zoo. She
mentions how the underlying problem in the shooting was that the gorilla was locked up in the first
place. She continues on with that kids may see zoo's enjoyable because they can get close to the
animals they see on TV, but that they are just a relic of the Victorian age and that we should stick to
viewing distinctive animals in the comfort of our homes on our TV's. Benjamin then pulls out a
secret that's been hiding under the rug if you would about zoos. She talks about how they prescribe
Prozac to some of the animals. Prozac is an drug used to treat depression, OCD and panic disorders.
This was a good use

Ethical Implications Of Keeping Animals In Captivity
A visit to the zoo is often one of the most enthralling and entertaining things for children and adults
alike; however, most individuals do not realize the ethical implications of holding animals in
captivity for entertainment purposes. Zoos originated as an organization that held animals in
captivity for viewing pleasure, but now claim to have evolved to become an educational and
conservation institution. Despite zoo's claims that they ultimately serve as a viable education,
economic, and conservation resource, there is overwhelming evidence that zoo animals are treated
cruelly while in captivity. The cruelty zoo animals undergo is largely unethical and presents a need
to alter zoos in order to reduce animal suffering.
The current paper addresses the need for zoos to be altered in ways that will increase soo animals'
well–being. In this paper I will describe the ways in which zoos are considered an important

Apart from the obvious physical limitations on animals in captivity, there are also varied
psychological effects such as "stress", caused by the placement of animals are placed in a captive or
unfamiliar environment. The American Psychological Association (APA) defines stress as "the
pattern of specific and nonspecific responses an organism makes to stimulus events that disturb its
equilibrium and tax or exceed its ability to cope" (Gerrig and Zimbardo), or in other terms, stress
can be seen as an organism's ability to adapt to it's surroundings. If an organism is subjected to
excessive or chronic stress, it may experience many detrimental side effects, of both physical and
psychological nature. These side effects cause animals to be prone to suffering, introducing an
ethical dilemma in keeping animals in captivity for either entertainment or conservation purposes.
The effects of stress can be observed through the experiments involving fecal glucocorticoids and

Three Training Methods To Play AFL Football
AFL AFL is a sport which involves two teams trying to outscore one another in order to win. AFL is
a very fast paced game, which involves periods of speed, agility and skill. There are 18 players on
the field and up to 7 on the interchange bench, for each team. To play AFL football players must be
aerobically fit, fast, agile, and be able to be strong enough to break the other teams tackles. Identify
three training methods that would benefit an athlete in your chosen sport: – To be aerobically fit,
fast, agile and strong you must train to be all four. To get the best results you must do continuous
training at a low to high intensity (70–85% of maximum heart rate) to slowly build up your aerobic
fitness, also to help with the aerobic fitness is the FITT principle (Frequency, Intensity, Time and the
Type of exercise that you are doing). Fartlek training is also a great way to improve aerobic fitness.

players can do specific agility courses that will progress agility capability. – Finally to improve
strength players can do specific weight circuit training and resistance training, to progressively
overload your body start adding in more repetitions and sets to make it more difficult. – Also to help
develop all of these skills you can do some flexibility training. Analyse why you have chosen the
training methods above and how/why they benefit the athletes in that sport: – Continuous training
helps in AFL to build up aerobic capacity, this means that you will be able to run further, quicker
and with less fatigue, this helps players out run their opponents and to get the upper hand on

Adelaide Zoo: Siamangs, Baboons, Orang-U
In this practical the aim was to go to the Adelaide Zoo and investigate whether a smaller sized
enclosure results in less active animal behaviour. The hypothesis is that if animals have a smaller
sized enclosure it results in less active animal behaviour. The group of animals chosen to study was
primates and the particular species are; Siamangs, Baboons, Orang–utans and Gibbons. These
animals were chosen because they all have different enclosure sizes so their behaviour can be
recorded and then compared. The practical involved a particular primate being observed and their
behaviour being recorded every minute, for fifteen minutes. Then the next animal was observed and
the process was repeated for all four primates, twice. The independent variables

The Zoo Controversy Essay
Everybody's been to the zoo; they've either enjoyed a dolphin show, or fed the penguins. Zoos have
been a part of American culture for centuries. At first, a zoo could be seen as nothing more than a
jail cell for animals, but today, zoos are being completely transformed. What used to be confined
cages are now being revolutionized into acres of land for different species to reside in. The
opponents of zoos feel that they are inhumane and harmful to animals. However, zoos are beneficial
for several different reasons, including, animal conservation and captive breeding, scientific studies,
healthcare, and education. Daniel Martin, writer for mailonline.com, wrote an article about Angela
Smith who works as a Labor's Charities Minister. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently, animals in zoos are kept in well–clean, vast areas of land where they are free to roam
around in a habitat where they feel comfortable. According to a TIME Magazine article, The San
Diego Zoo spent 3.5 million dollars to construct a mock forest for five bears (Gibbs). The exhibit
includes trees, a waterfall, and even an electronic honey dispenser. According to the article, "[w]hen
the lush exhibit opened this summer, zoogoers loved it, and so did the bears. They shredded the trees
and rolled in the sod," (Gibbs). Instead of the small cages and foul odors that most people associate
with zoos, many zoos spend a large sum of their budget on keeping their facilities pristine. Animal
habitats are now bigger than ever, and more importantly, cleaned multiple times a day, along with
the animals' regular feedings. This further proves that zoos have made drastic improvements over
the introductory zoos most people associate with. Contrary to what Smith believes, zoos are actually
very beneficial for animals, one of the main reasons being conservation of species in zoos. Since
their beginning in Europe in the mid–19th century, zoos have improved drastically; back then, zoos
were merely for entertainment, where as now zoo owners are more aware and concerned with the
welfare of their animals (Masci). With the endangered species list rising every year, it is imperative
that scientists remain conscious of the number of

Why Did Bushrangers Become An Outlaw
Bushrangers "The definition of a Bushranger is an outlaw living in the bush" (Collins English
Dictionary – Complete & Unabridged, 2012).
The first type of bushranger was convicts from the first fleet who fled the colony for freedom. The
second types of bushranger were those who chose to become an outlaw. Within this essay I will
highlight the reasons why a bushranger became an outlaw by explaining the lifestyle of the early
Australian settlement and how they shaped Australian's Colonial Identity and became an important
part of Australian history.
"The first settlement in Sydney cove was described as a prison surrounded by bush and sea"
(Bushrangers Hero, Victims or Villains, Jill Bruce, 2003). At first food was plentiful but a year later
food stock decreased, especially to the food supply to the convicts. The shortages of food lead to
stealing and severe consequences of being tortured and even death occurred. Those that escaped it
were a desperate attempt for freedom. Although they found that the bush was a wild and strange
place inhabited by natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For most of the convicts they had no choice but to become an outlaw to survive in Australians harsh
climates. Most of the uneducated convicts could understand why bushrangers chose to be outlaws
and they often attracted sympathy and hero status by those convicts who had no courage to stand up
against the unjust law and become bushrangers themselves. The bushranger symbolised freedom and
the dislike of authority. They made those in power, such as the police, the governing bodies and
Britan look stupid. Bushrangers in history have inspired poetry, ballards, songs and plays that have
been told for centuries from generation to generation in Australia. Bushrangers had the reputation to
fight what they believed in before surrender. A popular verse from the wild colonial boy illustrates

Legal affects Metropol Zoo because to run a zoo, it needs to follow the law set by government. One
of the rules that it has to comply is to operate the zoo under the Zoo Licensing Act of 1981. This
regulation is set to protect animals in the zoo by providing suitable living environment, food, living
quarters, and medical care as the basic requirement for all zoos (Born Free 2012). Because of this
law, Metropol Zoo cost of running is high and they can't cut it down even when the funds are low
because their zoo license will be withdrawn if the animals basic needs are not met.
Porter's Five Forces
There are four key forces from Porter's five forces that impact Metropol Zoo's business and its
future performance.
In terms of threat of new competition, Metropol Zoo has to face both direct and indirect
competition. There are more than 150 zoos in United Kingdom that can provide the similar facilities
and environment for wild animals and also customer convenience (UK Zoo Regional List 2008).
Indirect competitors are safaris, theme parks and adventure parks within an hour's travel time of the

personal and great experience for customers as they provide a more interactive, exciting and value
for money experience.
The second factor from Porter's five forces that affects Metropol Zoo is threat of substitute products

ultural institutions, like the cultures that foster them, evolve over time. Zoos & Aquariums, as well
as museums, were established from private collections and the human urge to keepsake the different,
the extraordinary, the exotic. The human species has evolved to use its dominion over other species
to its benefit. The acquisition of animals as collectible has always been more fascinating and
exciting than natural history objects. This is in part because wild life is less common, difficult to
acquire and more costly to maintain. Keeping living animals has been the ultimate trophy for many
collectors of the elite. Collections brought a microcosm of reality to the homeland. The concept of
the natural history museum, zoos and aquariums has undergone great changes over the past decades;
shifting from private collections to public displays. In the following text, I will discuss a brief

The Mistreatment Of Animals In Zoos
Every year almost 175 million people visit a zoo, yet the mistreatment of animals in zoos goes
almost completely unnoticed. This mistreatment is constantly swept under the rug by issues that
society deems more relevant or impact us more. For example, issues like climate change receive
more attention. However, this mistreatment is relevant and is constantly impacting society. These
animals that are left malnourished, fatigued, and constantly fighting bacterial infections, are
important. Every time an animal is pulled from the wild and put into captivity it impacts the mental
health of the animal and endangers everyone and everything around it. Zoos are to blame for this
endangerment, yet so is the public for overlooking mistreatment such as enclosures that are too
small, surplus animals, and mental illness in animals.
Zoos are many things. It can be a place for family fun and a good place to visit over the weekend,
yet there are so many things going on inside zoos that the public fails to notice. For example, the
article "10 Facts about Zoos" by CAPS discusses the lack of enclosure space and states, "Tigers and
lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild. Polar bears have one
million times less space." This reveals that animals in zoos are placed in enclosures that are way too
small for them and not even remotely close to what they experience in the wild. "Elephants are used

While doing so, he gave them some advice. "Jerrit mentioned that this was a Shadoch raiding party.
They are a brutal and very dangerous people. We rarely see them in Emradon and it is odd that the
path Dirac found leads to the southeast. The Shadoch do hire out as mercenaries, and they appear to
have been sent to attack us so it may have been a plot hatched by Stenland. We have not been on

them."
Each of the children armed themselves with hunting daggers from the pile of supplies. Philip also
picked up a bow, similar to the one he had been using for practicing, and a quiver of arrows. When
they were ready, Sarah asked Clair to kneel and they were able to get Jerrit up on her and secure him
with a length of rope. Petrin then slowly led Clair with her inert load, up the hill. The last the
children saw of them, they were disappearing over the crest of the hill at the road.

Ruth Harkness: The Lady And The Panda
My husband, Bill and I were opposites, but we fit perfectly. I had been with Bill for ten years and
could not believe the love of my life was gone. When my husband bill died I received a relatively
small inheritance. I received about $20,000, which was not an unpleasant amount in 1936, but
wouldn't last more than a year for a fifth avenue address. This was the last thing that I would spend
time dwelling on. My husband decided to go on the expedition with four men with dreams of
capturing the giant panda. Though they deserted him long before he passed. I decided that I wouldn't
leave Bill's mission incomplete– I would pick it up and carry it to victory. In my lifetime several

of mind that I have never had before, and a calmness that is a great relief. I began to worry about
how we were going to keep the panda alive, etc. so I began to think that a baby panda instead of an
adult was a good solution. Though, it would be hard enough to find a panda, a baby panda would be
impossible to find. "I was told that Western China was no place for a lone white women– especially
a woman with no experience in business or traveling. I did not believe it. I was also warned of the
present possibility of running into bandits in the interior of Szechwan and reminded that Bill had
been compelled to run back. I had done too much to admit defeat before I started." I soon began to
discard my Western ways. My American clothes were left behind in Shanghai. My Shanghai tailor
fashioned for me loose–cut, boxy jackets and matching trousers made out of blue cloth and coolies
wore. I was hoping to forget all things Western and absorb all things Chinese. Just miles out of

On average about 175 million people visit a zoo per year. However, the majority of these people fail
to notice a relative issue that is lying in front of their faces. That these animals within these zoos are
suffering every day from mistreatment and abuse. Most of the society ignores the many factors that
are displayed out in front of them every time they enter a zoo. Instead, society focuses in on issues
that are happening right now, the issues that draw out the media and are on the cover of every
newspaper. However, these animals facing this mistreatment are relevant and do impact society.
Every time an animal is taken from the wild and placed in the captivity of a zoo it impacts the
mental health of the animal and endangers everyone and everything around it. Zoos are to blame for
this endangerment, yet so is the public for overlooking mistreatment such as an early death in
animals, mental illness, and being imported illegally from the wild.
When most of the society thinks of a zoo, they think of family fun and a weekend of their childhood.
However, what society fails to notice is that zoos are a deathtrap for the animals living inside of
them. Most animals in zoos die much earlier than they do in the wild. One factor that causes this
early death is entertainment for the visitors. For example, according to the article, "Killing Animals
at the Zoo" by Ian Parker reveals "two biology students were scheduled to dissect a young lion in
front of a family audience for a

Essay on Prisoners Without Choice
Prisoners without Choice
When people go on a trip to the zoo, it can be assumed that they do not think about much more than
what they can see. Signals that make zoos unfair and sometimes unbearable for the captive animals
are not visible to most spectators. This essay will explain how zoos are unjust and should not be
supported. Animals should not be held captive due their negative behavioral changes, lack of natural
habitat and the zoos failure to effectively preserve endangered species.
Even though zoos try to imitate the natural habitat of each animal, the area for the zoo might not be
able to support the animals needed environment. When visiting a zoo many people fail to notice that
the animals have living areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When introduced with stress animals act strangely, and their actions are visible to zoo visitors, but
viewers are not aware of why they are doing these things. According to PETA (People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals), when animals pace from side to side, walk in circles, lick their bars,
roll their heads, and rock back and forth, they are under severe stress. Most captive animals also
perform acts of self mutilation, and eat their own feces. There are even some cases of stillbirths
caused by stressful conditions. Animals who naturally live in large herds should not be housed
alone, and solitary animals should not be kept in groups. These situations also create unhappiness in
captive animals. Zoo animals living under anxiety and tension also add to the difficulties of
conserving species.
Zoos claim to conserve species, but they frequently fall short on this promise. The zoo industry
rationalizes the caging and breeding of animals by claiming that zoos enhance conservation efforts,
but the facts do not back up this claim. According to a joint report by the World Society for the
Protection of Animals and the Born Free Foundation, "with the best will in the world, and even with
all their combined resources, zoos cannot hope to save more than a few of the animal species that
are doomed to become extinct within the next decade" (Laws). According to PETA, reintroductions

Zoos Are Inhumane
Zoos Are Inhumane Zoos across the world claim to be safe, suitable homes that replicate habitats of
animals that are usually found in the wild. However, there is no possible way for wild habitats to be
replicated well enough for animals in captivity to thrive, animals are often separated and withheld
from living as they would in the wild. Despite their argument of being educational for visitors, the
only thing they are teaching the public is that it is ok to take animals out of the wild and lock them
up for their own enjoyment. Regardless of these claims, zoos are inhumane. The first reason that
zoos are inhumane is because while in confinement, animals' needs are rarely met. In fact, often
times these life altering changes made in captivity can have tremendously destructive effects on the
animals. Birds' wings may be clipped so that they cannot fly, aquatic animals often go without
adequate water, and many animals who naturally live in large herds or family groups are kept alone
or, at most, in pairs. Natural hunting and mating behaviors are virtually eliminated by regulating
feeding and breeding regimens. Animals are closely confined, lack privacy, and have little
opportunity for mental stimulation or physical exercise. These conditions often result in abnormal
and self–destructive behavior, known as "zoochosis." (PETA 9) By placing these animals in
unsuitable environments, they are experiencing mental and physical abuse. Moreover, their
behaviors are being reformed in order to even be able to survive in such terrible conditions,
therefore, altering future generations of these animals. So, not only are zoos changing these animals
to conform to their artificial surroundings, but they are also disturbing the natural instincts of the
species in order to survive in captivity. As mentioned by the Humane Society of the United States,
"Inhumane conditions teach children the wrong message, seeming to condone indifference. Zoos
should educate about how animals live in the wild, and help preserve them there." (The Humane
Society of the United States 8). While zoos often try and replicate the natural habitats that these
animals live in, they cannot be successfully duplicated, therefore wrongly educating children

Zoos On Society's Impact On Animals And Society
Imagine seeing the stripes of a zebra and wondering whether it's a white animal or a black animal.
Imagine seeing for the first time, the long, long neck and patchwork orange of a giraffe. It's a sight
to behold, and one you may not ever see within mere feet of you, unless you were at a zoo. The
world's most beautiful and unique animals are a treasure that draws crowds. The beauty and
intricacies of the thousands of species of animals are not to be taken for granted. They are to be
observed, studied, admired and understood. Humans have a natural curiosity and desire to learn
about animals. According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), about half the world's
population visits a zoo or aquarium each year. This is no surprise. Zoos are positively impacting the
animals and society.
Zoos impact society through education. The public is exposed to a myriad of species of mammals,
reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds on this planet and they are able to learn about all the unique
creatures through observing them and reading the signs by their exhibits. Zoo attendees have the
opportunity to learn about protecting animals and keeping endangered species alive, as well as
raising awareness of the creatures on our planet. For all these reasons, it's clear that zoos are very
beneficial.
For children, zoos offer hands–on activities such as helping to feed the animals and volunteering
during demonstrations, all to help engage the children in learning. Many zoos offer a "Talk with

Pros And Cons Of Animals In Entertainment
Christian Dominguez–Pineda
Mr. Young
Zoology
11 December, 2017
Animals in entertainment
Animals in entertainment environments has been a controversial topic for years. The thought of
taking an animal out of their environment and into a zoo captive is very upsetting to some people;
others see animal captivity as a need to study and see the animals up–close in an environment, to
entertain our minds of the animals in our planet.
The animals that are brought into zoos or other entertainment places for animal viewings have been
taken from their families and natural habitat which is the most important thing to an animal. The
sudden change of habitat can have a very bad effect on an animal, "some animals develop a
condition called zoochosis. The animal is seen swaying back in forth in a state of oblivion." Not
only is this developed as they enter into a new habitat but it can also be caused by the certain
antidepressants like Prozac. Animals living in their habitat do not get to choose who they mate with,
they are simply given a partner to mate with. Most of the births by the animals are offspring and can
be legally sold to other zoos. The practice of artificially inseminated animals can often lead to
offspring's, miscarriages, death at birth or rejection of their young.
Another focus of cons in entertainment is circuses. The animals are subject to do tricks for the
audience's entertainment. The animals are kept in small cages and travel all over the place for
performances. Most of the techniques in circuses to train an animal involves whipping, beating,
hurting an animal to behave and perform tricks. Because of this behavior towards the animals, the
environment at a circus is generally very sketchy. You never know when a lion can be tired of
performing and decide to go on a rampage in a circus towards the audience. Circuses carry a variety
of animals from lions, tigers, monkeys, to even elephants. The purpose of a circus is to entertain,
there is no learning involved in the audience's experience. Audiences still support circuses and their
many horrific behaviors towards the animals because they like to see what the animals can do. Most
of the audience is not very aware of what happens to an animal in the

Animal Isolation In Zoos
The zoo has been a timeless attraction that has served as a place for people to gather and ponder in
wonder at vast wildlife from every corner of the world. Every year millions of people go to
aquariums, and zoos to spectate on these happy go loving pandas, monkeys, dolphins and the rest of
the creature on the never ending animal list. Little do people know that they are witnessing firsthand
the imprisonment and inhumane treatment of innocent animals; these creatures are exposed to
overwhelming isolation, a shortened life span and in the rare occasion they are released back to the
wild they no longer have natural instinct to help them survive. Isolation, just like humans animals
are living creatures who require interaction with their own kind. Wild animals commonly live in
groups whether it be a pride of lions, pack of wolves or a pod of whales. One example in particular
is elephants, "elephants naturally live within large family groups and are one of the most socially
complex animals outside of man. Yet in zoos they are kept either alone or with only one or two other
unrelated elephants" (" Los Angeles Times," para. 6). As if taking them out of their natural habitat
was not enough zoos seclude animals from their families and place them in exhibits with complete
strangers leaving them feeling isolated and lonely. As a result of doing this animals like elephants
who form a deep bond with their family and live in a strong matriarchal society of relatives that
often consists

The Mining Industry in South Australia
Mining industry has been the anchor of South Australia's economy and, benefits it has provided
outweigh whichever associated costs. As developed by the South Australian State Government
(2013), "realising the benefits of the mining boom for all" is one of the seven strategic priorities to
secure the state's future. Mining is an important industry in South Australia because it has been a
major source of minerals for the high demand in Australia and many countries (Flinders Ranges
Research n.d.). This industry plays a vital part in advantaging the state in terms of economic –
profits and job opportunities; social – more skilled workers and population growth in the outback;

In addition, planned mine expansion projects will contribute to expanding the population size in
remote areas. For evidence extracted from iMINCO (2013), the Adelaide Hills area will benefit from
the economic advantage in Adelaide by means of future construction and permanent mining jobs, as
there is potential for hundreds of new highly–paid households in the mining industry.
On the other hand, mining industry has industrialised suburban areas by way of polluting the
countryside. It has been confirmed by Kelly (2013) that greenhouse gas emissions is a major impact
from massive coal mining developments and coal seam gas. Nevertheless, environmental concerns
and actions have been taken – sand mining terminated its operation at Whiskey Swamp over five
years ago; ODT Australis Company undertook to rehabilitate the site by demolishing constructions
and reseeding the land according to Australian Mining (2013). Moreover, South Australia gained 20
per cent of jobs growth in regional areas which produce coal due to actions on cutting pollution as
mentioned by the Australian Conversation Foundation (2010).
Furthermore, South Australia's mining industry also provides cultural advantages to the state; it
removes the gender and cultural barriers in the working culture today. For instance, an effective
indigenous employment program is run at Thiess and OZ mining sites, which accepts applicants
from nearby communities,

Essay on Should Animals Be Kept in the Zoo?
Animals play an important role of human life. Wild animal is a kind that normally lives in the wild,
for example: elephants, tigers, rhinos and many others. They live in the wild with spacious and
natural environment, however many humans kept them in the zoo, as an attraction for the sake of the
money. They didn't think of the wild animals habitat, and there are some problems arise from
keeping them in cages. The shock of being in captivity would depress the animals; they would even
act hysterically and might hurt people near them. And it is not the animal to be fault. There are three
main reasons why wild animals should not be kept in the zoos: Firstly, the ecosystem became
unbalanced. If the humans kept the wild animals in the zoo, they ... Show more content on

Wild animals would not be wild anymore; the humans have tamed them. Their natural behavior will
change. Some people agree that animals should be kept in the zoo. They said it would be safer for
the animals and they won't be extinct. The amount of possibilities of them dying, shot by hunters or
any other reason, still higher than the chances of their survival. Food and shelter are provided,
medicine, and their breeding is being controlled. And many of the wild animals in zoos are ones that
are on the endangered list as their amounts are rapidly diminishing. Letting them loose and returning
them to the wild is not necessarily a safe option. (Mylot, 2007) In fact, zoo can be one of the
educational studies for children and people who are interested with animals. Zoo is the only place
that we can have an opportunity to see animal's life really close and sometimes we can touch them.
Zoos also provide lots of information about certain animals, children can have chance to get out of
the classroom and learn so they can see natural beauty from different species of animals. Even
children can see them from discovery channel but that's really different if you see animal in real
world, for an example, if you see crocodile, snake or shark in the movie, maybe you won't afraid
than you see the real one. According to Tudge, (1992, p.56) Zoos are the place where people can
study animals and their habitat, even scientist don't need to go

A Research On Technology Management
Technology Management It is the innovation in the working environment permits organizations to
grow rapidly and effectively. Business innovation, for example, video conferencing, interpersonal
organizations and virtual office innovation has evacuated work environment limits that beforehand
constrained business development. With business innovation, organizations can focus on a more
extensive client base and develop to larger amounts. Office innovation spares times by accelerating
the work process. Computerized documenting frameworks spare space, paper and printing costs.
The utilization of computerised systems like robots permit remedies to be made in a flash. Assets

industry. Baxter was created by Adelaide–born Rodney Brooks in 2012. Baxter is an answer for

Persuasive Essay On Endangered Animals
Thousands of people have probably seen a video or read an article about an animal being tortured
then killed in the wild by a poacher. The videos are exceedingly graphic and the pictures used in
articles aren't any better. Animals aren't just being killed, but their natural habitat are being chopped
and burned down. The poaching and destruction of their natural habitat has left hundred maybe
thousands of animals extinct and more are going extinct every single day. To help the animals from
going extinct there are two solutions that could help them. One is to keep them in captivity at zoos
where they will be cared for and the second is to keep them in the wild, but have them supervised.
With deforestation and poaching has led animals to extinction. To solve the problem the animals
should be held in captivity because the zoos will help with the breeding of species, they won't have
to fight for territory, and they won't have the problem of being killed. Then when the species is
ready to be released they will be sent back to the wild and thrive and live with other like them.
First let's start with how zoos can help with breeding. There are dozens of zoos who specialize with
captive breeding that "aims to manage the breeding of specific endangered species in order to help
maintain healthy and self–sustaining populations that are both genetically diverse and
demographically stable." There is proof that this has worked and have sent back the animals into the
wild. "According to the

Animal Entertainment Have you ever been to a circus or a zoo? Almost everyone has been to a zoo
or seen animals act on television. You may have watched animals act silly and do tricks, but do you
know what happens behind the scenes? Those animals are mistreated and beaten just so they can
learn to perform a certain task in front of people for shows. Animals should not be used as
entertainment because of the cruelty that follows. Animals are not actors, they belong in the wild
with their families. "Thousands of animals are forced to perform silly and confusing tricks under the
threat of physical punishment" according to PETA website. " Animals Are NOT Ours To Eat, Wear,
Experiment on, Use for Entertainment, or Abuse in Any Other Way." In circus`, often elephants
perform tricks like balancing on their head, sitting on a platform, balancing on a platform and other
"cool" tricks. While training an elephant, trainers use electric prods, bullhooks and blow torches to
get the animal to do what the trainer wants. Also, when tigers fail to learn or refuse to perform a
trick they are often starved of food and not given water as punishment. Many people own a dog, so
would it be okay for someone to beat and punish their dog to get them to sit? Lions, tigers, and
elephants are no different. Animals attend multiple abusive training practices a day which causes
pain and stress and gives the animals no value or right in their life. Zoo`s on the other hand are
prisons to hundreds and thousands of animals just for the enjoyment of paying visitors. These
animals lose control of their lives and aren't able to fulfill their full potential. Some animals who
should be living alone are caged with others and often, an animal`s predator is right next door.
Sometimes zoos teach animals tricks for shows, but as an animal, their brains don't work like ours,
and are beaten when they either don't do the trick right or won't do it. Often you may see an ad in the
paper or a commercial on tv about an upcoming show or circus, and the animals are doing tricks and
people are smiling, this shows people that the animals and people are having fun and they should
support it. This

Persuasive Essay On Animal Cruelty
Shelby Ellwanger English 10 Honors Mrs. Kirkpatrick 30 November 2017 Animal Jail Imagine a
baby tiger running around the savannah. He looks like he is having a blast, being able to roam free.
Suddenly, a man comes out of nowhere and captures the tiger and puts him in a cage in the back of a
van. A few days later the tiger is released into a new unfamiliar habitat with walls blocking him off
from the rest of the world. That is where the tiger will spend the rest of his life. This is called animal
captivity. Places like zoos, amusement parks, circuses, and aquariums capture animals from the wild
so they can make money off of people that pay to see these animals. Wild animals do not belong in
cages. They belong in the wild where they can't be restricted. They deserve to run free, just like
humans do. Elephants are one of the worst treated animals in zoos and circuses. Their life spans are
dramatically shorter than elephants who live in the wild. Out of 321 elephants that are/were being
held captive, at least half of them were dead by the age of 23, while elephants living in the wild can
live up to 60 years. "[T]he decades long effort by zoos to preserve and protect elephants is failing,
exacerbated by substandard conditions and denial of mounting scientific evidence that most
elephants do not thrive in captivity," (Seattle Times). Dr. Bekoff, the former University of Colorado

Beach selected: Glenelg beach
History: According to Glenelg SA (2015), Glenelg beach is only 12km from the centre of Adelaide,
Glenelg is a pleasing entertaining beach resort set amongst the sandy shores of the bay of Holdfast.
In 1836, Glenelg was the site of South Australia's original mainland settlement. Processes that affect
Glenelg Beach:
There are multiple factors that affect Glenelg beach and other Adelaide beaches.
The drift of sand that is going north is created by the winds and waves. Although, sand can move in
different wind conditions. This sand movement is also known as a littoral drift. Big quantities of
sand is eroded due to the cause of considerable damage to beach, dune and nearshore areas because
of a coastal storm. Therefore, Glenelg beach cannot be considered stable just like other Adelaide
beaches. Before the settlement of the Europeans, Glenelg beach had been withheld by costal dune
erosion. Although due to the subsequent development occurring on the top of the dunes, a
replenishment process has to be carried out artificially.
Big quantities of sand have either been put away and not used or removed from Glenelg beach due
to development on the coast. Multiple Adelaide coasts have been built upon an extensive system of
dunes on the coast or, alternatively, due to the need of providing land for housing and Adelaide
airport, dunes were used to infill backswamps of the coast. Along the Lefevre Penisula, land was

Impact of Alcohol in Sports
The investigators of this study for this article are: Bosko Rowland, Falicity Allen, and John
Toumbourou. The aim of the these three authors study was to highlight the factors and impacts that
alcohol plays in Australian sports. Furthermore, the aim of the authors study was to also explain to
the audience the Good Sports program that was designed to reduce the amount of harmful alcohol
consumed in Australian community sports clubs. The method of this study was indiscriminate but
was based off different clubs in Australia. Therefore, the authors used a method, in which they
conducted a postintervention adoption study to determine whether or not the community sports club,
partnered through the Good Sports Program was associated with low rates of alcohol consumption.
About 4.5 million Australians are involved in community sports clubs. Which brings upon the fact
that Behavioral ecology argues that the environment influences alcohol related behaviors in sports
clubs. The authors' of this article used the Good Sports Program database and organized information
from Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia. There were only two sports used for this study, the
Australian Football League, and the Cricket club were invited because of their contribution to the
program. Within the AFL, there are a total of Forty–Seven clubs. Among the Cricket club, there are
a total of eighteen clubs. There were thirty surveys given to each sport with random instructions on

Persuasive Speech On Animals In Zoo
Albert Einstein once said: "Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion

Today, I stand before you to address the growing issue of animals being imprisoned. Put yourself in
the shoes of the animal; can you imagine being locked up in a cage, eating, sleeping and excreting in
the same place every day? Well, animals in zoos are forced to!
Can we really say that animals in zoos, enjoy being taken away from their parents and natural
habitats? The answer to that question is 'No!'. Did you know that tigers and lions have nearly
eighteen thousand times less space in a zoo than they do in their natural habitat and polar bears ...

In zoos, animals have no possible ways to defend themselves or escape from dangerous situations.
In many cases, animals in zoos have been poisoned, starved or even burned in fires! A recent
example on May 28, 2016 was where an animal was killed in the Cincinnati zoo was the shooting of
the gorilla ' Harambe'. In this incident, an irresponsible parent was not looking after her child and
the child climbed into the enclosure. The gorilla was then shot in order to save the child. Another
major incident dates back to the Hurricane Katrina. Here, the employees were forced to leave as the
power failed which led to over 10,000 aquatic animals being killed.
Animals should be given the freedom they deserve. They should not be held captive in zoos and we
can help stop this insanity. If people stop buying tickets to look at imprisoned animals, zoos will be
forced to stop imprisoning and breeding wild animals. There are many better ways of studying an
animal, such as looking up about it online, or even watching an animal documentary which shows
the animal in its natural habitat, with its natural behavior. The animals need to be happy to live the

The Negative Aspects Of Animals In Animals
"For African elephants, the median life span is 17 years for zoo–born females, compared to 56 years
in the Amboseli National Park population," (Mott 1). Day–to–day thousands of animals are held in
captivity. These animals are often kept to aide in their recovery, however are often reaped of their
homes and natural habitats. Purposely used as a form of entertainment in an aquarium or zoo.
Likewise, animals are not given the proper space and the environments given do not often mock
their natural habitats. Moreover, animals should not undergo the confinement of zoos as they
become "insane" and lack proper treatment. Likewise, as animals are forced to endure the conditions
of an aquarium and zoo, animals are led to "insanity." For instance, "Zoochosis is the term used to
describe the stereotypical behavior of animals in captivity. Stereotypic behavior is defined as a
repetitive, invariant behavior pattern with no obvious goal or function. Stereotypic behavior is not
seen in animals in the wild and is understood to be abnormal and is therefore a negative factor in
conservation captive breeding," (Zoochotic Behaviour–Stereotypic Behavior). As can be seen,
animals are often led to unusual behaviors due to their confinement. This behavior depicted by zoo
animals is abnormal and can also harm the animals experiencing this behavior as well as others.
Equally, behavior seen in animals is most often, "bar biting, neck twisting, tongue playing, excessive
grooming, head bobbing...self

The Cruelty Of Animals And Animals
Tons of people in the world that love animals and enjoy having their company. This is why most
people have pets around their household. With these pets we often train them to do special tricks for
example with dogs, the classic 'shake' or 'rollover' is something owners love seeing. With every new
trick that they learn, we give them treats and lots of love. With the treat and love that we give our
pets, they feel loved and happy, maintaining their health and happiness and that also makes the
owners happy. Unfortunately for other animals across the world, they are abused constantly to be fit
enough to do special tricks to entertain people. Many people enjoy seeing animals doing tricks and
stunts, especially animals that are rare to be seen by the human population. But what they don 't
know is how harmful it is to the animals. From the constant abuse, these animals' life span are
shortened and more are getting hurt daily. These animals aren 't actors yet thousands of these
animals are forced to perform meaningless tricks under physical punishment. With places like
SeaWorld and circuses, human trainers and performers choose to be there and entertain people while
the animals that are used in their facility have no choice and are forced to perform. While there are
some laws and organizations that help prevent animal use for entertainment, lack of awareness
surrounding the issue has allowed the use of these animals to continue and remained unchecked.

The Importance Of Mistreatment And Abuse Of Zoos

  • 1. The Importance Of Mistreatment And Abuse Of Zoos On average around 175 million people visit a zoo per year. However, the majority of these people fail to notice a relative issue that is lying in front of their faces. That these animals within these zoos are suffering every day from mistreatment and abuse. Most of the society ignores the many factors that have been revealed to them every time they enter a zoo. Instead, they focus on issues that are happening now, issues that draw out the media and are on the cover of every newspaper. However, these animals facing this mistreatment are relevant and do impact society. Every time an animal is taken from the wild and placed in the captivity of a zoo it impacts the mental health of the animal and endangers everyone and everything around it. Zoos are to blame for this endangerment, yet so is the public for overlooking mistreatment such as an early death in animals, mental illness, and being imported illegally from the wild. When most of the society thinks of a zoo, they think of family fun and a weekend of their childhood. However, what society fails to notice is that it appears as though zoos are deathtraps for the animals living inside of them. Most animals in zoos die earlier than they do in the wild. One reason that contributes to this early death is for entertainment. For example, according to the article, "Killing Animals at the Zoo" by Ian Parker reveals "two biology students were scheduled to dissect a young lion in front of a family audience for a weekend–long event ... • 5. Channel 7 Essay Television news exists to inform and entertain the public regarding local, national, and international news. A variety of news broadcasts are available for all subcultural classes to enable them to be knowledgeable concerning sport, weather, finance, and general issues from around the world, using this easily accessible and logical medium. Two of the most well–known services are Channel Seven and the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC). The Channel Seven Network gains funds from commercial revenue and concentrates on providing news that is appealing to the general public and entertaining. High ratings are crucial to Channel Seven as it is privately owned and heavily relies on the advertisement shown in between news segments. ABC news is owned and financed by the Australian Government, therefore high ratings are not relied on and their focus is on providing worldwide news with accomplished facts. These factors affect the content and perspective, which are tailored to specific target audiences. Each news source has a distinct audience based on the variation of the purpose, structure, style, and language to accommodate the requirements of the Australian population. Channel Seven is targeted at youth and working families which is why providing local and easily understandable news at the family–friendly time of 6pm is so successful. For people with greater intellect, ABC News is better suited as its main focus is on educating the public on global news in a unbiased and advanced manner. The news stations are equally as effective at catering for the needs of their individual audiences. As a teenage Australian, Seven News is best suited to me as it acts as both a form of entertainment and a competent way to keep updated in the world of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Behind the Zoo What makes an object worth collecting? Curiosity is an important aspect of collecting. With the spread of colonies, there was an affinity to discover the unknown, or rather, the different. The nineteenth century paved the way for many sponsored expedition, looking for curios. Found object; vases, pots and pans, tools of everyday use, gained an importance, as curios. Nature has captivated the human cognizance since man first acquired tools, it would only be natural for the curiosity to extend to the subject of new flora and fauna. By means of collecting it is possible to establish a personal identity or characterize the other and often identifying this other as a conquest. This idea of conquest can be analyzed in the manner in which collection is presented, making presenting as important an aspect as the collection itself. The oldest zoological collection was a transportable one which contained every known species, however only two of each animal, one male and one female, collected by Noah as recounted in Genesis. Not does Noah get credit for conceptualizing the zoo, but as highlighted by John Elsner and Roger Cardinal's introduction in The Cultures of Collecting, he was also the first collector. Granted it was under the request of a higher power, but in some way every collection emphasizes a purpose or some secret desire. While we can choose to believe this to be true or not, the lesson to be taken here is that collections can be thrust on its collector. Two of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Aniamls are Dangerous Essay The idea of a zoo is a noble idea. The objective of the zoo is to be a sanctuary where animals live in safety from dangers such as poachers and diseases. This wildlife refuge prevents animals from going extinct, and new generations of people can learn about these animals and appreciate them. Due to human shortcomings, some zoos are concrete prisons or execution chambers. The video, "Captive Animal Misery in European Zoos", provided by Born Free Foundation on Youtube.com that is published on 12th January 2012 shows animals in poor living conditions. In that video, there is an elephant in a small metallic enclosure. In fact, there are no plants or anything that would be in the elephant's habitat. The video continue to show multiple images ... Costa Rica closes down those zoos because the facilities cannot take care of those animals properly, thus those animals would be healthier in the wild. The animals being healthy and happy is what important. Costa Rica sets an example on how governments should act if the zoos' actions are not beneficial to animals. Animals are not safe in zoos. Abigail Hauslohner, who wrote the article "Giraffe Suicide? Bear Riot? It's a Zoo Unlike Any Other" for the Washington Post, reveals that animals are dying in the Giza Zoo in Egypt. According to the article, a young giraffe strangle herself to death from a wire. Animals under the supervision of people should not be able to hurt or kill themselves. Another horrifying truth in "Giraffe Suicide? Bear Riot? It's a Zoo Unlike Any Other" is that zookeepers kill camels for the purpose of selling the meat for profit. Those zookeepers have no right to kill those camels. The purpose for the camels is to educate the public. Those two examples are not the only tragedies. "...three black bears died in a single night under mysterious circumstances" (Hauslohner). This example shows that zoos need to be better monitor. The caretakers are more of a threat than anything else for those creatures. Aquariums are zoos that contain fish and other sea creatures. The article, "Controversial Plan to ... • 17. Summary Of The Influencing Machine In 'The Influencing Machine: Brooke Gladstone on the Media', media analyst and journalist, Brooke Gladstone, famously argues: There is a long–standing debate in the media biz over whether the news outlets should give the public what it wants, or what it needs. This debate presupposes that the media execs actually know what it wants or needs. And that there is actually a unitary 'public.' (Gladstone 2011) The media specialises in providing information, or 'news', to the public. The terms of public 'wants' and public 'needs' create polarising views from both the media and the audience as both parties have different ideas on the importance of each. However, Gladstone raises the more important question of whether there is even a 'unitary public' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And that there is actually a unitary "public."' She makes a fair point, because how can every single person in the entire world be classified under the category 'general public'? People automatically fall under demographics such as age and gender, which undoubtedly affect their interest levels for different stories (Hamilton 2011, p. 84). There are also other factors such as readers' locations, jobs, cultures and hobbies which all come into play when trying to determine what may interest someone. 'Not everything is interesting to everyone and news services choose stories on the basis of their interest to their particular audience' (Alysen 2012, pp. 24–42). • 21. What Qualities Make Our Life Worth Value? What qualities make our life worth value? This question usually arises in any discussion regarding animal ethics. It is impossible to answer this question, however, because no one other then God will definitively even know the exact qualities that make our lives valuable. All we can do is guess what parts of us give us higher value over other creatures that inhabit our planet. So we let our perceptions and pre–conceived notions about animals dictate how we treat them. Everyone consciously or subconsciously ranks living creatures and attributes value to them. The way we often do this is we set ourselves as a benchmark. Then we compare ourselves to them and look for similarities. The more similar they are to us the more value the must have. Right? The flaw in this philosophy other than the fact that we have other than we having no clue if this is a correct way to assess a living being's value is that as we learn more about animals and other living creatures, we learn that our previous connived notions about them are in fact untrue. We commonly call people unintelligent pigs even though we now know that pigs are smarter than dogs. We have made the bald eagle our countries national bird because we assumed that something so majestic must be honorable denizen of the sky when bald eagles are in actuality scavengers and bullies. We are scared to swim in the ocean due to our fear of sharks when cows kill more people annually. These preconceived notions have allowed us to bypass ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have always been interested in the relevance of the examination, how it is perceived by people and whether students are the key people it 'serves'. To gain a basic understanding of the purpose of the UMAT I conducted preliminary research, utilising the ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) website, who were the developers and write the examination every year. I obtained sources through the use of google scholar to locate relevant and highly reliable sources. The majority of my sources were secondary obtained from websites, journals and articles. I had emailed multiple professionals to conduct interviews but received no responses, hence, I was unable to obtain primary data on my topic. However, sources from the Medical Journal of Australia provided sufficient information on my topic, providing me with facts and statistics which I utilised throughout my report. • 29. Should Zoos Banned The majority of the people in the US have visited a zoo and seen the many creatures within the walls. But is this right to do? To capture animals, injured or not from their natural habitat and confine them to small limited area to which they begin to lose their natural instincts? An article written by Alison Benjamin and Toby Moses named "Should Zoos be Banned?" goes into detail about their opinions on zoosa and whether or not zoos should stay or be banned. Their article argues both point, the pros of staying by Benjamin and the cons of banning by Moses. A few key points they point out are: the educational purpose, animal behavior, breeding and human enjoyment. Benjamin starts the article off arguing that zoos are cruel places that animals don't need to be in. She starts her section off by mentioning the shooting of the gorilla Harambe in the Cincinnati zoo. She mentions how the underlying problem in the shooting was that the gorilla was locked up in the first place. She continues on with that kids may see zoo's enjoyable because they can get close to the animals they see on TV, but that they are just a relic of the Victorian age and that we should stick to viewing distinctive animals in the comfort of our homes on our TV's. Benjamin then pulls out a secret that's been hiding under the rug if you would about zoos. She talks about how they prescribe Prozac to some of the animals. • 33. Ethical Implications Of Keeping Animals In Captivity A visit to the zoo is often one of the most enthralling and entertaining things for children and adults alike; however, most individuals do not realize the ethical implications of holding animals in captivity for entertainment purposes. Zoos originated as an organization that held animals in captivity for viewing pleasure, but now claim to have evolved to become an educational and conservation institution. Despite zoo's claims that they ultimately serve as a viable education, economic, and conservation resource, there is overwhelming evidence that zoo animals are treated cruelly while in captivity. The cruelty zoo animals undergo is largely unethical and presents a need to alter zoos in order to reduce animal suffering. The current paper addresses the need for zoos to be altered in ways that will increase soo animals' well–being. In this paper I will describe the ways in which zoos are considered an important education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American Psychological Association (APA) defines stress as "the pattern of specific and nonspecific responses an organism makes to stimulus events that disturb its equilibrium and tax or exceed its ability to cope" (Gerrig and Zimbardo), or in other terms, stress can be seen as an organism's ability to adapt to it's surroundings. If an organism is subjected to excessive or chronic stress, it may experience many detrimental side effects, of both physical and psychological nature. AFL is a very fast paced game, which involves periods of speed, agility and skill. There are 18 players on the field and up to 7 on the interchange bench, for each team. The hypothesis is that if animals have a smaller sized enclosure it results in less active animal behaviour. The group of animals chosen to study was primates and the particular species are; Siamangs, Baboons, Orang–utans and Gibbons. These animals were chosen because they all have different enclosure sizes so their behaviour can be recorded and then compared. The practical involved a particular primate being observed and their behaviour being recorded every minute, for fifteen minutes. Then the next animal was observed and the process was repeated for all four primates, twice. The independent variables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Zoo Controversy Essay Everybody's been to the zoo; they've either enjoyed a dolphin show, or fed the penguins. Zoos have been a part of American culture for centuries. At first, a zoo could be seen as nothing more than a jail cell for animals, but today, zoos are being completely transformed. What used to be confined cages are now being revolutionized into acres of land for different species to reside in. The opponents of zoos feel that they are inhumane and harmful to animals. However, zoos are beneficial for several different reasons, including, animal conservation and captive breeding, scientific studies, healthcare, and education. Daniel Martin, writer for mailonline.com, wrote an article about Angela Smith who works as a Labor's Charities Minister. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, animals in zoos are kept in well–clean, vast areas of land where they are free to roam around in a habitat where they feel comfortable. According to a TIME Magazine article, The San Diego Zoo spent 3.5 million dollars to construct a mock forest for five bears (Gibbs). The exhibit includes trees, a waterfall, and even an electronic honey dispenser. According to the article, "[w]hen the lush exhibit opened this summer, zoogoers loved it, and so did the bears. They shredded the trees and rolled in the sod," (Gibbs). Instead of the small cages and foul odors that most people associate with zoos, many zoos spend a large sum of their budget on keeping their facilities pristine. Animal habitats are now bigger than ever, and more importantly, cleaned multiple times a day, along with the animals' regular feedings. This further proves that zoos have made drastic improvements over the introductory zoos most people associate with. Contrary to what Smith believes, zoos are actually very beneficial for animals, one of the main reasons being conservation of species in zoos. Since their beginning in Europe in the mid–19th century, zoos have improved drastically; back then, zoos were merely for entertainment, where as now zoo owners are more aware and concerned with the welfare of their animals (Masci). With the endangered species list rising every year, it is imperative that scientists remain conscious of the number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first type of bushranger was convicts from the first fleet who fled the colony for freedom. The second types of bushranger were those who chose to become an outlaw. Within this essay I will highlight the reasons why a bushranger became an outlaw by explaining the lifestyle of the early Australian settlement and how they shaped Australian's Colonial Identity and became an important part of Australian history. "The first settlement in Sydney cove was described as a prison surrounded by bush and sea" (Bushrangers Hero, Victims or Villains, Jill Bruce, 2003). At first food was plentiful but a year later food stock decreased, especially to the food supply to the convicts. The shortages of food lead to stealing and severe consequences of being tortured and even death occurred. Those that escaped it were a desperate attempt for freedom. Although they found that the bush was a wild and strange place inhabited by natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bushranger symbolised freedom and the dislike of authority. They made those in power, such as the police, the governing bodies and Britan look stupid. Because of this law, Metropol Zoo cost of running is high and they can't cut it down even when the funds are low because their zoo license will be withdrawn if the animals basic needs are not met. In terms of threat of new competition, Metropol Zoo has to face both direct and indirect competition. Indirect competitors are safaris, theme parks and adventure parks within an hour's travel time of the city that also competes in the family day out environment. Zoos & Aquariums, as well as museums, were established from private collections and the human urge to keepsake the different, the extraordinary, the exotic. The human species has evolved to use its dominion over other species to its benefit. The acquisition of animals as collectible has always been more fascinating and exciting than natural history objects. This is in part because wild life is less common, difficult to acquire and more costly to maintain. Keeping living animals has been the ultimate trophy for many collectors of the elite. Collections brought a microcosm of reality to the homeland. The concept of the natural history museum, zoos and aquariums has undergone great changes over the past decades; shifting from private collections to public displays. • 66. The Mistreatment Of Animals In Zoos Every year almost 175 million people visit a zoo, yet the mistreatment of animals in zoos goes almost completely unnoticed. This mistreatment is constantly swept under the rug by issues that society deems more relevant or impact us more. For example, issues like climate change receive more attention. However, this mistreatment is relevant and is constantly impacting society. These animals that are left malnourished, fatigued, and constantly fighting bacterial infections, are important. Every time an animal is pulled from the wild and put into captivity it impacts the mental health of the animal and endangers everyone and everything around it. Zoos are to blame for this endangerment, yet so is the public for overlooking mistreatment such as enclosures that are too small, surplus animals, and mental illness in animals. Zoos are many things. It can be a place for family fun and a good place to visit over the weekend, yet there are so many things going on inside zoos that the public fails to notice. For example, the article "10 Facts about Zoos" by CAPS discusses the lack of enclosure space and states, "Tigers and lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild. Polar bears have one million times less space." This reveals that animals in zoos are placed in enclosures that are way too small for them and not even remotely close to what they experience in the wild. As they finished their meager meal Dirac came into the camp followed by a single horse. "The raiding party is about six hours ahead of us at your human walking speed. If you had more horses, we could quickly overtake them, but your other horses who escaped the attack are gone. He worked with Sarah and Philip to sort through the packs and they rapidly made up small bundles for Sarah and Phillip to carry. While doing so, he gave them some advice. "Jerrit mentioned that this was a Shadoch raiding party. They are a brutal and very dangerous people. We rarely see them in Emradon and it is odd that the path Dirac found leads to the southeast. The Shadoch do hire out as mercenaries, and they appear to have been sent to attack us so it may have been a plot hatched by Stenland. We have not been on friendly terms with them of late. It is all quite strange. But, you must be very careful if you get near them." Each of the children armed themselves with hunting daggers from the pile of supplies. Philip also picked up a bow, similar to the one he had been using for practicing, and a quiver of arrows. I received about $20,000, which was not an unpleasant amount in 1936, but wouldn't last more than a year for a fifth avenue address. This was the last thing that I would spend time dwelling on. Though, it would be hard enough to find a panda, a baby panda would be impossible to find. However, the majority of these people fail to notice a relative issue that is lying in front of their faces. That these animals within these zoos are suffering every day from mistreatment and abuse. Most of the society ignores the many factors that are displayed out in front of them every time they enter a zoo. Instead, society focuses in on issues that are happening right now, the issues that draw out the media and are on the cover of every newspaper. However, what society fails to notice is that zoos are a deathtrap for the animals living inside of them. Most animals in zoos die much earlier than they do in the wild. Signals that make zoos unfair and sometimes unbearable for the captive animals are not visible to most spectators. This essay will explain how zoos are unjust and should not be supported. Animals should not be held captive due their negative behavioral changes, lack of natural habitat and the zoos failure to effectively preserve endangered species. When introduced with stress animals act strangely, and their actions are visible to zoo visitors, but viewers are not aware of why they are doing these things. According to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), when animals pace from side to side, walk in circles, lick their bars, roll their heads, and rock back and forth, they are under severe stress. Most captive animals also perform acts of self mutilation, and eat their own feces. There are even some cases of stillbirths caused by stressful conditions. Animals who naturally live in large herds should not be housed alone, and solitary animals should not be kept in groups. These situations also create unhappiness in captive animals. Zoo animals living under anxiety and tension also add to the difficulties of conserving species. Zoos claim to conserve species, but they frequently fall short on this promise. The zoo industry rationalizes the caging and breeding of animals by claiming that zoos enhance conservation efforts, but the facts do not back up this claim. According to a joint report by the World Society for the Protection of Animals and the Born Free Foundation, "with the best will in the world, and even with all their combined resources, zoos cannot hope to save more than a few of the animal species that are doomed to become extinct within the next decade" (Laws). However, there is no possible way for wild habitats to be replicated well enough for animals in captivity to thrive, animals are often separated and withheld from living as they would in the wild. Despite their argument of being educational for visitors, the only thing they are teaching the public is that it is ok to take animals out of the wild and lock them up for their own enjoyment. Regardless of these claims, zoos are inhumane. The first reason that zoos are inhumane is because while in confinement, animals' needs are rarely met. In fact, often times these life altering changes made in captivity can have tremendously destructive effects on the animals. Birds' wings may be clipped so that they cannot fly, aquatic animals often go without adequate water, and many animals who naturally live in large herds or family groups are kept alone or, at most, in pairs. Natural hunting and mating behaviors are virtually eliminated by regulating feeding and breeding regimens. Animals are closely confined, lack privacy, and have little opportunity for mental stimulation or physical exercise. These conditions often result in abnormal and self–destructive behavior, known as "zoochosis." (PETA 9) By placing these animals in unsuitable environments, they are experiencing mental and physical abuse. Moreover, their behaviors are being reformed in order to even be able to survive in such terrible conditions, therefore, altering future generations of these animals. So, not only are zoos changing these animals to conform to their artificial surroundings, but they are also disturbing the natural instincts of the species in order to survive in captivity. As mentioned by the Humane Society of the United States, "Inhumane conditions teach children the wrong message, seeming to condone indifference. The world's most beautiful and unique animals are a treasure that draws crowds. The beauty and intricacies of the thousands of species of animals are not to be taken for granted. Zoos are positively impacting the animals and society. Zoos impact society through education. The public is exposed to a myriad of species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds on this planet and they are able to learn about all the unique creatures through observing them and reading the signs by their exhibits. Zoo attendees have the opportunity to learn about protecting animals and keeping endangered species alive, as well as raising awareness of the creatures on our planet. • 102. Pros And Cons Of Animals In Entertainment Christian Dominguez–Pineda Mr. Young Zoology 11 December, 2017 Animals in entertainment Animals in entertainment environments has been a controversial topic for years. The thought of taking an animal out of their environment and into a zoo captive is very upsetting to some people; others see animal captivity as a need to study and see the animals up–close in an environment, to entertain our minds of the animals in our planet. The animals that are brought into zoos or other entertainment places for animal viewings have been taken from their families and natural habitat which is the most important thing to an animal. The sudden change of habitat can have a very bad effect on an animal, "some animals develop a condition called zoochosis. The animal is seen swaying back in forth in a state of oblivion." Not only is this developed as they enter into a new habitat but it can also be caused by the certain antidepressants like Prozac. Animals living in their habitat do not get to choose who they mate with, they are simply given a partner to mate with. Most of the births by the animals are offspring and can be legally sold to other zoos. The practice of artificially inseminated animals can often lead to offspring's, miscarriages, death at birth or rejection of their young. Another focus of cons in entertainment is circuses. The animals are subject to do tricks for the audience's entertainment. The animals are kept in small cages and travel all over the place for performances. Most of the techniques in circuses to train an animal involves whipping, beating, hurting an animal to behave and perform tricks. Because of this behavior towards the animals, the environment at a circus is generally very sketchy. You never know when a lion can be tired of performing and decide to go on a rampage in a circus towards the audience. Circuses carry a variety of animals from lions, tigers, monkeys, to even elephants. The purpose of a circus is to entertain, there is no learning involved in the audience's experience. Audiences still support circuses and their many horrific behaviors towards the animals because they like to see what the animals can do. Most of the audience is not very aware of what happens to an animal in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 106. Animal Isolation In Zoos The zoo has been a timeless attraction that has served as a place for people to gather and ponder in wonder at vast wildlife from every corner of the world. Every year millions of people go to aquariums, and zoos to spectate on these happy go loving pandas, monkeys, dolphins and the rest of the creature on the never ending animal list. Little do people know that they are witnessing firsthand the imprisonment and inhumane treatment of innocent animals; these creatures are exposed to overwhelming isolation, a shortened life span and in the rare occasion they are released back to the wild they no longer have natural instinct to help them survive. Isolation, just like humans animals are living creatures who require interaction with their own kind. Wild animals commonly live in groups whether it be a pride of lions, pack of wolves or a pod of whales. One example in particular is elephants, "elephants naturally live within large family groups and are one of the most socially complex animals outside of man. Yet in zoos they are kept either alone or with only one or two other unrelated elephants" (" Los Angeles Times," para. 6). As if taking them out of their natural habitat was not enough zoos seclude animals from their families and place them in exhibits with complete strangers leaving them feeling isolated and lonely. As a result of doing this animals like elephants who form a deep bond with their family and live in a strong matriarchal society of relatives that often consists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, mining industry has industrialised suburban areas by way of polluting the countryside. It has been confirmed by Kelly (2013) that greenhouse gas emissions is a major impact from massive coal mining developments and coal seam gas. • 114. Essay on Should Animals Be Kept in the Zoo? Animals play an important role of human life. Wild animal is a kind that normally lives in the wild, for example: elephants, tigers, rhinos and many others. They live in the wild with spacious and natural environment, however many humans kept them in the zoo, as an attraction for the sake of the money. They didn't think of the wild animals habitat, and there are some problems arise from keeping them in cages. The shock of being in captivity would depress the animals; they would even act hysterically and might hurt people near them. And it is not the animal to be fault. There are three main reasons why wild animals should not be kept in the zoos: Firstly, the ecosystem became unbalanced. If the humans kept the wild animals in the zoo, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wild animals would not be wild anymore; the humans have tamed them. Their natural behavior will change. Some people agree that animals should be kept in the zoo. They said it would be safer for the animals and they won't be extinct. The amount of possibilities of them dying, shot by hunters or any other reason, still higher than the chances of their survival. Food and shelter are provided, medicine, and their breeding is being controlled. And many of the wild animals in zoos are ones that are on the endangered list as their amounts are rapidly diminishing. Letting them loose and returning them to the wild is not necessarily a safe option. (Mylot, 2007) In fact, zoo can be one of the educational studies for children and people who are interested with animals. Zoo is the only place that we can have an opportunity to see animal's life really close and sometimes we can touch them. Zoos also provide lots of information about certain animals, children can have chance to get out of the classroom and learn so they can see natural beauty from different species of animals. Even children can see them from discovery channel but that's really different if you see animal in real world, for an example, if you see crocodile, snake or shark in the movie, maybe you won't afraid than you see the real one. According to Tudge, (1992, p.56) Zoos are the place where people can study animals and their habitat, even scientist don't need to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business innovation, for example, video conferencing, interpersonal organizations and virtual office innovation has evacuated work environment limits that beforehand constrained business development. With business innovation, organizations can focus on a more extensive client base and develop to larger amounts. Office innovation spares times by accelerating the work process. Computerized documenting frameworks spare space, paper and printing costs. The utilization of computerised systems like robots permit remedies to be made in a flash. Assets like electronic records and access to data innovation are accessible with the snap of a catch. (Scott, n.d.) Haigh's have all the computerised facilities to run a business including taking orders online. Now there is the introduction of a new technology named Baxter–the robot. A 'cooperative robot' designed to work securely alongside people, will make his debut at Haigh's Adelaide factory just after the chocolatier's busy Easter period and is advertised to revolutionise Australia's manufacturing industry. Baxter was created by Adelaide–born Rodney Brooks in 2012. Baxter is an answer for makers of all sizes. Notwithstanding its extraordinarily low value point, Baxter offers six central contrasts that recognize it from customary mechanical robots: – No programming – No security confines – Streamlined joining – ... • 122. Persuasive Essay On Endangered Animals Thousands of people have probably seen a video or read an article about an animal being tortured then killed in the wild by a poacher. The videos are exceedingly graphic and the pictures used in articles aren't any better. Animals aren't just being killed, but their natural habitat are being chopped and burned down. The poaching and destruction of their natural habitat has left hundred maybe thousands of animals extinct and more are going extinct every single day. To help the animals from going extinct there are two solutions that could help them. One is to keep them in captivity at zoos where they will be cared for and the second is to keep them in the wild, but have them supervised. With deforestation and poaching has led animals to extinction. To solve the problem the animals should be held in captivity because the zoos will help with the breeding of species, they won't have to fight for territory, and they won't have the problem of being killed. Then when the species is ready to be released they will be sent back to the wild and thrive and live with other like them. First let's start with how zoos can help with breeding. There are dozens of zoos who specialize with captive breeding that "aims to manage the breeding of specific endangered species in order to help maintain healthy and self–sustaining populations that are both genetically diverse and demographically stable." There is proof that this has worked and have sent back the animals into the wild. "According to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 126. Argumentative Essay : Animal Entertainment Maisie Lacina November 21, 2017 Advanced LA 10 Argument paper Animal Entertainment Have you ever been to a circus or a zoo? Almost everyone has been to a zoo or seen animals act on television. You may have watched animals act silly and do tricks, but do you know what happens behind the scenes? Those animals are mistreated and beaten just so they can learn to perform a certain task in front of people for shows. Animals should not be used as entertainment because of the cruelty that follows. Animals are not actors, they belong in the wild with their families. "Thousands of animals are forced to perform silly and confusing tricks under the threat of physical punishment" according to PETA website. " Animals Are NOT Ours To Eat, Wear, Experiment on, Use for Entertainment, or Abuse in Any Other Way." In circus`, often elephants perform tricks like balancing on their head, sitting on a platform, balancing on a platform and other "cool" tricks. While training an elephant, trainers use electric prods, bullhooks and blow torches to get the animal to do what the trainer wants. Also, when tigers fail to learn or refuse to perform a trick they are often starved of food and not given water as punishment. Many people own a dog, so would it be okay for someone to beat and punish their dog to get them to sit? Lions, tigers, and elephants are no different. Animals attend multiple abusive training practices a day which causes pain and stress and gives the animals no value or right in their life. Zoo`s on the other hand are prisons to hundreds and thousands of animals just for the enjoyment of paying visitors. These animals lose control of their lives and aren't able to fulfill their full potential. Some animals who should be living alone are caged with others and often, an animal`s predator is right next door. Sometimes zoos teach animals tricks for shows, but as an animal, their brains don't work like ours, and are beaten when they either don't do the trick right or won't do it. Often you may see an ad in the paper or a commercial on tv about an upcoming show or circus, and the animals are doing tricks and people are smiling, this shows people that the animals and people are having fun and they should support it. • 130. Persuasive Essay On Animal Cruelty Shelby Ellwanger English 10 Honors Mrs. Kirkpatrick 30 November 2017 Animal Jail Imagine a baby tiger running around the savannah. He looks like he is having a blast, being able to roam free. Suddenly, a man comes out of nowhere and captures the tiger and puts him in a cage in the back of a van. A few days later the tiger is released into a new unfamiliar habitat with walls blocking him off from the rest of the world. That is where the tiger will spend the rest of his life. This is called animal captivity. Places like zoos, amusement parks, circuses, and aquariums capture animals from the wild so they can make money off of people that pay to see these animals. Wild animals do not belong in cages. They belong in the wild where they can't be restricted. They deserve to run free, just like humans do. Elephants are one of the worst treated animals in zoos and circuses. Their life spans are dramatically shorter than elephants who live in the wild. Out of 321 elephants that are/were being held captive, at least half of them were dead by the age of 23, while elephants living in the wild can live up to 60 years. "[T]he decades long effort by zoos to preserve and protect elephants is failing, exacerbated by substandard conditions and denial of mounting scientific evidence that most elephants do not thrive in captivity," (Seattle Times). Dr. Bekoff, the former University of Colorado professor, found an investigation that the Seattle Times had done and found that in the last 50 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 134. Beach Selected : Glenelg Beach Beach selected: Glenelg beach History: According to Glenelg SA (2015), Glenelg beach is only 12km from the centre of Adelaide, Glenelg is a pleasing entertaining beach resort set amongst the sandy shores of the bay of Holdfast. In 1836, Glenelg was the site of South Australia's original mainland settlement. Processes that affect Glenelg Beach: There are multiple factors that affect Glenelg beach and other Adelaide beaches. The drift of sand that is going north is created by the winds and waves. Although, sand can move in different wind conditions. This sand movement is also known as a littoral drift. Big quantities of sand is eroded due to the cause of considerable damage to beach, dune and nearshore areas because of a coastal storm. Therefore, Glenelg beach cannot be considered stable just like other Adelaide beaches. Before the settlement of the Europeans, Glenelg beach had been withheld by costal dune erosion. Although due to the subsequent development occurring on the top of the dunes, a replenishment process has to be carried out artificially. Big quantities of sand have either been put away and not used or removed from Glenelg beach due to development on the coast. Multiple Adelaide coasts have been built upon an extensive system of dunes on the coast or, alternatively, due to the need of providing land for housing and Adelaide airport, dunes were used to infill backswamps of the coast. Along the Lefevre Penisula, land was reclaimed to create the suburb of North ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of the these three authors study was to highlight the factors and impacts that alcohol plays in Australian sports. Furthermore, the aim of the authors study was to also explain to the audience the Good Sports program that was designed to reduce the amount of harmful alcohol consumed in Australian community sports clubs. The method of this study was indiscriminate but was based off different clubs in Australia. Therefore, the authors used a method, in which they conducted a postintervention adoption study to determine whether or not the community sports club, partnered through the Good Sports Program was associated with low rates of alcohol consumption. About 4.5 million Australians are involved in community sports clubs. Which brings upon the fact that Behavioral ecology argues that the environment influences alcohol related behaviors in sports clubs. The authors' of this article used the Good Sports Program database and organized information from Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia. There were only two sports used for this study, the Australian Football League, and the Cricket club were invited because of their contribution to the program. Within the AFL, there are a total of Forty–Seven clubs. Among the Cricket club, there are a total of eighteen clubs. There were thirty surveys given to each sport with random instructions on how to return the surveys. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 142. Persuasive Speech On Animals In Zoo Albert Einstein once said: "Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty." Ladies and gentlemen, Today, I stand before you to address the growing issue of animals being imprisoned. Put yourself in the shoes of the animal; can you imagine being locked up in a cage, eating, sleeping and excreting in the same place every day? Well, animals in zoos are forced to! Can we really say that animals in zoos, enjoy being taken away from their parents and natural habitats? The answer to that question is 'No!'. Did you know that tigers and lions have nearly eighteen thousand times less space in a zoo than they do in their natural habitat and polar bears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In zoos, animals have no possible ways to defend themselves or escape from dangerous situations. In many cases, animals in zoos have been poisoned, starved or even burned in fires! A recent example on May 28, 2016 was where an animal was killed in the Cincinnati zoo was the shooting of the gorilla ' Harambe'. In this incident, an irresponsible parent was not looking after her child and the child climbed into the enclosure. The gorilla was then shot in order to save the child. Another major incident dates back to the Hurricane Katrina. Here, the employees were forced to leave as the power failed which led to over 10,000 aquatic animals being killed. Animals should be given the freedom they deserve. They should not be held captive in zoos and we can help stop this insanity. If people stop buying tickets to look at imprisoned animals, zoos will be forced to stop imprisoning and breeding wild animals. There are many better ways of studying an animal, such as looking up about it online, or even watching an animal documentary which shows the animal in its natural habitat, with its natural behavior. • 150. The Negative Aspects Of Animals In Animals "For African elephants, the median life span is 17 years for zoo–born females, compared to 56 years in the Amboseli National Park population," (Mott 1). Day–to–day thousands of animals are held in captivity. These animals are often kept to aide in their recovery, however are often reaped of their homes and natural habitats. Purposely used as a form of entertainment in an aquarium or zoo. Likewise, animals are not given the proper space and the environments given do not often mock their natural habitats. Moreover, animals should not undergo the confinement of zoos as they become "insane" and lack proper treatment. Likewise, as animals are forced to endure the conditions of an aquarium and zoo, animals are led to "insanity." For instance, "Zoochosis is the term used to describe the stereotypical behavior of animals in captivity. Stereotypic behavior is defined as a repetitive, invariant behavior pattern with no obvious goal or function. Stereotypic behavior is not seen in animals in the wild and is understood to be abnormal and is therefore a negative factor in conservation captive breeding," (Zoochotic Behaviour–Stereotypic Behavior). As can be seen, animals are often led to unusual behaviors due to their confinement. This behavior depicted by zoo animals is abnormal and can also harm the animals experiencing this behavior as well as others. Equally, behavior seen in animals is most often, "bar biting, neck twisting, tongue playing, excessive grooming, head bobbing...self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With these pets we often train them to do special tricks for example with dogs, the classic 'shake' or 'rollover' is something owners love seeing. With every new trick that they learn, we give them treats and lots of love. With the treat and love that we give our pets, they feel loved and happy, maintaining their health and happiness and that also makes the owners happy. Unfortunately for other animals across the world, they are abused constantly to be fit enough to do special tricks to entertain people. Many people enjoy seeing animals doing tricks and stunts, especially animals that are rare to be seen by the human population. But what they don 't know is how harmful it is to the animals. From the constant abuse, these animals' life span are shortened and more are getting hurt daily. These animals aren 't actors yet thousands of these animals are forced to perform meaningless tricks under physical punishment. With places like SeaWorld and circuses, human trainers and performers choose to be there and entertain people while the animals that are used in their facility have no choice and are forced to perform. While there are some laws and organizations that help prevent animal use for entertainment, lack of awareness surrounding the issue has allowed the use of these animals to continue and remained unchecked.
