3. Creating my masthead
I then changed the alignment and shape of my
masthead as I have separated the word
lolliPOP onto two lines.
I did this to create more space for the main
image on the right hand side of my cover.
This challenged the typical conventions of
magazine which I will address in my
evaluation.

5. Draft Following my initial ideas, sketch and photo
shoots, I began creating my cover page.
Firstly, I chose a pink to white gradient
background to match my decisions from my
initial ideas- I wanted a girly, feminine theme.
I added my double page spread, „Tours of the
Month‟ to the cover as an article and secondary
lead which I made stand out using Bevel and
emboss aswell as Drop shadowing the text. I
created a clipping mask for the leopard print
behind the „N‟ and „M‟of Nicki Minaj in my
cover line as I thought it was a unique and eye
catching look which suits Nicki‟s style and
would attract my audience. I quickly a few
issues with my cover: I discovered that my pink
theme was too much as the different pinks such
as the hair, background, title, bars at the top
and bottom were clashing therefore I knew I
had to change something. Also, my title didn‟t
allow me much room so it needed re
positioning. I decided to redraft in order to sort
these issues.

7. Revised version In order to eliminate the problem involving
room to write due to the title, I decided to
spread it across two lines and have it in the left
corner. This challenges the typical conventions
of a magazine as usually the masthead takes up
the top third over one line but I have seen this
before and it allowed me more room so thought
it was more appropriate and made my cover
unique.
I also changed the background colour to remove
the clashing shades of pink. Introducing the
blue really helped my cover to come together as
it made the pink stand out more and made it
look more vibrant and interesting to look at. I
zoomed out of the photograph of my model to
add more room and to show the position and
outfit more. I also added an eye catching logo
and more articles to my cover to make it look
busier to appeal to my audience more. I
changed the position of the bar code and added
the website and date to follow the conventions
of a magazine. I challenged the conventions by
having the tag line above my title on the top
pink bar as this is usually below the title- this
again adds uniqueness to my house style.
