as separate participants

individually the verb should
be in its
plural form.

When a collective noun is
followed by a specification to the
noun (an OF phrase), take the
object of the prepositional phrase
as your noun, if it is countable
take is as plural if it is
uncountable then it is singular.

11. rEd RuLe
When a collective noun is
preceded by a specification to
the noun refer to the
specification for your verb, if it
has the words EACH, EVERY,
EVERY ONE, ANY ONE, etc., it
is singular.
