2. Research
We did some research into other films that had the same
genre as ours which is a psychological thriller. We looked
at films like ‘Fugitive’, ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ and ‘The
Shawshank Redemption’. All these films include their wife
being murdered and then arrested or trying to find the killer
which is what happens in our story.
3. Did you reach your Target Audience?
I think we did reach our target audience of 15+ as the
people we surveyed were in this age bracket and said they
would want to watch the film. Most of the target audience
also said they like the title which will draw them in,
therefore our title also appeals to the target audience and
will make them want to watch the film.
4. How did we reach the Target Audience?
When thinking about location and target audience, we
decided to use a modern house and area which will appeal
to the younger generation. The house is also big along with
the car which may show it’s a family who live there which
will again appeal to the 15+ target audience as most of this
age bracket will have a family. The characters are also
middle aged which again links with family.
5. Audience Feedback
From our audience feedback we took on board everything
they said and made our film better and more appealing to
our targeted audience. The feedback included an
improvement to ‘make it faster paced’. We agreed with this
statement as our film is a thriller and is meant too have
action/jump-cuts/speed.
6. How we overcome this…
After analysing our film for where we could add more jump
cuts, we decided to add them towards the end which
creates tension and builds up suspense. We also
juxtaposed the ending with the beginning as In the
beginning we used pans, establishing shots and shots
which lasted longer. We then gradually speeded up the
pace by adding more shots towards the end and abruptly
ending the seen to add more suspense.
7. More Audience Feedback
Another improvement suggested was that we add music or
sound and I think the audience suggested this as music
creates tension and will get the audience scared. From this,
we then added some music at the beginning of the scene
when Darren is being arrested. The music we used was
weird and distorted which fits the genre and also
foreshadows that something bad is going to happen.
8. Is there anything you would improve on?
I think our film could have overall been improved if we used
a wider variety of shots. We used most shots however I feel
like we didn’t use enough high and low angles and at the
right time, for example with the police officers. I think we
could have used lower angles to make them look like they
had the power and authority. To improve it further I would
also consider using more high angles and close up shots of
Darren to empathise his pain, vulnerability and confusion.
