Night for the Homeless - Event Round-Up from Donation to Delivery
1. Night for the Homeless 2013
What I've come to learn is that the world is never saved in
grand messianic gestures, but in the simple accumulation of
gentle, soft, almost invisible acts of compassion.
Chris Abani (Nigerian Author)
2. Night for the Homeless
On 21 Dec 2013 a group of 23 people went in to the night in Central
London to spread light to the homeless who have to spend Christmas
without a family or a place to stay.
Super team on the night: Peter, Jie Ming, Shoba, Nadia, Lucia, Karen, Jack, Mikkel, Helena, Christos, Donald (photographer), Naheed, Ben,
Nina, Torsten, Leena, Leo, Yaqub, Ed, Alex, Gosia and John (photographer).
In 6 hours we reminded 100 homeless people that they are not forgotten
regardless of their social background, race, religion or nationality.
3. Making It Happen
• At Christmas 2012 Mikkel Juel Iversen and Yaqub Hussain created “Night for
the Homeless” through their company Dignity Entertainment. It all came
together in 4 days but turned out to be a great success.
• This year we started a few months before as our event had been selected by
Santa Barbara City College to benefit from their annual charity fashion show.
• 30 days from our event day of 21 Dec 2013 a fund raising campaign on the
crowd-funding platform Indiegogo was launched.
• Pret A Manger proved willing to help as they did last year by donating more
than 100 LoveBars.
• Our great friend Christos and his family offered to prepare 50 home cooked
meals.
• We had a donation of 50 bottles of Innocent juice from the Waldorf Hotel
• Friends of our Dignity Entertainment and Under One Sky Facebook
communities contributed messages of hope and light to the homeless.
• Our fund raising campaign was hugely successful with £5325 raised for the
benefit of London’s homeless.
• The funds were used to buy gift cards to Argos to enable the homeless to buy a
sleeping bag, tent, clothing or similar to get them through winter.

7. Lighting Up Faces in Dark Places
In 6 hours 5 teams searched bridges, alleyways, train stations and
alcoves from Victoria to South Bank to Kings Cross.
8. But there is more GOODNESS to come…
Our fundraising campaign was so successful we decided to split the
donations and go back on the street for another round in February.
9. We Salute You!
A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who contributed to Night for the
Homeless through donations, messages, food, drink and hands-on
