1. MBAF’S Emilio Escandon named Head of Tax Practice for
Northeast Region
NEW YORK (April 10, 2013) – Emilio Escandon, CPA, has been appointed MBAF’s Northeast
Region’s Tax Practice Principal-in-Charge. Previously, Escandon was in charge of MBAFs Fort
Lauderdale tax practice. The announcement was made by Tony Argiz, Chairman and CEO of
MBAF.
Escandon has been in practice since 1983, and brings extensive experience in both public
accounting and corporate tax practices to the firm’s New York office. Previously a partner with a
“Big Four” accounting firm, he is knowledgeable in managing a diverse portfolio of clients.
"While based in Florida, Emilio was a key member of the Tax Practice team, and now we’re
excited to have his leadership and experience here in New York,” said Ira Rubenstein, principal-
in-charge of the New York region. “His skills and expertise are extremely valuable, and his
knowledge of public and private tax practices adds significant value for our clients.”
Escandon has worked with public and private companies with diverse tax issues including tax
and accounting methods, tax implementation of FIN 48, and treatment of stock options. He has
assisted clients in negotiating, structuring, and performing related due diligence for transactions
with a deal value of over $6 billion. He has represented selling shareholders in structuring
transactions, including a $1.2 billion transaction for which the tax arbitration added $200 million
and two separate transactions each totaling over $300 million.
Prior to joining MBAF, in addition to having been a ”Big Four” partner, Escandon also served as
Senior Vice President-Corporate Tax at Intercontinental Bank, a publicly-traded $2.5 billion
Super-Community Bank in South Florida, where he successfully established and managed the
bank’s Corporate Tax Department.

2. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Florida Institute of
Certified Public Accountants, where he was past chair of the Federal Taxation Committee. He
is also past chair of CPA Today’s Editorial Committee, and is past chairman of Junior
Achievement of Greater Miami. Escandon is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he
earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree.
