2. To change the words in plural we
need the following rules:
Most nouns take -s in the plural.
E.g.
cup cups
pencil pencils
chair chairs
desk desks
wallet wallets
3. Nouns ending in -s, -ss, -sh, x, ch and -
o take - es.
E.g.
bus buses
glass glasses
brush brushes
watch watches
box boxes
tomato tomatoes
4. Nouns ending in a vowel + y take –s.
E.g.
day days
boy boys
Nouns ending in a consonant + y drop the
-y and take -ies.
E.g.
cherry cherries
baby babies
5. Nouns ending in -f / -fe drop the -f / -fe and
take -ves.
E.g.
knife knives
shelf shelves
Some plurals have irregular forms.
E.g.
man men
tooth teeth
person people
