Summary of “IDENTITY ISSUES” When she was at her high school, Nina was thinking a lot about her background. She was considering her background diverse because her father is Mexican and her mother is Salvadoran. Also, she called “Mexican” and “beaner” !! so people believed that she is Mexican because she is Tan but she felt ashamed and she has to believe the fact that she is half Mexican and half Salvadoran, and she was born in America. She was getting mad of her boyfriend because he mentioned about traveling to Europe because she thought that the European are white so when they come to the United State, people don’t care because they are white, their skin and their pigment. When she entered to the college, she was afraid her friend would not be her friends anymore because she felt that speaking Spanish was bad. She could not get her mind to settle on being American, Mexican, Salvadoran or just plain Hispanic.
