The American Red Cross is an international
humanitarian organization that is dedicated to providing
assistance and relief to those who experience natural
disasters or other emergencies. One of the oldest
humanitarian nonprofits in the world, the American Red
Cross was founded in 1881, and has since played an
instrumental role in relief efforts during both national
and international crises.
3. American Red Cross
• In addition to its volunteer efforts, the American Red
Cross encourages young adults and college students to
get involved in its mission. One such way the nonprofit
does this is through its Campus LEAD (Leadership,
Education, and Development) Program. The initiative is
intended for MBA and MPA candidates, and is a two- or
three-year paid employment opportunity that allows
students interested in working with the American Red
Cross to acclimate themselves to the rigors of leading
teams and working internationally with the organization.
Numerous positions within the Red Cross are available
for students in the program, and oftentimes these
candidates go on to major leadership roles within the
organization itself.
