SILENT FEATURES
1. The Annonaceae family of flowering plant consisting of trees shrubs of rarely
2. commonly known as the custored opple
3. family Or Soursop family with the 108 accepted genera and about 2400 known species.
4. It is the largest family in the magnoliales
5. Several genera produce edible fruit most notably Annona, Anonidium, Asimina Rellinia and
uvaria
 Its type genus is Annona
 the family is concentrated in the tropics, with few species found in temperate regions
 About 900 species are neatopical 450 are Afrotropical and the remaining are Indomalayan
 Bark leaves and roots of several species are important in folk medicine and other are important
sources of perfume spice
 the radially symmetrical flowers are Usually bisexual
 In most species the three sepals are United at the base
 there, are six brown, yellow or greenish Petals many stamens in a spiral & many pistals each
with a one. Chambered every containing many ovules.
 The fruit is a berry flowness in same species are borne directly on longe branches
 the leaves and wood are often fragrant
 the family Annonaceae have Simple leaves with smooth margins
Economic Importantce
1. FOOD
 The fleshy fruits of various Annona specific are juicy and edible and also
used in preparation of soft doinks and Jellies. Recent analysis shows that
they contain about 18 per cent sugar
2.TIMBER
 Bocagea virgata B. Laurifolia. Cynthocalyx zeyanicus Daguetia quitarensis
axcandra lanceolata and Eupormatia laurina yield useful timber
3.OIL
 The flowers of Desmos chinensis furnish Macassar oil a perfume the perfume
is also cotained from mkilua, frangrans and Specially liked by Arab women.
4.FIBRE
 The bark of Goniothalamus wightii produces strong fibre
5.ORNAMENTAL
 Artabotrys odorctissimiss and Annona discolor are grown in garden for their
Scented flowers Desmes chinensis is an ornamental trees
