Fungi are eukaryotic heterotrophs that feed by absorbing nutrients from outside their bodies. They have cell walls composed of chitin and their multicellular forms grow as networks of filaments called hyphae that can form tangled masses called mycelium in soil. Fungi reproduce both sexually through the fusion of compatible hyphae to form zygotes and asexually through spores. Common types of fungi include zygomycetes, sac fungi, yeasts, club fungi and imperfect fungi.
