2. Pitch
• My documentary’s concept is about the nowadays’ issue of spending so much time in
front of our ICT devices.
• The format is series. As the problem I am looking at is a really broad one, I will make an
episode of the whole series, looking at a few parts of the problem.
• The characters I intend to include in my film are going to be the students, teachers and
staff in my school, as well as random people I don’t know.
• Currently, I have decided that I am going to be ‘the narrator’.
• Atmosphere, tone: Casual, not sad, but not necessarily happy
However, I will try to create a feel of suspense, as the audience wouldn’t know what
will happen next in the documentary.
• The programmer is Channel 4.
• My target audience are teenagers and adults.
3. A short synopsis
• My documentary will look at different aspects of being online, using the
internet. It will present different age groups’ point of views, creating a
comparison between the generations. It’s going to include interviews with
pupils, students, teachers, staff of the school, as well as other random people.
They will be asked questions about the time they spend in front of the screen,
what they use it for, do they think that it is useful or are they losing their time,
do they have the will to spend less time on social medias etc.
4. Treatment
• There might be photographs of some ICT devices and archival footage of some events,
discussions (especially in the introduction, where I introduce my topic). I can use
voiceover while showing them.
5. Why have I chosen this topic?
• I have decided to make a documentary on this topic as I think that it is a growing issue.
The school environment is a good location for filming as students and teachers can talk
about both pros and cons of being online. Students can share their experience and
comment on whether they mostly use the internet to help their school studies or waste
their time on social networks, playing games etc.
