        WikiSym 2008
The “All You Want To Know About Wiki” Conference
WikiSym 2008
WikiSym 2008

The conference was held in Porto, Portugal — one of
Europe’s most ancient cities, “home of port wine”
WikiSym 2008

There are many different bridges in Porto,
this particular one was designed by Gustave Eiffel him...
WikiSym 2008

FEUP (Engineering Faculty of University of Porto) hosted
all official WikiSym events and sections
WikiSym 2008

More than 130 people from 21 different countries were
             talking on different topics
WikiSym 2008

Wikipedia was the largest topic to talk, of course.
WikiSym 2008

There were many discussions on intranet wiki: how it is
implemented, adopted and used, what benefits bring...
WikiSym 2008

And a plenty of wiki-engine developers: TikiWiki, XWiki,
     TWiki, WikkaWiki, WackoWiki, ShyWiki etc.
WikiSym 2008

WikiHouse Party was great,
     thank you guys!
WikiSym 2008

There were keynote sections— Very Very Wise People
sharing their thoughts to (almost) silent audience
WikiSym 2008

Paper Sections, Workshops & Doctoral Space were
conducted as quick-paced sequence of several speakers
WikiSym 2008

More informal formats were fulfilled with discussion
WikiSym 2008

OpenSpace format was successfully used to spawn great
            number of interesting topics
WikiSym 2008

Anyone with a topic in mind could write it down, announce
and place it in one of remaining timetable...
WikiSym 2008

We have found our most interesting and important
       discussions in OpenSpace sessions
WikiSym 2008

English seems to be WikiSym’s lingua franca, though it was
a foreign language for most of people talk...
WikiSym 2008

There were only 2-4 persons talked in a typical
      (spontaneous) OpenSpace session
WikiSym 2008

Deeper discussion requires some organization.
How did OpenSpace organizers provide it?
WikiSym 2008

Participants can work on their starting thoughts
            individually — on Post-Its
WikiSym 2008

Groupwork is a integrational tool: for example, clustering
      Post-Its on whiteboard during discussions
WikiSym 2008

Meeting report is conducted in wiki and presented to
            participants thru projector
WikiSym 2008

          As a concluding result,
WikiSym conference was useful & entertaining!
