Food waste is a major problem in Arab countries, where about 40 million tonnes of food is wasted each year. UAE residents waste between 177-400 kg of food per person annually, with 38% of waste coming from households and the rest from markets, restaurants, and hotels. Reducing food waste by 20% globally could feed an additional 25 million people. Efforts like innovations to extend food freshness and prevent pest damage can help reduce wastage. Programs that encourage appreciating food can also help address the issue.
