The document discusses different audiences for urban films like Kidulthood. Teenagers are an obvious target audience as the films depict teenage life and experiences. Parents may also watch such films to understand what youth culture involves and to see if their own children show any signs of related behaviors. Men in their 20s who grew up on the streets can similarly relate to the depictions of criminal lifestyles in urban films and may reconsider their own paths after seeing the consequences shown.
Teenagers, Parents and Ex-Criminals Relate to Urban Films Like Kidulthood
1.
2. The first obvious audience for urban films such as Kidulthood would be
teenagers as most of the film is about teenagers and how they are living
their life on the streets of London. This means that many teenagers can
relate to this film as they may be doing similar things in their lives whether
in London or not they could still be in the streets associating themselves
with things like guns and drugs. We see a lot of drug-use, knives and
guns in urban films, some teenagers may already be involved in criminal
activities and these films may help them realize what they are doing is
wrong or they may end up being killed if they continue living the way they
are. At the end of Kidulthood we see the death of a young teenager which
could get others thinking.
3. ADULTS
Parents may want to watch urban films as they want to know what the youth get up to, they
may see things which they have not before. For example parents may watch part of these
films with their teenage children. This will give them an inside view of what goes on in the
streets and will help them figure out if their son or daughter is involved in these activities.
Another audience for urban films is men in their
20’s. These men have grown up on the streets and
are still on the streets making their money in their
many ways. Urban films would be films which they
can relate to as they may live a similar life. For
example The Trap Movie was a urban low budget
film which featured many underground rappers.
Many of them were living a life of crime before they
started music. We follow Marcel as he juggles two
different lifestyles, he has great potential as a artist
but he is also on road and after his close friend
dies he has choices to make. This again may
make people think about the life they are living.
