2. Basic terminology
 Web-page : collection of electronic information.
 Website : collection of web-pages related to particular theme.
 Domain name : It is impossible to remember all the addresses of the website by using their IP
Number , domain name translates the web_url to IP_number.
 Search Engine : A program which search the contents from the web; search engine is having one
program called “spider” which moves around the web pick the contents and address(url) and
place in the huge index.
 Hit : The results against the search string is known as hits.

3. Basic Search
 Open a browser; type google.co.in in address bar and press enter.
 Search :
 Enter search string :
 Google Search button : It will show all results related to search.
 I’m feeling lucky : It will directly moves to the first web-page; that will be first in the list.
 Entering keyword ; exact keywords
eg_ 01: use “segate hard disk”
rather than “hard disk of segate”.
eg_ 02 : use “travel air”
rather than “travel by air”.

4. Language option
 Can choose number of languages from the list available in the google page.

5. Information page
 Gives the info on “terms and conditions” / “Advertising programme” and much
more…

6. Searching particular word in the string
 Add
+ for adding particular word in search (prefix symbol “+” without
adding space)
 eg 01 : segate +harddisk
 eg 02 : manu +mahajan

7. Excluding particular word in the string
 Exclude word :
 - for excluding particular word from the search
eg 01 : Manu –Mahajan
eg 02 : Segate -harddisk
eg 03 : Virus -computer

8. When we can’t decide
 First word OR Second Word OR Third word

9. Searching exact string
 “string we need to search”
 Using quotation mark on both sides of the string

10. Searching text in particular website/domain
 Keyword site:www.abc.co.in
 Keyword site:.in
 Keyword site:.edu
 Keyword -site:www.facebook.com
 “search string” site:www.Wikipedia.com

11. Searching with synonyms
 Use ~ (tilde) symbol
 ~car search for words and synonyms
 Specific search :
 ~car –bmw (search all cars and exclude bmw car)

 Asterisk *
 Question mark ?

13. Number search
 Eg ; search between ages 5…10
 It will search for the ages between 5 to 10
 Eg : search between amount

 Eg : search between number with exact keywords
 “book title” amounting Rs189…Rs543

 Allintitle : title
 Search all keywords with in titles.
 Eg : allintitle:dogcare
