4. In the UAE, we're dealing with a big
problem – too much fishing, which
is hurting our local waters and the
people who fish for a living. The
fish we rely on, like hamour, shaari,
and farsh, are getting fewer and
fewer. Mr. Ahmed Al Hashmi says
adult hamour, a fish we really
value, dropped a lot – by 90%!
This is bad news for our
fishermen. Also, Dr. Enrico Di
Minin found that the way we fish is
harming not just the fish but also
the sharks. It's like a chain
reaction that messes up our whole
sea world. To fix this, everyone –
the government and fishermen –
needs to work together

AN APPROACHING CRISIS

6. TEAMWORK OF THE GOVERNMENT
AND THE FISHERMEN'S COMMUNITIES
To fix the fishing problem, both the
government and fishermen need to
team up. The government can make
rules, and the fishermen can share
their knowledge about what works
best. When we join together, we can
make sure that our sea stays healthy.

8. Causes:
• High Demand
• Illegal Fishing
• Bycatch
Effects:
• Depleted Fish Stocks
• Ecosystem Imbalance
• Economic Consequences
Causes & Effects of Overfishing:
10. 01 International Collaboration:
By talking and sharing ideas with different nations, the goverment can come up with
plans to manage
fi
shing better on a global scale. Fishermen also play a crucial part
by teaming up with other
fi
shermen from around the world. Sharing what they know
and learning from each other helps in
fi
nding solutions together. This teamwork
between governments and
fi
shermen from different countries is essential to protect
our oceans and make sure
fi
shing is sustainable for everyone.
11. 02 License Requirement:
Fishing in the UAE should be regulated through
licenses, ensuring that individuals engaged in
fi
shing
are accountable and follow established guidelines.
12. 03CATCH LIMITS AND PROTECTION:
By establishing regulations like catch limits to stop overfishing,
the government maintains an appropriate equilibrium in fishing.
To maintain sustainable fishing and save fish, fishermen have to
adhere to these regulations. Together, we can better coordinate
human activity with that of the oceans.
15. A Call to Action for a Sustainable Future
In conclusion, urgent action is needed to combat
overfishing in the UAE, as key fish species face
a drastic decline. Collaboration between the
government, fishermen, and the community is
crucial, recognizing the global impact of this
issue.
