3. Spanish Constitution
The Spanish Constitution is
the most important law in
Spain. It makes Spain a
democracy. A democracy is
where all the citizens have
equal rights and duties.
5. Head of State
Felipe Vl became king in 2014.
Spain is a parliamentary monarchy. This
means that the Head of State is the king.
The king does not govern the country nor
establish the laws. His main function is to
represent Spain.
6. Parliament
The Spanish Parliament, (Las Cortes
Generales), represents the Spanish people.
lt is made up of the Congress of Deputies
and the Senate.
The Parliament establishes the laws and
controls the government.
11. The National Government
The Government runs the country. The
head is the President. He is helped by his
ministers.
12. The Courts of Justice
The Courts of Justice judge people who do
not obey the laws. The court's members are
judges and magistrates. There are many
different types of courts. The most
important court is the Supreme Court.
14. The Constitutional Court
This is a special court designed to enforce
the laws of the Constitution. lts members
are specialist judges.
These members study the law and make
sure it is in agreement with the Spanish
Constitution.
