((dop)) is a student organization at Loyola University that plans over 150 events per year for the student body. It is made up of 7 committees and 60 members with a budget of over $350,000. ((dop)) believes in making the Loyola community a better place through social change and ensuring all students can participate in events. While sometimes challenging to program with competition from the city, ((dop)) does not want any groups like Greek life or commuters to feel left out. The organization aims to pull from different campus sectors to guide programming in a way that contributes to being a Rambler in keeping with its foundation of beliefs.
2. Ethics?
Everyone one, whether conscious or not, frames
their life around some concept of ethics
When people come together, like in an
organization, their belief systems begin to merge
and mix
Often times these combinations produce whole
and grounded approaches to a variety of issues
However, sometimes conflict can arise
3. The Social Change Model
Requires transformation of idea and individual
Must have a solid foundation of ethics/beliefs
How can society be bettered by one’s leadership
position
A leader must learn as much as he/she directs
The outcome is a more accepting/whole
community
4. ((dop))
The ((dop)) plans and executes over 150 events
for the student body every school year
Made up of 7 different committees, 60 members
work on a variety of events
Colossus, our largest event, will sell over 5,000
tickets
We have a working budget of just over $350,000
Result: a lot of moving parts
5. ((dop))’s Ethics
((dop)) believes that everyone should have the
right to participate and contribute to the
organization
((dop)) is trying to make the Loyola community a
better place to live and work in
No event is too out there or too difficult to
program
If someone feels we are lacking in a certain are,
we encourage them to help us improve
6. ((dop)) and Social Change
The entire mission of ((dop)) is to create social change
within the Loyola community
Often it is difficult because we have to program in
competition with the city
We do not want to leave any sector out of the equation
An area ((dop)) previously never programmed for was
Greek Life and commuter students
Today: We can co sponsoring the largest Greek Life
philanthropy on campus- SAE’s St. Baldrick’s Day. We also
have an event per month solely focused on the needs of
commuter students
7. Conclusion
((dop)) is in a unique opportunity to pull from the
many sectors of campus and help program
towards them
((dop)), just like the Social Change
Model, requires a set foundation of beliefs, which
guide us in the direction of the future
((dop)) prides itself on our contribution to what it
means to be a RAMBLER!
