TWO INVENTIONS
&
By: Mihai and Irati
THE RADIO
The radio has been the first
device to allow for mass
communication. It has enabled
information to be transferred
far and wide, nationally and
internationally.
In 1885 Heinrich Rudolf Hertz
proved that radiation was possible
using a high-voltage alternating
current that generated sparks
between two metal balls. The
sparks produced an electromagnetic
radiation.
Next year, he carried out the
first radio transmissions.
In 1896, a Russian researcher, called Alexander S.Popov,
trasmitted by radio in Morse the first words.
So who was the inventor of the
radio?
The inventor of the radio was Guglielmo Marconi, in
1896, who was the first one finding a practical
application to Hertz´s theories.
?
But there is quite controversy with
this information. Some people,
confirm that the real inventor of the
radio was Nikola Tesla, because he
studied the radio at the same time as
Marconi.
The first radio broadcast took place in 1906 by
professor Reginald Aubrey Fessenden. In 1910, the
investigations of two North Americans led to the
invention of Galena radio, which was the first radio
device in history. In 1922, the radio was introduced
into cars.
At that time, the radio was a device
that few people could own, since it
was very expensive. Aside, it was
also very big and it weighed a lot.
But thanks to electronic advances,
nowadays, almost everyone has a radio
and it occupies very little space.

The benefits include on-damange transportation, mobility, independece and
convenience. The social benefits include economic benefits such as job and
wealth creation from automotive industry.
Thirty American manufacturers produced 2,500 motor vehicles in 1899, and some
485 companies entered the business in the next decade. In 1908 Herny Ford
introduced the Model T and William Durant founded General Motors.
The new firms operated in an unprecedented seller’s market for an expensive
consumer goods item. With its vast land area and a hinterland of scattered and
isolated settlements, the United States had a far greater need for automotive
transportation than the nations of Europe. Great demand was ensured, too, by a
significantly higher per capita income and more equitable income distribution
than European countries.

Kalr Benz invented the three-wheeled Motor Car, known as the "Motorwagen," in
1886. It was the first true, modern automobile. Benz also patented his own
throttle system, spark plugs, gear shifters, a water radiator, a carburetor and
other fundamentals to the automobile. Benz eventually built a car company that
still exists today as the Daimler Group.
Karl Benz gets the credit for inventing the automobile because his car was
practical, used a gasoline-powered internal-combustion engine and worked like
modern cars do today.
