  1. 1. History of radio In order for the radio to become the way it is today, it had to go through many developments and discoveries by important people such as Guglielmo Marconi andEdwin Howard Armstrong , startingwith the discovery of radio waves.
  2. 2. 1866. A successful example of wireless telegraphy wascarried out by an America dentist Mahlon Loomis. He didthis by making a meter connected to a kite cause anotherone to move.1886. Heinrich Rudolph Hertz showed how rapid variationsof electric current could be projected into space in the formof radio waves.1902. The first successful transatlantic radiotelegraphmessage was made by an Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi. It was sent from England and arrived in Newfoundland twoyears later.1903. Greetings between President Theodore Roosevelt andKing Edward VII where carried out by a Marconi station inWellfleet.1905. Naval battle of Port Arthur in the Russo-Japanese warwas reported by wireless.

The first criminal was caught with the use ofradiotelegraphy this was possible because of Marconiopening a regular American-European radiotelegraphservice.1900s. Lee deforest created a detector that allowed radiofrequency signals picked up by the antenna to be amplifiedbefore application to the receiver detector this allowed eventhe signals that were weaker to be used. He was also theone who created AM radio which allowed the multitude ofradio stations.1919. Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was created inorder to allow people other than the army access to radiorights.

Stubblefield saying ¨hello Rainey¨ to a testpartner near Murray, Kentucky. 1906 was an experimentalprogram of talk and music by Reginald A. Fessenden.1880s Transmission and reception on the same aerialwithout interference was made possible though theinvention of modulation of radio waves ¨heterodyneprinciple¨ by Canadian Reginald A. Fessenden.1915. Speech was first transmitted across the continent ofAmerica (New York to San Francisco and across theAtlantic Ocean to the Eiffel tower.1920. The Harding Cox elections were carried out byWestinghouses KDKA-Pittsburgh and well as beginning adaily schedule of radio programmes.
  5. 5. 1927. Commercial radiotelephony that linked Europe withNorth America was opened. 1929. Telephone contact was possible between the shipand shore if it was 1,500 miles of shore.1935. The first telephone call across the globe was madeby using a combination of wire and radio circuits. 1933. FM Radio was created by Edwin HowardArmstrong. This allowed the noise statics caused byelectrical equipment to be controlled resulting in animproved radio signal.1936. Telephone connection by radio and cable becameaccessible for 187 foreign points.
  6. 6. 1954. Transistor radio was introduced by a Japanesecompany named Sony however it was only possible becauseof the invention of transistor in 1947 by Bell Lads.1965. The first Master FM Antenna system in the world wasinstalled in the empire state building to allow various FMStations to broadcast at the same time.
