up of Richard Ashcroft the lead singer, Nick McCabe the guitarist, Simon Jones the bass

-The bands big breakthrough was with the album ‘Urban Hymns’ in 1997, this then went
on to be one of the best selling albums in UK chart history. The single ‘bitter sweet
symphony’ then became a worldwide hit, going straight to no.2 In the UK charts.
-In 1998 the band then went on to win two Brit awards, ‘bitter sweet symphony’ was
then nominated for the Grammy award for ‘best rock song’.
3. - The verve have a very unique and different style from todays rock bands, however
some things are the same. For example they still have the don’t care attitude and
wear scruffy and baggy clothing to fit that ‘don’t care attitude’. However Richard
Ashcroft is a very strange but talented man in the fact that he has an amazing voice
but doesn’t act like the average person he has his own style.
- The verve came out and have said that their main influence for their own music and
albums, was in fact the Rolling stones with the song ‘Gimme shelter’.
- The song ‘bitter sweet symphony’ was a sober look at everyday life which was shown
through the line in the song ‘you’re a slave to money, then you die’. The song itself
was actually also written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and the publishing rights
behind the song actually went to Allen Klein who was the ‘rolling stones’ former
manager.
