2. EARLY YEARS
• left school at the age of 15 and went to work in an egg packing factory for
£39 per week.
• Ran away to London with hard rock band Heretic, working as their lighting
engineer, record sleeve artist, wardrobe designer and mechanic.
• Her great ambition was to become a music journalist, so she produced a
fanzine called Krush and sent it to the editor of Sounds music paper which
landed her a job with them at the age of 19.
• She went to work for NME and served as UK correspondent in Canada on
CBC Radio, filing a weekly music report. This contributed to her big break
in radio with BBC, working alongside Mark Lamarr.
3. EARLY YEARS
• Helped found Loaded Magazine
• Narrated the BBC science series Why 5 in 2000.
• Shot a TV series about global biker culture 'Mary Anne's Bikes' for BBC in
2003
• Hosted the Leeds Music Festival between 1999 and 2003.
• Presented the World Superbikes series 2005 for British Eurosport.
4. RADIO SHOWS
• Fronted the Radio 1 Rock Show from 1999-2005
• Created BBC Radio 1 electronic show
‘Experimental’ after fourteen years at the network
• Was a champion of early dubstep and grime and hosted the
legendary 'Dubstep Warz' special on BBC Radio 1 starting in 2006.
• 'Dubstep Warz' is widely regarded as the show that broke the
dubstep sound globally.
• On July 23, 2010 announced she was leaving BBC Radio 1 to
spend a year mentoring students at the University of Sheffield Union
of Students.
5. RADIO SHOWS
• Returned to XFM radio in the primetime slot (7-10pm Saturdays) to play
electronic music on July 9, 2011
• Began hosting the re-launched evening show "Music:Response” in
September 2011.
• Became Weekend Breakfast presenter for BBC Radio 6 Music in
December 2012.
• Now hosts a specialist show called '6 Music Recommends' Wednesday
night into Thursday morning.
6. LIVE DJING
• Hobbs has toured as a live DJ and curated events internationally since
2006.
• In June 2007, she curated the UK Dubstep showcase at the Sonar festival
with Skream, Oris Jay, and Kode9, taking the sound onto an international
festival stage for the first time.
• She went on to do 3 more Sonar showcases from 2008-2010.
• In 2011 she played solo to an audience of 15,000 people at Sonar
• In 2012 she created 'Decent Into Darkness’, a performance with techno
producer Blawan.
• She returned solo in 2013 for the festival's 20th anniversary.
7. DISCOGRAPHY
• Released a dark electronic compilation album on Planet Mu records
entitled Warrior Dubz in October 2006
• Followed this with two more compilations Evangeline, released in
June 2008, and
• Wild Angels in September 2009.
• Worked on the Grammy nominated soundtrack for Black Swan.
