2. Overview
This short film chronicles the ordeal of a mother
and daughter dealing with Alzheimer's from the
point of view of the Alzheimer's patient as there
is a voiceover with her talking to her daughter.
The film also contains some bits where the
daughter’s voice is heard.
3. Medium shot.
Mise-en-scene family photos shows she
was a woman with a good life.
Close up.
Lighting – half of her face is lit up and the other is
blacked out. This suggests that half of her mind may be
lost and confused.
4. Close up of the daughter of the older
woman. Her facial expression and
gesture suggests she is worried about
her mother.
Medium shot of old woman and medium long shot of
the daughter.
Old woman looks blank and lost and daughter looks
worried again and also sad as she will feel sorry for
her mother experiencing this deterioration.
5. • These clips show her deterioration as she is doing things that she wouldn’t normally
do, showing the effects of her disease.
• The first clip shows her drinking some water but not correctly as she is spilling in on
herself. It is a medium close up.
• The second clip shows her eating cereal with her hands, and her daughter trying to
keep her right by handing her a spoon and trying to do it for her. This is a medium
shot.
• The third clip shows her putting a towel in the oven, portraying her confusion to
simple tasks. This is a medium shot.
6. • Both of these clips are a medium close up.
• The first clip presents her as blank-faced and lost and the second clip shows her smiling.
This indicates that her mood can change quickly.
• The daughter is brushing her mother’s hair since she is now incapable of doing it herself.
7. Medium close up of the two. The daughter is
holding her hand implying that she is
supporting her and with her every step of
the way. The old woman is slightly smiling at
her daughter which suggests that she is
happy she is with her and that she
recognises her.
Extreme close up of the old woman. Her
facial expression has changed as her slight
smile has disappeared. This suggests that
she has returned into the unknown and she
is no longer aware of the situation.
