Definition
• According to the oxford dictionary poverty is a
state of being extremely poor.
• ii) Also poverty is the state Of being inferior
inequity or insufficient in amount. Poverty has
some synonymous for example scarcity,
deficiency, shortage ,absence lack, and
limitedness.
• Alim barken(2015)came up with relative poverty and this is usually in
relation to other members and families in the society. For example a
family can be considered poor if it cannot afford vocations or cannot
buy presents for children for Christmas or cannot send children to the
university even though they have access to government.
• Okumbe.j.k.(2012) came up with another type of poverty called the
situational poverty . He said that people or families can be poor
because of the adversities like earthquakes , floods or a serious
illnesses.
• Joseph. Rowntree(2014) came up with another type of poverty called
generational .This is a more complicated type and we will see a
detailed example, this is when poverty is handed over to individuals
and families from generations before them in this type there is
usually no excape from it as people are trapped in because they have
no access to tools that will help them get out of it.
Poverty cycle
• A very poor family with children have very little to eat, and
have no access to health facilities. As a result, the children
are malnourished and unhealthy and have many health
complications. They are therefore unable to go to school
(even if there is a school in the next village). They grow up
with no education or skill and cannot do any economic
activity. Their parent die from preventable diseases as a
result of the lack of health facilities, and their fate is in their
hands. As the children turn adults, they find wives who are
just on the same level of poverty as them, and they have
their own children. They hand over this condition to their
children, who will also grow up in similar conditions.PROVERB

causes of poverty
low agricultural production;this simply means that most of people if
not everyone needs food so as to carry on with their daily activities
hence when there is low agricultural productivity in a country then most
of their people will be termed poor
•
• insecurity; insecurity is also another great cause of poverty in a
country. When there is no peace and stability then the poverty level
will definitely increase
• unemployment and low wages
• landlessness
•
• High population growth
• Natural disasters.
IMPACT OF POVERTY ON EDUCATION
•
• According to Ferguson J.B.(2014) Education is a human right it empowers people to survive
and thrive and is. Our Most effective weapon against poverty.
• Poverty has always been around since the intervention of money since some families can't
pay for education that's why kids cant get the education they deserve and they often grow
homeless and that is why poverty is getting worse everyday due to lack of education.
•
• Nasiru.W.0(2017) said that the impact to education is that we cannot stop poverty without
good quality education, also poverty include hunger and malnutrition in that if the children
go to school without food they may not concentrate in their studies and this is going to
affect their education.
•
• Currently the Kenya primary education is free but still regular attendance is a challenge
mainly to low incomes this is because even if education is free NO funds from parents to
buy uniform's and food to this children and this has affected education goals ..
•
• Another impact on education is that when their is poverty the dreams of children are cut
due to lack of finances to enhance them further their studies for example joining secondary
colleges and universities
•
• Another impact of poverty on education is that children will loose hope in their studies
because they will know that even if they work hard their parents don't have finances to
help them to continue to next levels and this is going to affect their education
• Lack of enough schools in the country , hence many of the
learners are denied the opportunity to be in schools.
• Increased theft cases at school so that others to satisfy
there needs.
• Increased rate of dropouts , many have decided to settle
their own situation than being at school.eg getting
employs ,betting, prostitutions etc.
BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
• In the Bible God speaks often of the poor and needy. He commands us
to generously give to the poor..
• PROVERS 31:8_9 Speak up for people who cannot speak for
themselves protect the Rights of all who are helpless speak for them
and be righteousness judge protect the rights of the poor and needy.
• PROVERB 6:10I will just take a short nap he says I will fold my hands
and rest a while but while he sleeps poverty will attack him an like an
armed robber.
• LUKE 12:33 _34 Sell all your belonging and give the money to the
poor. Provide for yourselves purses that's don't wear out and save
your riches in heaven where they will never decrease for your heart
will always be where your riches are
• 1ST TIMOTHY 6:18
Command them to do good and to be rich in good work's to be generous
and ready to share others .in this way they will store up for themselves
a treasure which will be a solid foundation for the future. And then
they will be able to win the life which is true life..

RECOMANDATIONS•
• i)The people directly affected by the problems of the poverty have to be
actively and authentically participating in the effort to fight poverty. This
means that the affected people themselves will be the major participants of
the intervention to fight poverty not only the formal leaders need to be
consulted ones .Their worldview and situation should be taken into
consideration and through facilitation they become part of the process.
• ii)The people affected need to identify the issues .it is more effective when
issues and problems are identified by the people. They then begin to gain self
confidence and acquire capabilities in working together on dimple problems it
is identifying and acting on simple issues or problems that affected people gain
self confidence , well thought introduced projects can help fight poverty.
• iii) create an organization group within the community
• This will help many people rather than working with few individuals it Will
facilitate collective and organized action to help strengthen and empower
people in poverty through and organization.. This means that it is not enough to
provide assistance to individually affected person alone but through collective
organizations.
• iv)understanding and solving problems
• People in poverty need to understand that they can often address and solve
their own issues .The affected people going through the process of fighting
poverty should have a raised level of consciousness about their situation and
their capabilities in order to sustain their collective efforts and address' other
issues arising.

CONCLUSION
• It is not simple especially if we want a deep
transformation to take place to those affected
.it takes time to enable facilitate to the
affected people so they can break the culture
of silence and become actors of their own
development.
