Our personal power comes from the wisdom we employ. There are two sources of wisdom for us to draw on, Heavnely wisdom and Earthly wisdom. One leads to life and peace and the other to death and destruction.

Power source
1.
2. Personal Power Power - The ability or capacity to perform or act effectively. Personal Power - Influence over others, the source of which resides in the person instead of being vested by the position he or she holds. Wisdom is the beginning of power
3. Jas 3:13-18 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. (14) But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. (15) This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. (16) For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. (17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. (18) Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
4. Two Power Sources Heavenly Wisdom (Godly) Earthly Wisdom (Demonic) Wisdom The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight. Moral capability, to know what is right and how to apply it for good.
5. Heavenly Wisdom Meekness = Power under Control Joh 19:10-11 Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?" (11) Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

7. Heavenly Wisdom “I believe the first test of a truly great man is his humility. I do not mean by humility, doubt of his own power, or hesitation in speaking his opinion. But really great men have a ... feeling that the greatness is not in them but through them; that they could not do or be anything else than God made them.” John Riskin
8. The Meek Shall inherit the Earth “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” Hebr 2:9
Editor's Notes
Our one son loves the zoo, he needs to go at least twice a year so needles to say that means we have to go twice a year. The zoo is great but it does leave a person a little sad when you see an animal caged up. I think of the Lions in the top cages, that powerful animal that just lies there, it’s choices are so limited, it eats when it’s food gets delivered there’s no space to run. It’s only when you hear it roar that you get some sense of the power this animal has but even that is hollow. Compare this to seeing a lion in the wild, we love going to the Kruger Park, everybody always wants to see lions but you can go for days without seeing one because they are free to do as they please.
Jack heard that his company was going to let several employees go in a month or so, and he had heard that he would be one of them. After reading a book on how to influence others, and practicing the subliminal techniques outlined there (they really do work), he decided to use his new powers to keep his job. With subtle tricks he convinced his boss that he was too valuable to let go. He even got a raise.Jack was thrilled at first, and quietly told a friend or two about what he had done, and confessed to how much more powerful he felt having learned about subliminal persuasion. However, years later he realized he never was suited to the job, and that keeping it had kept him from finding something more satisfying. Even worse, the raise he received contributed to a more costly lifestyle, which would be difficult to support with more interesting but lower-paying jobs. He felt trapped. The real problem here was that he didn't know Jack.
Meekness is power under control. It is the restraint of power for the accomplishment of a higher cause.Meekness is never to be confused with weakness. Weakness is the absence of strength and power, whenone has no options left. Meekness is possessing power, yet restraining oneself from using it, choosing to bemeek for redemptive purposes, for love. Meekness is also not to be confused with personality traits. A laidbackpersonality is not to be equated with meekness. An example of meekness versus weakness is clearlyseen in the courtroom scene with Jesus and Pontius Pilate, just prior to the crucifixion. John 19:10-11 says:Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, andpower to release You?" Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been givenyou from above." Some people today look at Jesus and say He was weak at that moment. This is not true.Jesus had power available to Him far beyond anything we could imagine. Yet He restrained Himself. Even atthe most crucial hour and most critical moment He responded to Pontius Pilate's false assessment of thesituation with the powerful truth.

“The people who hanged Christ never, to do them justice, accused him of being a bore — on the contrary, they thought him too dynamic to be safe. It has been left for later generations to muffle up that shattering personality and surround him with an atmosphere of tedium. We have very efficiently pared the claws of the Lion of Judah, certified him ‘meek and mild,’ and recommended him as a fitting household pet for pale curates and pious old ladies.” It is true that the Pharisees and political leaders saw Jesus as a very real threat. It was the zealots and even his disciples who thought of him as too meek. He did not use the language or the tactics of political liberators. He said things that inflamed those who wanted him to take action. He told them to put away their swords, for “all who draw the sword will die by the sword” (Matthew 26:52). But the authorities saw another power at work: meekness lived out in a simple life of obedience which taught a new way of living. They deemed him dangerous. The benefits of his meekness is that he became the ruler of the universe. The Bible says, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9). This lesson from the life of Jesus says that the meek win and the arrogant and powerful lose. This is heavenly wisdom, not worldly. Meekness is the quiet confidence that God is in control, and there are great rewards in that confidence. We are rewarded with peace.
