4. “If you don’t know that life is war,
then you don’t know what prayer is for.”
John Piper
5. We wrestle not against
flesh and blood
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness
in the heavenly places. Eph 6:12-13
6. Man is key to fulfilling His plan
Psalm 115:16, “The heavens are the
heavens of the Lord,
but the earth He has given to
the sons of men.”
8. Lessons on
Authority
Jesus said, “And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of
Heaven: and whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in
Heaven: and whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in
Heaven.” Matt 16:19
9. Planet earth 6,000 year lease
• And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me
in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am
with you always, even to the end of the age.“ - Matt 28:18-20
• The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the
children of men.- Ps 115:16
• Jesus came so we could reclaim what was lost.
– Lk 19:10
12. Inner Court vs Outer Court
King and Priest roles
Outer Court
Work/Calling
Inner Court
Intercession
King
Our public calling,
work, the physical
battle
Priest
Defeat principalities,
identify with those
we serve, enforce
covenant.
The depth of your root
system determines
your ability to withstand
attack in the Outer Court.
13. Jesus delegated authority to us to enforce the
Father’s covenants
Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom
to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule
and all authority and power.
– 1 Cor 15:24-25
Authority was “licensed” to us until Jesus returns. He is
waiting on us to exercise our authority in the inner
court. He intentionally limits His involvement.
We lose battles because of a failure to do the inner
court work. Greater the assignment, the greater
investment needed.
14. Why is their evil on earth?
• God lacks authority on earth because His
authority has been delegated to man.
• Man must accomplish God’s purposes on
earth as His representatives - prayer
• … the whole world lies under the sway of
the wicked one. I Jn 5: 19
15. God requires a human being to enforce
His covenants and will on earth
“So I sought for a man among them
who would make a wall, and stand
in the gap before Me on behalf of
the land, that I should not destroy it;
but I found no one. Therefore I have
poured out My indignation on them;
I have consumed them with the fire
of My wrath; and I have
recompensed their deeds on their
own heads," says the Lord God
(Ezek 22:30-31).
16. Isaiah 59:14-16
Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For
truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter.
So truth fails, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no
justice.
He saw that there was no man, And wondered that
there was no intercessor…
18. Intercessor
• The word intercessor comes from the
word “to intercede”—to intervene or
mediate on behalf of another.
• Called to be both king and priest.
Melchizedek - king and priest
• We too are called to both assignments.
19. To Him who loved us and washed us from our
sins in His own blood, and has made us kings
and priests to His God and Father, to Him be
glory and dominion forever and ever. - Rev 1:5-6
20. Moses
Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, ‘Oh,
these people have committed a great sin, and
have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now,
if You will forgive their sin — but if not, I pray, blot
me out of Your book which You have written.’"
(Ex 32:30-32).
21. Jesus is our intercessor and
advocate with the Father
For we do not have
a High Priest who
cannot sympathize
with our
weaknesses, but
was in all points
tempted as we are,
yet without sin. Let
us therefore come
boldly to the throne
of grace, that we
may obtain mercy
and find grace to
help in time of need.
(Heb 4:14-5:4).
23. Daniel’s Covenant Prayer Partners
“My decision is firm: if you do not
make known the dream to me,
and its interpretation, you shall be
cut in pieces, and your houses
shall be made an ash heap.”
Then Daniel went to his house, and made the
decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
his companions, that they might seek mercies
from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so
that Daniel and his companions might not perish
with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then the
secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So
Daniel blessed the God of heaven. - Daniel 2
26. “If you don’t break through in
the spiritual realm, don’t
attempt the physical.”
Joshua 6
27. Rees Howells, 1900s in Wales
3 Distinctives to Intercession
1) Identification
2) Agony - travail
3) Authority
28. “In intercession you bring the
person, or the circumstance
that impinges on you before
God until you are moved by His
attitude towards that person or
circumstance.”
Oswald Chambers
29. Every greatly used instrument
of God has been an intercessor
• John Wesley for backsliding England
• William Booth for the down and outs
• Hudson Taylor for China
• C.T. Studd for the unevangelized world.
31. Prayer is not about trying to get God to listen to
me; it’s about God trying to get me to listen to
Him.
So I sought for a man among them who would
make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on
behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it;
but I found no one. -Ezekiel 22:30
33. Rom 8:26-27
Likewise the Spirit also helps in
our weaknesses. For we do not
know what we should pray for
as we ought, but the Spirit
Himself makes intercession for
us with groanings which cannot
be uttered. Now He who
searches the hearts knows
what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He makes
intercession for the saints
according to the will of God.
34. “I now rejoice in my sufferings for
you, and fill up in my flesh what is
lacking in the afflictions of Christ,
for the sake of His body. . .”
- Col 1:24
Apostle Paul
35. Joseph hid behind the veil and interceded
for his brothers
Sent before them
through great hardship to save a family and
nation
36. We must understand Satan’s
entry points into our lives and lives
of others.
We must understand the
demonic gates into our cities.
?
37. Nothing in Jesus
“Hereafter I will not talk much with
you: for the prince of this world
cometh, and that nothing in me.”
Jn 14:30
Had no entry to Jesus’
life due to sinless life.
39. Praying as a son
Slave
Petitions, lists
Son
“What’s on your
heart, God?”
40. Are you ready to fulfill
your inner court assignment?
There are many people in prisons of their own making
but God wants you to be an instrument for their
deliverance.
41. Review
1. Intercession allows us to internalize and deepen our ownership of
the assignment.
2. Intercession forces us to sit quietly before God to clarify what we
are called to.
3. Intercession catalyzes the actions needed for fulfillment of the
vision by depending on the Holy Spirit to reveal our action steps.
4. Allows us to combine our faith to manifest God’s covenant
promises. i.e., Joshua & Caleb
42. Intercession through repentance must precede warfare
5. We have no authority to go in and tear
down the enemy’s strongholds until we
first deal with his legal right to be there
–due to our sins!
6. Sin enthrones principalities over your
marketplace and city
43. 2 Chron 7:14-15
If My people who are called by
My name will humble
themselves, and pray and seek
My face, and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear
from heaven, and will forgive
their sin and heal their land.
