Tv #20 simple house landscape with lokta paper

 1. 1. House on the Prairie Collage Watch “Lori Krein’s Art Studio” San Jose Comcast Channel 15 Thursdays at 6PM! Or watch on demand…
 2. 2. Intro

This is a simple collage that can be done in a short period of time. Sky, grass, a little house, and a path, all done with eco-friendly lokta paper from Nepal.

If you create thiis project, feel free to send me a phot and I'll put it up on my blog or Facebook page. Here’s your chance to share your creations with the world!

Questions? Email me at [email_address]

 3. 3. Supplies and Prep

You will need:

Decorative art papers (I used lokta paper for this project: light and dark blue, light and dark green, red, and black)

Canvas or any other flat surface (scrap piece of wood, or old plastic box fram primed with jesso or primer)

One inch, flat paint brush

Scissors

Acrylic matte medium mixed with water (3/4 medium, ¼ water)

Paper towels, small container of water, rag or old towel

To prepare for this project, cover a table with newspaper or an old tablecloth. Freezer paper taped to a cookie sheet works well.

Wear an apron or old clothing.

Lokta papers Acrylic Matte Medium
 4. 4. Steps

After you have primed your surface (or just use a pre-primed canvas)

Cut the light and dark blue paper into strips. Vary the width, and feel free to make the strips curved or straight. Experiment to see what you like!

Cut the dark green paper into various sized strips.

Begin glueing the light blue paper onto the canvas, then add dark blue over it, mostly near the top.

Glue down the green strips.

Cut out the house (red square and black for the roof, windows, and door) then glue it onto the canvas.

Cut a path from the light green paper. Glue it down so that it leads from the door down to the bottom edge of the canvas.

Be sure to press gently on top of the paper when glueing it down, to remove all air bubbles. You can put glue on top of the paper to make it easier to smooth it down.

Optional: When dry, coat with two layers of water-based poly urethane. Allow urethane to dry between coats.

You can find lots of decorative art papers on the internet. Some companies offer a sample book of the papers they sell. This will make it much easier for you to determine the texture of the various papers available.
