Tv #19 Simple Trees Collage

 1. 1. Simple Trees Collage LoriKreinStudios.com Watch “Lori Krein’s Art Studio” San Jose Comcast Channel 15 Thursdays at 6PM! Or watch on demand… www.CreaTVsj.com
 2. 2. Intro

This is a simple collage that can be done in a short period of time. Try experimenting with different colors for the sky, ground, and the trees. I used eco-friendly lokta paper from Nepal for this project.

If you create this project, feel free to send me a photo and I'll put it up on my blog or Facebook page. Here’s your chance to share your creations with the world!

Questions? Email me at [email_address]

 3. 3. Supplies and Prep

You will need:

Decorative art papers (I used lokta paper for this project: blue, yellow, red, and purple)

Canvas or any other flat surface (scrap piece of wood, or old plastic box fram primed with jesso or primer)

One inch, flat paint brush

Scissors

Acrylic matte medium mixed with water (3/4 medium, ¼ water)

Paper towels, small container of water, rag or old towel

To prepare for this project, cover a table with newspaper or an old tablecloth. Freezer paper taped to a cookie sheet works well.

Wear an apron or old clothing.

Lokta papers Acrylic Matte Medium
 4. 4. Steps

After you have primed your surface (or just use a pre-primed canvas)

Cut a piece of yellow paper (or choose another color for your background) to cover the top half of the canvas. Cut a piece of red for the ground.

Glue the yellow piece first. Place glue on the paper, then place paper on the canvas. Add a think layer of glue to the top of the paper, then gently smooth out the paper to remove all air bubbles.

Repeat the process with the red paper (or whichever color you have chosen for the ground)

Cut the trees from the purple paper (or color of your choice)

Cut slightly smaller trees from the blue paper.

Cut tree trunks from the black paper.

Glue the tree trunks on first.

Then glue on the purple trees, then ad the blue on top of the purple.

Optional: When dry, coat with two layers of water-based poly urethane. Allow urethane to dry between coats.

You can find lots of decorative art papers on the internet. Some companies offer a sample book of the papers they sell. This will make it much easier for you to determine the texture of the various papers available.
