Hayao Miyazaki was born in 1941 in Tokyo, Japan and was fascinated by animation after seeing his first feature-length color anime film in high school. He went on to work as an animator for 20 years before founding Studio Ghibli in 1985 with his mentor Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki.
