Hazel Grace Lancaster In The Fault In Our Stars
"Whenever you read a cancer booklet or a website or whatever, they always list depression as a side effect of cancer. But, in fact, depression is not
a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying"(3). Hazel Grace Lancaster is a 16 year old teen with stage 4 thyroid cancer and mets in
her lungs. She has managed to live due to an experimental drug called Phalanxifor. Hazels days are filled with going to the doctor, watching
ANTM(Americas Next Top Model) and reading An Imperial Affliction over and over, til she quotes the book on a daily basis. But, all those weary
days change when she meets the charming Augustus Waters at acancer support group. Now Hazel's life takes an unexpected detour on the path to self
discovery. Throughout the book The Fault In Our Stars, Hazel Grace Lancaster is portrayed by John Green as a witty, resilient and selfless young
woman.
In the book, Hazel has shown much of her witty personality. In one of the first pages of the book, Hazel introduces her humoristic personality when
she goes to the Cancer Support Group with this thought. "Like, I realize that this is irrational, but when they tell you, you have say, a 20 percent
chance of living five years,....you figure out that's one in five...and think, as any healthy person would: (I gotta outlast four of these bastards.)"(5).
Hazel was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when she was thirteen, unfortunately for her, she got her period three months later. "Like Congratulations!

The Psychosocial Intervention And Length Of Survival
Spiegel et al. found a significant relationship between the psychosocial intervention and length of survival (1989). Women in the treatment condition
attending support groups lived an average of 36 months compared to women in the control group who lived on average 18 months. Participants who
attended weekly support groups lived twice as long as those in the control group. This finding demonstrated the incredible positive impact social
support could have on patients with breast cancer. Social support increased immune functioning and survival rates, and Yilmaz, Bal, Benji, and Arvas
attributed this effect to the idea that social support impacted the way people chose to cope with a cancer diagnosis (2015). Yilmaz et al. studied 221
women with gynecologic cancer to investigate how coping with stress related to social support (2015). The cross–sectional study conducted in Turkey
collected data from three questionnaires that included sociodemographic and clinical features, the Scale of Ways of Coping With Stress, and the
Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support that measured social support within family, friends, and a significant other. Effective coping
strategies in the Scales of Ways of Coping With Stress included an optimistic approach, a self–confident approach, and seeking social support, while
ineffective coping strategies included a hopelessness approach and a submissive approach (Folkman & Lazarus, 1980). Researchers found that women

The Nurse 's Role With Patients
The Nurse's Role in Helping Patients Cope with Loss
Laurel Ellzey
Denver School of Nursing
Abstract
Death is a universal part of life. Everyone will eventually experience it. Nurses play an integral role with their patients when it comes to dealing with
bereavement, grief, and mourning. Nurses provide bereavement care by listening to patients, helping them express their emotions, and involving them
in the entire process. Nurses frequently tend to the emotional needs of their patients, but not their own, which can result in nurse burn–out. Nurses are
expected to be resilient when it comes to death, but when they sweep their emotions under the rug to get on with the day and are not given the
resources needed to grieve successfully, how can they achieve this?
The Nurse's Role with Patients and Loss
Death is a part of life and eventually everyone on this earth will experience it. Nurses play an important role with bereaved patients. Not only by
being there, but also because everyone grieves in their own way. However, for those experiencing disenfranchised grief, the process may be more
difficult. Mourning the death of a loved one is a natural response to death and Worden's four tasks allow those to progress through the tasks in any way.
Bereavement, grief, and mourning are all affected by one's culture, religion, and the relationship among deceased, their personality, and how the person
died.

INTRODUCTION OF SUPPORT GROUP & ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP Essay
INTRODUCTION Support groups bring together people facing similar issues, whether that's illness, relationship problems or major life changes.
Members of support groups often share experiences and advice. It can be helpful just getting to talk with other people who are in the same boat.
While not everyone wants or needs support beyond that offered by family and friends, you may find it helpful to turn to others outside your
immediate circle. A support group can help you cope better and feel less isolated as you make connections with others facing similar challenges. A
support group shouldn't replace your standard medical care, but it can be a valuable resource to help you cope (Staff, 2013).
Examples of support groups include those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Online support groups can help someone gain a sense of control or empowerment and reduce their levels of stress, depression, or anxiety by promoting
open, honest sharing of personal feelings, mutual emotional support, comfort, "virtual" hugging, sharing of practical treatment information, coping
strategies, personal experiences, and "success stories" by way of e–mails and Internet group discussion boards (Wessel, K, 1996).
Since at least 1982, the internet has provided a new venue for support group (John Schappi, 2012). Discussing online self–help support groups as the
precursor to e–therapy, Martha Ainsworth notes that "the enduring success of these groups has firmly established the potential of computer–mediated
communication to enable discussion of sensitive personal issues. For example Email, Usenet and internet bulletin boards have become popular
methods of communication for peer–to–peer self–help groups and facilitated support groups. Support groups have long offered companionship and
information for people coping with diseases or disabilities, and online situational oriented groups have expanded to offer support for people facing
various life circumstances, especially those involving personal and cultural relationships (Van Brunt, 2008).
A convenient aspect of online support groups is the around the clock availability to its members. People can go online to blog or chat with others
anytime of the day or night. There are no time

The Loss Of A Loved One Essay
The loss of a loved one is a very crucial time where an individual can experience depression, somatic symptoms, grief, and sadness. What will be
discussed throughout this paper is what the bereavement role is and its duration, as well as the definition of disenfranchised grief and who
experiences this type of grief. I will also touch upon the four tasks of mourning and how each bereaved individual must accomplish all four tasks
before mourning can be finalized. Lastly, with each of these topics, nursing implications will be outlined on how to care for bereaved individuals
and their families. The Bereavement Role The bereavement role is defined as temporary in duration and allows the bereaved to be excused from
daily responsibilities, to be dependent on others , and adjust to life after the death of a loved one (Leming & Dickinson, 2016, p. 492). The
bereavement role can also be seen, for example, when individuals play into the "sick role" (Leming & Dickinson, 2016, p.492). When individuals
are sick, they are excused from certain responsibilities for a brief period of time. This can be the same outlook for the bereavement role. Other
studies suggest the definition of the bereavement role as a "state of suffering or loss" (Hashim, Eng, Tohit & Wahab, 2013). When an individual is
placed in this role due to the death of a loved one, the bereaved individual turns to others for emotional support and gives up their control of
responsibilities to others (Leming & Dickinson, 2016,

Support Group That I Had Been At The Same Time
For this assignment I chose to go to a support group that I had been to before. I chose to do this because I wanted to see what would change or what
the differences, were between this time and the first time I had went to this meeting. This assignment was very interesting and very difficult for me at
the same time. The main reason it was so difficult for me, was I still am not driving too often. So this setback gave me more hurtles to jump over and
through, just so I could get to a meeting. Because of this I really struggled trying to find a support group that would actually allow me to attended
meetings at the times were people were available to drive me. Then once again it hit me, like before, I finely asked my friend if her mother who is a
nurse could help me out. My friend's mother said yes. She knew of a caregiver group a caregiver group for cancer and was even willing to drive me to
the group. The only terms were that I would feel out a paper saying I agreed to the conditions of the group. And the information shard in the meeting
at no circumstances was to be talked about outside the group. For this assignment I attended the Cancer Caregivers Support Group in the clinical
center at Froedtert Hospital. The meeting took place on October 22nd 2016 at night 5:30pm to 7:00pm at night. This caregiver group was a group of
fifteen to twenty people who specifically were planning on becoming a caregiver for a family member who was battling cancer. The meeting was held

Cancer Caregiver Support Groups
Caregiver support groups play a valuable role in assisting individuals with coping with a loved one's disease, injury and/or disorder. In this paper, I
will discuss the support group, topics discussed and my personal feelings about the support group.
To begin, on March 19, 2016, I attended a cancer caregiver support group facilitated by Peggy Morehouse, a social worker. The group began with
each group member sharing, in a circle, updates and challenges of the family members diagnosed with cancer in a circle. The group was an informal
model lead by group members. The informal model allowed members to offer empathy, support, referrals and insight as needed, rather than be forced
to cover specific topics.
Next, the group covered many different

Introduction Hope Cancer Resources is an organization that "provides compassionate, professional cancer support and education in the Northwest
Arkansas region today and tomorrow (Support Groups of NWA, n.d.)." Hope Cancer Resources serves a large variety of cancer patients in NWA and
surrounding areas, including Central Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. They provide many services and interventions to clients such as financial
assistance, emotional support, tobacco cessation, and transportation. From a social services perspective, one of their most effective interventions is
support groups. Hope Cancer Resources offers seventeen different supports groups that are diagnosis, gender, or activity specific. Many patients engage

At this point in time there is an open response section where the comments about support groups would go in. Instead of leaving the client to
answer open ended, a scale could be created that might target more specifically the objectives of the group. Implications of Further Research There
is a large base of research at this point in time about cancer support services, and more specifically support groups. As I worked through the research
I found that a majority of the research is very specified to a specific race, diagnosis, and emotional issue. I found it difficult to fin more general
studies that only tested the most basic questions. I propose that more research is done to look at cancer support on a macro–scale. Another thing I
noticed is that there is a large gap in research on stage four, or 'terminal' patients. I am unsure why this blank space exists, but I firmly believe that the
voice of those affected by stage four cancers should be heard. There are many misconceptions that the world has about stage four cancer, and I think
that conducting research on this subgroup would help to educate the population on what this stage of the disease truly

Modern Information Technology Has Developed A Way For People
Modern information technology has developed a way for people to receive support from others. Online social support is expanding as the general
public begins to feel comfortable using online social groups to seek support from others. Online social groups have extensive benefits for users who
are not able to or do not desire to attend face–to–face communication support. These groups have emerged within health care as a result of individuals'
needs. These individuals need to know more about their health conditions have driven many health groups to develop. Plenty of these online support
groups are in the form of blogs, such as mom blogs, bodybuilder blogs, health blogs, and healthy eating blogs. Furthermore, there are also certain online
support areas known as social media that allow people to share personal experiences or share current events in their life. Common examples of this
include: Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. At the present time, in North America alone, it is estimated that there are currently over 250 million people
who use the internet. Individuals may utilize the internet for an extensive amount of reasons, such as information gathering, entertainment, and
personal use. The idea of online support groups is relatively modern, having been around only for a decade or so. However, these social groups have
become a method to social support and positive health outcomes. Presently, there is a rich assortment of social support groups on the internet,

Examples Of Hypothyroidism In The Fault In Our Stars
A quote that changed who I was.
Optimistic or pessimistic, these were the two options I had when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This diagnoses is common in women, but
because they discovered it after many years I was put under observation in the hospital. The doctors were afraid that I might fall into a coma because
of a procedure that was done earlier before discovering my thyroid did not function properly. After being depressed and terrified, I stumbled up on a
quote from a book called The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and the character Augustus Waters said "It's a metaphor, see: You putthe killing thing
right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing.". (12). This is a simple quote that changed my perspective of how I viewed
the situation I was facing.
The Fault in Our Stars is a book about teenagers who were diagnosed with cancer. The main character of the book was a girl who had thyroid cancer
and her name is Hazel Grace. She fell in love with Augustus Waters who lost his legs due to cancer. They met each other at acancer support group and
both of them had passion for books. Hazel wanted to meet Peter Van Houten the author of the "An Imperial Affliction". Then Augustus was able to get

tried to find the positive in any negative situation. This is when I started to take care of my own health by doing everything as the doctor said. I
started to hang out more with my friends, in the beginning I never did so because I was always afraid of falling sick while I was with them. I was

She thought if that day was her day. As she would say, "My lungs suck at being lungs." I don't personally relate to her, I'm happier and I don't have

Internet access changes the way the we do things daily, we can bank online, apply for loans online, and go to school online, we can even attend group

Pros of having an effective online support group would be accessibility, being able to free from the constraints of time and distance. Members could
also feel free to join late and leave early when life's circumstances needed them to do so. Participants could also gain clarity from writing their feelings
and self–expressions down in order for others to read. Sufferers of rare conditions could meet over long distances and share their trials and tribulations
with each other. Drawbacks of possible internet support groups would include the technology required to access such groups, slower responsiveness
or feedback to thoughts and emotions especially if those thoughts are of hurting one's self or others. Inevitably the disinhibition that people sometimes
feel leads to a toxic group environment and a lack of empathy. Falseness also is a large issue to be addressed since there is no concrete evidence that

Abbey Dvorak'sMusic Therapy Support Groups For Cancer...
On average 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime (Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Statistics 2017). A side effect
of a cancer diagnosis is often significant stress. Still, stress is inevitable whether it is a personal or a loved one's sickness. Stress that is not dealt with
or is left to build up can cause many different health problems either with the cancer patients or family members. These health problems include high
blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and more (Mayo Clinic). Music, for many, is a way to cope with these issues because it serves as a relaxation
technique that reduces stress levels and anxiety. Abbey L. Dvorak published her peer–reviewed scholarly journal on cancer patients in the ... Show more

In her research, Dvorak also gives the readers a copy of what the participants were going to go through using the "Music Intervention Protocol" sheet
(Abbey L. Dvorak 79–81). The reader is fully aware of the situations the participants were going through and the choice of simple diction by Dvorak
further helps the reader easily follow along. The use of the diagrams helps the audience improve their understanding of the research and also builds on
Dvorak's credibility.
In her research, the author emphasizes who the experimenter is and their characteristics. She uses various diagrams to show the different details about
the participants and what the protocol required for music therapy is. Although Dvorak uses these techniques, she fails to clearly address the questions
that were asked to the participants during the three periods which she analyzed their overall mood. Like her diagrams that where easy to follow
Dvorak gave limited information on what the participants were asked to determine their mood. This information could have been helpful as the reader
could make their own assumptions on the questions and whether or not they are suitable for the experiment. The author explains to the readers what
type of questions were asked during the beginning, middle and end point of the experiment (Abbey L. Dvorak 76). However, she neglects to illustrate
the exact questions or similar questions that where asked. By adding a few questions that she might have asked into her paper

Small Group Observation Paper
Type, Purpose, and Dynamics of the Group
The Small Group Observation assignment provided the opportunity to experience a self–help group and better understand the intentions, purpose, and
functions of support groups. The particular group that I observed was provided through my field agency, Richland 2 School District, for all interns
serving as school social workers. The small group is considered a task group that is centered around giving an additional layer of support for graduate
students during their field placement experience. In addition, the group addresses the school setting, district expectations, processes events, and assists
when any stressful or unanticipated occasions occur throughout the semester. The group meets once monthly in a school conference room and
continues for two hours. Furthermore, two school social workers from the district facilitate the support groups for interns throughout their year of field
placement. The facilitators are not supervisors or preceptors for any of the group members. Each group consists of five group participants, all graduate
students in a Social Work Program. Although the students are each completing internships as school social workers, their standing and stages in the
coursework vary as some are part–time, full time, or advanced year. The group is established every year at the start of the fall semester and will
conclude at the end of the spring semester.

Dealing With Cancer
This actually was not the first time that I have seen this movie, but after learning about cancer for the past few weeks, I saw the film and characters in
a different way. Overall, I think the movie is a good depiction of the emotional stages someone might go through after being diagnosed with cancer,
and I think it also showed the physical affects of cancer pretty well for Adam and his chemotherapy friends. One thing I liked about the movie was that I
developed emotional connections with the characters. I felt anger at the ex–girlfriend for being selfish and heartless, I felt hopelessness for Adam when
the results of the chemotherapy came back ineffective, I felt love for Kyle when I saw the "Dealing With Cancer" book with notes and dog–eared
pages, and I felt pure joy when Adam came out of surgery and finally got a girlfriend and a life that he seemed to deserve so badly. One of the themes
that stuck out most to me throughout the movie was Adam's support system, or lack there of for most of the movie. It really made me think about how
important that is for someone going through cancer, but also anyone trying to recover from an illness or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I woke up with my mom telling me that my father and sister had gotten in a serious car accident on their way to school. The car was totaled, and
they were alive, but on the way to the hospital. I felt shock; similar to what I am sure Adam's mother and friend must have felt when they heard
about his cancer. It was a feeling of sadness, concern, anger, and confusion that resulted in a serious knot in my stomach and throat. As the shock of
what happened wears off, especially for my sister, I can see how important it is for her to be completely surrounded by people who love her as she
tries to process how serious the accident was. And, related to the movie, I could see how Adam really struggles when his own support system fails

identity crisis. Our narrator remains anonymous and never tells us his real name. In the novel he attends many support groups, and gives fake
names. The narrator is constantly battling with Tyler as Tyler comes and goes whenever he likes. The narrator works in an office job during the day
and his opposite personality Tyler works at night. The narrator struggles to differ dream from reality. The narrator says, "It's not clear if reality

also references in the novel when he is curious to know what death would be like. When fight club was in the first days of beginning, the narrator
let Taylor take charge of explaining the rules and taking the lead of the fights. The narrator only wants to destroy things. An example of this is when
the narrator fights the boy with the angel face at the fight club and nearly kills him. In the film, the narrator said he felt like destroying something
beautiful. Eventually the Tyler side of the narrator begins to take bigger control and desire o destruction grows. This is when project mayhem is
taken into full effect, and the goal is t destroy civilization and create a new civilization. This idea scres the narrator, so he goes to try to stop project
mayhem. Our narrator thinks about his work and applies his theories to the project and fight club, he really needs to end these things from moving
forward. The narrator successfully rids himself of Tyler, his opposite personality, after shooting himself in the mouth. The narrator had an identity crisis

Social Media 's Impact On Emotional Health
People are social creates. We thrive in a world of relationships. This is why social support and emotional health are correlated. Support is a very
large part of people's lives. However is our society today fit for social support? Social media has taken our sociality to a new level of connection. In
some way we are closer than we ever been but in other ways we have lost that social support. This can affect the emotional health of people it great
ways. First is the biggest impact that social media has and that is on teens and how they get their social support from twitter and snap chat rather than
going to someone face to face. Another way social media can impact emotional health is through online support groups. Finally how social media ...

The point being is that teens are going to the internet and social media for social support. It used to be teens would go to school counselors or

this should not be the end all and be all. Social media has a benefit to it and that is online support groups. Online support groups are a great way for

Traveling With Cancer
43 children per day or 15,780 children per year are expected to be diagnosed with cancer (Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation). Cancer
is an everyday struggle that families go through. The Fault in Our Stars is a novel written by John Green. Its purpose is to portray a teenagers life
with cancer. This book brings the reader's eye to eye with cancer patients Hazel and Augustus, and walks through the life and everyday struggle that
one faces. The Fault in Our Stars uses a realistic fiction story to accurately depict traveling with cancer, the support from others, and having a social life.
Green accurately portrays the struggle of traveling with cancer. Current advice regarding traveling with cancer argues that " Long flights pose a risk
of blood clots for every patient which may increase the risk of medical attention. A patient should also verify the health insurance, get assistance
throughout the flight, be prepared for infection, and consult with your medical team" ( McDonnell ). Mcdonnell offers information on how it is
difficult to cope with cancer in air services. The same type of situation is seen in The Fault in Our Stars when Augustus and Hazel wish to fly to

integrate wellness into anesthesia school, and give large discounts towards massage" (Chipas et al., 2012, p. 53).
Coping Mechanisms used among SRNAs For centuries, humans have pondered diverse mechanisms of how to effectively deal with stress. The typical
clinical setting of a SRNA consistently parallels the conditions that define a stressful environment. Dr. William Halstead, the New York surgeon
accredited with popularizing regional anesthesia in the United States, used cocaine outside of the clinical setting as a method of coping with the
rigorous stressors of his career (McDonough, 1990). The stress resulting from the SRNA education along with the DNP program can be a major
source of psychological stress for the SRNA. According to McDonough (1990), "stress is an imbalance that seeks to be relieved" (p. 195). McDonough
(1990) found that personalities and addictive tendencies of individuals caused some individuals to abuse drugs. A survey was administered to 150
students to assess addictive personality traits. Results indicated that anesthesia students had significantly higher scores in excitement seeking behaviors.
McDonough (1990) also suggested the creation of support system to aid students in finding effective coping skills. Findings from this study provided
the anesthesia literature with insight into substance abuse among SRNAs. SRNAs develop various coping mechanisms to relieve stressors. Kless
(1989) studied the effectiveness of social support groups in reducing

Childhood Cancer : Suffering From Hodgkin 's Lymphoma
Childhood cancer takes a tremendous toll on a family in general. It can be absolutely catastrophic without knowledge of the various strategies and
coping tools successfully used by other families with histories of childhood cancer. Every year over 3,500 children are diagnosed with cancer
(Yoak, 38). The news is devastating to a family. They are faced with a life altering event and the difficult task of helping the child understand what
is happening to their bodies. No doubt the doctors and hospital staff will be able to facilitate most of the explanations of the diagnosis and
treatment plan. However, I would like to enlighten the readers of this paper about the coping mechanisms utilized by many families to help them to
survive this illness. In researching this subject I was able to interview a parent, Johari Evans, of a six year old boy, Rodney Burton III, who is
suffering from Hodgkin 's Lymphoma. Ms. Evans shared with me some of the coping tools she used in hope that others can benefit when faced with a
similar situation. We talked about how having cancer affects a child and the family in their everyday lives. Ms. Evans expressed how important it is to
be able to access informational sites, self–help manuals and hospital based workshops to learn coping skills and positive ways of dealing with such
sadness. She also helped me understand emotional mindset of a parent and how she is able to help both of her children cope with the situation. There

Social Support Groups Can Benefit People Suffering Diseases
Social support is that human and material support offered to people suffering from various diseases or various body inabilities. The support could in
the form of material things such as money, food, clothing and shelter. The other support is in the form of offering services such as washing clothes,
cooking, loving and caring about those suffering from deadly diseases or having health dysfunctions. The social support could be initiated and
contributed by one individual, a group or community at large. The social support groups benefit people suffering various diseases such as, HIV/AIDs,
cancer, Backbone injuries, the blind, the dumb, hearing impaired people and many more in different manners. (Jeong, 2011) The social support has
focused on ensuring a better life for people with no hope of their tomorrow. Even though there are many setbacks facing the social support to the
outcasts in the community the current available groups have done to their best in ensuring a better environment for those with several inabilities in the
community. From the various researches about the effectiveness of support groups, it is correct to say that social support parties are doing great in the
society. In other dimensions, social support could be in form guidance and counseling in matters such as rape, early pregnancies, Female genital
mutilation campaigns and many other mostly social evils affecting our communities today. In this analysis focuses on the role and effectiveness of

The Worst Thing For A Person With Experience During Their...
The worst thing for a person to experience during their grieving process, is interaction with a person who lacks empathy for their situation. According
to Cummins, a grieving individual expects people close to them to have the ability to offer comfort and understanding during a difficult time, such as
the death of a loved one. It is often not discovered until tragedy strikes that those who are considered close to the bereaved, are not able to offer the
comfort they are seeking. Individuals who show avoidance, and even hostility towards a person grieving can be known to lack empathy. Experiencing
this type of interaction with someone considered a close friend can cause resentment in the relationship, and the grieving individual is often... Show

Grainger explains that it is very important to take care of our basic needs during the grieving process, and during this time it is perfectly acceptable,
even necessary, to put our needs above the needs of others (Grainger, 1990). Although we do not think of human suffering as beneficial, especially
while in the midst of it, research concludes otherwise. Hurst suggests that individuals can learn important life lessons as a result of their suffering.
The first benefit we can learn when suffering from loss is that life is precious. Although we may wish we would have said things or did things in the
past prior to losing a loved one, knowing the feeling of regret can push us to do better, and to be better. We can take the suffering and make something
positive out of it, and learn from our mistakes (Hurst, 2015). Knowing that life is precious, experiencing grief makes us realize that we need to always
let people know how we feel, and never let anything go unsaid. Hurst states, "Whether you are angry at the person that you love, have unresolved
issues, need their forgiveness or forget to tell them exactly how much you love them – make sure you say it today. You never know when you may lose
the opportunity to do so (Hurst, 2015)." We tend to get caught up in life, and forget to connect with those who are the most important to us. We even
need to mend relationships that have been damaged, often over things that are not as important as the friendship

The Fault In Our Stars Movie And Movie Analysis
Novels are always better than films because they have more details than a film. While reading a novel the readers can imagine the scenes with details
it gives. Meanwhile, in films, the reader doesn't get the whole effect on how a character feels. The Fault in Our Stars novel is better than the film
itself. The Fault in Our Stars is a story of a young sixteen–year–old named Hazel Grace who is a survivor of cancer. Grace meets a young boy named
Augustus Waters at thecancer support group. They fall in love. Grace feels like this boy understands her and have so much in common. Augustus
Waters and Hazel Grace go to Amsterdam to meet Peter Van Houten. He is a famous author who wrote anovel called "An Imperial Affliction," While
Grace and Waters are at Amsterdam, they fall in love. They continue on going to dates and being with each other the most they could. Augustus knew
he was going to die soon. He planned his funeral and dies days later. The Fault in Our Stars novel is different from thefilm. For example, in the novel,
the author talks about how Hazel visits Isaac at the hospital often because his eye surgery, Hazel notices Augustus staring at her during the support
group meeting, and Hazel drives to Augustus house to pick him up before their trip because she overhears him arguing with his mother

Living With Anxiety Support Group For Men
Living with anxiety support group for men.
Support groups can play an essential role in coping with stressful events in life. Organising and maintaining an active support group does take time and

emphasises on helping members to share collective experiences. the purpose of our human service organisation is to meet the needs and contribute to

The main aim of this essay is to create a support group for men living with anxiety, which it discusses a plan how to run an effective support group for

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green Essay
For this project, I decided to read "The Fault in Our Stars," a novel written by John Green. This book is about 16 year old Hazel Grace, who is
diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She attends weekly Cancer Support Group, where she meets Augustus Waters, a "very intelligent and hot" boy who is
currently in remission. They both take a liking for each other, their relationship growing and developing throughout the book as they fight cancer
together. Along the way, Hazel learns many important lessons about life.
To begin with, this story takes place mainly in Indianapolis in the 21st century. The story also takes place in hospitals, support groups in churches, as
well as each other's homes. From this, I can understand when Hazel describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This curiosity causes Augustus and Hazel to make a trip to Amsterdam to meet the author. During their trip, Hazel finds out the Augustus's cancer has
come back, which deals quite a huge blow to Hazel. Sadly, Augustus passes away. I chose a rollercoaster to represent the plot because it demonstrates
how there are so many ups and downs in life. This takes us to the theme of the book.
I think the theme of the book was that you should always try to live every day to the fullest, as if it's your last day. Don't spend your time mourning,
but rather, cherish it. Even though Augustus finds out before the trip that his cancer has relapsed, he decides to go to Amsterdam because he wants
to make the most of his time left. I chose a dragonfly to represent the theme because the dragonfly lives most of its life as a nymph, flying only for a
fraction of its life. The adult dragonfly only has a few months to do everything that it needs to and wants to do. It lives its life and leaves the world
without any regrets.
The protagonist of the book is 16 year old Hazel Grace. She loves to read and watch reality TV shows with her parents. She also is very witty,
considerate and has a dry sense of humor. In my opinion, the best symbol to represent Hazel would be a dog because dogs are intelligent, they can
make you laugh, and they're also really considerate. (They're a man's best friend!) Hazel is not

Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes As A Fibromyalgia Patient
Chapter 17
Conclusion
Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes as a Fibromyalgia Patient
Exercise, a good sleep routine, and a healthy diet can improve the condition of a fibromyalgia (FM) patient. If a person already has concerns with
regards to healthy living even before being diagnosed with FM, improving these three areas may be difficult. Sometimes a patient gives into the pain
and other FM symptoms rather than trying hard to see beyond the pain, fatigue, and all the other symptoms associated with a FM diagnosis. It is much
better to aim for a healthier lifestyle to improve overall wellbeing.
Gentle and Mindful Exercise can Help
Although pain and fatigue may hamper the patient from doing some form of exercise, all efforts must be made to start with at least short walks or
other gentle exercise as this will have a long term effect on the improvement FM symptoms. Yoga can be a good form of exercise for people with FM
because it isn't strenuous. There may be some difficulty with yoga because of the joint and muscle pains so the patient must take care to select the
poses and stretches that are comfortable.
In addition, exercise is good for the brain as it releases serotonin, a mood enhancing chemical. Exercise therefore will be a big help if the patient feels
the stress often associated with FM. Another benefit of exercising is that it may fight depression, another symptom that most FM patients also suffer
from.

Designing A Twelve Week Support Group For Those Who Have...

FSW 406

–Group Description
I will be designing a twelve week support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The purpose of support groups is "to help members cope
with stressful life events and revitalize existing coping abilities (Toseland) but the purpose of this specific support group will be to give members
involved a sense of normality and a feeling of belonging. Within such a tragedy it isn't uncommon to let the grief transcend into a depression or
isolation, but it's proven that human relationships (i.e groups) can provide the needed support for individuals to work through their grief and heal.
The issue addressed will be moving forward after the loss of a loved one.
The group will be closed, as with such personal and delicate content it's important to create trust and cohesion, which has a better chance of occurring
if the group is closed. Cerel (2009) states that it isn't clear if open–ended group membership leads people to be re–traumatized by constantly hearing
stories of violent death over and over. Growing together as a limited group can teach individuals coping techniques and give meaningful support. Flatt
(2007), states that commonly Survivors of Suicide groups often meet anywhere from 1 ВЅ to 2 hours and Wesner (1999) suggest groups occur weekly.
Having this be consistent is crucial.
There are a multitude of overall goals of the group that have to do with individual and societal perceptions of

Hazel Grace Lancaster In The Fault In Our Stars

  • 1. Hazel Grace Lancaster In The Fault In Our Stars "Whenever you read a cancer booklet or a website or whatever, they always list depression as a side effect of cancer. But, in fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying"(3). Hazel Grace Lancaster is a 16 year old teen with stage 4 thyroid cancer and mets in her lungs. She has managed to live due to an experimental drug called Phalanxifor. Hazels days are filled with going to the doctor, watching ANTM(Americas Next Top Model) and reading An Imperial Affliction over and over, til she quotes the book on a daily basis. But, all those weary days change when she meets the charming Augustus Waters at acancer support group. Now Hazel's life takes an unexpected detour on the path to self discovery. Throughout the book The Fault In Our Stars, Hazel Grace Lancaster is portrayed by John Green as a witty, resilient and selfless young woman. In the book, Hazel has shown much of her witty personality. In one of the first pages of the book, Hazel introduces her humoristic personality when she goes to the Cancer Support Group with this thought. "Like, I realize that this is irrational, but when they tell you, you have say, a 20 percent chance of living five years,....you figure out that's one in five...and think, as any healthy person would: (I gotta outlast four of these bastards.)"(5). Hazel was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when she was thirteen, unfortunately for her, she got her period three months later. "Like Congratulations! You're a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Psychosocial Intervention And Length Of Survival Spiegel et al. found a significant relationship between the psychosocial intervention and length of survival (1989). Women in the treatment condition attending support groups lived an average of 36 months compared to women in the control group who lived on average 18 months. Participants who attended weekly support groups lived twice as long as those in the control group. This finding demonstrated the incredible positive impact social support could have on patients with breast cancer. Social support increased immune functioning and survival rates, and Yilmaz, Bal, Benji, and Arvas attributed this effect to the idea that social support impacted the way people chose to cope with a cancer diagnosis (2015). Yilmaz et al. studied 221 women with gynecologic cancer to investigate how coping with stress related to social support (2015). The cross–sectional study conducted in Turkey collected data from three questionnaires that included sociodemographic and clinical features, the Scale of Ways of Coping With Stress, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support that measured social support within family, friends, and a significant other. Effective coping strategies in the Scales of Ways of Coping With Stress included an optimistic approach, a self–confident approach, and seeking social support, while ineffective coping strategies included a hopelessness approach and a submissive approach (Folkman & Lazarus, 1980). Researchers found that women who perceived higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Nurse 's Role With Patients The Nurse's Role in Helping Patients Cope with Loss Laurel Ellzey Denver School of Nursing Abstract Death is a universal part of life. Everyone will eventually experience it. Nurses play an integral role with their patients when it comes to dealing with bereavement, grief, and mourning. Nurses provide bereavement care by listening to patients, helping them express their emotions, and involving them in the entire process. Nurses frequently tend to the emotional needs of their patients, but not their own, which can result in nurse burn–out. Nurses are expected to be resilient when it comes to death, but when they sweep their emotions under the rug to get on with the day and are not given the resources needed to grieve successfully, how can they achieve this? The Nurse's Role with Patients and Loss Death is a part of life and eventually everyone on this earth will experience it. Nurses play an important role with bereaved patients. Not only by being there, but also because everyone grieves in their own way. However, for those experiencing disenfranchised grief, the process may be more difficult. Mourning the death of a loved one is a natural response to death and Worden's four tasks allow those to progress through the tasks in any way. Bereavement, grief, and mourning are all affected by one's culture, religion, and the relationship among deceased, their personality, and how the person died. Bereavement Role ... • 4. INTRODUCTION OF SUPPORT GROUP & ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP Essay INTRODUCTION Support groups bring together people facing similar issues, whether that's illness, relationship problems or major life changes. Members of support groups often share experiences and advice. It can be helpful just getting to talk with other people who are in the same boat. While not everyone wants or needs support beyond that offered by family and friends, you may find it helpful to turn to others outside your immediate circle. A support group can help you cope better and feel less isolated as you make connections with others facing similar challenges. A support group shouldn't replace your standard medical care, but it can be a valuable resource to help you cope (Staff, 2013). Examples of support groups include those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Online support groups can help someone gain a sense of control or empowerment and reduce their levels of stress, depression, or anxiety by promoting open, honest sharing of personal feelings, mutual emotional support, comfort, "virtual" hugging, sharing of practical treatment information, coping strategies, personal experiences, and "success stories" by way of e–mails and Internet group discussion boards (Wessel, K, 1996). Since at least 1982, the internet has provided a new venue for support group (John Schappi, 2012). Discussing online self–help support groups as the precursor to e–therapy, Martha Ainsworth notes that "the enduring success of these groups has firmly established the potential of computer–mediated communication to enable discussion of sensitive personal issues. For example Email, Usenet and internet bulletin boards have become popular methods of communication for peer–to–peer self–help groups and facilitated support groups. Support groups have long offered companionship and information for people coping with diseases or disabilities, and online situational oriented groups have expanded to offer support for people facing various life circumstances, especially those involving personal and cultural relationships (Van Brunt, 2008). A convenient aspect of online support groups is the around the clock availability to its members. People can go online to blog or chat with others anytime of the day or night. There are no time ... • 5. The Loss Of A Loved One Essay The loss of a loved one is a very crucial time where an individual can experience depression, somatic symptoms, grief, and sadness. What will be discussed throughout this paper is what the bereavement role is and its duration, as well as the definition of disenfranchised grief and who experiences this type of grief. I will also touch upon the four tasks of mourning and how each bereaved individual must accomplish all four tasks before mourning can be finalized. Lastly, with each of these topics, nursing implications will be outlined on how to care for bereaved individuals and their families. The Bereavement Role The bereavement role is defined as temporary in duration and allows the bereaved to be excused from daily responsibilities, to be dependent on others , and adjust to life after the death of a loved one (Leming & Dickinson, 2016, p. 492). The bereavement role can also be seen, for example, when individuals play into the "sick role" (Leming & Dickinson, 2016, p.492). When individuals are sick, they are excused from certain responsibilities for a brief period of time. This can be the same outlook for the bereavement role. Other studies suggest the definition of the bereavement role as a "state of suffering or loss" (Hashim, Eng, Tohit & Wahab, 2013). When an individual is placed in this role due to the death of a loved one, the bereaved individual turns to others for emotional support and gives up their control of responsibilities to others (Leming & Dickinson, 2016, ... • 6. Support Group That I Had Been At The Same Time For this assignment I chose to go to a support group that I had been to before. I chose to do this because I wanted to see what would change or what the differences, were between this time and the first time I had went to this meeting. This assignment was very interesting and very difficult for me at the same time. The main reason it was so difficult for me, was I still am not driving too often. So this setback gave me more hurtles to jump over and through, just so I could get to a meeting. Because of this I really struggled trying to find a support group that would actually allow me to attended meetings at the times were people were available to drive me. Then once again it hit me, like before, I finely asked my friend if her mother who is a nurse could help me out. My friend's mother said yes. She knew of a caregiver group a caregiver group for cancer and was even willing to drive me to the group. The only terms were that I would feel out a paper saying I agreed to the conditions of the group. And the information shard in the meeting at no circumstances was to be talked about outside the group. For this assignment I attended the Cancer Caregivers Support Group in the clinical center at Froedtert Hospital. The meeting took place on October 22nd 2016 at night 5:30pm to 7:00pm at night. This caregiver group was a group of fifteen to twenty people who specifically were planning on becoming a caregiver for a family member who was battling cancer. The meeting was held in a ... • 7. Cancer Caregiver Support Groups Caregiver support groups play a valuable role in assisting individuals with coping with a loved one's disease, injury and/or disorder. In this paper, I will discuss the support group, topics discussed and my personal feelings about the support group. To begin, on March 19, 2016, I attended a cancer caregiver support group facilitated by Peggy Morehouse, a social worker. The group began with each group member sharing, in a circle, updates and challenges of the family members diagnosed with cancer in a circle. The group was an informal model lead by group members. The informal model allowed members to offer empathy, support, referrals and insight as needed, rather than be forced to cover specific topics. Next, the group covered many different ... Hope Cancer Support Group Analysis Introduction Hope Cancer Resources is an organization that "provides compassionate, professional cancer support and education in the Northwest Arkansas region today and tomorrow (Support Groups of NWA, n.d.)." Hope Cancer Resources serves a large variety of cancer patients in NWA and surrounding areas, including Central Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. They provide many services and interventions to clients such as financial assistance, emotional support, tobacco cessation, and transportation. From a social services perspective, one of their most effective interventions is support groups. Hope Cancer Resources offers seventeen different supports groups that are diagnosis, gender, or activity specific. Many patients engage in the services,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point in time there is an open response section where the comments about support groups would go in. Instead of leaving the client to answer open ended, a scale could be created that might target more specifically the objectives of the group. Implications of Further Research There is a large base of research at this point in time about cancer support services, and more specifically support groups. As I worked through the research I found that a majority of the research is very specified to a specific race, diagnosis, and emotional issue. I found it difficult to fin more general studies that only tested the most basic questions. I propose that more research is done to look at cancer support on a macro–scale. Another thing I noticed is that there is a large gap in research on stage four, or 'terminal' patients. I am unsure why this blank space exists, but I firmly believe that the voice of those affected by stage four cancers should be heard. There are many misconceptions that the world has about stage four cancer, and I think that conducting research on this subgroup would help to educate the population on what this stage of the disease truly ... • 9. Modern Information Technology Has Developed A Way For People Modern information technology has developed a way for people to receive support from others. Online social support is expanding as the general public begins to feel comfortable using online social groups to seek support from others. Online social groups have extensive benefits for users who are not able to or do not desire to attend face–to–face communication support. These groups have emerged within health care as a result of individuals' needs. These individuals need to know more about their health conditions have driven many health groups to develop. Plenty of these online support groups are in the form of blogs, such as mom blogs, bodybuilder blogs, health blogs, and healthy eating blogs. Furthermore, there are also certain online support areas known as social media that allow people to share personal experiences or share current events in their life. Common examples of this include: Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. At the present time, in North America alone, it is estimated that there are currently over 250 million people who use the internet. Individuals may utilize the internet for an extensive amount of reasons, such as information gathering, entertainment, and personal use. The idea of online support groups is relatively modern, having been around only for a decade or so. However, these social groups have become a method to social support and positive health outcomes. • 12. Examples Of Hypothyroidism In The Fault In Our Stars A quote that changed who I was. Optimistic or pessimistic, these were the two options I had when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This diagnoses is common in women, but because they discovered it after many years I was put under observation in the hospital. The doctors were afraid that I might fall into a coma because of a procedure that was done earlier before discovering my thyroid did not function properly. After being depressed and terrified, I stumbled up on a quote from a book called The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and the character Augustus Waters said "It's a metaphor, see: You putthe killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing.". (12). This is a simple quote that changed my perspective of how I viewed the situation I was facing. The Fault in Our Stars is a book about teenagers who were diagnosed with cancer. The main character of the book was a girl who had thyroid cancer and her name is Hazel Grace. She fell in love with Augustus Waters who lost his legs due to cancer. One time she went, Isaac brought his friend, Gus Waters. Gus suffered from Osteosarcoma, losing one of his legs. He had been NEC, meaning no evidence of cancer. Gus uses cigarettes, but never lights them. He says that it's a metaphor. You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing. Sufferers of rare conditions could meet over long distances and share their trials and tribulations with each other. Drawbacks of possible internet support groups would include the technology required to access such groups, slower responsiveness or feedback to thoughts and emotions especially if those thoughts are of hurting one's self or others. Inevitably the disinhibition that people sometimes feel leads to a toxic group environment and a lack of empathy. • 17. Abbey Dvorak'sMusic Therapy Support Groups For Cancer... On average 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime (Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Statistics 2017). A side effect of a cancer diagnosis is often significant stress. Still, stress is inevitable whether it is a personal or a loved one's sickness. Stress that is not dealt with or is left to build up can cause many different health problems either with the cancer patients or family members. These health problems include high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and more (Mayo Clinic). Music, for many, is a way to cope with these issues because it serves as a relaxation technique that reduces stress levels and anxiety. Abbey L. The use of the diagrams helps the audience improve their understanding of the research and also builds on Dvorak's credibility. Like her diagrams that where easy to follow Dvorak gave limited information on what the participants were asked to determine their mood. This information could have been helpful as the reader could make their own assumptions on the questions and whether or not they are suitable for the experiment. The author explains to the readers what type of questions were asked during the beginning, middle and end point of the experiment (Abbey L. Dvorak 76). Coping Mechanisms used among SRNAs For centuries, humans have pondered diverse mechanisms of how to effectively deal with stress. The typical clinical setting of a SRNA consistently parallels the conditions that define a stressful environment. Dr. William Halstead, the New York surgeon accredited with popularizing regional anesthesia in the United States, used cocaine outside of the clinical setting as a method of coping with the rigorous stressors of his career (McDonough, 1990). The stress resulting from the SRNA education along with the DNP program can be a major source of psychological stress for the SRNA. McDonough (1990) found that personalities and addictive tendencies of individuals caused some individuals to abuse drugs. A survey was administered to 150 students to assess addictive personality traits. Results indicated that anesthesia students had significantly higher scores in excitement seeking behaviors. It is often not discovered until tragedy strikes that those who are considered close to the bereaved, are not able to offer the comfort they are seeking. Grainger explains that it is very important to take care of our basic needs during the grieving process, and during this time it is perfectly acceptable, even necessary, to put our needs above the needs of others (Grainger, 1990). Although we do not think of human suffering as beneficial, especially while in the midst of it, research concludes otherwise. Hurst suggests that individuals can learn important life lessons as a result of their suffering. The first benefit we can learn when suffering from loss is that life is precious. Although we may wish we would have said things or did things in the past prior to losing a loved one, knowing the feeling of regret can push us to do better, and to be better. We can take the suffering and make something positive out of it, and learn from our mistakes (Hurst, 2015). Knowing that life is precious, experiencing grief makes us realize that we need to always let people know how we feel, and never let anything go unsaid. Hurst states, "Whether you are angry at the person that you love, have unresolved issues, need their forgiveness or forget to tell them exactly how much you love them – make sure you say it today. You never know when you may lose the opportunity to do so (Hurst, 2015)." We tend to get caught up in life, and forget to connect with those who are the most important to us. • 37. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green Essay For this project, I decided to read "The Fault in Our Stars," a novel written by John Green. This book is about 16 year old Hazel Grace, who is diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She attends weekly Cancer Support Group, where she meets Augustus Waters, a "very intelligent and hot" boy who is currently in remission. They both take a liking for each other, their relationship growing and developing throughout the book as they fight cancer together. Along the way, Hazel learns many important lessons about life. To begin with, this story takes place mainly in Indianapolis in the 21st century. The story also takes place in hospitals, support groups in churches, as well as each other's homes. From this, I can understand when Hazel describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This curiosity causes Augustus and Hazel to make a trip to Amsterdam to meet the author. During their trip, Hazel finds out the Augustus's cancer has come back, which deals quite a huge blow to Hazel. Sadly, Augustus passes away. I chose a rollercoaster to represent the plot because it demonstrates how there are so many ups and downs in life. This takes us to the theme of the book. I think the theme of the book was that you should always try to live every day to the fullest, as if it's your last day. Don't spend your time mourning, but rather, cherish it. Even though Augustus finds out before the trip that his cancer has relapsed, he decides to go to Amsterdam because he wants to make the most of his time left. I chose a dragonfly to represent the theme because the dragonfly lives most of its life as a nymph, flying only for a fraction of its life. The adult dragonfly only has a few months to do everything that it needs to and wants to do. It lives its life and leaves the world without any regrets. The protagonist of the book is 16 year old Hazel Grace. She loves to read and watch reality TV shows with her parents. She also is very witty, considerate and has a dry sense of humor. In my opinion, the best symbol to represent Hazel would be a dog because dogs are intelligent, they can make you laugh, and they're also really considerate. (They're a man's best friend!) • 38. Abbey L. Dvorak published her peer–reviewed scholarly journal on cancer patients in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her research, Dvorak also gives the readers a copy of what the participants were going to go through using the "Music Intervention Protocol" sheet (Abbey L. Dvorak 79–81). The reader is fully aware of the situations the participants were going through and the choice of simple diction by Dvorak further helps the reader easily follow along. The use of the diagrams helps the audience improve their understanding of the research and also builds on Dvorak's credibility. In her research, the author emphasizes who the experimenter is and their characteristics. She uses various diagrams to show the different details about the participants and what the protocol required for music therapy is. Although Dvorak uses these techniques, she fails to clearly address the questions that were asked to the participants during the three periods which she analyzed their overall mood. Dvorak 76). However, she neglects to illustrate the exact questions or similar questions that where asked. By adding a few questions that she might have asked into her paper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes As A Fibromyalgia Patient Chapter 17 Conclusion Making Healthier Lifestyle Changes as a Fibromyalgia Patient Exercise, a good sleep routine, and a healthy diet can improve the condition of a fibromyalgia (FM) patient. If a person already has concerns with regards to healthy living even before being diagnosed with FM, improving these three areas may be difficult. Sometimes a patient gives into the pain and other FM symptoms rather than trying hard to see beyond the pain, fatigue, and all the other symptoms associated with a FM diagnosis. It is much better to aim for a healthier lifestyle to improve overall wellbeing. Gentle and Mindful Exercise can Help Although pain and fatigue may hamper the patient from doing some form of exercise, all efforts must be made to start with at least short walks or other gentle exercise as this will have a long term effect on the improvement FM symptoms. Yoga can be a good form of exercise for people with FM because it isn't strenuous. There may be some difficulty with yoga because of the joint and muscle pains so the patient must take care to select the poses and stretches that are comfortable. In addition, exercise is good for the brain as it releases serotonin, a mood enhancing chemical. Exercise therefore will be a big help if the patient feels the stress often associated with FM. Another benefit of exercising is that it may fight depression, another symptom that most FM patients also suffer from. A Restful Night is a Must The body needs a good night's sleep to ... • 40. Designing A Twelve Week Support Group For Those Who Have... Alexis Strong Final Paper Terri Nelson FSW 406 May 5th, 2016 –Group Description I will be designing a twelve week support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The purpose of support groups is "to help members cope with stressful life events and revitalize existing coping abilities (Toseland) but the purpose of this specific support group will be to give members involved a sense of normality and a feeling of belonging. Within such a tragedy it isn't uncommon to let the grief transcend into a depression or isolation, but it's proven that human relationships (i.e groups) can provide the needed support for individuals to work through their grief and heal. The issue addressed will be moving forward after the loss of a loved one. The group will be closed, as with such personal and delicate content it's important to create trust and cohesion, which has a better chance of occurring if the group is closed. Cerel (2009) states that it isn't clear if open–ended group membership leads people to be re–traumatized by constantly hearing stories of violent death over and over. Growing together as a limited group can teach individuals coping techniques and give meaningful support. Flatt (2007), states that commonly Survivors of Suicide groups often meet anywhere from 1 ВЅ to 2 hours and Wesner (1999) suggest groups occur weekly. Having this be consistent is crucial. There are a multitude of overall goals of the group that have to do with individual and societal perceptions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
