The Great Generation provides experiential learning programs to develop creative entrepreneurial professionals who can address 21st century challenges. It runs 7-14 day projects where students and professionals collaborate with communities in emerging countries to tackle local problems, gaining hands-on experience outside their comfort zones. The Great Generation has delivered over 50 such projects, working with a network of community organizations and using its expertise to build capacity and provide consultancy services focused on livelihood creation, education, and addressing the roots of poverty.
2. About The Great Generation
A CATALYST FOR POSITIVE CHANGE : WE NURTURE AND ACCELERATE HUMAN POTENTIAL
We inspire profound change in the systems and processes that surround us: we empower people to
tackle the challenges of the 21st century.
We believe it is individuals and communities learning and acting together that releases untapped potential
to make the most of our resources: people and the planet.
We work across society, across sectors and across continents to deliver experiential learning programmes
that are transformational for everyone involved.
3. 21st CENTURY CHALLENGES
The capital economy has drastically shifted in the
last few years, exposing systems and processes
that are insufficient to support the next phase of
global development, one that is sustainable for
everyone : people and the planet. Uncertainty in
markets and government structures, both in the
developed and developing world, are posing
corporations with tough new development
challenges. Good performance is now dependent
on seeking growth in new markets, drastically
innovating value offers, and exploring multi-
sector partnerships and social enterprise
initiatives. This shift has implications for the type
and cost of capital, to expectations of timelines
and results, and very importantly to the type of
managerial skills needed and the way they are
developed inside an organisation.

CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURIAL
PROFESSIONALS
Companies are now driven to search for a better
position to succeed in this context and will
require the leadership of people with a new
mindset, competences, skills and knowledge
often described as creative entrepreneurial
professionals. Such professionals can connect to
different people, different organisations and
different sectors, and have the ability to
transform ambiguity and instability into a
business opportunity, exploring unknown spaces
that can assure growth and long term success of
their sectors.
WORKING ACROSS THE
WORLD
Most of all, creative entrepreneurial professionals
understand the interconnectedness on which life
on earth is based. Whether it is the imbalance of
natural ecosystems or the effects of a global
financial crisis, they know that what happens in
one part of the world deeply affects its
counterparts. Therefore, professionals willing to
face the challenges of the 21st century will seek
collaboration and co-creation between all sectors
to maximise resources, and develop comfort with
the blurring of frontiers dividing them in order to
achieve success.

ACTION-BASED SESSIONS
The programme starts with a number
of sessions designed to be highly
interactive, encouraging participation
and reflection. Each session can be
tailored to meet business critical
needs or used to develop knowledge
across a range of global themes. They
can be adapted according to industry,
sector, hierarchical level and other

programmes
IN TO THE BUSINESS
Using the backdrop of the
programme so far, participants
explore their personal and
professional learning, and develop
insights to be applied to the
business. These sessions are
essentially tailored to deliver the
best results and impact for business
critical needs, and for participants to
be able to apply their learning to
day-to-day challenges that will face
them and the business.
7 to 14-DAY PROJECT
Participants travel for 7 to 14 days
to collaborate with a community in
an emerging country, working to
tackle local problems in a
consultancy project. The on-the-
ground project allows participants
to move out of their comfort zones,
draw on existing skills and learn
new ones, that contribute to their
personal and professional
development.
Creative entrepreneurial professionals are formed outside of classrooms and meeting
rooms. Their potential accelerates out of their comfort zone by learning hands-on in real life
situations.

“I’ve participated in many different

come close to matching the transformative

There are two key factors at play – the depth

power and relevance of the learning.”

8. Social Impact
We work to create the foundation stones that can improve the lives of
people living in tough social and economic conditions:
the creation of livelihoods and access to quality education.

problem of poverty holistically, which includes health clinics that lead
livelihood projects, primary schools and entrepreneurship initiatives
We use our expertise to deliver service grants which build capacity and
provide consultancy services based on mission critical needs of
our long-term local partners.
Each group of service grantors is a member of that team and we act as
the team’s coach, coordinating and facilitating to bring out the best
of their abilities. True entrepreneurs know that often they will start
something they can’t finish.
