Based in Ottawa, the Linda Jamieson School of Dance provides classes in creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, jazz technique, contemporary, and musical theatre for students aged 3 years to 19 years old. Students of the pre-professional program are also offered the opportunity to perform in the American Dance Awards (ADA) regional and national championships. Many students of the Linda Jamieson School of Dance also have earned the ADA’s Regional Dancer of the Year title.

2. Introduction
• Based in Ottawa, the Linda Jamieson School of Dance provides classes in
creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, jazz technique, contemporary, and
musical theatre for students aged 3 years to 19 years old. Students of the
pre-professional program are also offered the opportunity to perform in
the American Dance Awards (ADA) regional and national championships.
Many students of the Linda Jamieson School of Dance also have earned
the ADA’s Regional Dancer of the Year title.
Founded in 1979, the ADA was one of the first dance competitions. The
competition affords participants the opportunity to win medals, trophies,
and cash scholarships. Students initially compete at the regional level in
the young dancer (ages 7 to 9), junior dancer (ages 10 to 12), teen dancer
(ages 13 to 15), senior dancer (ages 16 to 21), and adult dancer divisions
(ages 22 and over). At the regional competitions, the top competitive
soloists at each level are awarded the title Regional Dancer of the Year.

3. American Dance Awards
• Each Regional Dancer of the Year from all ADA competitions in North
America, South Africa, and South America is eligible to compete at the
national competition for the America’s Dancer of the Year title. In
addition, regional title holders receive numerous dance opportunities
while attending the national competition. They are provided the
opportunity to perform together in a professionally-choreographed
opening number performed at the ADA banquet and title events. They
also receive free unlimited competition classes, a trophy, an official ADA
winner’s jacket, and featured photographs in the ADA souvenir program.
Regional winners take special title classes that are adjudicated by title
judges. Scores from the classes are added to performance scores to help
determine Dancer of the Year.
The 2017 America’s Dancer of the Year winners will be crowned at the
national competition scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida, from July
14 through July 20, 2017.
