iPad quick start guide
1. iPad Quick Start Guide
We have a range of apps for the iPads and this is getting added to as we become aware of good, effective apps. Obviously use of these devices needs to be planned for and skills need teaching just as with anything else.
Managing an iPad –
Children need to be taught to follow these iPad rules and the reminder poster displayed in class
1) Always carry the iPad with two hands
2) Tap the screen gently with your finger.
3) Delete any work / photos / videos that you don’t need at the end of the lesson. (Or better still discourage children from taking endless photos of their tongues, feet etc!)
4) Make sure that you do not have unnecessary apps running. (Double click home button and throw the apps away)
5) Turn the iPad off completely when you have finished to save the battery power. (Hold the power button until the red slide appears to turn it off)
Classroom management –
Please ensure that the iPads are used in a safe location as they are very expensive and not in bullet proof cases. They should be put back on a table after use.
Please fill in the record sheet to ensure users can be traced back. The teacher’s iPad is the one in the purple case.
If you need to limit a child to using one app and stop them from just opening inappropriate apps for the planned activity, it can be done in this way.
START GUIDED ACCESS 1. Launch the Settings App. 2. Go to General and choose Accessibility. 3. Turn Guided Access On. 4. Set a passcode. Please use 5795 in case people forget to knock it off and we have to rescue them. 5. Launch the app you want lock the device into. 6. Triple-click the Home button. 7. You can choose to disable touch or motion in addition to disabling the Home and volume buttons. 8. Tap the Start button. 9. To exit the app, triple-click the Home button and enter the Guided Access passcode.
