The document discusses editing two photos for a magazine cover using Photoshop. For the first photo of Becky, the editor increased brightness, contrast, and vibrance to make the colors more vibrant and eye-catching. Background blur was also added to focus attention on Becky. For the second photo of Emma, brightness and contrast were increased to enhance features and hair color. Background blur was again used to make the subject stand out against the backdrop. The editor believes the edited images now look more conventional and appealing for the magazine cover.
3. Becky- ‘celebs caught on camera’
This is the photo that I have chosen to use as
one of my additional images for the bottom of
my magazine front cover. This is the original
image and I feel as though the colours do not
stand out as much as I had hoped. I plan to edit
this photo using Photoshop and whilst doing this
I hope to make the colours brighter and more
vibrant.
Additionally I have tried to create a focus pull
(making sure the focus is at the front of the
picture- on Becky). I planned to do this so that
the audience would pick out her features and
focus on just her rather than the background.
The focus pull on this image didn’t turn out as
well as I had hoped and therefore I will
experiment with the blur tool on Photoshop in
order to perfect this focus pull.
4. Colour and Contrast Manipulation
To enhance the colours of this image
I have altered the brightness and
contrast. I raised both the colour
and contrast bars in order to make
the image stand out. Previously the
image looked dull and not suitable
for a magazine front cover. However,
now the Pink in Becky’s hair stands
out and you can see that this photo
has been taken in an ordinary
location which creates a sense of
verisimilitude for the audience.
Once I had done this I decided that
the image may benefit from the
manipulation of ‘vibrance’ and
therefore I also increased the level
of vibrance present in the image.
I think the image now would appeal
to my target audience as they are
likely to be interested in bright and
eye catching images.
5. Background Blur
On Photoshop I used the blur tool to help edit
the background. There was a selection of
different brush sizes available and I made sure
I used the best size possible for the different
areas of the image that I needed to blur. I feel
that on the whole this was successful as Becky
now stands out more in the image and the
audience’s attention will be drawn to her
rather than to the background behind her. This
looks conventional of a magazine front cover
and now looks bold on the cover.
6. Final Image
Overall I believe the changes I have made have been
successful and have certainly improved the quality of my
image. The image is now more conventional and will
appeal to my target audience.
It portrays Becky in the right way and it is easy to see who
she is and what she is doing.
7. Emma- ‘lies lies lies’
This is the original image I took of Emma for another one of my additional images to use at the bottom
of my magazine front cover. Similarly to the previous image, the lighting wasn’t perfect and therefore I
felt as though I needed to adjust the colours in this image. I used both the colour and contrast button
to make this successful.
9. Colour manipulation
I changed the colour of this image using the brightness and contrast tool on Photoshop. I raised
both of the bars up which enhanced the features of the image and I am now happy with the way her
hair stands out compared to the background and her jumper.
10. Background blur
I have chosen to additionally blur the background on this image which has made Emma stand out. The
contrast of her hair and jumper to the grass behind her looks really effective and is definitely much more
eye catching and interesting than the original image.
11. Final Image
The image I have now is much more to how I had planned than the original. I am happy with the colours
and believe Emma’s character stands out on the page. With the blurred background/focus pull the image
is conventional of a magazine front cover and looks a lot more professional.
