Texting As Addictive
Texting has been embraced by young people with an enthusiasm that is shown for few other
activities. But unfortunately, Texting can be extremely dangerous in some cases. It also appears to
be addictive and because of this, it interferes with academics and focus. But is texting as detrimental
to focus and as addictive as studies often say? In response to the onslaught of texting teachers have
attempted to employ many strategies to stop the new phenomena. For the most part, they have been
unsuccessful in their efforts. Students not only outnumber the teachers, but they are seemingly more
determined than school staff. And unless a school has an IT guy is as good as GMU's it is unlikely
that the students will stop. Nonetheless, it seems that students

The Impact of Texting on students In Marketing Classes In their article Clayson and Haley, reported
that the result of the effect that texting has on marketing students while taking classes. They knew
that texting can affect students because they cannot be focus on the lectures if they are texting. The
reason of Clayson and Haley´s investigation was to know how texting really affects students'
behaviors, and how frequently they text people or friends. For these research, Clayson and Haley
have made a survey which showed them the thoughts of students who were attending marketing
classes in two different universities. As a result of their research, Clayson and Haley confirmed that
marketing students tried to follow the lecture while listening to the lecture. For Clayson and Haley,
texting makes the class less formal and not professional. Even though students know that they
cannot be texting in the classroom, they continue to do so. Results of texting during class, makes
students have lower grades and GPAs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that Clayson and Haley used excellent points in their article such as questions that allow
them to know how frequently students text while in class. However, their research does not show
some motives students have for texting while in class. For example, some reasons for texting in the
classroom are boring professors, difficult subjects, or social networks. In addition, talking about
multitasking, I believe that multitasking does not have a strong relation with texting in class because
students are able to read, see the board, and take notes at the same time. Even, some students can
write better on their electronic devices instead of using notebooks. I consider that multitasking
should be consider as an ability that university students should

Pros And Cons Of Texting Vs Texting
Would you rather Call or Text Cell phone have become very impacted on the world. Today's society
spends more time talking on their phones, then they do talking in person. Which creates the
question, do people prefer texting or calling more? Both are common ways of communication, but is
one preferred more over the other? Texting can be used as a way to bounce around conversations
that people might not want to talk about. Calling is great way for those who can talk for hours.
Phone calls are amazing for people that don't want to wait hours for a response back. Both calling
and texting have pros and cons, that people will have with either one. As cell phone's continue to
grow, communication grows too. Phones have granted the community with ways to communicate
with each other, from opposite sides of the world. Most people would say they prefer texting over
calling. In an article "Phone Calls, Texts Or Email? Here's How Millennials Prefer To
Communicate" by Larry Alton at Forbes.com states: "Text messages do have several advantages–
which is probably why 68% of millennials admit to texting "a lot" on a daily basis, compared to
47% of their Gen X counterparts." But what makes texting so much better than calling? Texting
gives people a self confidence to say things that they wouldn't normally say verbally. Texting also
allows people to not respond right away, when they are not sure on how to answer a question. Since
texting can be spread out among the day, people can

Texting And Driving
Texting and Driving has been a problem for many years, and has continuously increased since the
creation of social media and other distractions that our generation is drawn too. On September 1st,
2017 Texting the Driving was made illegal in the State of Texas. This law was created for the safety
of not only the drivers who are participating in this illegal act but the people surrounding them and
other drivers. Many things contribute to the act of texting and driving but the largest contributors are
our phones. We; as a generation, have become addicted to these devices which has caused many
injuries and fatalities over the years and continue to do so today. Texting and Driving should be a
law in Texas due to the severe consequences of texting and general communication, social media
influences, and multitasking mistakes
The new Texas State Law regarding texting and driving was passed to ensure that civilians on the
street are not being distracted and putting not only themselves at risk of injury but also the people
around them. The DMV of Texas states,"At least 9 people are killed every day because of a
distracted driver." (Texting and Driving) According to the Department of Motor Vehicles of Texas,
the amount of people killed a day by a distracted driver is 9. This number is saddening, and the
reason that states; like Texas, are making a change, and putting a law to action. 2 years ago, I
witnessed one of my dear friend endure a life changing event that not only was fatal but

Informal Texting
1) I believe that, yes, text messages are a hindrance to formal writing and can make students less
likely to perform optimally in a formal writing assessment due to the amount of abbreviations
commonly used. Since texting is usually seen as informal, when texting, people generally speak
utilizing slang, initialisms, acronyms, abbreviations and malapropisms. This, in turn, makes them
accustomed to this informal way of writing and therefore hurts their ability to write in a formal
manner, as it also strips them of their focus when writing.
2) No, because it would spit in the face of the very name, "Formal Writing". Formal writing should
be entirely devoid of abbreviations because while the writing might be delivered in a more efficient

Argumentative Essay Revision Shot to aim directly at people who tend to disregard warnings and
are most like to be distracted drivers, texting and driving PSA's bring awareness and self
consciousness to the general public as they display from moderate to severe graphic scenes on what
happens when you take your eyes off of the wheel. A distracted driving PSA ad is not only one of
the best ways to alert people of the consequences of unfocused driving, but it can also reduce the
number of distracted driving incidents, thus keeping families not only careful and alert, but alive and
safe. In the last 5 years, the number of people who have watched safe driving PSA's has been

But these teens, however, were not the only ones to admit they were shaken by the content.
According to TODAY, advertising executive Donny Deutsch admitted: "It's one thing to
intellectually get it into our brains, but when you see it this graphically ... I tell you, I couldn't get
through this [ad]." The shock these ads have left on people is solid proof PSA's are the absolute best
way to keep people informed and aware of the consequences of distracted driving. But of course,
PSA's don't just shake people awake. Back in 2009, the Field family & their friends suffered a
severe loss, the loss of Josh Field, a bright young man who stole everyone's hearts. In a recent PSA
interview video, we hear from Kathryn Field, Josh's mother. Towards the end of the PSA video, she
admits: "If Josh had more knowledge about the outcome of answering that cell phone, maybe he
wouldn't have, maybe he would have just left it". Clearly, PSA's do more than just shake us awake;
they also have the power to save lives by giving us the knowledge to stay safe. Think about it this
way, if distracted driving PSA's were as popular 6–7 years ago as they are today, bringing people the
knowledge to make the right decision, then maybe Josh, and many others would have remembered
the dangers and would have ignored that cell phone and focused on the road. Sadly Josh wasn't fully
informed of the dangers of distracted driving and so, he lost his life that day. Mrs.

Texting In The Classroom
In this digital age we have a tendency to be fully dependent on electronics particularly on mobile
devices. There are various mobile electronic devices: laptop, tablet, and cellular phone to name a
few. In the early 1990's is when students started bringing cellular phones to school even with the
bulkiness to them back then. Schools began to place a restriction on the use of mobile phones in the
classroom. Back then, the cell phone was only able to make calls, receive calls and text message.
Now, the smart phone is the most favorable with students since they are able to stay connected to a
wide variety of social media. For example, "Students can access the Internet, send or receive text
messages, check email, and even video chat with others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When students are bored or not interested in the teachers lecture. Absent–mindedly a student will
take out their smart phone and start to fiddle with it. For example, playing a puzzle, knocking birds
out with a slingshot or candy crushing some levels. These are not brainy games just games to pass
the time. Although they do have a tendency to hypnotize the person playing and get caught up in the
game. Which again causes the student to focus on the game at hand and not the lecture. Some social
media allows a person to play interactive games not just socialize. "Of wide concern to many
instructors is the potential distraction caused by students using their mobile devices to text, play
games, check Facebook, tweet, or engage in other activities available to them in a rapidly evolving
digital terrain" (Kuznekoff, Titsworth 233). The third reason a mobile or smart phone should not to
be allowed during class is the possibility of cheating on exams. Plain and simple, cheating is
academic dishonesty and when caught there are disciplinary actions. There are applications available
on mobile smart phones make it easier for a student cheat. Though the goal in mind when producing
these applications were for educational purposes. For example, "Digital cameras on mobile phones
can be used for a number of classroom purposes including data collection, scientific visualization,

Text or Call With cell phone technology booming now–a–days texting and snapchatting have easily
outnumbered calling because it's supposedly easier to do. It might be cliche to say but calling is a lot
better than texting because it's good to talk instead of reading virtual letters on a screen. Talking
over the phone is sort of a life skill because when people grow up they might have to answer phone
calls for business purposes and it's a hundred percent an adulting need. Calling is definitely easier
than texting because there is a lot to read into when you're texting someone. Most people are sitting
there reading the screen and wondering what the person on the other ends emotions are. There are
emojis and you have to figure out what the placed meaning of those emojis are and then there is the
lack of privacy, It's harder to trace the exact conversation on a phone call then a text because
someone would have to go to the law or a phone company to get the call logs. With texting these
days there are screenshots that most people send out to friends. Other times, most people have
someone looking over their shoulder reading the messages they are sending. Although texting can be
easier than calling, calling can be easier because majority of the world's communication skills are
already bad enough. With calling people can get the conversation done and over with quicker.
People can say everything they wanted to say in one sitting instead of shooting multiple texts or one

Over–consumption is one of the most detrimental things to society today. The United States as a
whole is a prime leader in over–consumption. Consumption to a certain degree is acceptable and is
somewhat expected in a society where everything is as fast paced as it is in the U.S. The
consumption topic that I am choosing to analyze is the overuse of technology. I am not arguing that
technology is detrimental to society. In fact, I believe that technology has allowed the U.S. to make
a great leap forward in establishing itself as a worldwide leader. What I am arguing, rather, is that
the overuse of technology is detrimental to society. The overuse of technology can be detrimental to

This data backs up the claim of Dragutinovic that there are cognitive repercussions from cell phone
use that can contribute to lack of focus being displayed by drivers who had used their cell phones.
The findings in the study that was done by Redelmeir and Tibshirani have been corroborated by
many other studies that have been done in recent years. One study that corroborated these findings
was a study done by the National Safety Council in 2010. This study estimated that "28% of all
incidents and fatalities on U.S. highways were caused by drivers using cell phones" (Teens Aware of
Texting Dangers, Yet Carry On, 2011). Because of my research on this topic, this estimate does not
surprise me. According to the Official U.S. Government Website on Distracted Driving, sending a
text message can cause a driver to be distracted from the road for 4.6 seconds (www.distraction.gov,
2012). During these 4.6 seconds, a car can travel the length of a football field. With the driver being
distracted for such a long length of time, it is no wonder that so many accidents happen because of
this distracted driving. In my research I realized that one possible reason why so many people
choose to text while driving is due to new advancements of text message technology. Consumers are
always looking for more efficient ways to consume technology, and text message technology is no
different. This ties in directly with the theme of

Texting Stereotypes
A common problem when figuring out how to get a girl to like you over text is figuring out the right
things to say. It is interesting to know that most guys actually say the wrong things in their texts.
Doing this they effectively repel the women that they are after, instead of attracting them. This used
to happen to me when I first started out with my texting game. I started with nice interactions when I
had met the girl in person, but these interactions would get awkward fast and soon sizzle out.
Sometimes the girl would just stop responding to me. Sometimes, they would just see me as a
"texting" buddy and I was effectively FRIENDZONED. Eventually I became determined to get this

The Ethics Of Texting
Issue: Texting is bad in many situations and younger individuals find texting to be acceptable in
certain circumstances where it should not be exercised. Author's Position: The position of the author
Randy Cohen is that he believes texting while in conversation or interacting with people is a poor
habit to exhibit. Evidence: The author expresses a great amount of evidence while discussing the
topic of when texting is inappropriate. An example of this is when the author states "clearly it is
unethical to text when doing risks to harming other people and formal regulations can easily address
them; a dozen states and the District of Columbia prohibit texting while driving." Many states in
America have already banned texting and the use of

Our social issue is about texting while driving in Brevard County, Florida. Texting and driving can
be extrememely dangerous and has become a significant problem due to the vast number of deaths,
particularly in teenage drivers. In Brevard County, the most common factors contributing to the
increasing amount of deaths while driving a motor vehicle is inexperience and immaturity (mainly
young adults), poor choices such as drug use and alcohol, and distractions like cell phone use.
Technology such as cell phones and computers have become a necessity for people, mostly teens, in
this generation as a way to communicate with others. Texting has developed as a social norm ever
since the 21st century began, many teens use their cell phones in everyday life; therefore, it has also
become very common and normal for teens to text and drive. According to the Brevard County
Sheriff's Office in 2010, 59% of teenage passenger deaths occurred in vehicles driven by another
teen, 17% of teenage deaths occured between 9pm and midnight and 25% between midnight and
6am, and 55% occurred from Friday–Sunday ("Teen Driver Programs," 2017). Due to the fact that
most of the drivers that are getting into these accidents are teenagers, the areas that have the most
risk are school zones and school crossings. These distracted teenagers effect not only their safety,
but the safety of people around them. Texting while driving is the same as driving blind for five

Is Texting and Driving as bad as Drinking and Driving? Amber King Zane State College There are
many dangers when both drinking while driving and texting while driving. In this essay the two will
be compared and contrasted to find why people do them even with the dangerous consequences.
Drivers think they can text while driving and also drink while driving because they think they can
get away with it because nothing has affected them in the past while doing it. Michael Austin states,
"Texting, also known as SMS (for short message service), is on the rise, up from 9.8 billion
messages a month in December '05 to 110.4 billion in December '08". What does it mean to all

There may be more than one reason why people feel like it is okay to drink in drive. One of those
reasons may be that they are so impaired that they aren't aware of the dangers of getting behind the
wheel. In some situations a driver could get pulled over by a police officer and he would give a
breathalyzer test that the driver would most likely fail. Then the driver would be taken away to jail
in hand cuffs and treated like a criminal. Another reason is that the driver feels as if they can drink
as much as they would like and still be able to drive because they have done it in the past. Also
drivers don't want to feel intimidated by the alcohol in their system; they believe they are still
capable of doing the same things they did when they weren't under the influence. After you're put in
jail you will have to face a judge or jury and depending on your alcohol level you'll be sentenced. If
it's okay to drink and drive, is it okay to text and drive? Neither option is okay. But people feel as if
texting and driving is a lot more minor then drinking in driving. Drivers look at driving as a
dangerous thing already and most think adding alcohol to the equation makes it more dangerous.
But is it worse than drinking and driving? Teenagers and adults don't think so. Drivers feel as if they
can hide their phone when they are texting or talking on it and the

would and could affect individuals in the real world of communicating face to face. Most have not
thought about this issue as if it concerns many in writing papers or writing in general. Some say

disparities as well. "Texting is the process of sending and receiving typed messages via cellular

some of the same stuff is recapped; not by her but by others she has interviewed. In today's society,
numerous people have cellular devices, and all communicate with them in some way, mainly though
test messaging. In Cullington's essay, text messaging is expressed in many different ways that
messaging through a cellular device is a standard way to communicate. The possible mode of

actions."(Breus) With sleep texting the beep of a cell phone awakens a person so he or she will reach
over and respond to a message with gibberish, however no recollection in the morning. This can be
looked at as the same disruption as sleepwalking. Experts are urging parents to get a hold on this
behavior with teens asking that all electronics be kept out of the bedrooms, and cutting off teens
from phones by ten o'clock in the evening. Poor sleep quality leads to daytime sleepiness which
affects concentration. ABC's news segment called Sleep Texting depicted another portrayal of

The Effects Of Texting On The Age Of Texting By Natalie Moore
Introduction: Advocates of texting promote the concept of easy communication, but the opposing
view point emphasizes the decline in social ability as an effect of texting. Texting can be abused
almost effortlessly. Communication via thumb has become so prominent that it is constantly used for
practically any task. Are you in an argument with someone? Just text them and ignore the in–person
confrontation; it's much easier. Many have seen relationships–both friendly and romantic–decline
due to the replacement of social interaction with a screen. In the passage, Rule of Thumbs: Love in
the Age of Texting by Natalie Moore, Moore's informal diction, humorous anecdotes and outside
sources back up the disadvantages of technology.
Outside Sources: Moore's outside sources, some with opinions that are opposite to her own, are
included to enhance the credibility of her negative view against texting. In efforts to support her
observations, Moore included the opinion of Joy Weaver who said texting "cannot replace the
human voice or touch" (172). Not only does Moore include external sources that back up her stance,
she involved opposing viewpoints to get both sides of the argument. Barb Iverson, a Columbia
College Chicago professor, elaborated on two types of individuals: "digital immigrants and digital
natives" (173). Digital immigrants represent the older portion of the nation; the ones who are new to
technology. Digital natives are the younger generations; the ones who were born

Text messages, iMessages, and direct messaging have made it all too simple to communicate with
one another. These modern means of exchanging information have led to a drop in the amount of
verbal discussions. "A generation of e–mailing, followed by an explosion in texting, has pushed the
telephone conversation into serious decline" ("Texting Generation"). Though talking on the phone
requires technology, a level of closeness exists, whereas in a text message, there is an absence of
this. Voice calls have become "old–fashioned" in recent years, but hearing someone's voice instead
of reading a combination of letters on a tiny screen brings the intimacy factor to a whole new level.
Many people in recent generations refrain from phone calls by virtue of being put on the spot and
not having time to conceive an acceptable response. "Young people say they avoid voice calls
because the immediacy of a phone call strips them of the control that they have over the arguably
less–intimate pleasures of texting, e–mailing, Facebooking or tweeting" ("Texting Generation"). The
avoidance of these immediate response ways of communication creates a divide in the community.
Wrapped up in portraying themselves as a "perfect" human, people lose themselves and their values
in the new virtual world, making it considerably easier for people to depict themselves in a finer
way but at the same time, losing personal connection to the people in their lives. Technology
continues to take place of the simple things people enjoy with one another. For example, a walk in
the park on a cool, breezy day seems to be a rare thing people take pleasure in in recent times. The
latest technological devices have subdued these "old" ways of finding entertainment and spending
time with others. In "The Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury, Leonard Mead lives in

Texting Or Calling
Mobile phones have become a crucial part of our society today. The increasing number of texts and
phone calls is alarming. Texting and calling have become popular ways of communication. Over the
past twenty years, there has probably been more texts sent and received than calls. Although texting
may be faster, more organized, and convenient, it also takes full concentration, has a delayed
response, and emotion or sarcasm is hard to detect. Calling, on the other hand, can be more personal,
more information and detail can be communicated, and an immediate response is received. Even
though there are many benefits of calling, there are also some downsides. For example, the receiver
might not answer, more personal conversations take longer, and words and thoughts are on the spot.
Calling and texting both can be good ways of communication, it all depends on the point you are
trying to portray.
In recent years, calling has decreased in popularity. New ways of communication have risen and
many have forgotten the benefits of calling. Calling can be a more intimate form of communication.

As we all know, everyone who has a phone is guilty of texting. Especially those with a smart phone.
The use of informal language has become a widespread problem today due to the use of text
messaging among one another. Many people engage in conversations and do not even realize that
they are using improper grammar majority of the time, along with informal speaking. This also has
become very popular in society because of the improper language being used, also known as
"slang." However, there are some ways to try and reduce the use of improper grammar due to the
use of shortening words. The way that texting has grown over the years, people have created more
and more ways to come up with acronyms for words. Constantly doing something over and over can
become a habit. Therefore, if you continue to use shortcuts for every message your type, then you
could end up doing the same on assignments, paperwork, and essays. Even an important email to
your professor. This also leads to devices are being used more than usual. According to Tina
Barseghian, she states that "Some educators (and even a linguistic expert) believe kids who text are
exercising a different, additional muscle when texting, writing, and note–taking – and that skill is
actually adding to a student's growing and changing repertoire." Which is also true. From

Texting And Driving
The most recent controversy among U.S. citizens, which is on everyone's mind, is whether or not
cellphone use while operating a motor vehicle should be permitted. Both sides of this debate have
justifiable reasons, but certainly one is bound to succeed in preference to the opposed side. Cellular
devices being used should be off limits while simultaneously driving, because it puts not only the
driver in danger, but also any passengers or other drivers at risk. There are numerous rules that
quarrel cellphone use in certain situations, including laws that forbid their use while driving, yet
countless citizens rebel without batting an eye. I'm in favor of diminishing cellphone use while
operating a motor vehicle, along the side of law enforcement and other law abiding citizens.
On the contrary, these devices do have many advantages and conveniences to them; for example,
GPS navigation. This prodigious accessory to modern cellphones have consequently deteriorated
any need for other GPS devices, merely because it is a amenity. They also serve as an essential ...

This abruptly leads to 330,000 injuries a year. There has been endless deaths as a result of texting
and driving; In 2013, 3,154 people were killed in distraction–related crashes according to Edgar
Snyder & Associates law firm. Many people, especially teenagers don't fully grasp the danger they
put themselves and others in. Sharon Heit, the mother of a texting and driving victim spoke out and
exclaimed, "In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the
heart of everyone who loves you." What she means by this, is that the risk of using your cellphone

Texting While Driving Affected Driving : Causes And...
It's always sad to see loved ones die, but it can be especially tragic when it happens unexpectedly.
One of the most common, unexpected ways to die, is being involved in a car wreck. Things like icy
roads, animal crossings, and car malfunctions are things that are sometimes beyond our control, yet
they only make up the small proportion of the causes of car crashes. Most of the accidents that occur
are usually preventable. It's the individual driver who can make things happen; or not happen.
Things like speeding, tailgating, and reckless driving have been problems for quite some time, but
the the new problem that is undoubtedly the largest problem is distracted driving. New
technology/services have come out to prevent people from driving while distracted by blocking
incoming messages and notifications. Using various forms of advertising, this is the type of solution
that needs to be introduced to everyone. With the rise of technology such as smartphones, people
have slowly become connected to their devices; so connected that they can't even resist the urge to
peek at it while driving two ton vehicles at high speeds. Many people will say that it's very
dangerous to drink and drive, so they don't. Many of the same people will agree that texting while
driving is dangerous, yet they don't think twice about taking a quick look at their phone while
speeding down the interstate. Driving under the influence impairs the motor skills of the human,
causing drivers to have a hard time

Texting In The Classroom
Through the years of English slowly evolves from the Shakespearean language to modern language.
The English language is a living being that is just continuing to grow. Society is fighting about a
new change that has been brought about since around the 1900s, as many teachers are pulling out
their hairs as they come across their students papers which consisted of their informal language,
their text language. Yes, social media does bring people together and make them more connected,
but is it really worth it? As the students are vulnerable to the people on the Internet that can take
advantage of the students information. Most people get a Facebook when they are thirteen or
perhaps even younger, and at this time they are not responsible. What ... Show more content on

By kindergarten kids already know how to operate smartphones and have computers at home. The
problem is not keyboarding itself, it does not cause problems to the grammar and formal writing but
the reliance of electric devices as physical handwriting is slowly becoming non–existent. "Students
are more likely to commit certain grammatical errors because the conventions of texting, tweeting
and Facebooking in their formal academic essays. Occasionally [Sentell] see actual 'text language,'
like using the letter 'u' instead of the word 'you'" (Cambell). There is a fight among many of the
teachers about the texting language, some are against it but some conform to it. Some of which even
take advantage of it to create a "spark" in their students learning. The decisions of a language is not
made by anyone official but by the people speaking the language. Slowly the fight about the texting
language, seems to have less of those who oppose it and more people to conform to it (Lee). The
main problem is the lack of capitalization, punctuation and apostrophes, along with the text
language. There are even those teachers that realize that given time people seem to "lose" their
writing skills as they themselves find to write with the text language, but in reality the language is
just slowly changing, with much attempts at preventing these changes. But the billboard between
Cape Girardeau and Oak Ridge Mike Rowan saw, consisting of "U" instead of "You," shows how it

Texting Dilemmas
Have you ever sent someone a long heartfelt text about how your day went and they just reply with
the letter K? This is just one problems that have occurred ever since the era of text messaging began
and it needs to stop. Social media is full of annoying text messages like one word response, people
who read your text then respond the next day or month, and lastly when people overuse of
emoticons and text talk like LOL. Texting needs to have guidelines so that people know what to do
and what not to do when texting another person. The first step to overcome the horrible texting
dilemma is understanding how to reply to a text appropriately. When people respond to text
messages with a one word response that doesn't follow the context of the text they're replying to
they seem upset or rude even if they don't mean to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overuse of these things can drive people insane and even end a friendship, which is something
that no one wants. Majority of the time when people do this the use them inappropriately, for
example when someone is talking about something that isn't funny but rather sad they end the text
with lol, which stands for laugh out loud. "Text exchanges often drip with these LOL's the way
normal writing drips commas...no mentally composed human being spends his or her life immersed
in ceaseless hilarity. The LOLs must mean something else" (McWhorter). Just like any other word
when people LOL or even emojis too much they start to lose their meaning or they can even offend
the reader. Texting is like writing a good essay, when people repeat themselves over and over they're
just using circular reasoning. People who have this problem just need to chant in their head "I will
not use LOL. I will not use the same emoji. I will not use LOL". Once they get the hang of using
text slang and emoticons appropriately the texting world will be a better

Texting While Driving: Texting to Death
Seeing someone behind the wheel of a car and texting has become quite a frequent sight. Texting
and driving is a serious hazard, which could ultimately cost you your life or others. This pressing
issue needs well thought out ads that will convince people to act on this deadly habit and not just be
aware of it. Through that idea I felt that my ad is a perfect fit for this problem. This will be revealed
through understanding how important this topic is, while also understanding the pathos and logos
behind my ad and another. It is obvious that texting and driving is extremely dangerous, but the
majority of drivers continue doing so. Even with all the stories of disastrous car accidents
transpiring as a direct outcome of distracted driving, teens and adults are still texting at the wheel.
According to a survey put together by OnlineSchools.com in 2011, "23 percent" of all auto
collisions "involved cellphones" which equates to 1.3 million crashes. Troubled Americans have
taken up the fight against this epidemic. Forty–one states have outlawed texting while driving, and
police are experimenting with increasingly aggressive enforcement strategies. Advocacy groups are
using PSA's and ads to really show the American people the ugly truth of texting while driving. But
treating the problem of texting and driving simply as a fact of public awareness isn't the right way to
approach it. Most people know they shouldn't do that. The survey did by OnlineSchools.com

I understand why you might choose to text rather than make a personal phone call. Texting is a strait

far less nerve wreaking. Texting allows you to think and write a more meaningful message. In

phones? Scary, huh? The authors of "Parents Share Son's Fatal Message to Warn Against Texting &

using cellular devices while driving. They claim that texting and talking on a cell phone while
driving can be dangerous and lead to fatal accidents, and they use persuasive techniques to influence
the reader. In the first article "Parents Share Son's Fatal Text Message to Warn Against Texting &
Driving", the author writes about a young man, Alexander Heit, who was sending a text while he
was driving which caused his death. The author uses various persuasive techniques to get the point
across to readers that texting and driving can be a lethal combination. One persuasive technique that
the author uses is logos. He explains that "Heit appeared to have his head down when he began
drifting into the oncoming lane. . .Heit looked up and jerked the steering wheel." This logical
reasoning supports the idea that Heit was not paying attention to his driving, but when he realized
that he did not have control of the car he made a sudden attempt to correct his position but it was too
late. Another persuasive technique that the author uses is pathos. He uses a quote by Heit's mother
that states, "In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the

Disadvantages of Texting Texting on the phone while driving can be a very dangerous thing to do.
As someone looks at the phone and concentrates on the text messages, they will become distracted
from driving. Distracted drivers can cause car accidents and injuries or death to themselves or
others. Texting causes delayed reactions, which increase the chance of getting into an accident.
According to Cary Aspinwall, when texting while driving, drivers take their eyes off the road for 4.6
of 6 seconds. A National Safety Council fact sheet states drivers who use cell phones are four times
more likely to be in a crash. The Harvard center for Risk Analysis reports the annual cost ... Show

Everyday the world is changing and things are done differently. Technology is a major contributor to
that. Although these changes may not always be great and can affect us in negative ways, our daily
routines would not feel complete without it. In a world centered around technology, social media has
taken over how people live their lives or think today. The way people give all their attention to
technology makes them present themselves differently, which causes them to seem less intelligent.

both individuals and society, but with access to it all the time and the amount of time we use it, it
can lead to a bad outcome of us becoming dumb. There are tons of arguments going back and forth

eliminate deaths and accidents each year. Your attention will be all on the road and not on your cell
phone. If you have the law all the way a crossed, the 50 states no one will have no question the law
if they move because it will be the same. Before we had cell phones that were able to text the death
rate was down by a lot after looking at this chart from 1988 to 2008. This is kind of out to date.
However, if you still think about it the deaths per year is just keeps going up and up, because more
and more people insist on texting while driving http://wredlich.com/ny/2012/09/another–bogeyman–

each year related to texting while driving and see if it lessens over the years. They can also have a
poll and see if people feel safer on the road because they will not have to worry about people texting
and driving. In Conclusion this is why I believe all 50 states should have a NO TEXTING AND

enforced, way you can get educated, and how this will help make the roads safer! I hope every

cites that over 80 percent of adults own a phone and over 90 percent of adults keep their phone
within arm's reach. In fact, over half of mobile searches lead to a sale. Therefore, business texting is

Mass marketing relies on the principles of saturating a target demographic or random members of
the public with advertising. However, business texting is an opt–in service. That is, consumers
voluntarily provide their phone number and are free to opt–out at any time. Therefore, the target
audience will be consumers who are already familiar with the product or service. As a result, you
can reduce wasted marketing costs while accurately reaching your target market. Keep in mind that
business texting will always rely on traditional advertising forms to establish and maintain and

percent of adults only have a smartphone to access the Internet. Therefore, the conversion process

Do we, as a society, text to much? Katherine Manning 3–2–16 C4 Essay A big question now a days
is as a society do we text to much. There have been studies showing that as a society we text a lot
more than we did in past years and less and less face to face communication, is the results of what
can happen. People start to rely more and more on their phones to send a text to there family
members, spouse, and even friends instead of calling them or telling them when they have a chance
to talk to them face to face. I get it if it's a short text to tell your spouse to pick something up at the
grocery store for you, but if it's really important I'm sure it can wait till you guys can talk face to
face. Many studies show that the average Americans ages 18–29 receive and send about 88 text
messages a day, compared to around 17 phone calls a day. The numbers change as we get older but
even in the 65 and older group daily texting still edges calling 4.7 to 3.8. In the TIME mobility poll.

Sitting in her mother's lap in Houston, Texas, a little girl laughs at her iPad's screen. Her father, who
is in Korea, is reading her a bedtime story over Facetime. A few months later, when they pick her
father up at the airport, the little girl laughs at her screen while he attempts to get her attention. This
isn't an abnormal event–it is so common, in fact, that some feel we have to 'fight the machines' to
get each other's attention. This is largely because we're taught that the most conclusive way to tell if
you have someone's attention is through eye contact, which the use of a device like a tablet or phone
prohibits. As technology infiltrates more and more aspects of our daily lives, changing our society,
what we consider socially appropriate should begin to change as well. Texting behaviors (read:

Texting and Driving "Over the last few years mobile phones have become significantly more

technology advances further we need to understand how it impacts on driver behavior" (Reed, N.,

even set it down to drive from point A to point B without picking it up. In doing this harmless action
it brings a whole new set of dangers, more than just reaching for our device, by doing that one

habits. What topic sentences will you use as the foundation of your communication? (If necessary,

Texting As Addictive

  • 1. Texting As Addictive Texting has been embraced by young people with an enthusiasm that is shown for few other activities. But unfortunately, Texting can be extremely dangerous in some cases. It also appears to be addictive and because of this, it interferes with academics and focus. But is texting as detrimental to focus and as addictive as studies often say? In response to the onslaught of texting teachers have attempted to employ many strategies to stop the new phenomena. For the most part, they have been unsuccessful in their efforts. Students not only outnumber the teachers, but they are seemingly more determined than school staff. And unless a school has an IT guy is as good as GMU's it is unlikely that the students will stop. Nonetheless, it seems that students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Texting On Students The Impact of Texting on students In Marketing Classes In their article Clayson and Haley, reported that the result of the effect that texting has on marketing students while taking classes. They knew that texting can affect students because they cannot be focus on the lectures if they are texting. The reason of Clayson and Haley´s investigation was to know how texting really affects students' behaviors, and how frequently they text people or friends. For these research, Clayson and Haley have made a survey which showed them the thoughts of students who were attending marketing classes in two different universities. As a result of their research, Clayson and Haley confirmed that marketing students tried to follow the lecture while listening to the lecture. For Clayson and Haley, texting makes the class less formal and not professional. Even though students know that they cannot be texting in the classroom, they continue to do so. Results of texting during class, makes students have lower grades and GPAs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Clayson and Haley used excellent points in their article such as questions that allow them to know how frequently students text while in class. However, their research does not show some motives students have for texting while in class. For example, some reasons for texting in the classroom are boring professors, difficult subjects, or social networks. In addition, talking about multitasking, I believe that multitasking does not have a strong relation with texting in class because students are able to read, see the board, and take notes at the same time. Even, some students can write better on their electronic devices instead of using notebooks. I consider that multitasking should be consider as an ability that university students should ... • 5. Pros And Cons Of Texting Vs Texting Would you rather Call or Text Cell phone have become very impacted on the world. Today's society spends more time talking on their phones, then they do talking in person. Which creates the question, do people prefer texting or calling more? Both are common ways of communication, but is one preferred more over the other? Texting can be used as a way to bounce around conversations that people might not want to talk about. Calling is great way for those who can talk for hours. Phone calls are amazing for people that don't want to wait hours for a response back. Both calling and texting have pros and cons, that people will have with either one. As cell phone's continue to grow, communication grows too. Phones have granted the community with ways to communicate with each other, from opposite sides of the world. Most people would say they prefer texting over calling. In an article "Phone Calls, Texts Or Email? Here's How Millennials Prefer To Communicate" by Larry Alton at Forbes.com states: "Text messages do have several advantages– which is probably why 68% of millennials admit to texting "a lot" on a daily basis, compared to 47% of their Gen X counterparts." But what makes texting so much better than calling? Texting gives people a self confidence to say things that they wouldn't normally say verbally. Texting also allows people to not respond right away, when they are not sure on how to answer a question. Since texting can be spread out among the day, people can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Texting And Driving Texting and Driving has been a problem for many years, and has continuously increased since the creation of social media and other distractions that our generation is drawn too. On September 1st, 2017 Texting the Driving was made illegal in the State of Texas. This law was created for the safety of not only the drivers who are participating in this illegal act but the people surrounding them and other drivers. Many things contribute to the act of texting and driving but the largest contributors are our phones. We; as a generation, have become addicted to these devices which has caused many injuries and fatalities over the years and continue to do so today. Texting and Driving should be a law in Texas due to the severe consequences of texting and general communication, social media influences, and multitasking mistakes The new Texas State Law regarding texting and driving was passed to ensure that civilians on the street are not being distracted and putting not only themselves at risk of injury but also the people around them. The DMV of Texas states,"At least 9 people are killed every day because of a distracted driver." (Texting and Driving) According to the Department of Motor Vehicles of Texas, the amount of people killed a day by a distracted driver is 9. This number is saddening, and the reason that states; like Texas, are making a change, and putting a law to action. 2 years ago, I witnessed one of my dear friend endure a life changing event that not only was fatal but ... • 9. Informal Texting 1) I believe that, yes, text messages are a hindrance to formal writing and can make students less likely to perform optimally in a formal writing assessment due to the amount of abbreviations commonly used. Since texting is usually seen as informal, when texting, people generally speak utilizing slang, initialisms, acronyms, abbreviations and malapropisms. This, in turn, makes them accustomed to this informal way of writing and therefore hurts their ability to write in a formal manner, as it also strips them of their focus when writing. 2) No, because it would spit in the face of the very name, "Formal Writing". • 11. Essay on Public Service Announcements on Texting and Driving Argumentative Essay Revision Shot to aim directly at people who tend to disregard warnings and are most like to be distracted drivers, texting and driving PSA's bring awareness and self consciousness to the general public as they display from moderate to severe graphic scenes on what happens when you take your eyes off of the wheel. A distracted driving PSA ad is not only one of the best ways to alert people of the consequences of unfocused driving, but it can also reduce the number of distracted driving incidents, thus keeping families not only careful and alert, but alive and safe. In the last 5 years, the number of people who have watched safe driving PSA's has been increasing due to the shocking content of the videos, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But these teens, however, were not the only ones to admit they were shaken by the content. According to TODAY, advertising executive Donny Deutsch admitted: "It's one thing to intellectually get it into our brains, but when you see it this graphically ... I tell you, I couldn't get through this [ad]." The shock these ads have left on people is solid proof PSA's are the absolute best way to keep people informed and aware of the consequences of distracted driving. But of course, PSA's don't just shake people awake. Back in 2009, the Field family & their friends suffered a severe loss, the loss of Josh Field, a bright young man who stole everyone's hearts. In a recent PSA interview video, we hear from Kathryn Field, Josh's mother. Towards the end of the PSA video, she admits: "If Josh had more knowledge about the outcome of answering that cell phone, maybe he wouldn't have, maybe he would have just left it". Clearly, PSA's do more than just shake us awake; they also have the power to save lives by giving us the knowledge to stay safe. Think about it this way, if distracted driving PSA's were as popular 6–7 years ago as they are today, bringing people the knowledge to make the right decision, then maybe Josh, and many others would have remembered the dangers and would have ignored that cell phone and focused on the road. Sadly Josh wasn't fully informed of the dangers of distracted driving and so, he lost his life that day. Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Texting In The Classroom In this digital age we have a tendency to be fully dependent on electronics particularly on mobile devices. There are various mobile electronic devices: laptop, tablet, and cellular phone to name a few. In the early 1990's is when students started bringing cellular phones to school even with the bulkiness to them back then. Schools began to place a restriction on the use of mobile phones in the classroom. Back then, the cell phone was only able to make calls, receive calls and text message. Now, the smart phone is the most favorable with students since they are able to stay connected to a wide variety of social media. For example, "Students can access the Internet, send or receive text messages, check email, and even video chat with others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When students are bored or not interested in the teachers lecture. Absent–mindedly a student will take out their smart phone and start to fiddle with it. For example, playing a puzzle, knocking birds out with a slingshot or candy crushing some levels. These are not brainy games just games to pass the time. Although they do have a tendency to hypnotize the person playing and get caught up in the game. Which again causes the student to focus on the game at hand and not the lecture. Some social media allows a person to play interactive games not just socialize. "Of wide concern to many instructors is the potential distraction caused by students using their mobile devices to text, play games, check Facebook, tweet, or engage in other activities available to them in a rapidly evolving digital terrain" (Kuznekoff, Titsworth 233). The third reason a mobile or smart phone should not to be allowed during class is the possibility of cheating on exams. Plain and simple, cheating is academic dishonesty and when caught there are disciplinary actions. There are applications available on mobile smart phones make it easier for a student cheat. Though the goal in mind when producing these applications were for educational purposes. For example, "Digital cameras on mobile phones can be used for a number of classroom purposes including data collection, scientific visualization, and communication" (Thomas, ... • 15. Pros And Cons Of Texting And Texting Text or Call With cell phone technology booming now–a–days texting and snapchatting have easily outnumbered calling because it's supposedly easier to do. It might be cliche to say but calling is a lot better than texting because it's good to talk instead of reading virtual letters on a screen. Talking over the phone is sort of a life skill because when people grow up they might have to answer phone calls for business purposes and it's a hundred percent an adulting need. Calling is definitely easier than texting because there is a lot to read into when you're texting someone. Most people are sitting there reading the screen and wondering what the person on the other ends emotions are. There are emojis and you have to figure out what the placed meaning of those emojis are and then there is the lack of privacy, It's harder to trace the exact conversation on a phone call then a text because someone would have to go to the law or a phone company to get the call logs. With texting these days there are screenshots that most people send out to friends. Other times, most people have someone looking over their shoulder reading the messages they are sending. Although texting can be easier than calling, calling can be easier because majority of the world's communication skills are already bad enough. With calling people can get the conversation done and over with quicker. People can say everything they wanted to say in one sitting instead of shooting multiple texts or one huge ... • 17. Texting and Driving Over–consumption is one of the most detrimental things to society today. The United States as a whole is a prime leader in over–consumption. Consumption to a certain degree is acceptable and is somewhat expected in a society where everything is as fast paced as it is in the U.S. The consumption topic that I am choosing to analyze is the overuse of technology. I am not arguing that technology is detrimental to society. In fact, I believe that technology has allowed the U.S. to make a great leap forward in establishing itself as a worldwide leader. What I am arguing, rather, is that the overuse of technology is detrimental to society. The overuse of technology can be detrimental to society in very miniscule ways which does not pose a threat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This data backs up the claim of Dragutinovic that there are cognitive repercussions from cell phone use that can contribute to lack of focus being displayed by drivers who had used their cell phones. The findings in the study that was done by Redelmeir and Tibshirani have been corroborated by many other studies that have been done in recent years. One study that corroborated these findings was a study done by the National Safety Council in 2010. This study estimated that "28% of all incidents and fatalities on U.S. highways were caused by drivers using cell phones" (Teens Aware of Texting Dangers, Yet Carry On, 2011). Because of my research on this topic, this estimate does not surprise me. According to the Official U.S. Government Website on Distracted Driving, sending a text message can cause a driver to be distracted from the road for 4.6 seconds (www.distraction.gov, 2012). During these 4.6 seconds, a car can travel the length of a football field. With the driver being distracted for such a long length of time, it is no wonder that so many accidents happen because of this distracted driving. In my research I realized that one possible reason why so many people choose to text while driving is due to new advancements of text message technology. Consumers are always looking for more efficient ways to consume technology, and text message technology is no different. This ties in directly with the theme of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Texting Stereotypes A common problem when figuring out how to get a girl to like you over text is figuring out the right things to say. It is interesting to know that most guys actually say the wrong things in their texts. Doing this they effectively repel the women that they are after, instead of attracting them. This used to happen to me when I first started out with my texting game. I started with nice interactions when I had met the girl in person, but these interactions would get awkward fast and soon sizzle out. Sometimes the girl would just stop responding to me. Sometimes, they would just see me as a "texting" buddy and I was effectively FRIENDZONED. Eventually I became determined to get this part of my life handled. Author's Position: The position of the author Randy Cohen is that he believes texting while in conversation or interacting with people is a poor habit to exhibit. Evidence: The author expresses a great amount of evidence while discussing the topic of when texting is inappropriate. An example of this is when the author states "clearly it is unethical to text when doing risks to harming other people and formal regulations can easily address them; a dozen states and the District of Columbia prohibit texting while driving." • 23. Texting And Driving Our social issue is about texting while driving in Brevard County, Florida. Texting and driving can be extrememely dangerous and has become a significant problem due to the vast number of deaths, particularly in teenage drivers. In Brevard County, the most common factors contributing to the increasing amount of deaths while driving a motor vehicle is inexperience and immaturity (mainly young adults), poor choices such as drug use and alcohol, and distractions like cell phone use. Technology such as cell phones and computers have become a necessity for people, mostly teens, in this generation as a way to communicate with others. Texting has developed as a social norm ever since the 21st century began, many teens use their cell phones in everyday life; therefore, it has also become very common and normal for teens to text and drive. According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office in 2010, 59% of teenage passenger deaths occurred in vehicles driven by another teen, 17% of teenage deaths occured between 9pm and midnight and 25% between midnight and 6am, and 55% occurred from Friday–Sunday ("Teen Driver Programs," 2017). Due to the fact that most of the drivers that are getting into these accidents are teenagers, the areas that have the most risk are school zones and school crossings. These distracted teenagers effect not only their safety, but the safety of people around them. Texting while driving is the same as driving blind for five seconds, it makes you twenty ... In this essay the two will be compared and contrasted to find why people do them even with the dangerous consequences. In some situations a driver could get pulled over by a police officer and he would give a breathalyzer test that the driver would most likely fail. Then the driver would be taken away to jail in hand cuffs and treated like a criminal. Another reason is that the driver feels as if they can drink as much as they would like and still be able to drive because they have done it in the past. Also drivers don't want to feel intimidated by the alcohol in their system; they believe they are still capable of doing the same things they did when they weren't under the influence. After you're put in jail you will have to face a judge or jury and depending on your alcohol level you'll be sentenced. If it's okay to drink and drive, is it okay to text and drive? Neither option is okay. But people feel as if texting and driving is a lot more minor then drinking in driving. Drivers look at driving as a dangerous thing already and most think adding alcohol to the equation makes it more dangerous. But is it worse than drinking and driving? Teenagers and adults don't think so. Drivers feel as if they can hide their phone when they are texting or talking on it and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today's society, numerous people have cellular devices, and all communicate with them in some way, mainly though test messaging. In Cullington's essay, text messaging is expressed in many different ways that messaging through a cellular device is a standard way to communicate. The possible mode of texting makes it seem like a faster way to communicate, which it is, but is it the proper way to do so. "They do it at night when their parents are asleep. They do it in restaurants and while crossing the streets. They do it in the classroom with their hands behind their back. They do it so much their thumbs hurt."(Hafner) Texting and teens has become a cause for concern. The stereotype of young chatty teens spending hours on the phone has faded. "The twenty–first century has hit us with a growing phenomenon among a teen, teen's reaching for phones, firing off messages, and waking with no recollection of their actions."(Breus) With sleep texting the beep of a cell phone awakens a person so he or she will reach over and respond to a message with gibberish, however no recollection in the morning. This can be looked at as the same disruption as sleepwalking. Experts are urging parents to get a hold on this behavior with teens asking that all electronics be kept out of the bedrooms, and cutting off teens from phones by ten o'clock in the evening. Poor sleep quality leads to daytime sleepiness which affects concentration. ABC's news segment called Sleep Texting depicted another portrayal of texting and the detrimental effects on teen sleep. The other side of the benefits of texting were completely isolated displaying bias by omission. It was not a fair or balanced segment when the co– host and expert Dr. Harris were speaking of their own children and the problems they encounter with texting late nights. • 33. The Effects Of Texting On The Age Of Texting By Natalie Moore Introduction: Advocates of texting promote the concept of easy communication, but the opposing view point emphasizes the decline in social ability as an effect of texting. Texting can be abused almost effortlessly. Communication via thumb has become so prominent that it is constantly used for practically any task. Are you in an argument with someone? Just text them and ignore the in–person confrontation; it's much easier. Many have seen relationships–both friendly and romantic–decline due to the replacement of social interaction with a screen. In the passage, Rule of Thumbs: Love in the Age of Texting by Natalie Moore, Moore's informal diction, humorous anecdotes and outside sources back up the disadvantages of technology. Outside Sources: Moore's outside sources, some with opinions that are opposite to her own, are included to enhance the credibility of her negative view against texting. In efforts to support her observations, Moore included the opinion of Joy Weaver who said texting "cannot replace the human voice or touch" (172). Not only does Moore include external sources that back up her stance, she involved opposing viewpoints to get both sides of the argument. Barb Iverson, a Columbia College Chicago professor, elaborated on two types of individuals: "digital immigrants and digital natives" (173). Text messages, iMessages, and direct messaging have made it all too simple to communicate with one another. These modern means of exchanging information have led to a drop in the amount of verbal discussions. "A generation of e–mailing, followed by an explosion in texting, has pushed the telephone conversation into serious decline" ("Texting Generation"). Though talking on the phone requires technology, a level of closeness exists, whereas in a text message, there is an absence of this. Voice calls have become "old–fashioned" in recent years, but hearing someone's voice instead of reading a combination of letters on a tiny screen brings the intimacy factor to a whole new level. Many people in recent generations refrain from phone calls by virtue of being put on the spot and not having time to conceive an acceptable response. "Young people say they avoid voice calls because the immediacy of a phone call strips them of the control that they have over the arguably less–intimate pleasures of texting, e–mailing, Facebooking or tweeting" ("Texting Generation"). The avoidance of these immediate response ways of communication creates a divide in the community. Wrapped up in portraying themselves as a "perfect" human, people lose themselves and their values in the new virtual world, making it considerably easier for people to depict themselves in a finer way but at the same time, losing personal connection to the people in their lives. Technology continues to take place of the simple things people enjoy with one another. For example, a walk in the park on a cool, breezy day seems to be a rare thing people take pleasure in in recent times. • 37. Texting Or Calling Mobile phones have become a crucial part of our society today. The increasing number of texts and phone calls is alarming. Texting and calling have become popular ways of communication. Over the past twenty years, there has probably been more texts sent and received than calls. Although texting may be faster, more organized, and convenient, it also takes full concentration, has a delayed response, and emotion or sarcasm is hard to detect. Calling, on the other hand, can be more personal, more information and detail can be communicated, and an immediate response is received. Even though there are many benefits of calling, there are also some downsides. For example, the receiver might not answer, more personal conversations take longer, and words and thoughts are on the spot. Calling and texting both can be good ways of communication, it all depends on the point you are trying to portray. In recent years, calling has decreased in popularity. • 39. Texting And Communication As we all know, everyone who has a phone is guilty of texting. Especially those with a smart phone. The use of informal language has become a widespread problem today due to the use of text messaging among one another. Many people engage in conversations and do not even realize that they are using improper grammar majority of the time, along with informal speaking. This also has become very popular in society because of the improper language being used, also known as "slang." However, there are some ways to try and reduce the use of improper grammar due to the use of shortening words. The way that texting has grown over the years, people have created more and more ways to come up with acronyms for words. Constantly doing something over and over can become a habit. Therefore, if you continue to use shortcuts for every message your type, then you could end up doing the same on assignments, paperwork, and essays. Even an important email to your professor. This also leads to devices are being used more than usual. According to Tina Barseghian, she states that "Some educators (and even a linguistic expert) believe kids who text are exercising a different, additional muscle when texting, writing, and note–taking – and that skill is actually adding to a student's growing and changing repertoire." Both sides of this debate have justifiable reasons, but certainly one is bound to succeed in preference to the opposed side. Cellular devices being used should be off limits while simultaneously driving, because it puts not only the driver in danger, but also any passengers or other drivers at risk. There are numerous rules that quarrel cellphone use in certain situations, including laws that forbid their use while driving, yet countless citizens rebel without batting an eye. • 45. Texting While Driving Affected Driving : Causes And... It's always sad to see loved ones die, but it can be especially tragic when it happens unexpectedly. One of the most common, unexpected ways to die, is being involved in a car wreck. Things like icy roads, animal crossings, and car malfunctions are things that are sometimes beyond our control, yet they only make up the small proportion of the causes of car crashes. Most of the accidents that occur are usually preventable. It's the individual driver who can make things happen; or not happen. Things like speeding, tailgating, and reckless driving have been problems for quite some time, but the the new problem that is undoubtedly the largest problem is distracted driving. New technology/services have come out to prevent people from driving while distracted by blocking incoming messages and notifications. Using various forms of advertising, this is the type of solution that needs to be introduced to everyone. With the rise of technology such as smartphones, people have slowly become connected to their devices; so connected that they can't even resist the urge to peek at it while driving two ton vehicles at high speeds. Many people will say that it's very dangerous to drink and drive, so they don't. They claim that texting and talking on a cell phone while driving can be dangerous and lead to fatal accidents, and they use persuasive techniques to influence the reader. In the first article "Parents Share Son's Fatal Text Message to Warn Against Texting & Driving", the author writes about a young man, Alexander Heit, who was sending a text while he was driving which caused his death. • 70. Texting In Society Do we, as a society, text to much? Katherine Manning 3–2–16 C4 Essay A big question now a days is as a society do we text to much. There have been studies showing that as a society we text a lot more than we did in past years and less and less face to face communication, is the results of what can happen. People start to rely more and more on their phones to send a text to there family members, spouse, and even friends instead of calling them or telling them when they have a chance to talk to them face to face. A few months later, when they pick her father up at the airport, the little girl laughs at her screen while he attempts to get her attention. This isn't an abnormal event–it is so common, in fact, that some feel we have to 'fight the machines' to get each other's attention. This is largely because we're taught that the most conclusive way to tell if you have someone's attention is through eye contact, which the use of a device like a tablet or phone prohibits. As technology infiltrates more and more aspects of our daily lives, changing our society, what we consider socially appropriate should begin to change as well. Texting behaviors (read: behaviors associated with texting or other interactions with one's mobile phone) such as a lack of eye contact sometimes challenge what we've been taught is socially acceptable.
